Renewed!

searching for crabs

wow, it seems i have not blogged
for a while now, all the last few blogs
i wrote where done two weeks ago

i wonder if i lost my touch :O)

NOT!

life has been so breezy lately for me,
spending time at the jersey shore with
my family, brought me smiles that were
so needed, smiles that i had forgotten existed
this extended weekend made me stop and
smell the shore air, and the realization of
life is good was in sight

it is times like these that renew me, it makes
me whole again, the embrace of love fills
my heart, and gives me joy

we all need to do this, we need to reconnect
with our loved ones, we need to come back
from a place that is dark and damp, a place
that has no meaning

i know me, i need to feel the love, i need
my family around me to exist, i cannot be
complete without them, i need to see them
within reach, all their hands close by

the laughter that exists between us is so
very special, it, at time seems like a code
with one look, or one gesture, our laughter
will erupt, one by one

i am extremely grateful for this past weekend
as they don't come often, so i will cherish what
this weekend gave me, and i will have the memory

my heart is full, what a joyful feeling!

  2. I too love my time with family to recharge. Well at least some of the family :)

Whenever I can get away to see the grandbabies my heart and soul are better. I love spending time with my kids, they are both very entertaining, and we laugh alot.

I can spend 24/7 with my bro and his family too- my sister, well I love her and them, but small doses are best. We are going away to my sistes summer house in MI in Aug for 4 days and while I love the area and love the family, it is going to be a LOOOOOOONG 4 days.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

  6. Morning Glories!

    Hi goldie and Carol!

Boy I really get the recharging. I am actually in need of a recharging weekend or week.

Everyone needs that time away from all of the daily stuff at home.

For me it is usually a getaway to the beach.

I agree with goldie that some of my family are great to spend time with but unfortunately I need to pick and choose as some don't seem to know how to relax or maybe it is me and I can't relax around them.

IT'S WHABBY'S BIRTHDAY!!! Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Haaaaappy Birthdaaaay Dear Whabby! Happpy Birthdaaaaay to you!

  7. Good Morning Owls!

    Whabby: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!

Carol: Your blog perfectly described my weekend too, especially the laughter. That's one of the things I cherish the most about our family get-togethers. It feels so good to laugh like that.

I'm off to work so a quick Hello to everyone!

    Have a great day!

  11. Good Wednesday morning Owls! Hello and Happy Hump Day to LynnD, Goldie, Carol, Amicus, CanadianGirl and to the Owls who arrive later to the nest!

    Congrats on first, Lynn D!

Whabbear...have a fantastic 50th! Happy birthday, kind sir!

Zona...thinking of you today. Endless amounts of good thoughts and hugs for you!

Carol..a great, joyful blog.I love how you celebrate your family and I so agree with you. Family is essential. I may not have understood that or felt that when I was younger and trying to find my place in the world as an independent, autonomous woman, but now that I am almost fifty (not far behind you, Whabbear!) and single, I don't know what I would do without them.

  14. Being with my grandchildren is a great recharger. I am still "high" after seeing my littlest one for a few days after she is gone. I get recharged when I spend time with my kids and oldest two grandchildren. I love being with them but it's still a novelty to be with the baby. I feel lucky to belong to a family where everyone gets along well. Family parties with nieces and nephews are always fun for all. It wasn't always that way. When I was married I can remember a few Christmas dinners where some in-laws would start arguments. That wasn't pleasant but those days are long gone. The family I have now which consists of all my sister's family and my kids is very tight. Being with all of them at one big party like my last birthday party is a great recharger.
I also get recharged from nature. After a few busy days I will spend the whole day just sitting on my deck and soaking in the beauty of the flowers, trees, and the colour and fragrance that surrounds me. It feeds my soul.

  15. Happy Wednesday Owls.

    LynnD: Congrats on #1

Carol: We all need reminders of that unconditional love that we can only get from some family members. I live far away from most of my family. Only my oldest son and my sister live in the same town as I do and while I love my sister, I feel the same as Goldie, I can only take her in small doses. She and I are like daylight and dark, nothing alike. And her common sense is like....well she has none! And it drives me crazy. But we both have a strong sense of family and my hubby and I also instilled that in our kids.

I love spending time with my kids and only wish it could be more often.

I am still very close to my hubby's family and my sisters-in-law and two of my hubby's cousins do a girls get-away at least once a year. We usually go to Tahoe and even if we just hang around the cabin all weekend, we have a great time laughing and chillin' and just having fun. It is such a good feeling.

Whabbear: In case you missed my late message in area 51...A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUUUUUUU! (I don't know how to make those musical notes.)

Waving a wing at Amicus, Canadiangirl (good to see you), Tinka, VIG, Barb/WA and all who land after me.

  16. Good Morning VIG and Barbara.

VIG - You must have been right behind me in the nest and I didn't see you. Have a great day. I will be at a computer meeting after six so call me before that if you can.

Zona - I am waiting for your call if you are up right now. I hope you aren't too hot today.
If you are let me know and I will send down my private jet for you. Our weather is perfect and it is about time. I thought our summer would never come.

I am off to myspace. See you all later.

  20. Scirish - I can not make a plug that will hold the water in the sink. I have tried so many times. And yet if a piece of tissue or cloth is accidentally left in the sink, even slow dripping of the tap will eventually overflow the sink. I think Zona is right. There is some law that
"somewhere, someone is messin' with us"

SacBarb - I lucked out finding two friends like Dave and Brian. I always have an escort if I need one and someone to repair anything that breaks. I think God sent them to me when my husband left.

BonO - You just flew in. Good Morning to you.

  21. From yesterday's blog...

Goldie: A couple of weeks ago, I was having a hectic day and trying to run some quick errands on my lunch break. I was in a hurry and in no mood for chit chat. I stopped at my bank, and just my luck, I got a cheerful, chatty teller.

My dog was in the car so the teller was asking me questions about him. Normally, I love talking about my pets, but that day, I was thinking, "Please shut up and give me my money!" LOL!

My dog is used to getting treats at the bank, which is why he loves to go with me, so it wasn't a big surprise when the teller sent him a dog cookie. But, the teller also included a sucker for me - the kind with the loop handle. I haven't been given one of those since I was a kid.

I guess it was obvious I wasn't having good day so the teller thought candy might help. That small gesture put a big smile on my face and really brightened my day. :)

Scirish: Big {{Hugs}} for Zack. Ruptured anal glands are very painful for dogs so I hope the pain medication is helping him today. I also hope the vet talked to you about having his anal glands expressed on a regular basis.

    Back to work! :)

  25. Good Morning Owls!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY WHABBEAR!!

Carol, I love your blog. It is a reminder that the important things in life are usually already in front of us and it is up to us to keep it all in perspective. So many people just like to sit around and complain about everything, instead of appreciating what they have. If you have your family and friends, count your blessings! If you have a home, food on the table, had a chance to be educated and go to a doctor when you are sick, you are more blessed than a majority of the people on this earth.

If you have family sitting on a dock catching fresh crab, look out! I am on my way over with the Old Bay Seasoning, Silver Queen Corn and a 6 pack of cold beer! (It was a great photo Carol!)

Hello to all my friends in the nest and hope you stay cool and have a fun day! The glass really IS half full!

  28. I whole heartedly agree that family is the most important part of life and don't ever take them for granted. I spend as much time as I can with family. For the very first time ever my family is moving in different directions with my sister and grown nephew both having just moved on to further their careers to larger cities. I am in the process of trying to talk my parents into moving to a city of 1 million people. They aren't too keen on the driving conditions they may face. I have told them that we need only live and travel on one side of the city. I know that they can do this once last time. I would feel guilty if I moved and left my parents behind giving their health issues. We were military. We did this all our lives. I know that once the anxiousness wears away that they will agree 100% because their grandson means the world to them. That is what brought them from awesome Florida to Texas to begin with.

  29. Did someone kidnap me and take me to AZ?? The weather people are predicting 108 today and for the rest of the week. Yesterday my car thermometer read 113 at 5:00pm and that was in the car port, not even in the sun. YIKES!!!!!!!!!! That combined with our unhealthy air quality from the fires is almost too much to bear. (not you Whabby). Hellllppp........

  34. First, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Whabbear! Fifty is nifty!

    Congrats on first, Lynn!

Nice blog, Carol! You all probably remember that I left my family behind when I moved to GA and that my parents just moved here a couple of months ago. I am so loving it!! Now my sister and her two boys and their families are talking about moving here, too. We can only hope!!

Being with family is when I feel completely ME. I love it.

Tinka, you made me laugh--you're right about the tub and the sink!

Amicus, I love those lollipops! Lynn, I think they're called Safety Pops because they're bigger (harder to choke) and you can't ram the stick down your throat! (Remember when your Mom yelled to stop running with that lollipop in your mouth??)

Dreama, I hope you can convince your parents to move. A huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders knowing I'm right here to help my parents.

Shirley, if you're reading this, BIG HUGS to you.

  51. I am getting ready to go to my computer meeting. Actually it is more like a Mac fair tonight. I am looking at the possibility of buy a Mac Book Pro. Then when I wake in the night and feel like seeing what the bad girls are doing on the Night Owl's site, I won't have to walk all the way down the stairs to turn on my computer. I can just sit in bed and turn it on. I don't know if I am being lazy or safe. My family doesn't like the idea of me going up and down stairs in the middle of the night for fear I will fall. I have an amulet at all times so there isn't much danger. Actually I think I just want a new toy to play with.
See you all tomorrow. Love, Tinka

Congrats to LynnD for being first today!

Carol I envy you your big family. It sounds like you had such a great time at your get-together. I do actually have cousins back East that I've never met. I only have one sibling, my younger brother, who is arriving tomorrow for a visit. He'll spend one day with me then go to the lake where my husband's sister has a place on the water. I stopped going years ago as I am not a water person and it gets too hot there for me. My brother has been taking his Jet Ski there for many years. After he spends a week there, he will return to my house and stay for a week or so. It'll be nice to have him here.

    Shirley (((Hugs)))

I don't really mind the heat too much--I just really like cool better! And, I think it's too hot to get in the pool. I don't get in at night like Zona because the mosquitos bite me!

MEK, no I really don't enjoy that melting feeling. It feels like my skin is sliding off. I see these guys who do lawn service all day and I just wonder how in the world they do that. I'd slide off the riding lawn mower and run over myself!

  71. Thank-you, everybody! Carol, you are unbelievable!

(Oh, and the blog today was pretty good, too) !!

Fifty. Hmmmm. The last couple of days, among the things I've been thinking about are the circumstances of my parents' 50th birthdays (my Dad is 87, my Mom 77).

This past weekend, I asked both of them if they remembered marking the occasion in any way, but neither one could recall any specifics.

To tell you the truth, owls, neither one seemed to have much in the way of any memories of the events at all, let alone how they celebrated!

So I guess I have to try and fill in the details myself.

My Dad turned 50 on April 4, 1971. We had moved to Toronto in September of 1969, so his birthday took place in our first city house, #8 Hilholm Avenue. I was in 7th grade at a new school, looking forward to my first trip overseas coming up in the spring.

My Mom turned 50 on March 8, 1981. Lots had changed. I had moved out of the house, trying to complete my honors thesis, and facing my last set of spring examinations. Translation: I was pretty oblivious to the outside world. My Mom and Dad were living in a house in Thornhill by then.

That's the bare bones, but it sure doesn't offer much insight into their state of mind at the time.

What did it mean to my Mom and Dad to turn 50? I guess I'd have to say... I don't really know.

Hmmmm. Just some idle thoughts on a 50th birthday!

Thanks again for all your wishes, owls! :)

And... how did YOUR parents celebrate their 50th birthdays? I'd be curious to know and compare stories!

  72. I will throw MY laptop in the backpack, jump on the motorcycle and meet her either at Starbucks or somewhere that has WIFI access and let the lil HO play away~......

  74. Whabby:
Hello...Happy 50th! I so hope you enjoyed your day!

I don't really think my parents did anything for their 50th birthday's, and I know if I ask them now, they will say the same as your parents.

    They won't remember!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Hey everyone!

Happy Birthday dear Whabby! What festivities are you partaking in tonight for the big 5-0???

I love spending time with my family. My mom and dad are just over an hour away and we don't get to see them enough. They are so busy since my dad retired!

I have 2 brothers, 1 lives in Germany so we see him and his family once a year.

His wife was just here visiting as she travels to Washington state a lot for her job.

My other brother and his wife and son moved to NJ last year. Unfortunately his wife and I do not get along at all. She has always given us the feeling that she doesn't like most of us, mostly me and my mom.

Anyway, we were really sad when they moved, now my brother misses CA and his family and friends.

He gave up a very good job in SF.

It's hard not seeing my nephew who will turn 2 next month.

It's sweltering here again today, it's at least 110. The worse part is the terrible air quality. It's hard to breathe and we don't even want to go swimming tonight cause of it.

OK time to get out of work clothes!

  76. Mo:
Tina is giving you the reign! So my dear "sub crackwhore" start "spreading" the news to all!

    :O)

  77. WHABBY...interesting question. I have no idea. When my dad turned 50 I was 4. I'm sure I made him some lame card with the help of my mom and brother and we prolly went out to eat...or maybe not!
When my mom turned 50, I was 12. I imagine I bought her a card at the drugstore and gave her some lame gift that she pretended to love! I would guess my brother and I wanted to take her to dinner and she would have insisted on McDonalds or Perkins or Arby's! Maybe a Chinese restaurant. Since her birthday was 12/22, we always celebrated on Christmas, so it must have been at the China Gate restaurant and she would have gotten egg foo young! In fact as a child, I only knew of her birthday as 12/25. If it was Hanukkah that year, we were at my Aunt Sarah's house. She never let us take her to fancy or expensive places...even when we had the money to do so.

As far as their feelings about the event, I am sad now that I never asked her about it. I am not looking forward to it in the fall.

  96. My father refused to celebrate his 50th birthday.

He was very afraid of it approaching.

His mom dad at 43 and his dad at
    49.

Therefore, My dad always thought he would die before 50, so he wouldn't let us even whisper happy birthday.

I could never ever understand it.

I would think he would be so happy that he got to 50, longer then his parents.
