Olympics 2008

The Olympics this year, has me glued to the T.V. These athletes from all the different countries are just so focused, it seems whatever sport they are competing in, it is with their whole body and soul . I cannot even imagine the training and preparation that goes into each of their sports. I hear these athletes train for three years leading up to the Olympics, this just baffles me, as my attention span and drive, is about as big as a pinhead!

I am so very proud of our American athletes, they are doing so well, and continue to prove that America produces some of the best in the world. Michael Phelps is a perfect example of a well trained athlete, as he goes into every event as if it is was the first time he is striving for gold. I love watching his family in the crowd cheer him on, hold their breathe, watch him win. And then as in any family, when the race is over, the tears flow with pride and joy. To watch him swim is captivating, I am totally in awe.

The age of these athletes, astounds me, as many are in their early 20's, which is so young for one to be so competitive. I would assume their training prepares them for a win or loss, and no matter what the outcome is, I would think they become stronger.

With each event, I find myself drawn in more. The synchronized diving, is so intense, how the heck do they stay together, such focus, amazing. I love the vault, as they run with speed, and when they reach their prey, you can see the intensity on their faces, you then just sit back and enjoy the artistry they have created.

I am full of pride for our American athletes, I am overjoyed at the capabilities they possess. It is really a thrill to watch them.

I wish them all luck, and of course to bring home the gold, silver or bronze, because to me any medal they receive is a medal of honor. And if no medal is given, each of them sure did give it their best. And really can you ask for anything more!

GO USA!

  2. I haven't had the time to watch much of the Olympics this time, but have always enjoyed them in the past.

I really enjoy the gymnastics, especially the girls. I am always amazed at the strength and control they have over their bodies, and also the dedication and time that goes into the their training.

  3. Great Blog Carol! GO TEAM USA!
Can hardly wait for 2010 when the Olympics will be in Vancouver! Can I come stay with some of my Canadian Owls and watch the games?

Another busy day here. I'll be out the door very shortly. I realized this morning that I haven't accomplished half of what I planned to do this summer, and I didn't even set that many goals! Life sort of got in the way.

    Have a great day everyone!!!!

  4. Morning Hart!

Was just skimming yesterdays comments and I totally hear you about benefits! My sig others company has a Health Savings Plan. What a joke!!! He has to pay the first $5000.00 of medical expenses himself.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh my scirish! $5000?!?! I was upset because we have to pay the first $3000! Then after that, they will pay 80%. With all my meds & required doctor's visits, I don't know how we're going to do it.

Hey, speaking of the Olympics. Did y'all hear that story about the little girl who sang in the opening ceremony? She was lip syncing because the girl who was actually singing wasn't "cute enough". Chinese officials said the girl had to be flawless and cute. That is SOOOOOO wrong! Plus, the little girl who actually sang WAS cute! VERY cute!!!!

  6. If you haven't heard about the story I just mentioned, check out this article:

  7. Hart....What in the world happened to your basement????

    ReplyDelete
  8. Donna Jean and Dianne...Will be thinking of you both today

    ReplyDelete
  9. Hart- I also had a lot of goals for this summer and I didn't accomplish them all.

I vowed next year that I am not going to set so many goals.

  10. scirish: My basement flooded back in June. We got the wet carpet up but there was water damage in closets and under cabinets. This wasn't the first time we have flooded. We found out that mold is growing in the walls, insulation, and the wood trim. Even the cabinets and shelves are going to have to ripped out and pitched. The carpet glue on the floor is the real job. Need some heavy equipment to get that up. NOT putting carpet back down there again.

  11. Good morning iteach!

Positive thoughts go out to Dianne, Tammy, Donna Jean & Laurie Elizabeth.

  12. Good Morningn Feathered Friends!

CAROL...I was shocked at my captivation of the olympics this year. I really had no desire to watch, but find myself glued to them when I do tune in. I agree...then synchronized diving...mesmerizing. And I couldn't look away during the men's gymnastics. I was so proud of those kids. And Michael Phelps...AMAZING. So strong yet he seems to just artful in his strokes. I am awed by all their talent, dedication and humbleness.

SCIRISH...congrats on 1st! How can the average person come up with $5000 a year? That is aboninable that that is considered having coverage. This is 2008 and our citizens shouldn't have to suffer like that, especially if and when they do get ill. The insurance issue really gets my goat going. GGggrrr.

    HARTLDO...I'm sorry about your basement issues. Won't your insurance pay for the mold removal, if nothing else? I heard from someone else that their insurance wouldn't pay for repairs, but would for the mold issues. I hope you can get this taken care of. {{{hugs}}}

Oh dear, I didn't realize today was the day that both Tammy and Laurie Elizabeth are having their procedures. My thoughts and prayers go out to TAMMY, LAURIE ELIZABETH, DONNA JEAN and DIANNE. I hope they will check in and give us good news soon.

ITEACH...You may not have accomplished all the goals you set this summer, but if you had an enjoyable summer with your family, then I would say it was successful! Don't be too hard on yourself. Shit, I still haven't accomplished half the goals I set 20 years ago!! ;)

I'm sure lots of owls flew in while I was typing my novella, so waving HI to all!!!

  13. Good morning,

Congrats on #1 scirish. I agree with you about the high cost of medical insurance. $5,000 is really a big deductable.

Donna, I'm really sorry about the mold in your basement. I've never had to contend with it, but have watched on HGTV all that has to be done to remove it. What an ordeal.

Good morning iteach...I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the third interview for your hubby.

Dianne, I'm still keeping Tammy in my prayers, and hope you enjoy your day with her today.

    Donna Jean and Laurie Elizabeth,
I'm praying for a positive outcome for Laurie tomorrow and will be happy when all of this surgery is over for her, as well as you. I really have a good feeling, and grateful for modern medicine.

  14. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first Scrishy!

Carol I so agree with you it is a wonder to watch the Olympics. I am always amazed at their dedication and in many cases the sacrifice and willingness to give everything up to train. These are truly amazing people and athletes.

I have watched events I have never watched in the past and still end up glued to what is happening on the screen. I love that the majority of them are not professional athletes and that brings me pride and joy.

PS the diving was amazing and scary at the same time!

I have foodbank this morning and am running late so I will check back in later!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Hart....Don't know if this will help...but I just got tile glue up with acetone. It smells but it worked!

  16. Morning Mo,

Like you, I am enjoying the Oylmpics, and so very proud of our American young people.

I didn't know about the little girl who sang at the opening ceremonies. That's very hurtful for the actual child that was told she wasn't "cute" enough.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Gosh I just read the comments for this morning. I did not have time to catch up from yesterday.

DonnaJean and Dianne: Wishing all the best to both of you! Sending up prayers for a healthy positive outcome for both!

  22. I am sickened that anyone can tell a child they are "not cute enough". But, I guess I am not surprised considering their version of human rights.

RONNIE...good morning! I hope you got a good nights sleep.

LYNN D...have a good day at the Food Bank. You do such great work for them and your community.

  23. Good morning Carol....

Would the little girl on the front page be our crackwhore, Tina?

    Too cute!!!

Yes Mo, why are you home?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ronnie:
I so agree, the little girl who's voice they used, was told she was not up to the standards they were looking for..

    Just awful...

    ReplyDelete
  25. CAROL...I am fine! I have to work on Saturday, so I was given today off. No need to worry, and thanks for asking. How are you??

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ronnie:
Crackwhore you say? Love that word in the morning, it just gives me goosebumps...

    ReplyDelete
  27. Carol, It's a good thing they didn't say something like that to one of our American little girls. Talk about Mother Bears going into fighting mode.

    ReplyDelete
  28. HOLY FRICKIN MOTHER OF PEARL!! That IS Tina! She looks the very same today, except for shorter hair!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well Mo, a shame we don't live closer, since you're off today, we could 'do' lunch. That's one of the things I do best.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mo:
I am good... So what are you going to do on your day off? Is there a pool or lake near by, that you can go chill with a good book. You so deserve some me time... :O)

Just don't be a crackwhore today, I hear the streets are pretty crowded where you live, and the crackwhore line is way around the block... :+)

  31. Good Morning Scirish (first), Donna, Iteach, Lynn, Maureen Carol, and Ronnie.

  35. Good Morning Hooters!
    Congrats on 1st Scirish.

I LOVE the Olympics. I watch things that I could give 2 shits about any other time. I am glued, mesmerized, captivated and entertained like cat with catnip.
Even my husband will watch gymnastics and ice skating (in the winter) which he never will any other time.

My prayers for Donna Jean and Laurie, and Dianne and Tammy.

Holy Crapolla! I pull into the cul-de-sac this morning and there is all this foam in the street, then I look up and there are fire trucks and police cars in front of my office building!!! But- it was the building next to us- Luthern Social Services and 4-C Child care that burned down. So sad. Not much left but the brick and metal, they are still working it. So the road is blocked, the cop has me park on the median. They have blocked off our parking lot and driveway with yellow tape (it runs right next to that building) and its a big frigging nasty putrid air mess. Starting to smell it in my office, but when you are outside- ICK, No one got hurt, so that is a great thing. I had to grab the phone and call the bosses and tell them Not to come in until much later and had to cancel an appointments too. No parking and big fire trucks in the way. What a way to start the day. BUT on the upside, there are same damn cute firemen out there and I have windows in my office that I get to watch.

Hope everyone has a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Good morning Tink, enjoy your day with your Mother. The Gardens were beautiful, thank you for taking us along.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have to go, work is calling me!

    Everyone:
Have a great day! And remember to Smile :O) ♥♥♥

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congrats scirish on first! Hi to everyone from my phone at work, Just flying by

    ReplyDelete
  39. RONNIE...I too wish we could do lunch one day. If I ever win the lottery (well, I guess I would have to buy a ticket!)I would fly down in a second and treat ya to lunch! Same for all my dear owl friends! And I would repair HARTLDO's basement, I would allow MR.ITEACH the opportunity to pick and choose his next job without financial worries in the interrim, provide ITEACH enough school supplies for the next few years, would donate enough food and money to LYNN D's food bank that her community would be fed and full for years, do all my traveling thru CAROL's agency, buy BIRDEE her own car that is not to be shared, buy SHIRLEY a car so she can tool around and not wait for LOVEY to swing by and get her!, build MEK, TINA, ZONA, SACBARB, and the other crafters a craft room filled with supplies for the ages, would set K-GIRL up in all the poker tournaments she could ever want to enter and put in a trust for SCIRISH so she never has to touch her $5000 deductible. TINKA would have a gardener visit and set up her backyard to look like a mini Butcherts Garden, GOLDIE would get enough flour and chocolate to make brownies for everyone and JODI would never have to buy glazers again! Phew, I am exhausted now!! Dreaming is tiring!

    ReplyDelete
  40. GOLDIE...so sad about the fire. Thank heavens no one was hurt. Isn't there something just so damn sexy about firemen? LOL!

BEBBI...good morning to you and your phone at work!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ok, one of the firemen came into talk to me about the parking and driveway. Apparently they are concerned that the wall of the burned building could fall, and would land in our drive, so they are not re-opening it today. So mor appointments to cancel. Guess it is going to be a quiet day here.

Mo- with rising price of flour I am thrilled you will be buying the *brownie* ingreds. But honey, that is NOT the most expensive part of the recipe if you get my drift....LOL

    ReplyDelete
  42. I too have been watching a lot of the Olympic coverage but unlike my American owl friends I haven't had much to cheer about. Unfortunately Canada has yet to win a medal. Our athletes are doing the best they can but they don't have the support from their government that a lot of other countries do. Our athletes don't have the financial support they so desperately need to train the way they should be training. It is sad for the athletes and it makes me angry that our government doesn't want to help them more. Hell our Prime Minister couldn't even take the time to go to the opening ceremonies while so many other countries had there leaders there for support. I wish the athletes well. GO CANADA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. GOLDIE...I get your drift, but I figured you would just grow that special ingredient yourself!!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congrats on 1st Scirish!

Good morning Hartldo, Iteach, Maureen, Ronnie, Lynn D, Carol, Tinka, Goldie and Bebbi.

Still not feeling well so the thought of making breakfast is just that...a thought. Maybe Maureen can shave off some more bacon for everyone and make BLTs. Have a good day. Off to watch more Olympics.

    ReplyDelete
  45. SHIRLEY...I'm sorry your atheletes haven't gotten any medals yet. I hope they are just as proud of themselves for even being Olympic Athletes. They are still amongst the best in the world.

Are you feeling better today? I sure do hope so.

    Bon Appetite

    ReplyDelete
  47. Shirley....Have you tried eating rice? It seems to absorb the ickies and sets well on an upset tummy. I usually make it with a chicken bullion and a little butter in it so it doesn't taste so bland.

    Hope you feel better!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Remember what I said about the cute firemen? Well hold the phones sista1- the cops are better!!

I just had officer McDreamy come in and ask if we had a microwave. He has to stay stationed outside and could he please use it to heat his lunch up, because he was starving. Hell yes! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  49. Goldie did you tell the cute policeman you would help him heat up his lunch? **wink wink**

    ReplyDelete
  50. Thinking about DJ, LE, and Dianne today. Best wishes for successful outcomes!

Carol e al: I'm totally into the Olympics this year too, with one small caveat. I years past, I seemed to resonate more to individual people than I am this year. I remember individuals from previous gymnastics teams, like Kerri Strug, Shannon Miller, etc. etc, quite vividly. This year, I don't even know who the individuals on the US team are, and that's still the case after watching them last night!

    Weird, huh?

Anyway, that's just a minor thing. Loving the competition! Go Michael Phelps!

    And echoing Shirley: GO CANADA!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Scirish thanks for your suggestion but I don't like rice.

On a serious note I think we should all think about how we can help Maureen. Her problem seems to be getting worse. At first she was only shaving a little bit here and there but OMG did you see the menu she made today? She has completely lost all self control. She is no longer just shaving, she is now hacking away at herself and we as her friends must help. Come on Owls lets get together here and help our struggling pig/owl. She needs us. We can do it! Maureen put the axe down!!

    ReplyDelete

LOVE beach volleyball, LOVE gymnastics, LOVE diving, LOVE all the swimming!!!

I am AMAZED at young Mr. Pelps, he is AWESOME!!

MR. EBJ and I were shocked when we heard the news last night about the Chinese girl lip-syncing, because the "real" singer was not cute enough.

D in D, best wishes for your daughter.

Ditto for DJ & Laurie, sending positive thoughts for you.

Hart so sorry about your basement

Any bald headed Firemen... I think there is nothing sexy-er than a bald headed fireman... don't ask!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Mo: No, my home owners insurance will not pay for mold removal. So go out and buy a lottery ticket already! ;)
Thanks for the beautiful Olympic Brunch! How festive!

scirish: Acetone was mentioned yesterday by the guys who came to give me an estimate. They said that this would be harder to remove, though, because it's on concrete, has been there for years, has been flooded many times, etc. I don't understand it. That's why I'm letting pros handle it this time. Servpro is who we called, by the way.

So glad no one was hurt in that fire goldie! My ex-husband is a firefighter. Let me tell ya, most of them think they are sexy, and I think arrogance is very unattractive.

Shirley: I sure wish you felt better. What can we do to help you?

Happy Anniversary IBB! (Thanks for letting us know that mek.)

    ReplyDelete
  60. scirish Congrats on being first in the nest today!

    IBB Happy 20th Wedding Anniversary!

My second husband was 6'4", bald, and a police lieutenant. Does that count?

Carol Great blog today! I love the Olympics and I always am glued to the tv. Isn't Michael Phelps phenomenal? I just really enjoy watching everyone strive for excellence, no matter what country they are from. It is too bad about the little girl singer. My understanding is that they didn't like the fact that her front teeth were still baby teeth and were shorter than her other teeth.

Tina Love your pic. You look exactly the same except for the hair style.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Just Lin.. of course that counts... !!!!

  67. IBB- HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!!!

I am home from lunch and sorrily tempted not to go back to the office. I got in my car and it reeked of smoke. Icky poo.

It will be more interesting to get back and see if my spot in the median is still open, because I am not parking a mile away and walking. I'll have to go flirt with my McDreamy and have him find me a spot...;)

Hart- sorry about the mold. I think the whole thing about flooding not being covered is a bunch of crap. what is the difference between that and a tornado? A natural disaster is just that....

Hartldo I hope you get rid of that mold ASAP. That's nasty stuff and can make you very sick. Thanks for your concern about me. I haven't spent nearly as much time in the bathroom today, so I think that is good. I just have that "icky" feeling and I'm tired.

Dreama thanks for the help with the intervention. ***whispering...I think she is in the denial stage***

Happy Anniversary Mr. & Mrs. IBB.

Whabbear I hope your fantasy comes true. Your eyes come to rest on his "gun" right? I love cliff hangers!

Maureen I'm glad that in my near death weaken condition I can still make you ROFLMFPAO. I'm afraid I'm too old and not nearly good enough for a career in writing, but thanks anyway for saying so.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Shirley Are you kidding me? Yes, you are good enough. I've told you that before. Plus, you are never too old to get into writing. Now, if you wanted to become a professional baseball player, that'd be different.

    ReplyDelete
  81. SHIRLEY...If ya don't wanna listen to me, I'll get over it...*sniffle sniffle*, but listen to JUST LIN..she is SMART! You are very talented. Your writing comes from your heart. And you're funny as hell! Maybe you could try to write a couple of short stories and send them to some magazines.

    ReplyDelete
  82. SHIRLEY- you are going to be the same age without a career in writing and you have the talent! Go for it. Just don't forget us 'little people' when you make it big. Seriously, you have a gift and you should use it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. yes, listen to GOLDIE, she is smart, too!

  84. Scirish~congrats on no.1!

Carol~That is my fav. pic. of Phelps. He amazes me, but like Mr. Mary says,"they are all winners to me since they made it this far".

Hatldo~ Not long after we bought our home, our basement family room flooded. What a mess! It was fully carpeted with foam padding. The carpet was so heavy from the water that we had to cut in small sections to remove. We use sharp shovels to scrape the padding off. We discovered that the prev. homeowners who built the house never had a drainage system put in.
Ins. would have paid if a water pipe had busted. Crazy eh?

Diane and Donna Jean~ I sent out my prayers for you and your precious daughters.

MEK~ When I had my knee replacement 3 yrs ago they didn't have a "woman's" knee type for replacement! WTF do I have? Could explain why my knee is so cranky all the time lol!

IBB~ Congrat to you and Mr IBB!!

WHABBEAR~ Come on now be honest, you like them "out-of-uniform" too lol!!

Goldie~ Keep on lookin' lady heh heh!!

Scirish~~YAY on 1st and wish you well for the big move this weekend!

Donna~~Ouch! I want to do a kitchen and bath remodel, but at least that's 'elective surgery'.

Shirley~~Don't forget J.K. Rowling was on welfare and no spring chicken when she began Harry Potter! And Grandma Moses started painting in her 70's, so....

  107. BBQ pork??? Count me in- thanks mo!

Lynn, damnit I was so intent on watching I never thought to ask. Everyone was in full gear most of the day. The news just showed a live shot and it is smoking and flaring up again. Dang, and I am not there to watch those fine young, lean, fighting machines. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hidey Ho Owls. I hope everyone is having a good Hump day.

Carol, I love the blog today. I too have been watching the Olympics every chance I get. I even turn on the TV to watch them if I wake up in the middle of the night. USA Channel has some events that NBC doesn't have. As some others have said, I also tear up at the playing of our National Anthem. And last night I got all teary-eyed when I saw Mrs. Phelps and how proud she looked after he won his 11th gold medal to become the athlete who has won the most Olympic gold medals.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Congrats on first, Scirish! How's the house stuff going?

    Carol, great blog--love the Olympics!

Donna, so sorry about your basement. If only money really did grow on trees like my kids think . . .

iteach, you crack me up . . . not going to set so many goals next year! I wasn't expecting you to say that! Best of luck to your hubby!!

Mo, Yeah!! A day off--good for you! Now do something fun!

    IBB, Happy Anniversary!!

    Bon'O, missed you!

Shirley, you are so funny--I would love to read anything you write!

Donna Jean, best wishes for an easy surgery for Laurie Elizabeth--I'll be thinking about her and you.

Dianne, best wishes for your daughter's surgery, too. I'll be thinking of her and you, also.

Goldie, firemen and policemen!! Oh my! I hope the smoke smell comes out of your car.

Iteach, I am still praying for your Hubby to get a job very soon.

Mo, You are so generous with you lottery winnings. Did you save any money for yourself? Also, I love pulled pork sammies, but I love pork chops, too...Oh, hell, I'll just take some of everything. Thx.

    Ronnie, LOL @ 'mother bears'

Hey LynnD, thanks for the shout out. Back atchya

Goldie, Gotta love those men in uniform. I changed my phone service to the cable company, so the cute cable guy was here again today. Yummmm

Shirley, So, what's the worst that can happen if you send a story to a magazine? You won't be any worse off than you are right now, but you could be a published writer. I say GO FOR IT!

IBB, Happy Anniversary to you and Mr. IBB and a million more.

MEK, Thanks so much for the spoilers last night.

Dianne and Donna Jean, Still praying for you and your daughters.

Its seems we have some very smart owls in these nest! The amazing night owl has been revealed

Off to read the all the comments, as I just skimmed :O)

  123. My daughter just cracked me up!

There's a girl down the street who keeps calling Aubree and asking her who she likes, who her friends like, etc. She is always trying to get into Aubree's business and Aubree handles it well but she is getting real tired of it. Of course you know I just lectured her on being nice to everyone. I do feel for her though, as this girl is really annoying.

So, the girl just called and asked her if her friend liked so-and-so. Aubree said, "Why do you keep calling and asking me these questions? I'm not trying to be mean but I'm not the school newspaper."

    LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Mary: You're right. Homeowner's Insurance WOULD pay for a broken water pipe, but not a flooded basement. UGH! We were the same way with our carpet....Had to cut it out in little pieces. That carpet was like a sponge full of water!!

I came home from my daughter's play practice and a trip to the grocery store to find guests waiting on my back porch for me. I had such a headache and certainly didn't feel like entertaining. Why do people show up unannounced like that? I wouldn't do that to anyone!

I still have my headache but I do feel a little better after receiving a phone call from my son. He and his wife are coming home over Labor Day! YAY!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Shirley: My daughter & I actually saw that episode of "Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader". It was so funny! Kelly is adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  126. SHIRLEY...you could write about your adventures in blogging. Or growing up in a small town. Or just make up something fictional..you are creative enough to do that. I agree with whoever said...you have nothing to lose but so much to gain. GO FOR IT GIRLFRIEND!

SANDIE...would you like some syrup for your two pancakes? LOL!! Seriously, hope everything is ok.

    Anyone hear from DIANNE yet?

    ReplyDelete
  127. Hello All!
Maureen, thanks for saying hi to my phone, it said hi back..hehe ;)

Sandie, Work was great, busy afterward though...*sigh* always busy. That was a really funny thing your daughter said. Smart Girl!!

Hey Shirley! Thanks for the shout out.

Tina, Your picture was awesome. Very cute!!

    Hello to everyone else.

  128. Happy Wednesday Evening Everyone!

I have been skimming the posts, after a very long, hot day! I took Laurie for mani/pedi's and a new haircut, so she looks cute on the surgery table tomorrow!

Thank you, each and every one of you for all your prayers, thoughts and positive vibes that you are sending to us!!! They are so very much appreciated!

I am so happy that I have found such wonderful friends on the Nest. Each one of you is unique and wonderful and beautiful, inside as well as out!

I will try to let you all know how the Pacemaker Surgery goes tomorrow, Thursday, but most likely won't be back on the Nest until Friday or maybe even Saturday.

I do have two Lovely Owl's phone #'s, so I might just call them and give them an update, and ask them to post for me.

I noticed Dianne hasn't checked in yet. Many prayers, hugs and positive thoughts for a successful surgery for Tammy.

    Until later my dear friends,
    Peace and Love to all,
    Donna Jean and Laurie Elizabeth

Sandie, LOL at Aubree "not the school newspaper. BTW, I love her name.

DonnaJean, Thanks for the update. I'm sure everything will go very smoothly tomorrow. Hope o hear from you soon.

  136. With all due respect to Iteach & her diet #463, I think I like the Michael Phelps diet...Holy Moses! I know some of you would find it a little short on chocolate, but I think I gained 3 pounds just reading this ~~~

Breakfast: Three fried-egg sandwiches loaded with cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, fried onions and mayonnaise. Two cups of coffee. One five-egg omelet. One bowl of grits. Three slices of French toast topped with powdered sugar. Three chocolate-chip pancakes.

Lunch: One pound of enriched pasta. Two large ham and cheese sandwiches with mayo on white bread. Energy drinks packing 1,000 calories.

Dinner: One pound of pasta. An entire pizza. More energy drinks.

    ReplyDelete
  137. SacBarb, I love Sandie's daughter's name too.

Due to the fact that it is my great-grandfathers name, my dad's name, and my son's middle name. :)

It is a total girl's name now.

I got the weirdest text from Dianne today. I don't think it was meant for me....but it was cute and funny....so it was good to see her sense of humor was still intact~

Carol~ I haven't watched the Olympics once. I haven't been home. It might be a good thing because just watching the winner makes me cry...doesn't matter where they are from~

  148. I pay my own health insurance its about $475.00 a month, however I have a very strict HMO. If I don't go out of network I have no deductible and pay nothing other than copays. I have to get referrals for every doctor I see, and all my test etc have to be preapproved. It is a pain in the butt, however it is what I can afford, and most all my doctors are in the HMO plan. So it works..

The HMO also includes a 50/50 prescription plan, I pay 50%, the plan pays 50%, it works for the most part, as all my meds that I take on a daily basis are not that expensive...

Health Insurance for us should never be a hardship, we should be able to get health care at nominal rate, but that is so not the case..

    It really is a shame.

    ReplyDelete
  149. Oh my goodness, that last comment made me so sleepy, all that typing wore me out...

  150. BON'O...I heard of Michael Phelps diet the other day. Now, I know he burns thru every calorie he takes in, but I am concerned with the fat content...aren't there healthier ways to get the calories he needs? I guess when you are that active, it doesn't matter and the cholesterol won't be a problem. I missed that day in med school ;)~

CAROL...it was fun being in the nest today!

WhoreTINA...does that mean we get more pics of you?????? Yipeeeee!!!

    ReplyDelete
  151. MoHo I'm not sure, but I don't think Michael eats that way all the time. I think that's his diet during really rigorous training and competing.

  152. Attn Owls:

I just got an update from DIANNE:

Hi....we are home from the hospital and Tammy is in bed sleeping. It has been a long day. They ended up taking out 3 of her lymph nodes and one was as large as a date. It makes me nervous and the Dr. didn't even tell me, Tammy did. He is hoping results will be back by Friday or Saturday and he is working over the weekend. Tam is on drugs and was starving so we had to pick up womething for her to eat on the way home. Thanks and please keep praying. xoxox DIANNE
