Dingleberry?

by Iteach

Have you ever used a word and then come to find out you were using the word wrong?

Some where down the road, I heard the word dingleberry being used in a sentence. I just assumed it meant that someone was being goofy. So that is how I always used that word.

So-so stop being a dingleberry!

You are such a dingleberry!

No one said anything to me when I called them one, until my principal did.

One day we were in the office and he was being goofy.

So I said, "Mr. Ackman you are such a dingleberry".

He looked at me and said "Gross, no I'm not".

Then I said, "There is nothing gross about being a dingleberry, your just being goofy".

That is when he told me the real meaning of a dingleberry. I so freaked out. I had no idea it meant that piece of poop that hangs from your bottom.

My mouth hit the floor and my face turned red. I stood there and thought of all the times I called someone that name!

Yikes!

Have you ever used a word wrong?

  1. Morning Glories!

    Welcome Lani!

Iteach I use dingleberry all the time. LMAO It wasn't until about a year ago that I too learned what the real meaning was!

Doesn't matter there are just so many dingleberries out there that it usually fits the occasion!

Watched the debates and had to laugh at Sacbarbs post yesterday. I also go a little crazy with her choice of talk/slang.

My friend and I kept a tally last nite. We were making hash marks for every question she did not answer or evaded. After about 10 marks we decided it was easier to count the questions she did answer, with an answer that pertained to the question.

The final count was 2. Her answer about gay marriage and her answer about how she thinks the VP is under the legislative branch. Which made me shudder and sent my husband around the bend! He kept shouting read the Constitution! Thank goodness Joe answered that question for him. I thought he was going to stroke out!

Hope you all have a good day!

  2. Good Morning Everyone!

ITEACH: What a fun blog!! I've done the same thing you have...used a word innocently until someone points out it has more than one meaning. Thank goodness TINA showed me the Urban Dictionary...now I can look up words I'm not sure of!!

I can't think of any examples right now...but will try again after I've had some sleep.

Mr. Z is trying to learn Spanish..and the guys he works with are 'helping' him. They love telling him a word means one thing..and then they laugh their butts off when he says it..and it means something else entirely. He's starting to catch on though!!

    Great blog ITEACH!!

  3. LYNND: Congrats on FIRST!!

Ok..I'm really gonna try and get some sleep this time. I hope everyone has a good day.

    G'night!! ;)

  4. Good morning HOoters!!!

LYNN D - Congrats on first!!!

ITEACH - Great blog, but I'm still wiped out from a very long day yesterday. Work, Smorgasbord, kid's homework, and laundry. After I got home from helping serve at our church's Smorgasbord I was starving (I really didn't have time to eat much for lunch). One of the perks of working is that you get a free meal. Samantha and I decided to take ours "to go". Got thru the mashed potatoes and gravy, acorn squash, german potato salad, about 1/4 of the turkey they sent home, and a 1/2 slice of pumpkin pie. Well, as you might have guessed I fell asleep like a log waiting for the debate to start. CRAP!!! Thankfully they replayed it again when I woke up from my 4 hour nap!!

LANI - Welcome!!! Any friend of JUST LIN'S is ok in my book. :D I'll friend request you on myspace!!

Just put a spice cake in the oven for a co-worker's last day at our store.

I'll be back later with any words that I misuse! The only ones that I can think of right now, although I don't misuse them, are about and couch!!! According to TINA they come out sounding like abuut and cooch!!

Yes Carol I think the word you could use is passionate....some might say obsessed! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  13. ITEACH - Thanks for the education today. I didn't realize the true meaning of that word. I always referred to my boys' "package" as their dingleberries....boy was I wrong!!! lol!!

I can't believe I turned the heat on in my bedroom last night! Let me rephrase that! I tuned up the thermostat...ahem, you know what I mean lol!!
It was cold last night! Possible frost tonight eek!
I just made myself a decadent cup of hot choc with whipped cream and caramel sprinkles!
    Now to the treadmill.....

  16. LynnD Good morning and congrats on #1!

iteach Funny blog today! Thank you. :)

I don't think the word dingleberry is confined to just poop, but can be anything hanging around the genital area that shouldn't be there.....like a little piece of toilet paper stuck on a hair. Eeeewww!!!!

This reminds me of when I used to have doberman that would love to pop balloons at my kids' birthday parties. Once day she was running around frantic because a deflated balloon was halfway hanging out of her butt and she was in a panic thinking something was chasing her! I had to remove it for her. LOL

  17. Hi All!

    Congrats on first Lynn D!!

    Carol:

    din·gle·ber·ry (dnggl-br)
    n. Vulgar Slang
    1. A piece of dried feces caught in the hair around the anus.
    2. An incompetent, foolish, or stupid person.

I think you were using it for meaning #2 which is more common.

I have only heard it to mean a stupid or foolish acting person too. I think some uses of words are regional. My boss always thought that "Hoosier" meant a big dummy, he didn't know that was what people from Indiana were called..LOL. He is from Kentucky!

What a fun blog! I love words. I have the word of the day. My favorite lately is quidnunc, that is what someone I work with is! hehe.

  19. Happy Friday Owls.

Iteach, LMAO at your blog today. My parents always spoke Italian when they didn't want us to know what they were saying so when I was about 10 I picked up a phrase that I used once when we had a house full of Italian relatives. You could have heard a pin drop when I said it. My mother pulled me into another room and told me NEVER to say it again. I found out years later that I said 'kiss my ass.'

As an adult, I am sure I have probably used a word inappropriately, but I can't think of one now. I'll search memory banks and maybe I will come up with something.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Lani, A BIG Owl welcome to you. I'm glad to have someone else here who shares one of my pet peeves. We have already endured 8 years of NUC-U-LUR. If McCain is elected, please someone coach Palin on how to say that word. Would love to have you as a ms friend, too.

    Zona, are you up yet?

    LynnD, Congrats on #1.

    Tinka, thinking of you.

  21. Sacbarb. My Dad was a preacher. I never learned naughty Spanish words. I used to think "besa mi cola" meant hug or kiss my coke lol!

  24. LynnD, congrats on first. Glad to see someone else shares my irritation of Sarah Palin's lack of diction! I mean, she's a VP candidate, come on!!

iteach, thanks for the fun blog! I grew up knowing what dingleberry meant because my mom used to use it when referring to our toy poodle when she would get a little poo stuck on her butt. As in, "One of you girls (my sister or me) needs to clean the dingleberry off Tina's butt." (Sorry, Tina, but that was our little poodle's name!) LOL

    Welcome Lani!

Goldie, I know you'll have a wonderful time at the wedding! I'm sure you look stunning in your little black dress! I used to have one of those--until it got too little...

Bad news...yes, it is true MEK...John Elway is engaged to a previous RAIDER cheerleader!!! It's bad enough he is cheating on me but with a Raider cheerleader..that is just not right!! SACBARB-causing-trouble-in-Calif: Why did you tell BEAR that I might be crashing the wedding? I thought you could keep a secret!!

This is kind of a funny story---I sent Seaside Lady a "special shirt" that she asked me for after a little coaching (I promise). She should be receiving it today and now she will have something special to wear to BEAR'S wedding. I sent it before I even knew she was attending!

LYNND: I dropped by your place for another debate party last night and once again...nobody home! I was going to do a shot for the word energy...I would still be in bed!

SHIRLEY: It is nice to see you. I have missed you. Is your weather better now?

Fun blog today, ITEACH. I didn't really know what that word meant either but luckily, I haven't used it (but now I might).

Had a great day in the mtns the other day riding a train with the gkids and daughter. The weather was so nice. I wish the train ride was longer as it was only for 1-1/2 hour long.

    ReplyDelete
  62. ITEACH: Phillip would have loved this train. We sat in an outside car. I know if my girls loved it he would too but they didn't want an engineer hat!! We looked around the gift shop and they both picked bracelets that had nothing to do with trains!

    ReplyDelete
  63. SHIRLEY: You started this party and then I couldn't find you. I don't like to toast alone! Tell us about the cakes you have baked.

    ReplyDelete
  64. ITEACH - Here is the link to that Railway Museum in North Freedom: http://www.midcontinent.org/
It's kind of a fun site. They even have links to sounds of the trains!!! And there is another one of a music video that features the trains there.

  93. Hello everyone. I will try for 0 typing errors today. J/L pointed out to me that I appearently wok at a Chinese cooking hospital. Correction - I WORK at the hospital, not WOK! If I don't have my eyes checked soon there will be many more errors. I can think of 2 phrase blunders. My mother used them. I am positive not understanding them either. "Numb nut", I learned does not mean that one is not thinking. I learned this when I called my supervisor numb nut. Fortunately we were friends. "Mighty wide of you" as in mighty big of you. I found out the phrase is "mighty white of you". The Dean of Black Studies pointed this out to me as I had just said this of him. There to luckily we were friends. Right after that he crumpled a piece of white paper and said he was throwing away white trash.

I remember when I was 18 and I thought it was so beneath me to look on a clearance rack.

  101. J/L~~You just reminded me of another 'idea-share' topic that might be fun: Favorite Gadgets/Tools (besides BOB!) Example: at the moment, I'm hooked on my Magic Bullet for making smoothies/shakes, etc.

Watching Ted Nugent on Glenn Beck...a funny, welcome break from all the gloom 'n doom rehash!

    ReplyDelete
  102. BonO You have a Magic Bullet? You really like it? I was thinking I should get one. I hope Ted isn't going to shoot anything.

    ReplyDelete
  103. iteach...great blog! I never knew before what a dingleberry was. In fact, I think the icecream place near my hometown is called Dingleberrry's! Wondering now if the chocolate icecream really was chocolate........ewwwwww! Won't be eating there ever again...no way, no how!!!!!!!

Bono...hi, friend! Been thinking about you all week and am sending good thoughts out to you and your whole family!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thanks, VIG! And welcome home to you!

Yes, 'Lin, I LUV my Bullet. Don't know why I waited so long to get one. Well, yes, I do...I have mixers, blenders, Cuisinarts, Oster hand-helds cluttering cabinets. The Bullet is so quick and easy and takes up NO space. and Yes, as a matter of fact Ted IS talkin' about shooting stuff. He cracks me up, but he does come through with a nugget of wisdom now and then!

    ReplyDelete
  105. BonO I only have one hand held mixer. My blender broke long ago and I never replaced it. Can't say I really miss it but I've been fascinated with the Magic Bullet. Maybe I'll put it on my Xmas list. Then I can get smoothie recipes from you. :)
