Scrambled Thoughts

i have missed blogging, i did not realize how
much i enjoyed putting my thoughts into
writing, until this week, when my break from
blogging occurred, it is somewhat freeing
to put all that is in my mind into words, it
releases that pressure of all thoughts being
jumbled, it puts things in order for me, as
you see in my mind, they run wild, however
here in black and white i can understand
them better, as i read them back the jumbled
thoughts become clear

this past week has been trying for me, here at
the nest and in my home life, it is strange to
me how it all occurred and blurred into one,
as i was trying to calm the waters here, my dad
was having problems, i, at first ignored his pleas
as i thought his ailments were just simple
everyday occurrences, actually truth be told
i was just to preoccupied, i was not focused,
i chose to scramble my priorities, and now that
i think back, i realize i scrambled in the wrong
direction~

when saturday arrived and i saw my dad, his eyes
foggy, his tummy upset, i went into action, and
off we went, the hospital admitted him, and my
priorities are now in order, never to be scrambled
into one again!

i do really feel in my heart that today will go well
with my dad, as we have been down this road before
and he is very strong, his heart doctor has known
him for 20yrs, and he is confident my dad will be
ok, so i am positive and will stay that way, until
someone tells me otherwise

♥Lovey's♥ Owls

here in the nest as the turmoil became apparent
and my helping hand was not able to smooth the
tide, i realized i had lost control, not only was
i front and center, but the most important personalty
trait of mine "control" was lost, as i so wanted to
control the situation, i so wanted the peace~
however it was not to be, so i let it go, i gave up
and took my wounded self in hiding, and let the
"control" go, one cannot control a situation that
was not in their being, one at a point of submission
needs to pass, like a game, when you pass your turn

so, i let the nest be, and will always be grateful to the
owls who kept it going in my absence, it was a group
effort, as it should be~~

today is our 200th blog, i think we will observe
today a little differently than the last time, we should
remember what brought us here, how we all came
together, how we started as perhaps 10 owls and
have now become close to 50 owls, all should comment
as each of you are important as the next, if you all
allow each comment to enter your heart for just
one moment and understand the reasoning for the
owls entry into the nest, perhaps we can get past
the hurt, perhaps there is a light at the end of this
tunnel, time will tell~~

Dad and me circa 1970

as you all read this i will be tending to my dad
who i love so very much, his procedure is today,
we will know today if a heart stent is needed
i will be with him, as i should be, my priority

i always say "baby steps" and it is time we
take ours!

congrats owls, on your 200th blog!

  13. Good morning and congrats on 1st-6th Joey! Your welcome for the food. I hope you enjoy it.

Carol you wrote a lovely blog for the 200th anniversary. Your family should always be your top priority. I hope everything works out well for your Dad.

I was asked by several people to come to this blog. I hesitated. I observed for a while. Then I dove in, unsure of what I was getting into. I was welcomed with open arms and the rest is history. I have be MIA at times only because my life has been in turmoil. You have all welcomed me, supported me and loved me. You even like my cooking! Lets remember today (as Carol tends to her Dad) what this blog has meant to each of us over the past several months.

    Happy 200th Blog!

Wow, Shirley, wonderful food spread! I'm so lucky the 200th blog falls on my b-day!

Thanks, Mo, for taking care of those Area 51 comments. I couldn't sleep last night and when I checked the blog and saw that, it really bothered me. But everything seems worse at night (why is that?) and today is a bright new day!

  18. CAROL: I am so grateful to you for creating the nest for all of us. It is a place where we can all come together to help those that hurt, celebrate together when things work out and joke and have fun with one another on a daily basis. As TINA wrote in one of the earliest blogs...this is OUR ROOM..and it is a wonderful room indeed.

JOEY: Congrats on FIRST on the 200th Blog!!

JODI: SWAK! MWAH! and BUMP-de-BUMP!! ;)

  27. Tinka- Only Carolyn is up right now. My boys are being sleepy heads. Carolyn and I snuggled on the couch for about a hour watching Barney together. Now she is eating her cheerios.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Any more acrostic poems? They are easy to write. Just think of a word and write beside each letter the first thing nice that
comes to your mind. I know there are a lot of creative owls out there.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thank you, iteach and Shirley. You're both so very sweet.

Shirley, I'm headed out shortly to go with my parents to pick up their new car. They finally sold their big ole caddy and got a small SUV. Then my parents and my hubby and I are going out to lunch (we went last night with the kids). I'm hoping tonight we can all play a fun game of UNO! I know, we're weird, but we all love playing card games together--my Dad is a riot! Thanks for asking!

  30. Tinka, I love your acrostic poem about Carol.

Congrats to you, Joey, for first, and the great breakfast. Oh, and I was also a little surprised that Lisa didn't win the Next Food Network Star. But AAron is a nice man.

Happy Birthday Sandie. Sounds like a fun day ahead of you.

Happy Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Tina. I hope your day has many Ahhhhhh moments.

Waving a Good Morning wing to Jodi, Shirley, iteach and Zona. Iteach, did you enjoy Barney.

Tink, Good morning, and I like your idea of writing an acrostic poem.

Carol, my prayers are with your Dad this morning and sending comfort to you and your worried family.

I am sending my best wishes for your dad today Carol. Loved the picture of you too- so now who was that fine young lad in the picture with you??

As with others, I was invited to this blog when it started. I waited a little while, (not long) because I didn't want the same old, same old. But I jumped in to it with open wings and it has been a delightful ride so far. So many old friends, and so many new.

I am sipping water, no coffee yet for me. But hoping to join in on the buffet line later today!

  43. Morning everyone! Joey, congrats on being first again! Thanks for the breakfast too!

I am so happy that Iteach invited me to join in on your blog. It really has helped give me a lift when I need it and to focus on others instead of myself! I am so happy with all the friendships I have formed here. I am glad to be a part of the celebration today!

Thanks Carol for creating this very positive place of safety! I will also be praying for your dad today.

Morning to Jodi, Tink, Shirley, Sandy, Zona, Iteach, Ronnie, and Goldie. Waving both wings at all who fly in later.

I am sad to think that once school starts (and more classes I have to take) that I won't be able to play as much in here. But I am happy for the present and am living in the moment now!

Have a great day everyone! Happy 200th blog!!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Goldie - I am sorry you were so sick. If you had asked me (nobody ever does, LOL) I would have told me to stay home today. The rule of thumb is to stay home for one day after you feel better. Otherwise, the first day back at work can be very hard because you aren't completely well. I know it's easier said than done. If you stay home feeling almost well you think you are cheating at your job. I can say that now that I am retired but I can remember doing the same thing. By the time you have made the car ride to work you feel like crawling into bed. That is the best part of retirement. If you don't feel well, you don't have to call in sick.

    Ronnie - Loved your poem.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good Morning Jennifer - You were a great addition to the nest. We will miss you when you are back at school and won't be able to post as often.

  52. Good Morning Owls!

    Carol: You and your dad will be in my thoughts and prayers today. {{Hugs}}

    Sandie: Happy Birthday!!!

I saw Miss Saigon yesterday at our Muny. Since it's an outdoor theatre, they were able to do the most impressive "Fall of Saigon" I've ever seen.

Instead of using a life-size helicopter prop on stage, like when I saw it back in '95, they flew in a real helicopter that hovered overhead during the scene and flew off once the GI's were evacuated.

It was incredible, and by far, the most memorable theatre experience out of all the shows I've seen!

Unfortunately, Mother Nature must not have been enjoying the show as much as we were, because a bad storm started brewing during the second act. Kudos to the actors who continued giving flawless performances despite flashes of lightning, rumbles of thunder, and people leaving.

About 10 minutes before the finale, they abruptly ended the show due to the storm. What a HUGE disappointment that was! Imagine being emotionally engrossed in a great book only to discover the last chapter is missing. It sucks!!!

Now, I remember why I don't buy season tickets to our Muny. :)

    Waving HI to everyone!

    Happy 200th blog!

  53. I came to the Nest almost a month after Carol built it. I hung out on the other blog on November 30th for a few days, then stayed pretty much to myself. Mo and I had become good friends and she invited me to join in here. Of course I was a little apprehensive because she also had asked me to play on the Ant Hill. LOL I was assured it wasn't another 'war-zone', and lurked for a week. She then dressed me in a feathered suit, and here I am.

I've met so many wonderful Owls, eaten fantastic meals, laughed until I had to go change clothes,
cried because my heart hurt for a friend, slept well because I was told good-night in an otherwise silent home. This all goes on and on, but you see my dear friends, all of you warm my heart.

  54. Second post

Joey got first! Woot Woot! Happy 200th! I snagged a waffle! I loooove waffles!

Shirley I will be back for your buffet in a bit! I loooove to eat!

    Happy Birthday Sandie!

Happy Anniversary to Whoretina and Mr. Whoretina!

I came to the nest beacuse I adored the people who had moved over here. They were some of my favorite posters on another blog!

I also loved the idea of everyone having a chance to post about anything and everything that was either on their minds or was happening in their lives. How fun for all of us to share and then to respond back with our own view points and ideas!

I come back everyday because I see the friendship, the love, the support and the plain craziness here!

I woke up this morning feeling overwhelmed by my life and I drug my butt in with a cup of coffee and right off the bat I could feel my mood getting lighter just by reading the blog and the first few posts! That is what you all do for me and this is why I stay!

So I am saying a huge THANK YOU, not just to Carol but to all of you who hold my hand and make me laugh everyday!

    Bless you all!

  55. so if I am respectful of everyone.....I can expect the same? Sounds great! I am not going to ignore the obvious here.

Respect is a two way street and in my book must be earned.

Courtesy and civility I was raised to show to all. Unless they were less than courteous to me or others.

Being kind takes so little effort, but, the other side of that, being unkind in the long run just steals from your own soul.

No, we won't receive a refund, and since it was closing night, we won't get to see this tour again. It was my third time seeing it so I was more disappointed for my friend, because it was her first time.

I'm sure the cast was disappointed too. They were amazing - best cast I've seen! I would have loved to have given them the closing night curtain call they so deserved.

  71. Amicus - That was a disappointment. I always feel so sorry when something is interrupted by rain and there is nothing we can do about it. I have been to weddings that were supposed to be out in gorgeous gardens and ended up in car ports because of a sudden storm. It's always so sad.

Zona - Great poem. I knew you would write a good one.

  80. Lynn - My darling. You missed my first line. I said "Yours was great Lynn". I am sorry if you took my little suggestion as a criticism. Oh dear, I didn't mean it that way. I guess I have been listening to too many Randy Pausch's speeches where he says to always push your most brilliant student to go to an even higher level. You did a great job. Love, Tinka

If they hadn't needed to end the show to cover all the technical equipment, I would have stayed through the lightning, thunder, hail, and high winds. A tornado sweeping me out of my seat is the only way I would have left. LOL!

Joey: Congrats on first and really cute graphic!

Sandie: Big hug!! That made me just sick to see and hated that it happened on such a nice blog too. :( I saw it but didn't know how to respond to that or even if I should. I just went on to bed, too late for me anyway.

I came to this blog because some of my friends encourgaged me to. I enjoyed getting to know people better and the laughter and the fun. I also enjoy reading all of your blogs Carol. They make me laugh, make me think, give me different points of view...etc., etc....

  92. Good Morning Bebbie and Dreama-

This is day 200. I think it should be a fresh start for everyone. Miss Tinka suggests that everyone thinks hard before he or she posts, do a draft, think again and then 'publish'. Let's comment today Owls. Let's Roll !!!!!!!!

I am off to take my babies to the groomers. Be back after my afternoon nap. I have been up 4 hours and it feels like 8.
Have a great day all owls.

  95. Apropos of yesterday's blog and ensuing comments:

This quote was from a news piece on Comcast this morning:

"A man who opened fire inside a church, killing two people with a shotgun hidden in a guitar case, was frustrated at being unable to find a job and blamed liberals and gays, police said on Monday."

As the Church Lady would say...

    "Isn't that special"!!!

  97. ***********OWL SAID*************

I meant to submit this last night but accidentally sent it to Custard instead! LOL These fine words from Whabbear are especially appropriate today:

We should strive to treat our fellow human beings with politeness and compassion and support, because as humans, we're kind of vulnerable creatures, aren't we, with sorrows and emotional scars and needs to be accepted and hugged by our fellows.

Okay, I will read the posts now.

  98. Good Afternoon Owls,

I came to this blog the day Carol set it up, infact she had to set up my account to post I had no idea how to THANK YOU CAROL.

I started off at Rossblog in June 2007, then moved to ANTS in July 2007. I met very nice people on them blogs. Then in Oct. 2007 I set up a myspace Ginger told me it was easy and fun I was hooked.

Carol started this blog in Jan. 2008, I love it. I know I don't post everyday, I'm raising 3 boys and taking care of my mother, and as everyone has said family is a prioity. My mom has slowed down ALOT since last summer, it scares me she has COPD and the doctor told us 2 months ago shes in end stage. I really am ignoring that. But I am trying to spend as much time with her as possible and I also informed my sister of that. I don't let my mom do to much anymore maybe thats good, maybe thats bad, shes 66 but I want her around till 100. Hey one can hope.

I know I deleted some people from my page a while back, I am sorry for that. I hope you gals can forgive me. But I sometimes as we all can be a little irrate and act immature. I asked someone for forgiveness (a blog buddy) in a very heartfelt letter to her. She told me to have a nice life. It hurt my feelings, but I guess I had it coming. But LIFE IS TO SHORT to hold grudges and be mean, I just learned this a few months back when I learned about my moms condition. I was raised by my mother to forgive, maybe not forget, but forgive and be nice. Like I said I'm sorry for hurting the people I deleted. This is very hard for me to write this, as asking for forgiveness is very hard to do. But getting hurt is also very hurtful as a lot of us know.

Carol, my thoughts and prayers are with your father today, I hope all goes well.

Ronnie: Thanks for letting me know who won on Food Network, now I don't have to watch it on DVR.

Donna: I'm glad everything went ok with your Mom.

Joey: I like your BLUE SIGN CUTE!!

    Sandie: HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

Tinka: My dogs need grooming, but its so hard for me to find the time. But I love the way smell and look when they come home.

Goldie: I'm still waiting to see MAX LOL

Dreama: Good Afternoon, we will talk soon.

Okay, I have to go help my mother get her pills ready for the week. Then I have to help her with a shower. I can just say one thing, I'm so glad I quit smoking when I did. BIG THANKS to my BOYS who made me quit. I only need to loose about 80 or more pounds. So I still question myself whats better smoking or the extra weight???

    Ok Mommas waiting.

    Love to all!!!!!

    Renee Eve xo xo

  99. Tinka just teasing you! (((Hugs)))

Whabbear I saw that and I find it very weird that he then shot people in a church. Very obviously a very disturbed individual.

When fear rules your life I think this is the outcome.

    Back to my cleaning.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Ohh I went and read the article about him and he blamed the church because he felt it was to liberal.

I wonder how he will feel about the very conservative murder laws in Tennesee?

I also wonder how a church can be to liberal sounds like those folks were trying to practice their faith to me.

    Just so very sad :(

  105. It took me FOREVER to catch up on the blogs and comments.....but I'm caught up now....and I have to tell you how incredible it was to meet Kgrl in Hawaii! She was so much fun and on our way to the airport, my youngest said, "Mom, I don't know how any of your other friends could be any cooler!" Kgrl is the cool Auntie~ We got to see her every day but one. And she is the BEST cook...she made us dinner.....and took us to the yummiest spots to eat~ We even went to the movies and saw Mama Mia.....thank God Colin Firth was in it!! :)~ I told Kgrl that a successful blog buddy meeting is one were you still want to talk to the person after you meet~ :D Dang......I really should call her! j/k~ Oh...and I loved the motorcycle ride and her roomies~ Basically...she's a hoot and my family loved her~ and we got to meet her friend Sunway and hear her sing......bonus~

Sorry that I missed you. I get why you deleted your Myspace down to size. It can get confusing if you have 100 people on it and then you get hacked. I am glad that you and I decided to exchange phone #s and get to know each other outside of the blog world. Only a few bloggers have my phone #. Trey is one of them in case he needs an emergency fix and needs chocolate chip pecan cookies made for him. LOL. And I have my ulterior motives with him.(Get your minds out of the gutter)!! I was hoping he'd send me pictures of Rosie from the cruise! LOL.

  110. Good Afternoon All Owls,
I just returned with my two freshly groomed babies. The groomer had help today so it only took 2 and a half hours which wasn't long enough to drive home and back there again. Brian and I had a lovely lunch overlooking the water, then a ride in the country. I am badly in need of a nap. I will be back in the nest this evening. Hope everyone is having a fun day.
    Love, Tinka

  111. Shirley, I'm going to try everything on the menu once. Then I will go back again for seconds. Next I will go to the bathroom to make more room for thirds. After thirds I will borrow my grandma's elastic band pants and eat fourths.

  114. Rosie News

I'm glad I wasn't able to get good tickets to the Hollywood Bowl Les Mis Concert, because Rosie has withdrawn from the show. She did so to take care of her son who has a broken wrist. A prayer for his speedy recovery.

    But, this is happy news...

Once a network television staple, the family-aimed variety show — think Carol Burnett or Ed Sullivan — has long been absent from the airwaves.

Emmy Award winner Rosie O'Donnell, the stand-up comic, actress, TV host and Broadway performer, producer and champion, may soon rectify that reality.

Fox News reports that O'Donnell, who was most recently on Broadway in the revival of Fiddler on the Roof, hopes to revive the variety-show format for network TV. The news organization says that O'Donnell's show would likely be filmed live Sunday evenings from a Broadway theatre (just as the old Sullivan show was) and would include a mix of skits, musical performances and various acts.

I hope it all works out, because I would love another variety show like Carol Burnett. :)

SHIRLEY~ OMG!!! Your fantastic, delicous, decadent, over-indulgent repast is too much to ask for!!! I was salivating over the menu! I have already tasted almost everything virtually, and seriously, may cook up some of the suggested menu for real this evening! You truly are: THE "MARTHA STEWART" OF THE NIGHT OWL BLOG!!! Actually you are BETTER than MARTHA, you are a woman unique and unto yourself!!! And, we are so very fortunate that you continually serve us only the best of cuilinary delights.

Carol~ my thoughts and prayers are with you today as you are with your Dad, and if he is in need of a stent, I know the Dr's will take wonderful care of him and do what is best!

I have so enjoyed reading everyone's posts today, and especially those clever ones who make up little poems, or other clever sayings!

That is why I come here. To be given laughter, encouragement when needed, give back support to those in need and above all RESPECT everyone's views and thoughts and opinions.

That doesn't mean any of us have to agree with everyone. There are way too many of us with differing opinions for that to happen! LOL!It just means we are NOT judgemental or disrespectful. We do not (or should not, maybe) be like the Ladies on The View, who talk and sometimes scream over each other.

Well Ladies and Gentlemen, I think it's time to go back over to Shirley's Ultimate Seafood Gourmet Buffet table and partake of just a bit more.

Since I started writing ths, I have been interrupted three times, so there may be more Owls that have flown in, so I wish all of you a wonderful Monday evening.

    Peace and Love to All,

  121. ***ALERT: Bear with me or ignore what will be a long post...your choice.***

I'm posting the following excerpt from a breaking news story here NOT to bring folks down, but just as another reminder of how fragile ALL are, and to be valued and appreciated while we can.

We were just talking yesterday about Hospice Care Angels on earth. This Angel was my dad's oncologist and local Director of hospice care. Dr. Gary Lee was a SUPERB athlete (World Record in Indoor Rowing, of all things) and the kindest, most gracious person--in ANY field--I have ever met.

HOOD RIVER, Ore. (AP) - A 55-year-old oncologist descending from the summit of Mount Hood died after a rock fell from the snow and knocked him a thousand feet downhill, authorities said.

Dr. Gary Lee of Eugene was an experienced climber who was with his son, Devon, Sunday afternoon when a rock "dislodged from the ice above" and hit him at about 9,000 feet on the 11,239-foot peak, the Hood River County sheriff's office said in a statement.

He fell about 1,000 feet before coming to rest in an area of rock and ice above Eliot Glacier, the sheriff's office said.

Lee specialized in palliative care for terminally ill patients, his practice's Web site said. He was medical director of hospice at Sacred Heart Medical Center. He had practiced in Eugene since 1984.

Efforts to retrieve his body began Monday. One mountaineer said it would be dangerous because of what he called the crumbling, "rotten rock" and softening snow that mark summer climbing on the volcanic peak.

I ask that you all continue in joy and friendship as if this had not been posted....but with added compassion toward ALL. Thanks.

    ********CAROL'S DAD UPDATE*******
I got a text from CAROL with news about her dad and she asked me to share it here.

His cath was pushed back to 12:30 EST. They did find a blockage and put in a stent.

I don't know how long he will be in the hospital, but I know we all wish him a speedy and full recovery.

  127. CAROL...great blog. I can not believe it has been 200 days already since the nest was built. You have given so selflessly of yourself to all of us, to make the house a home. The owls that have nested and the ones that only fly in for a respite and sadly the owls that have migrated away all bring a unique sense of themselves to the mix and that created a wonderful melting pot of friendships. If I weren't so old and my wings so tired, I would fly to all the states that are represented here and wrap my cowlie owlie (thanks Goldie!)wings around each and every one of you.

Thank you CAROL and all the OWLS!

I hope next year's test will be just as you all wish for!

BON'O~ I am so very sorry for the loss not only of a gifted Physician, but of someone you personally knew, and who was a part of yur life. Many heartfelt thoughts and prayers to you.

MO~ Thank you so much for updating us on Carol's father. Much love, good wishes and healing thoughts to our dear Carol and her family for a speedy and healthy recovery!

  138. Carol: Thank you again for creating this wonderful place for us and for selflessly tending it for us. I know how much time it takes out of your already busy schedule and I love you for it. I hope we can keep it the safe and loving place it started out to be.

  146. Hi Mo, My knee is doing great. thanks for asking. Now if I can just some of this tonage off, my knee would be grateful, I'm sure. Maybe some of that slicing like Shirley was doing on you the other night would help. :)
