Music and Canada Day!

by Shirley

Just for a minute I want you to stop and think what your life would be like without music...stop...put your coffee down...now think...still thinking? Ok it would be crap. Music is universal and has such a hold on us we don't even realize it. Have you ever sat at your desk at work and tapped your pen/pencil to the beat of a song that was stuck in mind somewhere and you didn't even know it? Who sings in the shower or the car when your by yourself? Put your hands up. Come on I know you do. Have you ever stopped at a red light, glanced at the car next to you and wondered what the hell is wrong with that person? Is he/she having a fit...should I call someone? Some of them look like they are having an epileptic seizure...and we won't even talk about the ones that pick their noses...eeeewwww gross! Anyway, what I am trying to say is that from those irritating commercial jingles to the perfect wedding song...music is a part of our everyday lives.

Back in the day (about 25 years ago), when the weather started to get warm I would pop in my 8 track tape of Meatloaf's "Bat Out Of Hell" and go driving. That has to be one of the best albums ever made. I would also listen to 8 tracks of John Denver ("Rocky Mountain High" & "Grandma's Feather Bed"), Barbara Streisand ("Evergreen"...remember how long that last note was?), Bette Midler ("The Rose"), Anne Murray ("Snowbird" & "Could I Have This Dance"). I hand some Hooked on Swing tapes too, and Styx, Chicago, The Eagles (who could forget "Hotel California"), Air Supply, The Bee Gees (I've Got To Get A Message To You", Abba ("The Winner Takes it all"). Well you get the idea.

Some songs are associated with wonderful memories and other with sad memories. My mum listens to a Hank Snow song called "My Mother". It reminds her of her mother and she always cries when she hears it. My Dad liked country music. He didn't like that "damn screeching music...you don't know what they're saying". I'm a fan of the 70's and 80's music. I like classical music but my all time favorite music is made by the ocean. You can't beat the musical sound of the waves.

What are some of your favorite songs? Do you and your significant other share a special tune? What did or do you sing to your kids at night or when they are sick? Did your parents have favorite songs? Did they sing to you? Please share with me and everyone else. Have a great day and take some time to enjoy your favorite music.

Also, I could not let the day go by without paying homage to my country on "Canada Day"

Happy Birthday Canada!

Back in 1879 it was called Dominion Day but that changed to Canada Day in 1982. On June 20, 1868, a proclamation signed by the Governor General, Lord Monck, called upon all Her Majesty's loving subjects throughout Canada to join in the celebration of the anniversary of the formation of the union of the British North America provinces in a federation under the name of Canada on July 1st. And Canada was born! There will be lots of picnics, fun , fireworks and music.

Happy Canada Day!!

  2. SHIRLEY: Music is my crack...I absolutely love it. All kinds, from every era...it's the background of my life, every single day. When I need motivation, or when I want to relax, the right song will help me do just that.

I love to hear Johnny Mathis sing "Misty"..and "Cool For Cats" by Squeeze makes me smile. Frank Sinatra singing "Nice n Easy" calms me down, Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again Naturally" can make me cry.

Whenever I hear Karen Carpenter's voice, it's like I'm sipping bourbon, it completely mellows me out.

I do sing in the shower and in the car...in the pool and even to the songs they play in the store. I think my life without music would be an extremely empty one.

    Great blog SHIRLEY!!

  4. Shirley: Great blog! I LOVE music! In fact, some of my friends often wonder if I am a bit of a "savant" when it comes to knowing a song and who sings it when I just hear a couple of notes (and YES...I WAS a BIG FAN of "Name that Tune" as a kid)!

When I was a teenager, I wanted to turn all my "poems" into songs. So, after high school, I attended our local community college where I was a music major and studied music theory. However, I never did finish my degree (and instead got an associates in applied science instead).

I know this sounds mean (and ITEACH will laugh as I say this at our school many times). I love music so much that I could never be a grade school music teacher (as I do not enjoy hearing children shouting instead of singing...and WHO came up with the dorky songs that they teach kids to sing at that age?)! I hated music class as a kid because of the reasons I just mentioned. However, my love of music remains strong. I am very opinionated in what I like and don't like. However, as long as I don't have to listen to it, I don't care what others listen too. ; )

Well, I think I am going to check out the news and see if there is anything new on the manhunt! I didn't sleep well last night and kept freaking out by noises (as I mentioned in area 51)!

Thanks again to all who said such nice things to me (again see area 51).

    BBL!

Oh...and Shirley, thanks for explaining to Canada Day to your American neighbors! Have a great celebration (you too VIG and Tink)!

HAPPY CANADA DAY! For all of my Canadian friends! Shirley, Tinka, Lovey, Vig!!!

    Zona: Congrats on first!

    Fun blog Shirley!

Music is the background of our lives.

I can remember growing up and my Dad always had music playing. I can remember riding in the car and he would have the radio cranked and we would all sing. My brother and I as we got a little older would try to guess the next line in a song. My Dad was always amazed when we did.

I also used to worry every year when I was younger where would the next song come from? Would that be it? But some how there would always be new songs to enjoy.

There are songs and singers that remind me of my Mom and Dad. Songs that bring on memories of weddings or special occasions and songs that were silly that help me remember other people in my life when I hear them.

One song in particular reminds me of my Mother and about a month ago I searched youtube and found the singer. I don't hear it played much anymore and I was so excited. It is "We'll sing in the Sunshine" by Gayle Garnett. I cried listening to it and watching her sing it. My Dad would sing this song to my Mom when she was so sick and dying. It was here favorites song. The word have such deep meaning when I listen.

    We'll Sing in the Sunshine

    By Gayle Garnett
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
    We'll laugh every day,
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
And I'll be on my way.
I know I'll never love you,
The cost of love's too dear.
But though I'll never love you,
I'll stay with you one year.
And we can sing in the sunshine,
    We'll laugh every day,
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
And I'll be on my way.
My daddy he once told me,
"Hey, don't you love you any man.
Just take what they may give you,
And give but what you can."
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
    We'll laugh every day,
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
And I'll be on my way.
I'll sing to you each morning,
    I'll kiss you every night.
But darlin' don't cling to me,
I'll soon be out of sight.
But we can sing in the sunshine,
    We'll laugh every day,
    We'll sing in the sunshine,
And I'll be on my way.
And when our year has ended,
    And I have gone away,
    You'll often think about me,
And this is what you'll say:
    We sang in the sunshine,
    We laughed every day,
    We sang in the sunshine,
And then went on our way.

  14. So here is the latest with the Rock Falls killer.

    1. His parents are living on my street.

    2. His parents are raising his kids.

    3. At 11:00 they will have a nation wide press conference on him.

    4. Over the weekend he killed a couple in Galeburg and a guy in St. Louis.

    5. So I believe that brings it to 8 killings in one week.

Through the courtesy of Fred's two feet.

    When you're with the Flintstones
you'll have a yabba dabba doo time.

  27. MEK and Zona: I used to hear the Gayle Garnett song randomly and would always say "Hi Mom I am Ok!" I figured it was her way of letting me know she was still around.

    ROFLMAO over the Flintstones!

My friend and I worked in a video store in the early 90's when our kids were little. It would never fail one of us would start humming the Flintstones or whistling it and sure enough the other one would shortly start too.

We would always yell damn you!!! The customers would look at us like WTF and then we would start whistling the Flintstones. They would come in the next day and tell us it was stuck in their head because of us! LOL

  28. Good morning Hooters! Congrats on1st Zonababy!!

    HAPPY CANADA DAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Music is and always will be a part of my life. The one song that I always cry to is 'Ava Maria'- my dad loved that song and we played it at his memorial service. Still gets me.

I am a HUGE fan of the 70 bands- went to many a rock concert in my day. Also love the oldies (50's & 60's) I know most by heart and sing along. Currently I am a country fan. Must be my age now :0)
God I hated that RAP shit my boys listened too!! They are over it.

I love to sing, but usually do it alone. I know I told Jodi this story once- when Mr. Goldie and I were dating we went to church services on Sunday. As I was singing along with the congregation, Mr. Goldie elbowed me and said "just mouth the words"! LOL- so now our deal it that I get to sing out loud in Church (we don't go that often, but we do go on X-mas with my family)on Christmas only. :)

  29. Thought I should break up my post in 2 parts.

I had Nurse Ratchet for breakfast and it tasted so good...... She probably never wants to hear from me again.

Then my doctor called and we talked for 20 minutes. He was so apologetic and so concerned about it. My perscription was written and waiting and I sent Mr. Goldie to go get it and have it filled. So, I am now back on meds, and far less in pain and cranky. This is good for everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  30. GOldie - LOL at mouth the words!! I can NOT carry a tune in a bucket - but I do love to sing!!! and I also do it ALONE!! it's much safer!!!

Zona - you would be fine!! can't wait to hear the Nikki Story!!!

    Lynn D - :-) Yabba, Dabba DOOOOO

  32. HI GOLDIE!

Mr Z is such a huge 70's fan...give him two notes..and I think he could name any song. It seems to me, that a lot of the songs from the 70's are just so happy. Even "Ben"...LOL LOL!!!

LOL at you only being able to sing at Christmas...I sing for Nikki and she tries to rescue me!! ;)

  33. Stop right there!
    I gotta know right now!
    Before we go any further!
    Do you love me?
    Will you love me forever?
    Do you need me?
    Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy for the rest of my life?
Will you take me away, will you make me your wife?...

Fantastic album and one of my favorites when I was in high school! I haven't heard any of those songs in ages, but I've found myself singing this one twice recently. :)

Weekend before last, I was at my aunt's house, and we were all sitting on her deck after dinner. It was a beautiful night - very peaceful and relaxing. I can't remember how the topic came about, but my uncle mentioned Paradise by the Dashboard Lights.

I started singing the verse I quoted above, and others joined in. I was amazed by how many of us remembered all of the lyrics. It was a fun trip down memory lane, and now, I'm taking that trip again today. :)

    Thanks Shirley!

    Have a great day, Owls!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good Morning. There are so many owls in the nest I can't count them all. Congrats on first Zonababy. I am so happy you had a great day with Tina yesterday.

I am rushing to get everything ready for our Canada Day celebrations. I have just decorated the outside of my house with flags. It looks pretty nice. I have a full day starting with brunch at my daughter's, a Canada Day party at my mom's lodge at 2:00, a family barbecue, and then fire works down on the waterfront. I won't be back on the blog until tomorrow.

Shirley - That song made my day. I haven't heard it since becoming a grandmother and it means so much more now. My choir used to love that and all the John Denver songs in 70's. They loved "Country Roads". Jennifer I don't know what schools you were in but I have tapes I could play you of my choirs and they had beautiful voices. Of course you have to train them. No child should be allowed to shout out a song. We always picked contemporary music. For almost 40 years, I taught primary, intermediate and senior choirs in every school where I also taught a primary grade. The little ones loved the Disney Songs. The older ones sang songs like "You'll Never Walk Alone" and "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" with 3 part harmony. I have all the tapes and still enjoy them on occasion.

I have always lived for music. While I am on the computer my itunes are playing. While I am doing housework I have CD's of my favourite singers keeping me company.
The main entertainment we had when I was a child was family singsongs around the piano. It was a nightly occurrence. My sister and I loved telling people we knew 40 verses of "Frankie and Johnny were lovers". That sounds rather strange today but it was fun then. I love all music genres, depending on my mood. I saw Willie Nelson twice with my son. He was such a fan. We have been to almost all of the music stars concerts, that is the ones who come to Vancouver; sometimes we are lucky enough to have them come to Victoria. My sister and I always wanted to see Vince Gill but he was one of the few that never played near here.

Now I am late and must rush. Thanks for the great blog and breakfast. Happy Canada Day to you and VIG. Stay safe.

  35. I am loving all the music comments and wish I could stay and play, but Mr Mary is tapping his foot (not to the rhythm lol). 40. Amicus, what do I know.

I've deleted my first post and made the correction here!

    Good morning!

I was going to give Shirley a break from cooking today. I was about to run to the restaurant not far from here that serves the best breakfast!

    Maybe tomorrow then.

Thanx for the great blog Shirley, and also explaining Canada day.

Congrats on first Zona! Glad you and Tina had fun together.

I love music! I am a fan of 70s and 80s, two of my faves are Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. I've seen them in concert many, many times.

I love the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Springsteen, Elton John, the list goes on and on.

If you look at my playlist on MS you can tell I have really varied taste.

I like some hard rock and also some MUSICALS, Phantom being one of the best. There are even some Country songs I like. I've seen Willie Nelson in concert 5 or 6 times too!

About the only music I don't really like is (c)rap.

MEK and other Bachelorette "fans" (is that what we are??) I feel sorry for whoever she picks, I can't imagine any relationship working out. She is a bully and I don't think anyone can live up to her expectations.

He better not mind letting her run the show, either.

The sky is clearing a little here, we actually saw some blue yesterday!

  41. Happy Canada Day to Bear (are ya there yet?), Lovey, Shirley, Tink & VIG!

I've been trying to get in some 'real life' before nesting each day, but it is SO difficult to do! The sun may rise at 5:30, but each day gets its jump start with roll call in the nest. Love you guys!

Shirley~~Could you talk Carol into letting you do at least a bi-weekly blog with a music theme? My favorite topic EVER, and the possibilities are endless! BBL with more on music, and enjoy reading about everyone's favorites. New avatar to honor Shirley and OWL*TUNES.

Jennifer x 2~~Unfathomable. Prayers continue for you and your communities.

Zona~~'grats on 1st, so happy that you had a fun BB meet, and did I hear something about a cooling trend?

  42. EBJ,
    LOL! Thank you! ;)
Technically, you could get away with calling it an operetta.
Just don't call a musical a play or a cast recording a soundtrack.
Those theatre nuts will eat you alive.
    Been there, done that! ;)

  43. TINA: OMG, you didn't really write "thank you for putting up with me..", are you on crack?? You are welcome here any-frickin-time...:)

I have a lot of catching up to do on the blog. I was able to read quite a bit last week when we had free wifi, but I did not read anything yesterday. So I will try to get caught up today.

I think Karen Carpenter had the most beautiful singing voice of any woman ever. I love to hear a lot of singers, but when it comes down to pure sound, she is tops.

  48. Tink: I am so glad to hear that not all schools teach music the same way (as many do here in America). I would LOVE it if they could do harmony and learn HOW to sing! I think the problem around here (at least in the public, small town schools) is that music (and art) are the first things to be cut in budget cuts. These positions are never full time and the music teachers teach at several schools to try to stay full time. They are over worked and are in charge of organizing concerts for more than one school! I think they just don't have the time (or energy) to teach these children to sing correctly!

Well, I have been dozing on the couch. I am still freaked out.

ITEACH: I hope you are not allowing your kids to be outside! Keep then indoors until this creep is caught!

Now I'm off to read these articles that ITEACH mentioned...

  49. argh....

I forgot. Today is the day that Washington State will fine you $124 if you are pulled over for talking on your cell phone. Stupidest f'n law ever. I think there will be more accidents now with people pulling over on the side of the freeway to talk on their phone and then trying to merge back into traffic. I understand why they have the law, but why does everyone have to be punished for a few idiots??? Why not just ticket the person who causes an accident because they are on their phone? Why ban it for everyone??? I hate it. Next thing you know they will ticket you for being caught holding a sammie while driving. Or taking a drink out of your soda. Or....god forbid...you take your hand off the steering wheel to pick a boogie. (not that i would do that!)

  50. Sandie, I forgot to tell you how pretty you were (and are)! Great picture.

Now that smile does look familiar. Dianne, is that you?

  51. BARB/WA: Whenever I hear Karen Carpenter sing..I just know I'm getting a preview of what the angels will sound like.

ITEACH & JENNIFER: Do they know what this lunatic's motivation is?? I can't seem to find that out anywhere. Please stay safe.

  52. DIANNE: Did you find that horse yet?? ;)

  53. Lynn D: I love those song lyrics (sorry, I forgot to mention that earlier)!

  55. Happy Tuesday Owls.

Shirley, Great blog today and breakfast too. My husband was a country music fan and when we met I hated that music. But after listening to it for a few years, I became a big fan. I do have an eclectic music taste, though, except, (like EBJ) for (c)rap. Oh, and heavy metal. I gravitate towards the oldies mostly, in rock and in country.

I went to elementary school with Spike Jones' daughter and he was making a Christmas album. He needed a children's choir to sing back-up for a song called "Where Did My Snowman Go?" So, our choir was on the record. We got no credit or money or even a copy of the record, but our dulcet tones are on the record. :0)

Goldie: I used to sing to my kids, but they always cried and my Hubby finally asked me to stop singing to them. I want to sing in church, but I don't subject the people around me to my singing so I just mouth the words, even on Christmas. :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Barb/WA: California will fine everyone who doesn't use a hands free device to talk on a cel phone starting today. However, the law doesn't preclude anyone from TEXTING while driving! How f'ing crazy is that?

    Zona: Congrats on #1.

EBJ: We saw a little blue yesterday too.
I almost forgot what it was like.

    K-grl: Another 69 for you...Yayyyyy

Happy Canada Day to Shirley, VIG, Tinka and Lovey (where are you?), oh and Whabbear too. Hope you arrived safely.

Iteach & Jennifer: Stay inside and keep your doors and windows locked. Prayers going out that this guy is caught very soon.

Waving a wing at all the other owls and all who land after me.

  57. SacBarb the sky is blue here today!! Yipee!

The fine starting today here in Calif. for talking on a cell phone while driving is $20 for first offense, then $50 each time after that.

And, anyone under 18 may not use a cell phone at all, that means no "hands-free devices".

I didn't realize it was still ok to text, surely they don't allow that? That is worse than talking while driving.

    ReplyDelete
  58. SACBARB: I ran right over to Mr Z's collection of Christmas CD's to find the Spike Jones one. Unfortunately, that song isn't on the CD we have. :( I really wanted to hear it!!! I'm going to look for it this year! :)

  59. Zona~imo, Johnny Mathis' 16 Most Requested is one of the best ever! Chances Are, Misty, The Twelfth of Never, When Sunny Gets Blue, Evergreen, Love Story, etc.

Jennifer~I can't think of many things more fun than an All-Owls Name That Tune Fest!

Favorite 'goose bump' songs (besides Rhapsody in Blue, of course): k.d. lang's Hallelujah, Chanticleer's Ave Maria

Most recent purchases (arrived from Amazon yesterday): Breakfast on the Morning Tram(Stacey Kent) and Jason Mraz's latest.

Not knowing where to even begin on discussing eclectic favorites, I'll just list some oldies that MUST be in the car for a long road trip: (SO many more, but these I KNOW I won't hear on the radio)
*Glenn Yarbrough's 'The Lonely Things: The Love Songs of Rod McKuen' (#1)
    *Queen's 'Greatest Hits'
    *Maroon 5's 'Songs About Jane'
    *Miles Davis's 'Classic Ballads'
    *k.d. lang's 'hymns of the 49th parallel'
    *Billie Holiday's 'Singin' the Blues'
    *Johnny Mathis's '16 Most Requested'
*Norah Jones's 'Come Away with Me'
    *Mika's 'Life in Cartoon Motion'
    *'The Legendary Joa`o Gilberto'
    *Greg Brown's 'Slant 6 Mind'
*Louis Moreau Gottschalk's 'A Night in the Tropics'
    *Bette Midler's 'Bette'
    *Josh Groban's 'Awake'
    *Santana's 'Abraxas'

More, more, Owls...share your all-time faves!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Zona: I have looked over the years and have never found it.

EBJ: Yeah, you'd think texting would be included because I don't think you can do that with one hand. At least you can talk on the phone with one hand, but it was a big deal on our news last night. I didn't know it until they mentioned it. And the fine is so minimal, I don't think it will be a deterrent. Also, like Barb/WA said, how hazardous will it be if people do pull to the side of the road and then try to merge back into traffic? I have OnStar in my car and I can use it to call and my car even has a phone number so people can call me (or my car) LOL

    ReplyDelete
  61. sacbarb, ebj and barbinwa, if I may join in on the cell phone discussion, in NYC they talked about passing a law - no cell phone use while crossing the street!!! That reasoning was people can not hear traffic coming! To that I say - then in the winter no hoods on heads while crossing the street, impairs hearing!! (sarcasm)
Bottom line, what I mean to say is, There are too many laws and too much government interference on our lives. Catch that murderer running around in these lovely owls neighborhoods! This is, of course, just my opinion.

    Good evening,owls!

    ReplyDelete
  62. They banned texting while driving here in January. They gave everyone until July 1st before they banned talking on your cell.
I just think it's ridiculous. I know it came about because someone got into an accident while talking on their phone and probably killed someone. And that caused someone to get a hair up their butt. I know it's sad, but dang it all anyway. I'm so tired of having things taken away.

    ReplyDelete
  63. grandma moses: I so agree with you. Put more effort & $$$ into catching real criminals. Crossing the street???? Then no ear muffs in winter either!

  65. **WARNING THE FOLLOWING IS A RANT**

I am so pissed at AT&T. I have been problems with the phone having static and callers getting a busy signal when no one is on the phone. They said they would be out today between 8am and noon. They still aren't here and I just got a call that they will be here tomorrow between 8am and noon. The rep said, "well it is a holiday week, you know" WTF!!!! So????? They know I am at their mercy and can't do anything about it. So I will just stay pissed! Thanks for letting me vent.

  67. SacBarb they must work in tandem with Comcast.

They were supposed to be out this past Friday between 10=1. Well by 2 they hadn't come and MR. EBJ was pissed!

He waited home all day, and when I got home from work about 5:50, the guy had come and was just leaving.

He said he had been given 10 appts. rather than his usual 5, so he was late.

Did they call to inform us? No.

I won't rant about the crappy job the guy did in one of the bedrooms, we had cable installed and it looks like a 5 year old did it.

I am debating to call them or just have huz fix it himself.

But God only knows what I can do right now

  74. hi Hooters-

nobody is happier than Mr. Goldie that I a back on my missing med! He told me this morning I was a tad bit BITCHY yesterday. :)
Yeah, so? Whats your point I asked him. LOL

I love Meatloaf too- so thanks for the link Amicus!

On my way to work this morning there was an accident near my house. There is a traffic circle there (another moronic civil engineering thought). Anywho, it was a teenage boy and a women I am guessing was in her 60's. The person at fault was the women who was yakking on her cell phone! She cut him off by not yielding to the right. Poor kid was so upset, I called his mom and she came - they only live a block from there-. The women freely admitted it was her fault because she was busy on the phone and wasnt paying attention.

Ok, have to go play photog. Mr. Goldie is teaching his Tues. evening krav class in the park tonight and wants me to take pics for the website.

jennifer/iteach- any new word? I have been reading the news - this guy is really some kinda scum. Stay safe you two.

I once again can't guess the owl and Tina thinks she knows all of them...not this time, Tina!

ITEACH AND JENNIFER: Keep your doors locked!

MEK and EBJ: I must be a sap because I kind of like Deanna and have wanted her to pick Jason since day one. I didn't think it was too great last night when she asked Jesse what he wanted to do after snowboarding and he mostly said it didn't matter as long as he was with the girl of his dreams. I hope Deanna has a decent job!! I felt bad for Jeremy and was surprised that she kept Jesse. I liked the reunion and am glad she didn't pick Graham..that guy has an attitude! I do agree that Deanna is kind of whiny but I felt bad for her on the other show with Brad so....
And on Nashville Star..I like Melissa best and Gabe and I don't like the Navy guys singing! There is my Monday night TV opinions. Now tonight I have to watch America's Got Talent. Can you see what an exciting minute to minute life I lead?

  84. Ok Tina...I just looked in the mirror and the picture of the owl seems younger, skinnier and I have tons more wrinkles so nope, it's not me. Some day when we meet you will understand even though you think I am a young chick!!

CAROL, I was reading back on yesterday posts and when you congratulated me for marching to 69 and then put Richard Simmons in there with me...it kind of took away from the 69 (if you know what I mean)! I know I told you I was Sweating To The Oldies but just putting that name and number together seems so wrong!! :)

SacBarb and EBJ - NO, i didn't buy anymore furniture!! LOL

Lynn D - the whistle is almost getting ready to blow at the Rock Quarry!!

Iteach and Jennifer - do you think that Nancy Grace or On The Record will be about your little town tonite??!! I have read the stories- this guy needs to be caught QUICKLY!!!!!!!!!! How scary -

    Goldie - :-)

  86. Bachelorette...

Am I the only one who thinks DeAnna is still in love/lust with Graham? After the show is over, I'm expecting to hear that she called off the engagement and is dating Graham again. Of course, I could be wrong, but the sexual tension between those two caused sparks to fly out of my TV. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  87. Amicus - nothing that Deanna will do will surprise me anymore - she is looking for perfection, but yet sent it away!!

I agree with Dianne - she better have a good job - cuz I can't see Jesse supporting her to her standards!!

AND, I just can't see her as instant mom either!!

Her last two standing are mindboggling to me.......

Even though I REALLY like them both - I just can't see them with her!!

  88. Zona Congrats on being first today! Were you trying to be up before the sun?

Turtle I see you got yourself a little 69 action. Woo hoo!!!

Shirley Great blog today. Plus, Happy Canada Day to you, Tink and VIG!

When my husband lay dying in the hospital bed and he had gone deep inside himself somewhere where I could no longer reach, I considered climbing onto the bed to just lie next to him for a while. Because of the way he was laying, it would have disturbed him, so instead, I lowered the side guard rail and laid my arm full length on top of his. It didn't even feel like a human arm anymore. It seems the life had already left his extremeties. Later, on the car radio, the song "Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol came on and I was sobbing instantly. For those of you who don't know the song, here's part of the lyrics:

    I don't quite know
    How to say
    How I feel

    Those three words,
    Are said too much
    They're not enough

    If I lay here
    If I just lay here
Would you lie with me and just forget the world?

The song has caught me off guard when it came over the speaker system at a department store. I basically had to hide myself while I stood sobbing. I cannot hear it without being taken back to that day in the hosptial. My husband died that night.

Sorry for the long and depressing post.

    ReplyDelete
  89. AMICUS: I think Graham is the bad boy that she likes. You know, the exciting guy that you know is wrong for you? I hope she doesn't break an engagement to run back to him. I don't like that smirk he gets on his face like he is all that and a bag of chips!!! Yes, there are big sexual things going on there but Jason is so sweet and cute and nice family!! I guess we will see what happens. Did you notice if she picks Jesse, this is the second one that will win from the mountains of Colorado!!! I guess there is something about these Colorado men!!! Hey, I had better pay better attention here..my husband is from the mountains of Colorado!!!

    ReplyDelete
  90. Amicus: I too believe she is sorry that she gave Graham the boot, regardless of what she said last night, especially after he gave her that note. However, from Graham's reaction last night, I think he is glad.

I think she and Jeremy made a good match and she led him on by saying they had a bond because of their parents. I now think she doesn't know what the hell who wants.

I'm going with Jesse, because I think she is too selfish to share her man with a child this soon. I hope Jesse made enough money snowboarding to last him through retirement, because it doesn't look like he is looking at another career.

I'm so glad everyone liked my blog. I'm always nervous when I write them and then I hesitate awhile before sending them to Carol.

I see I'm not the only one who doesn't like (c)rap.

Goldie you don't have to mouth the words in here. You can sing as loud as you want. You can even join Jodi on top of the bar. Lol! Oh, glad to see you're all medicated again.

Amicus I'm glad I could send on another memorable trip.

Tinka I hope you enjoy all your Canada Day celebrations. I will probably watch the fireworks from Parliment Hill on TV later. I forgot I liked Bridge Over Troubled Waters also. Simon and Garfunkle sang it.

Mary I hope you had a terrific visit with your brother. I look forward to hearing your musical favorites.

Grandma Moses glad you liked the lobster.

Tina sounds like you and Nikki had fun. Lol !!

EBJ sorry I ruined your plans for breakfast. You can feed all our hungry mouths tomorrow. Can't wait! I like Elton John too.

Bon'O love the new avatar! You have a song on your myspace page called "Lucky" that I really like. I try to listen to it every day. The way they sing the song is just so good.

Barbara "Evergreen" was such a beautiful song.

I'm going to break this up so I will be back.

  93. I like Jesse too, but don't think he knows what he wants to be when he grows up.

My pick would have been Jeremy, as I don't think instant family is the way to go for her, since she stated she has never before dated a man who had a child.

It might be too much for her to be second to the little boy.

Does anyone know what kind of work she does?

  106. Part two

SacBarb if you are still friends with anyone from elementary school maybe you should all get together and try out for "America's Got Talent". You never know.

Here in Nova Scotia you can talk on cell phones. You have to have headset things. You can't even smoke in your car with anyone under 16 years of age or you can be fined. Seems to me tax money is being wasted on the wrong things.

Bon'o, K.D. Lang singing "Hallelujah" ... fantastic. And I forgot Queen. "We Are The Champions" ...love that song. What about "Seasons in The Sun"? Who sang that? A family group wasn't it?

    Amicu great video!

Dianne-the-co-conspirator-in-Denver I think Tina knows about the roses. Did you tell? Your picture is very pretty.

Just Lin thanks for sharing "Chasing Cars" with us. ((hugs))

  111. Goldie, Jodi, and Shirley: You're welcome! I've played that video several times today just to hear the song. :)

MEK: I was shocked too when she didn't pick Jeremy. He would have been my choice. :)

Dianne: I think you're right about why DeAnna is attracted to Graham. She strikes me as a woman who enjoys power games though, which is why I think she sent Graham home. She was putting him in his place for not giving her what she wanted. The problem is he's the one she's really in love with. But, maybe I've watched too many Lauren Bacall movies. ;)

SacBarb: I can't decide who I think she'll pick. I keep bouncing back and forth. Neither one of them seem right for her.

EBJ: Thanks for the career info!

  115. Evening Owls!

    Just checking in!

BarbWa: The new law about the cell phone is a secondary law. They can't pull you over for talking on the cellphone. If you are speeding, or run a red light etc... and you are on the cell you will get the traffic ticket and a cellphone use ticket. Just a FYI. Sorry gang I am kind of glad they are passing some laws on this. I have been cutoff and just missed by too many people on their cellphones.

I read about once a week or more about accidents caused by people on the phones too.

You guys are so amazing. I have a confession. I have a hell of a time remembering names of songs and artists. So when I see you guys list your favs I go. Wahoo that is who sang that one! LOL

Ok a Dad memory. Any time a song comes on by Hank Williams Sr. I think of my Dad. Youuuuur Cheatin' Heart..... He would blast that damn eight track every morning starting at about 4:00am. He would sit in the kitchen and have his coffee. I would be on the other side of the wall trying to sleep! LMAO I would bang on the wall to get him to turn it down and he would bang back and turn it up!

Iteach and Jennifer: I am so relieved they caught that guy!

Ok I am going to go fix a mudslide I might be back in a bit.

  119. Hello Owls! I had to pop on here and wish a Happy Canada Day to all my Canuck friends to the north. It sounds like you had some wonderful times today.

I had a great day too. My daughter and I drove into Seattle and met Rosie O'Donnell at her book signing. It was so much fun to see her in person and she was incredibly nice to everyone. (You can see photos on my MySpace page.)

Shirley, music has always been a huge part of my life. I studied piano as a child and sang in quite a few choirs. I used to sit in my brother's room when he was out and listen to his Carpenter's album, singing as loud as I could, with those giant headphones screaming into my ears. I LOVED Karen Carpenter's voice!!

When I am singing to my kids, one of my favorite songs to sing to them is "Take me out to the ballgame" or "Eidelweiss". Quite a difference there, I know, but I can hit all the notes.

My husband and I don't really have "a song"... and I wish we did. There are a few songs though that he has sung to me while tipsy at karaoke, so does that count?

Hope your week is off to a great start!

  126. Glynis, I just read your blog about Rosie. I think I would have peed my pants by getting that close to her.

Speaking of Rosie she just posted on her site that she loved the book the Alchemist (sp).

Last week I checked that book out from the library, I'm going to start reading it tonight.

Has anyone else here read it?

  143. Glynis congrats on meeting Rosie!

EBJ can your parrot whistle while eating a cracker?! Lol! By the way you should take that parrot on America's Got Talent. You might win a million dollars>

  146. This is my first chance all day to stop in!

    Happy Canada Day!!

Jennifer and iteach, so glad you can rest easy tonight. I was worried about you!

Goldie, yea for the meds! Yea for you setting that nurse straight!

    Dianne, love that smile!

    Glynis, you met Rosie--wow!!

Shirley, loved your blog today. I can't imagine life without music. I sang John Denver's song (which was actually first done by Peter, Paul & Mary) "For Baby" to each of my kids when they were little. They still love it when I sing that song--it means a lot to them, and me.

I'm always singing! My kids make fun of me for it but I know they secretly enjoy it! LOL! My parents always listened to music so I know many older songs, too. My husband always says he can't believe how many songs I have in my head. (I forget so many other things it's a good thing something is still in there!)

Thanks for sharing all the great songs today, owls!

  147. Hi Carol!
Hi Glynis! How fun to meet Rosie today!!!!

Lynn D....I did know that they have to pull you over for another infraction and not just give you a ticket for cell phone use. But my gripe is that they will just pull you over for going like 5 miles over the limit or something stupid. That's the way it always is. Just another way for the state to make some money. I totally agree with you that there are idiots out there who can't even drive and listen to the radio, but they are still going to be out there and telling EVERYONE that they can't do something because of the few is not right.

  148. Hey Owls! Thanks for all the Canada Day comments to we Canadians Owls. It was a great Canada day celebration in Victoria....lots of good music and buskers and good food and sunshine and a harbor boat ride and walking....lots and lots and lots of walking. I am too pooped to partake in pyrotechnics! No fireworks tonight for this for this buckeroo...when did I get to old to stay out past 7pm...lol! Oh well, it was a great day!

    Happy Birthday Canada!

  151. Shirley...great blog! I often think about what the kids I work with who are deaf miss because they can't hear music. It makes me sad because I can't imagine a day without music! Thanks for the reminder of the significance of music and for the Canadian history and Canada day info. Hope you and Tink and Lovey all had a great Canada day!

Dianne..what a wonderful smile and a wonderful picture.

iteach and jennifer...how frightening that must have been for your town and for you both. So glad it is over! Sleep well tonight!

  152. Happy Canada Day...

    Hi gang !

Wow, Glynis, that's really great !

  153. Thanks for all the compliments on my picture. When I go to class reunions, people always say I look the same (yea, about 1000 pounds ago)! Again, thank you.

SHIRLEY: I love music especially country, show music and the old music from my parents day..40's and 50's (well, I guess I was around in the 50's but a mere baby). My parents always had music playing on the "hi-fi" or radio. I listened to many Mitch Miller (not by choice)records growing up so I know a lot of those oid songs.

ITEACH AND JENNIFER: I am really glad they caught that guy and you are all safe.

My husband and son-in-law went to the Rockies game tonight so I met my daughter and granddaughters for dinner. I get the biggest laugh out of those girls. The oldest will be 10 in October and she told me she is "getting into puberty".

ok, I will talk to you all later..

    ReplyDelete
  154. Dianne~ will you please explain "getting into puberty"? That just sounds so cute!

  156. Hi, owls! Sorry... MIA yesterday, as I was flying to... Canada... on .... Canada Day!

Shirley: Happy belated Canada Day to you, Tink, CG, TN-VIG, and any other north of the border feathered friends! And to you, too, Glynis, as you're pretty much an honorary Canuck!

I'm writing this from a Tim Horton's in Waterloo Ontario, where I lived for eight years back in the 80s. Shirley, those were certainly the days. Your music tastes are very similar to mine... I LOVE Meatloaf! :)

From A50: Dianne: I'm not sure when I'll be in Denver next, but you'll be the first to know!

    OK, off to work... TTFN!
