Friends Without Faces

We sit and we type, and we stare at our screens,
We all have to wonder, what this possibly means.

With our mouse we roam, through the rooms in a maze,
Looking for something or someone, as we sit in a daze.

We chat with each other, we type all our woes,
Small groups we do form, and together we go.

We wait for somebody, to type out our name,
We want recognition, as a face we can't see.

We give kisses and hugs, and sometimes flirt,
At times we chat deeply, and reveal why we hurt.

We do form friendships - but - why we don't know,
But some of these friendships, will flourish and grow.

Why is it on screen, we can be so bold,
Telling our secrets, that have never been told.

Why is it we share, the thoughts in our mind,
With those we can't see, as though we were blind.

The answer is simple, it is as clear as a bell,
We all have our problems, and need someone to tell.

We can't tell "real" people, but tell someone we must,
So we turn to the computer, and to those we can trust.

Even though it is crazy, the truth still remains,
They are Friends Without Faces, with odd little names.

Grateful we are, that we have these friends,
for the days and nights have no end.

  7. CPGEM: I have met the kindest and most caring people through this blog. Those that I've met in person or over the phone have all been wonderful. It's true I'm a little bolder here, sometimes surprising myself...but I think that's because I feel safe. You don't have to see someone's face to get a sense of who they are...you only have to take the time to feel what they write. The essence of everyone is there...in their words.

I did not write the poem in todays blog, I found it on the internet while surfing, however I did tweak it a bit :O)

  16. Carol so glad you shared with us!

It is so true the friends without faces. I have shared with all of you about many things that have passed fleetingly through my head or have been nagging at me and I just had to vent.

It really is a comfort and strangely a miracle this thing called the internet. We can feel so isolated and yet this amazing thing brings people together and is in many ways a leap of faith when we decide to respond and participate in the discussions!

So that said thank you oh great internet for the amazing wonderful faceless friends I have met!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Carol, that poem was fantastic... right on the money!

Good morning Zona, MEK, IBB, and Lynn D!

Thanks so much for all the owls who sent along a "best wishes" for the wedding (Sandie... thanks!), which, Judy, is this coming Saturday.

Huz kept a (very) short leash on me when it came to permission to invite bloggers, so just one is coming... Seaside Lady!! I'm very excited about that!

Karen, can't wait to hear how your cruise goes with YH!

OK, back to spinning up astronauts on our centrifuge...

TTFN... and Tink, thanks for your gracious reply to my MySpace note... I'll be thinking about both your Mom and Joan today.

  18. Good Morning Hooters!
congrat on 1st Zona- and thanks for that chicken soup recipe- I'm going to try it!

MEK- I am not a duck, I am and owl. Oh wait, you meant duck as in ....lol

I am here until about 2 today. Then leaving work and heading out. Mr. Goldie will have the truck packed when I get there and off we go.

Thanks for wishing me off - we will travel safe and have fun I am sure. With all the phone calls back and forth these last few days I am sure I will have more peace when I actually get there.

I love my owl friends and it is surprising to me in many ways. I never thought you could feel a connection to people you don't physically know. Jodi is really the only one I "know" but I feel really close to many. Of course there is the security of hiding behind the printed word and faceless name (so to speak) that allows us to open up in a way that we may not do face to face.

    Have a pleasant day everyone.

    Shirley, shirley, shirley ......

Want2- if you are lurking- I will wave when we drive by- remember I will be the blonde with my head out of the sunroof in the green toyota 4-runner!!

  19. Good morning! Congrats on first, Zona!

    Hi MEK, IBB and LynnD!

Carol, I loved the poem--so very true. Thanks again for creating this nest we all call home.

Whabbear, if you could only invite one blog buddy Seasidelady is the perfect one! She's the sweetest, kindest blog buddy in the world!!! Again, best wishes to the handsome grooms and we can't wait to see the pictures.

Tinka, thinking of you today--I know it's a tough one. Can you feel us hugging you?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hey Goldie!! Have a wonderful time at the wedding! We want to see those pictures, too!

  23. I'd like to ask for prayers for my Father. He has been in the hospital in Va for 2 weeks now. He apparently had a stroke and is having confusion problems. The Drs don't know if it is permanent or not. He is anxious to get home, but the Drs don't feel that he is ready, which scares the crap out of me.

  24. Shoot! Forgot the Shoo Fly Pie recipe. I thought about it while I was getting ready for work and was going to bring it in with me this morning and well...just plain forgot! Tell ya what I'll do -- I'll put it in my MS blog, hopefully tonight.

GM Zona, MEK, IBB, LynnD, Carol, Sandie,

Whabby, SSL was a great choice and I trust there will be TONS of pictures!

    Goldie, enjoy your trip!

Tinka, more hugs coming your way today.

    Have a wonderful day all!

Ours will be a busy one between work and lunch time errands to drop off my son's cable box (since he lives in TX now) and picking up my wedding band and engagement ring left at the jeweler's the other day for maintenance and appraisal...my fingers feel nekkid!

Tomorrow brings a lunch time snorkel class and afternoon meeting with the tree guy who will get rid of the branches that are touching my neighbor's house. The neighbor, understandably, is a bit "touchy" about the situation.

    Friday, a card-making class with my BFF's ... yaaaaayyyyy!

PS...my WW weigh-in showed another 2lb loss and YH lost 2.4 pounds! That's 7,000 more calories I can consume on the cruise without having to buy new clothes, LOL!

  25. Good Morning...early for me, I know. GOLDIE; I just wanted to do a quick fly-by to let you know that I hope you have a wonderful time at your son's wedding. I think the pole dancing will be a great effect for the mom to do to loosen up the party!! Can't wait to see those pictures. Will you be wearing your "wedding tassels"?

TINK; You're still being sent tons of hugs and good thoughts today and every day.

SHIRLEY: I miss your comments so much and I can't tell you the last time I had one of your gingerbread pancakes...isn't it the season now? Hope you are finding some light and will be back when you feel okay. Sending hugs to you.

OK..I will be back later. My two granddaughters and daughter and I are going up in the mountains to Georgetown for a train ride and lunch for a late birthday celebration for the 8 year old. We are a little late with my pneumonia and Tammy's scare this summer and it will be the next girls birthday next week...so have to get on the move!

BTW, loved all the recipes yesterday.

    Hugs to you all...

  32. Good morning!
This is breast cancer awareness month. Statistics are that 1 out of 8 women will get breast cancer even if it doesn't run in your family. With early detection the survival rate is 80%. I have 2 Aunts who have survived breast cancer however on Mother's Day my friend Terry's Mom lost her battle with breast cancer. With that in mind if you are due for a mamogram then make an appointment today.

CAROL - Great blog!! I feel so blessed to have found such a great group of people. I wouldn't have shared such a personal blog with everyone if I didn't trust you. I felt that if you really wanted to know me, then I had to share about my brother and my family!!

GOLDIE - Isn't it great that I didn't turn out to be that serial killer?!!? lol!! Once again, enjoy the wedding....squeeze the grandkids for me, and we expect a power point presentation next week!!! :D

ZONA - Thanks for the chicken soup recipe!!! Can't wait to try it. :D I'll go for that stroll, but are you ready?!!?

  38. Happy Wednesday Owls.

Carol, That is a perfect poem for the nesters. Perhaps it is easier to disclose information to anonymous people because we feel it is unlikely that we will meet them and bring them into our world of 'real' friends, which means that they won't reveal our secrets. However, I still feel that those that I have been lucky enough to meet will still keep any confidence I may have imparted.

Carol, You are such a warm and caring person and you created this safe environment for all of us to come to every day. We all know you truly care and the words you write are not just empty sentiments. Thanks you so much for all your efforts.

  41. Zona, Congrats on #1. Thanks for posting the chicken soup recipe. I hardly cook, but in the winter I will cook stew and soup, so I can't wait to try it.

MEK, #2 today and I'm glad you don't have to duck.

IBB, Good to see you back. You were missed.

LynnD, Love your new 'little' sign.

Bear, Yay that SSL is going to represent the bloggers at your wedding. The rest of us will be there in spirit, although I think Dianne is planning on crashing. :) Happiness to you and Huz.

Goldie, Safe travels and have fun pole dancing. I hope the red tassels are fancy enough for wedding fare.

    Tinka, (((HUGS))) to you.

Scirish, I will keep you Father and family in my prayers. It is so hard to watch our parents health decline as they age.

Outatuune, put up pics of the cards on MS.

Dianne, Have fun in the mountains with the 'girls.'

Bebbi, Congrats on keeping up the walking.

    Jodi, 50, woo hoo!

    Sandie, Hi

Waving a wing at all the Owls who land later. Have a great day everyone.

  42. Whabby- Goldie pole dancing with tassels may just send poor son over the edge. He still hasn't recovered from the Whore Box dancing and that was 6 years ago!!

Bye everyone- I am taking off now. I'll be checking in when I have down time in the hotel room. Although there is something about hotel rooms that Mr. Goldie seems to like ;) --- so don't know how much 'down' time I will have! tmi??? lol

Be good to each and take care.

  43. Happy October/Wednesday everyone. I am making another quick fly-by. I can't believe how busy I have been, even at home. Yesterday after I wrote my post I did all my housework, ironed, and prepared 4 pr of new slacks to hem up today . The price us shorties have to pay! By the time I made homemade pizza I was pooped and just zoned out on tv!

  46. Happy October, Owls!

I have been away from the nest for about a week, as life got a bit crazy. I slipped back in late last night, but just thought I would say hello again! And hope everyone is happy and healthy!

Carol...love the poem. Great choice and wonderful words for this amazing place! I am always aware of how important this blog and my blog friends are to me but I know it even more when I am not here. I wonder what everyone is doing, how they all are and what is happening on the blog. And even though I am an irregular (TMI????) blogger, I come here when I can and I love how at home I feel when I am here surrounded by my amazing Owl friends!!!!!

Tink...hope you are okay! Thinking about you and sending tons of love and good thoughts on this sad day!
