I might be listening???

When I speak with someone, I choose to have eye contact, as I feel, when I do, the meaning of the conversation is much more than listening, we are communicating.

There is a slight problem with that at times......

The "face mole" yep, that dreaded mole on someones face that you cannot ignore, now when its just a small mole and flushed to the face I can surely ignore. However when it is one of those big ones that stick out, it is nearly impossible for me, and what makes it worst, is when there are several.

They can be so big at times, that they take a life of their own and as the person is speaking the mole moves with each facial expression, so it has now become alive, and I am now speaking to a mole on someones face.

All my thoughts are towards the mole, I might be speaking, or even trying to listen, but the mole is what is most important, as it is staring at me trying to get in the conversation, and hence, I allow it to wiggle its way in, I totally succumb to the dreaded face mole. And if there is more than one, we now have a angry crowd and I begin to coward away.

My eye contact with the person is no longer, the communication is gone. I hear this persons voice echoing in my brain, and I see lips moving, but for me the mole is:

Screaming....Yelling.....Shouting....Howling...

"HA, I got your attention"

and it surely did......

  2. Carol...hilarious blog. Moles screaming and yelling for attention...it's true. Spinach in the teeth or pizza cheese hanging from the chin tend to yell too!

  4. Morning Glories!

Vig got first! wahoo welcome back viggy!

Carol what have you been drinking? LOL

When faced with a situation like this I use an old trick I learned in Speech and Drama classes. Focus inbetween the eyes on the forehead. People think you are making eye contact and you get the relief you need to avoid the dreaded mole, booger, zit what have you.

Tho I have been known to flat out tell people if they have a booger or spinch in their teeth. Well unless they have been less than kind to me. LMAO

Hope everyone is planning a great day!

  7. Hello, VIG, MEK, and Carol!

LOL@ the mole on the face blog! Carol, I assume you HAVE seen the Austin Powers installment where Fred Savage has a huge mole on his face, and Austin can't wrest his attention away from it?

Hey, Judy and all the rest of you kind owls, thanks AGAIN for all your good wishes back in A51. Goldie and I just e-mailed that we'll be toasting each other at the respective weddings.

I'll be raising another private toast to all of you!

  15. Good Morning,

Funny blog Carol, it made me laugh, like Mek, said the shirt stain commercial, thats the first thing I thought of.

Things are calming down here. THANK YOU all for your kind words and support for my family. I am holding my head up high when I go outside, I refuse to be kept prisoner in my own home and neighborhood, I loved this house and neighborhood when we bought this house, and I still do LOVE my house, and a few neighbors, lol,

Anthony is home with me and its been nice to talk to him, just him. He is going to therapy Monday, because noone would see him with Chicken Pox. But like Maureen said he needs to be home with me and let him just relax with no anxiety and pressure. I also enrolled him in an Anger Management Course/Class, but it does not start until Jan. 2009 and its for 8 weeks. Hes looking forward to it, I also have to attend the parent class for 8 weeks. I'm sure this will help me and my husband too.

Jodi, What is a Glazer donut?? Are they similar to a Crispy Cream??

Whabbear, Congrats on your upcoming nuptuials.

    Tink, (((((HUGS)))))

Thank you again for all your support you are the greatest group of owls/owlettes.

  19. Hi Again, I just found out that Michelle Obama is 1 mile from my house at Chippewa Valley High School, where my son God Willing will be going there next year. Then Barack Obama is in Lansing, at Michigan State University, people were waiting for hours to see him in the cold weather. Just thought I would share the excitement!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Carol that is so funny. My sister told me that I have a habit of staring at instead of looking at a person and that my facial expressions are a dead give away as to what I am thinking.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Ummm, Carol. I have a big mole on my face.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just kidding!

    Congrats on first, VIG!

Have a great day, everyone! The weather is simply beautiful here.

  23. Happy Thursday Owls.

Carol, Great blog. It is so disconcerting when you can't concentrate on what a person is saying because of something that is so distracting. But is is also amusing too.

Bear, I offer you my Hubby's favorite toast:
Friends may come and friends may go, and friends may peter out you know, but we'll be friends through thick and thin...peter out or peter in! Happy day.

VIG, congrats on #1. Good to see you back.

LynnD, thanks for posting that bulletin on ms. It was a long read, but very interesting.

MEK, congrats to you for getting sex...I mean six.

Tinka, (((HUGS))) to you and I hope you are finding some peace,

Zona, have you gone to the P.O. yet?

Hello to all the other Owls. I am off to run errands. BBL

  24. Hey All!

    Congrats on first Vig!

Funny Blog Carol, it reminded me of Austin Powers too..lol

Did you all hear? Rosie O'Donnell will host a live from New York Variety show..and it starts the day before Thanksgiving..which just happens to be my birthday too. HOW EXCITING!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Renee: I am so glad to hear things are settling down a bit. My son used to get really angry and I told him to run around the house. He ran and ran and ran, then he joined cross country and track in high school too. It helped the anger issues.

  26. Owls,

I have a lot of anxiety today and I don't know why.

I can't think of anything specific, just all kinds of little things.

I don't like having all this butterflies in my tummy when it is not Christmas morning! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't have any mole on my face, but I think sometimes people can see the anxiety on my face.

    ReplyDelete
  28. iteach: I have a lot of anxiety too but it is because I am having a yard sale tomorrow morning and I have a lot to do. Like put up signs and stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Flying through kids,

Heading out to watch the debates with a friend. I know many of you will be watching too.

Sacbarb: Yes it was a long article but...Wow! Glad you enjoyed it.

  30. My butterflies are feeling a little better!!

I was just rewarded a $150 grant to spend in my classroom!

I have to use it toward my insect, pumpkin, and apple theme lessons.

    I am so freaking excited!

The grant was from the Illinois Agriculture Department and it was the first grant I have ever applied for!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Bebbi, I absolutely love yard sales, I wish I was helping you.

    ReplyDelete
  32. VIG Congrats on leaping into first place today!

iteach Congrats on getting that grant! That's great!

Carol Fun blog today. Earlier this year when I was visiting my mom, I went with her to pick up her prescription and the woman at the pharmacy had a very heavy, dark mustache. I'm not talking about dark peach fuzz, I mean a real bonafide mustache. My mother finds it hard to ignore, and I totally agreed with her. I don't know why the woman doesn't do something about it. I mean, you can see it from the opposite side of the store!

SacBarb That's a great toast! LOL

I want to wish you both the most happiest of days on Saturday, October 4th, 2008.

I am sure this date will remain with the both of you for many years to come, just as my Wedding Anniversary remains with me.

It was an honor to meet the both of you, such Handsome, Caring & Loving men.

I am so happy that you and Huz can FINALLY legalize the union that you two made years ago.

This is a personal issue with me, as you, Bear, know.

You couldn't have picked a more worthy person to represent the people in both Blog's than Seaside Lady.

I am so looking forward to some pictures sent to my email, since I am the only hold out to MySpace!

With Love, Happiness, and Joy to You and Huz Forever,

    Sandie:
Don't think I did not think about one having a mole as I wrote todays blog, it just yesterday, I had such an encounter with a woman who was full of moles on her face, that I just could not get it out of my mind...

  39. Renee Eve:
Glad you had some one on one with Anthony, perhaps at times that is what is needed. You are a great Mom!

  40. Vig:

    ReplyDelete
  47. When I see Joe Biden, I see Joe Biden...

  48. My blog the other day on Sandra Bernhard and her nasty words. Well it seems she got what was coming...

BOSTON (AP) — A women's shelter on Wednesday cut headliner Sandra Bernhard from its annual benefit after she said Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin would be gang-raped if she ever visited New York.

Bernhard's made the remarks last month during her one-woman show in Washington before Palin visited New York to campaign. Bernhard said Palin would be "gang-raped by my big black brothers" during a diatribe in which she also criticized Palin for opposing abortion rights.

Many guests at Rosie's Place, a Boston shelter, have been victims of violence, public relations director Leemarie Mosca said.

"In light of our mission, we don't think violence against women is a laughing matter," she said.

Mosca said the shelter expected to book a replacement before the Oct. 16 luncheon "Funny Women ... Serious Business."

"Right now, our main focus is our event and making sure the event is a success," Mosca said. "And for us, that means not including Sandra Bernhard at this time."

    ReplyDelete
  49. I was watching the debates, but I got bored, sorry.

BUT I tried on my Halloween costume, for Victors Party at school, I'm going as a Gothic Vampiress, Victor is a Vampire, LOL, my kids thought it was so funny to see me in a costume, They have never seen me in one, I always felt so unsure of myself. But I had to this year and I think I'm going to enjoy it. I love the Dress Its a black can can slip, with a long black and shimmery/erodescent blood red front. Then I ordered the Black Wig to go with it, its really cool, I put it on today, my kids were laughing, we were having a lot of fun. We so need this. I think I'm gonna even wear it trick or treating with Victor, LOL, No one will know who I am with my hair. Hey maybe I can get an extra bag of candy??? HUH

Carol, yes he needed one on one time, but hes feeling better, but the doctor said he can't go back until Monday, so tomorrow hes gonna clean with me. HAHAHA

    ReplyDelete
  50. Well, I was the opposite of Renee.

I just watched the debates and my neck and face are bright red.

It was very very intense for me.

My husband doesn't have a job, I do have children with special needs ( I have never shared that),and I'm watching education struggle.

I don't think I breathed the whole time.

I'm so glad it wasn't me up there, I would need a drink in one hand.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just got back to the hotel after a very long day...and I can't find Grey's anywhere!!!! Does anyone know if it's on tonight?

    ReplyDelete
  52. Carol, I wanted to tease you and send you a photoshop picture of my face with moles all over it but I don't know how to do that. LOL

Renee, you must take pictures of you in your costume and show us!

VIG, Grey's isn't on tonight because of the debate.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hey, VIG, go look to see if they folded your tolied paper into a triangle! :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I'm so glad that the debate isn't on tomorrow night.

    GW is on tomorrow night!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Okay, at the risk of you guys thinking I'm strange and nuts, I'm asking:

Does it bother anyone else that Sarah Palin drops the "g" from words (I'm thinkin' ...) and says things like "I can't wait ta serve with ya!"

I think it's fine that she speaks that way in everyday life but I just don't like it when she's addressing the nation. And what about meeting with foreign diplomats? "I've been wantin' ta meet ya!"

    Okay, I'm ducking . . .

    ReplyDelete
  56. Renee Eve:
I love that you dress up for Halloween, you must take pics, Fun!

    Iteach:
Yes, very intense, I think they both did very well, I enjoyed it more and understood it more, than the Pres debate. And, no you have never shared that before, I am glad you did tonite. Children are very resilient, they learn and grow, and will most likely surprise you on the things they can do.. Many Smiles to you, for a good parent you are, and your children are beautiful...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Sandie:
No, no reason to duck, her accent and wording gives me a chuckle as well, I think that is why I see Tina Fey :O)

    ReplyDelete
  58. For the record-

    Yes,

the election is intense for me.

    Yes,

I'm a hot Italian mama who sometimes forgets to think before talking.

    Yes,

I feel passionate about the canadate (sp) that I like.

    However,

I really really don't want to lose any friendships over it.

I think this election is taking a toll on so many people right now. It is everywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Sandie:
I wish you knew how, that would have been so funny....

    BTW
I would not know how to do it either, that is where Joey would come in...

    ReplyDelete
  60. It is hard for me to talk about my children's "labels", but some day I will.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Iteach:
I would never loss a friendship over the election, if you are my friend, whoever you vote for, it ok with me.
Friendships if they are true, will supersede any voting preferences.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Iteach:
When you ready, we will be here, it seems we always keep the light on..

    ReplyDelete
  63. iteach, i can't imagine losing any friends in the nest over politics. I think we all agree to disagree! And, just like Sarah Palin and Joe Biden shook hands and spoke kindly to each other after the debate, so do we owls, as we are friends.

So, vent if you need to!

    ReplyDelete
  64. I really did like how they talked to each other's families after the election.

    That was nice.

    ReplyDelete
  65. iteach, my child has a label, too, if you ever want to talk.

    ReplyDelete
  66. iteach:
That is how it should be, they both did the right thing, they were very respectful of each other. Kudos to them both...

    ReplyDelete
  67. iteach...I did what I was told and it is in a hectagonal shape. Yes, I stay in the classy fleabag hotels!

And as one of the teachers I work with told one of my students..."a label is just a word - you know who you are". And you, my teacher friend, know your kids the best and who they are. Amazing and wonderful like their Mom.

Sandie...thanks for the info. I am counting the days until Mer and Der return!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  68. LynnD:
I just read your comment, I tried focusing in her eye, however she had a mole growing on the lid of her eye... I was doomed...

    ReplyDelete
  69. Vig:
Well not about the cheap hotel :O)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Thank you VIG. :)

    I'm feeling better.

In fact I'm off to bed. Good night everyone, sweet dreams.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Sandie, It bothers me too about her casual conversational language, but what bothers me more is I don't think I can take another 4 or 8 years of NUC-U-LER. The word is NUC-LEE-ER (phonetically). arrrgggg

I was riveted to the TV during the debates. I found them much more interesting than the Presidential one.

    Carol, KARMA for Sandra Bernhard.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Sacbarb:

I have a daughter, who is married and due to have her baby next April, 2 adopted dogs, 3 hand me down amazon parrots, and a mentally challanged cat I adopted from the veterinary hospital. Just_lin, aka Linda, and I have been friends for about 20 years. I am totally into this election and drive just_lin crazy. PS I agree with sacbarb regarding NUCULUR. If one cannot pronounce it they probably shouldn't have their finger near the button. I hope I didn't offend anyone with my last remark. I wish everyone love and good health
