♪♪ I Am what I Am ♪♪

Shirley Bassey, 1996, Germany

Our Sunday Music Video, is one of my very
favorite songs, from many years ago, I remember
as a teen, hearing it, and loving the words, however
at the time not really understanding the true meaning

As years when by, and I started visiting gay clubs, the
song was always played (along with YMCA, of course)
and my gosh, I got it, and loved its meaning more

This song is really very universal as
"I am what I am"
no matter my gender, my ethnicity
my sexual preferences, my religious beliefs,
my political views, or any other such trait,
it all begins with who I am, and my goodness,
if I can't me be, than my life would be a sham,
and that I would never allow to happen!

Be who you are, as we only have one Life!

Enjoy! :O)

  7. Great song Carol. This morning I am not sure who I am or where I am. I just realized it was Sunday morning and not Monday. That's what day I thought it was until I looked at the top of my computer screen and it said
Sun. 5:56. I think maybe I will go back to sleep. When I wake up again I may make more sense. Good Morning to all owls who fly in while I am sleeping.

  8. Carol - Good Morning. Thanks for the delete. I will check out the QOTD before I snuggle back down under the covers. I am not sure my doggies will let me do that however.

  9. Carol, I just got out of the shower and realized where I heard that song before.

It is the last song on Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Disco workout.

    Isn't that funny!

Sometimes I do my best thinking in the shower.

  10. Good morning Carol, iteach and Tinka!!

Congrats on first, iteach! You're up early--are you excited for school tomorrow? I hope you get a great class and have a great school year!

Carol, I've never heard of that singer but she sure could belt it out! You know, that's the good thing about getting older, we are better at being who we are, don't you think?

Tinka! Go back to bed! I hope Tia and Tango let you--you got up too early!

Have a great day everyone! I'm headed to my son's college--he forgot some things last weekend. Boys.

CPGEM: I don't think I've ever heard that song before..though I love Shirley Bassey. I wonder how I missed it??

I can honestly say, that with me, what you see is what you get. I don't necessarily like everything about myself..but all I can do is be myself and hope people like me the way I am.

    ITEACH: Congrats on FIRST!!

TINKA: Good morning!! I've been awake too long...I wasn't sure what day it was either til I brought in that big ol' fat newspaper!!

    SANDIE: Have a great day!

TINKA...I am sorry, but I don't remember the day the music died. But it certainly was a great loss.

    Congrats on first Iteach!

I am What I am and today I am tired! LOL

Wasn't Shirley Bassey an Opera star?

Obviously she is a very powerful singer!

I thought I would be back yesterday and it was a marathon day again for me. Had foodbank and then we went to our daughter and SIL's for a barbeque and did not get home until after 9.

Watched the Olympics and then crashed and then was woken up by a crazy thunder and lightening show with wind for an ovation! The house shook.

You would think it would have broken the heat spell here but no it is currently 68 degrees at 7:00 am. Yikes! I am thinking more possible storms today.

    Have a wonderful Sunday y'all!

PS D. Torres rocks! Let's here it for 41!!!

TINKA...I hope you got to get back to sleep!

SANDIE...have a safe trip back to your son's college. Maybe he left stuff at home so he can see his mom again!

TINA...say a prayer for me, too! I was at a beautiful old church in Little Italy yesterday evening. I hope it's ok that I said prayers there, too.

ZONA...BABY!! Good morning! I like you just the way your are!

CAROL...I haven't washed that grey right outta my hair in prolly a year now! I am getting kinda attached to it! It is just another thing that makes me who I am!

I better get some things done. There is a charity event at the local beauty school, where they are donating the proceeds to the fallen officer's family. I am going to get a trim and a manicure...all for $10 bucks! Finally something that is in my budget!!

OK...I'm off to bed...happy Sunday all!

  23. Hi ya Mo! Have fun getting the trim and Mani!!! Great Cause!

Zona no I don't want to trade, well unless yours is a dry heat? Really what the hell does that mean? Is it anything like a dry heave?

We have a humid or wet heat going. The only difference I see is that one fries your nose hairs when you breathe in and the other adds enough moisture to cause your nose hairs to expand and clog your sinuses!

Hmmm maybe I need to trim my nose hairs?

Lynn~~Get ready to rumble again! After quite a lightshow last night, right now it sounds like I'm living in the basement of a bowling alley. Every dog in the neighborhood just woke up.

  30. Good Morning All Owls

Iteach - I can't believe it has been a whole year since we were talking about what kind of class you were going to get. "Time Flies" is such a cliche but so true.
I am going to get my Richard Simmons "Sweating" video out to hear Shirley Bassey.

Carol - Thanks for putting my quote in 'pink'. It looks so pretty that way. I think I told everyone yesterday that I came home from the beauty parlor without getting my hair done. Now am I sorry. As my mother would say "I don't know why my hair is starting to turn grey now, it was always so nice and brown". Maybe we will be outside and I can wear a hat.

Sandi - I couldn't believe it. Tango and Tia just settled down this morning and went back to sleep. I feel so much better now.
Did you hide things on your son just so that you would have a chance to visit him today? I know that is something I would do.

Tina - Say a prayer or two for me today too. I will need them this week.

Zona-my-Baby - We are on opposite schedules. One sleeps while the other plays. Maybe that's why we get along so well. By the way "I likes what I sees". You are fantastic, now you say that three times over.

Maureen - I have really been missing you but you have been in my thoughts. Did you get my picture comments? They were my thoughts coming at you.
Yes, some of us had fun yesterday remembering my idol, Elvis.

Lynn - What a day you had yesterday. I hope you can relax today. You deserve it.
I don't like waking to thunder storms. I am always expecting the large tree at the front of my house to topple on us.
I loved your description of the difference between a hot and dry heat.

Bonnie - How sweet of you to call us all angels. You are one that's for sure.

Jodi - Your description of yourself was all wrong. I see a very beautiful lady looking back at my from your avatar.

Time for breakfast. Hi to all those who flew in while I was typing and to all owls still to fly in today. Have a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Iteach - I think I would send Mr. out for beef seasoning. It wouldn't taste gross but it wouldn't taste the same. It's up to you. Maybe the change would be great. I, however, would be afraid to risk it. I have never tried the chicken seasoning so I am no expert on this.

Shirley - Stop putting yourself down or I am coming across the country to "whoop you". You are a beautiful woman. Now say that three times.
I am so glad I didn't leave before you arrived with bagels and Slim Fast. Thank you.

    ReplyDelete

cpgem - I can't remember ever hearing that song - good choice - thanks for sharing..

Shirley - I agree with others - stop putting yourself down - I know that is easier said than done.

Lynn D - there is nothing DRY about our heat!! Right? Zona!!
    :-)

Iteach - I love Richard Simmons exercise tapes - I need to get them back out!!

cpgem and MO - I also need to "take care of the gray" - but I need to wait until next week!!
    :-)

Zona - love you just the way you are!!

Last night's swimming was AMAZING - Torres said that she shouldn't have filed her nails - got a chuckle out of that... She is older than the gold and bronze winners combined age - AMAZING!!! and Phelps - what can you say about that young man??!! WOW!!

    Hugs for EVERYONE today!!

Iteach: I too, hope your first day back is awesome!

Tink: My dad says that is one of the things about being retired. He never knows what day it is anymore! I hope your doggies let you take a nappy!! Have fun at your birthday celebrations.

Tina: I hope church was good.

Mek and Carol: Taking care of the grey is on my agenda today. (oops I am a poet and didn't know it!)

A thanks to everyone who welcomed me back! I'm sorry I still haven't been able to keep up with blogs or comments. I'm hoping to finally settle back into a more normal routine this week. :)

Cpgem: Love today's blog! It's a powerful song with a fantastic message! It was written for the musical, La Cage aux Folles, in 1983 though so it's not quite as old as you're remembering. I was in my early 20's when I first heard it. :)

    I yam what I yam!

From A51: Dianne, Tink, et al: I'm starting to feel terribly guilty! I would have LOVED to invite YOU ALL to the wedding. Unfortunately, Huz has this thing about inviting people who he doesn't know.

    Can you believe it? :(

  38. Hello, all you lovely Owls.

    iteach Congrats on first!

Carol Great blog and great video! Besides singing "Goldfinger", Shirley Bassey also sang themes for the Bond films "Diamonds Are Forever" and "Moonraker". She has been a favorite character of female impersonators as are Barbra Streisand and Cher. They're all kind of bigger than life.

One thing about getting older is the willingness to accept who you are and let that be just fine.

  39. Since I'm a music-geek, and had only heard Gloria Gaynor do this song before, I was 'snooping the web'...This really made me go 'Hmmmmm' and explains further my disappointment in organized religion:

Bono: It is so humid and heavy here I am sure we are in for some Storrrrmy Weattther!

I guess after reading Justlins post that Ms. Bassey was not an Opera singer. I don't know why I thought that other than when I watched the video she was so good at enunciating and rounding out each word and putting so much feeling behind the song!

So I learned something new today! Always a good thing!

Justlin wipe the coffee dribble on your chin off. I won't go into how my armpits are like perfect suction cups today. Yes I did do some grooming there yesterday and with this hot humid weather they are sticking like no bodies business! Ooops sorry TMI and I did go into it!

I am glad I went back to bed at 5:45 this morning and slept a couple of hours or I may not have made it through the party. We seniors need our naps after lunch and today that was party time.
Thanks to all who supported me when I didn't know what day it was, even if Bear had to tease me about it. Just wait my dear Bear. Who is going to be laughing when I show up uninvited to your wedding with not just Dave but Brian too as escorts?
Dianne - We will have to practise the song for Bear's wedding over the phone. We won't have time when we get there.
I will read the rest of the comments after a short rest. Our 3 day heat wave is over and everyone is happy about that. I hear some thunder in the distance. Maybe we will get some excitement here.

Well, I missed the haircut ;( I fell asleep and when I finally woke up and got dressed and over there, it was over ;(

I did run a bunch of errands and visited with some friends, so all was not lost! And I gross-ery shopped, so I can have lunches this week!

I hope everyone had a great day today!

I will try and fly back later on and stay a while!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Thanks for all the good owl wishes for a fun day with my son. Hubby and I drove down and had lunch with him. He's growing up so much. His room was spotless! I think he's feeling some pride of ownership (rentership?) in this house he's in. Thank goodness! The last two places were pig sties! (Sorry, Mo.)

Whabbear, I have this vision of a large group of women, and Joey, showing up at your wedding!! All wearing red stilettos and tassels, of course! Well, maybe not Joey. And Huz saying, "What the???"

I'm off to pay some bills and watch Army Wives. Have a great evening, owl friends!

Hey! I have been out most of the week end. David begged me to attend the RC airplane dinner and meeting. He built a scale Zero with an 80" wing span for "show off" night. :0) I didn't fall asleep as I had imagined I might. I sat beside an older jazz drummer who made up a song for me and put my name in it.He sang it for me.That was really cute. Also a very unique RCer was there who had on Harley clothing and long skull tattoos up and down his arms. I stared at his tattoos the entire evening. There was even 2 other women there. :0)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Ok TINK: I will practice the wedding song with you on the phone and then we will meet at the wedding. BTW, BEAR, you do know me so I can be invited and TINK is my guest. So ITEACH, you think I might meet my future husband crashing the wedding. Well first of all, I had better not tell MR D about that plan and secondly, I think I have had my share of husbands in this world!! :)

Tammy is still not feeling well and is in pain from the surgery.

DONNAJEAN: I hope Laurie is doing better today and that you got some sleep last night and today.

Guess I need to go and practice my song for BEAR'S wedding now.

JUSTLIN: My granddaughters came in while I was checking MS and they saw their pictures so they wanted to see what people wrote about all of them. They kept saying, "go to the cowboys picture". Now they think I have a cowboy friend!

Dianne - Our song will be perfect if we practise enough. What colour will you be wearing? Will it clash with my pink?
I don't want another husband, not unless he stayed in his own house. He may make me take out my pink carpet and change my pink bedroom. etc. etc. etc.

Prayers for Tammy tonight will be coming up shortly. I am heading for bed.

Good Night Owls. See you in the morning.
