The Middle, Gets Me~

believe it or not i'm actually discovering America
I took this picture and his caption from his myspace page

Ah, turning 26, I looked at him yesterday, and just could not believe it. My middle one, the one that is my godchild, he turned 26.

I remember when he was born, it was struggle for my SIL as the cord was not positioned right, but all went well. When my first was born he was a absolute beauty, perfect in every way, I was so excited as I was nineteen and could not wait to be a aunt. Then three years later, the middle one, not so cute, I remember saying to my SIL at the hospital, "Is he going to stay this way" of course she said "no" and appeased my question, as I was so nervous, my first ever godchild, I felt it such a honor, my nerves got the best of me. We laugh at it today, its a running joke, and of course I look at him now, and see all the beauty in the world, such a handsome young man, he is, and filled with the brightest of yellow.

He is the jokester of the family, he just has a way with words, his wit is so quick, at times I am stunned. When there is trouble among us, its he who I call, he who can take a situation and reason it out, so very calm he can be, so logical. When my anger arises towards my brother, it is he who tells me to "let it go" as its not worth harboring anger. He who should be angry as well, however is not. His sensibility is beyond his years.

New Years Eve, dad has no idea that a boogyeyed jokester has bobbling eyes

He the middle, the first and the third, are tied together with a bond. They look out for each other, they are a team, it is quite amazing to watch them together. This bond will take them far, and I truly believe it is a bond not to be broken.

When my parents were married 50yrs we had a grand party, and so many of my family stepped in to help, as I am alone, my brother lives for himself, so I had to do it, a party for 100 family and friends, not a easy task. It was he my middle one, that carried me thru, caught me when I stumbled, brought me higher than I ever thought I could be.

I had written a program for the event, and acknowledged all that helped, and to my middle one, I said "To Vincent: My night and shining armor, I thank You" I meant every world and still do.

He is the one I turn to, He is the one that gets me, He is the one that accepts me for all my faults, He is in the middle of my heart, the eldest to the right and youngest to left. And so my heart is filled, Love, and with every beat, the Love grows.

When Aunt Jo passed my father was by her coffin, one of the last to see her, as he stood there alone, I turned to my middle one and simply said "Vin" our eyes met and I pointed to my father, he walked over to my father put his hand on my fathers back, stood there a minute with him and then gently directed my father out of the room, still with his hand on his back, and walked him out to the awaiting limo. He never faltered. If in life you get lucky enough to look into someone eyes, and just know what one is thinking. You have made it, You have felt it, We have felt it. So very strong.

Proud I am of all three. Life with them is like following the yellow brick road, you just never know what your going to find along the journey. And I am so up to following the yellow brick road for as far as they can go.

They complete me~~ Life ~~

  6. Good Morning, ibb and Congratulations on 1st this fine Monday morning.

    Good Morning, Zona

Carol, what a beautiful tribute to Vincent and the love that fills your heart is so touching. I'm sure that your three nephews, coming from your big and loving family, represent all the right values that were shared and taught through the years.

The love you share with your special God Child, Vincent, is one that can't be destroyed by time, but only grow deeper as time passes.

Thank you, Carol, for sharing your special young man with us, and also your loving heart.

To you, Vincent, the middle one, I wish you a very Happy Birthday.

Carol, what a wonderful loving tribute. Made my eyes well up a bit.
My nephew who is 17 and also my godchild. He is without a doubt my "Vincent". I look at that kid and am amazed at his maturity, wit, smarts, compassion and willingness to help all. Maybe it is the Eagle Scout in him, but I have to say he is a prize and I am so very proud of him.
I love all my nephews and my niece, but his one has a special place in my heart and is my 'shining star'.

I will attempt to come up with a blog for you Carol.

  21. Good Morning Ibebold - Congrats on First.

Good Morning Zona-my-baby, Ronnie, Carol, Lynn, Goldie, and Mek.

I will read Carol's blog and comments and be back soon.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh my God, I started something yesterday with my silly begging someone to post first for me. Please, please I was making a joke about trying to get a sympathy vote. LOL
Ibebold, you got first, Zona, you got second. Carol got tenth and Tinkatia got 25th, (which is a good one to get I think).

Ibebold - I have also noticed how the West coasted often get first. We must be early birds out here.

Carol - I am about to read your blog but I already know it will be good. I always love the stories about your family.

Zona - Thanks for giving me "second". You are such a dear daughter. I couldn't ask for better.
What was Nikki barking at? If you are up this morning, call me.

Mek - Take lots of pictures for us when you meet the little man.

Lynn - Are your hands still sore from clapping?

Ronnie, Goldie and VIG (where-ever you are) - Have a great day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Carol - That was your most beautiful blog ever. The love just shone from it. How lucky he is too to have such a wonderful Godmother. I bet he raves about you the same way. Thanks for letting us into your life.
That piece could easily be published, not on a blog but in a magazine.

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Early Birds not only get on the blog first but I think they are off and running soon after visiting the nest. By the time I get here, it's always empty. I think I noticed that yesterday. hmmmm!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good morning - Bebbi, I read your blog from yesterday and could relate to it. I had a bit of a rehearsal when my daughter went to Africa for a couple of months, then for six months a few years later. When she actually moved out I was lucky, because she just moved a few miles away. This brings me to Carol's blog. My sister lives in Norway and has one daughter, so we aren't geographically close. I guess I'd have to say my daughter is my Vincent. She has always been here for me. She has always been so perceptive and she is a good friend to everyone she knows. I enjoy hearing about your families and life stories.

So, is the new stage show "The Clarinet Monologues"?

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hi Tinkatia, I'm here. How are you?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Happy Monday Owls.

My kids are gone and I am alone once more. I have such mixed feelings. I'm sad that they are gone, but I also love my solitude.

Carol, I love the blogs you write about your family. This one is especially poignant. Your nephews sound like such nice young men, not to mention the fact that they are hunks, too. You are so lucky to have such a special relationship with Vincent. Thanks so much for sharing them with us.

    ReplyDelete
  28. IBB, congrats on #1. Good for you for saving the poor kitty.

Good morning also to Zona (and Nikki), Ronnie, LynnD, Goldie, MEK, Tinka, Lani (LOL @ clarinet monologues) and all who land later. I am of to a card class. BBL

  30. My only sister had three children so I have two nieces and one nephew. I love them all but the oldest is very special to me. She was born in June of my first year of teaching. It was the first baby of the family and I jumped into my Nash Metropolitan and couldn't get down the Malahat fast enough to see her. She was so sweet. My heart melted.

She grew to look exactly like my sister and we have always had a tight bond.
She is my Godchild and one of my best friends. She and I always talked a few times each day to my sister. Now we talk to each other. She is 49 now but she is the one who has helped me through my mom's passing and through getting
my mom's house ready for sale.

She and her sister did all the funeral arrangements and she worked for 4 days straight clearing out the house. The rest of the family helped but she did most of it. She is co-executive in my mom's will but she is definitely the leader. I don't know what I would do without her.

    ReplyDelete
  31. MEK: Hope you have a good day today!

    GOLDIE: {{hugs}}

TINKA: Nikki was barking cuz she's a nut! I opened the door to let her in and she ran so fast she skidded across the concrete and almost somersaulted into the house! She flipped over a trashcan and ended up in the water bowl! She's my dog all right!! ;)

SACBARB: You sure do know your hunks..don't you?? ;) Have fun makin' cards!!

    Good Morning LANI!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. HI Lani - I saw you peeking from behind that tree. You must have been hiding when I thought I was alone.

Good Morning SacBarb - I agree. Sometimes solitude is very nice.

I must finish my decorating. I will be back this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Zona - Besides seeing you, I am going to Arizona to meet Nikki. He sounds like my kind of dog.

  34. Hi everyone!
Carol, what a lovely blog. I for one never tire of reading anything you write. I don't always have time to answer especially this time of year, but I do read.

This last Sat. was our VFWs last steak dinner of the year. They hired me and Mr Mary to do Karaoke after the dinner. It was so much fun! We had a lot of great singers. We are pretty much booked up through New Years Eve. Of course we kept a date open for a Vegas trip in Dec. LOL!
My VFW Aux. Treas duties are taking a lot of my time too. I am off to deposit Saturdays money.

  35. Good morning/afternoon, Hooters.

IBB Congrats on flying in first today.

Zona Congrats on flying in second. I love your dog, Nikki. I also love that new avatar you have for Halloween.

Carol Great blog today! I, too, love hearing your family stories. Your nephews are such handsome Italian Stallions and we know how special they are because of how you love them so.

  36. Lynn- I couldn't get into myspace (again) to leave you a message. This was on CNN and it is a clip of your rally in WA yesterday. Thought you might enjoy. Hope it works.

  50. Hi All!

    Congrats on first IBB!

I loved your blog, Carol. Your family is so awesome. I have that close type of relationship with my daughter. It is important to have that. I wish I was closer with my nieces and nephews but we always lived so far away. Unfortunately, it is hard to develop relationships like that when they distance is so great. We have a picture of my hubby on the edge of a cliff looking off and he has one foot out in front and his elbow back, with hand on hip. He has on one of those hats that old men wear. We call it his "Mountain Man". It always makes me smile when I see it too. I love those inside things that family's have. They are important.

I hope everyone had a good day. I had a busy day of pulling up my pants. I think I need to go out and buy some ones that fit right.

Zona: Nikki sounds like my dogs!

Mek: Glad you are feeling better.

Iteach: How's your walking been? Did you enjoy your hike the other day?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bebbi Losing 31 lbs will do that to you. Better buy some new ones before you lose yours in public. LOL

  52. I spent part of my weekend reading my voter pamphlets. I sent in my absentee ballot today. Yipee!!

  56. I'm proud of myself because I really hate shopping.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I went in the store to buy one top that was on sale for $16.98 and ended up spending $240.00.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I really needed some new clothes, though.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Oh, that was satisfying, all the way around. :)

    ReplyDelete
  60. Well, hell, how tedious was that?

    ReplyDelete
  61. lani: It is hard when your really close to someone to see them go. I am glad you could relate to the same experiences.

Justlin: I hate shopping too. I would rather pull up my pants all day. But, I am going to have to go and just get at least a couple of things.

    Great march..talk, whatever.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Good evening feathered friends!

CAROL...i can hear the love in your voice when you talk about the hoodlums! I would venture to guess that if I ever heard them talk of you, I would hear that same love. I am glad you have those hunky hoodlums in your life...and you in theirs.

I NEVER tire of your family tales, stories, sagas or laughs...your family reminds me a lot of mine...except totally different ;)~

    IBB...congrats on first!

    TINKA...congrats on 2nd...by proxy!

LYNN...I liked your pics. Will there be a blog about it on your ms?

I have always had empty nest syndrome! Maybe that is why I am so drawn to this nest!

    ReplyDelete
  63. Justlynn, I love you! LOL! I went into Macy's last week to get a pair of slacks on sale and wound up buying leather boots, 3 tops, and never got the pants! Just trying to do my best for the economy! :+)

Carol, thanks for missing me. I think things will be calm around here for a few days. I just completed my 3 month VFW audit to mail in so I can take a breather!
My SIL and I are going to see Taylor Swift tomorrow night. She couldn't get anyone else to go with her, so...

IBB~ I forgot to congrat. you on being first! Yah!!

    ReplyDelete
  64. CAROL, This is such a nice tribute to your nephew. I hope he will get a copy of it. Happy Birthdy to Vincent. I feel that special close relationship with my daughter. We can almost answer each other sentences (weird sometimes). I know when she is involved in something, I have no worries.

JODI: I am glad to hear that you have your shirt on tonight. We are going to need to yelling loud at the TV..ESPN.

SACBARB: Welcome back from your trip. I am glad you enjoyed yourself and got some time away. It looks like your son and dil brought good luck to the Raiders yesterday! If any of you are interested, BONO posted a picture of herself in her orange clothes (as she doesn't like orange much) on 10/16 on my comments. I think she looks lovely in orange!! :)

I missed being on the blog last week. My granddaughter came over on Tuesday for the day and night and ended up staying until Friday late. We had a great time and I love to get one of them alone for some good conversation and special attention. It did kind of involve a change of plans for my week but it doesn't happen that often. The girls go back on track to school tomorrow.

TINA: Happy late Birthday to your dad. Hope his appointment went well today.

  108. Birdee can come here to trick or treat- my candy bowls are ALL ready.

I know exactly how much we have, so i will know how many kids come to the house....

it's like Disneyland here in my community - the lines of kids NEVER stops.....

    ReplyDelete
  109. Mary:
Sorry, I can't help you as I ate the same...lol

    ReplyDelete
  110. Mary - i'm SO happy that someone else is doing the same!!

I've just been eating tootsie rolls and leaving the BIG stuff..

didn't even put the tootsie rolls in the bowls - so they are "free game" before Halloween.

if it's in the counted bowls - it can't be touched!!!

    how anal is that??!!

  113. Hey, FFF - (somehow that seems nasty) - anyway..

Last year, we had 272 (if memory serves me right) - that was less than the year before - cuz we were the only house on our side of the street with the light on and I heard MANY a kid say - I'm not walking ALL the way over there for one house!!!

we were like - YES, stay over there!!!!

we sit on our front porch, so that the doorbell doesn't bother the dogs every two seconds...

    ReplyDelete
  114. Good night owls! Don't eat too much candy. Wouldn't want anyone to get a tummy ache.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Mr Mary & I have to do Karaoke at the American Legion on Halloween night. They love to dress up there. We play some of the songs I have on "myspace", like "The Werewolf of London" and "Little Red Riding Hood".

    ReplyDelete
  116. Hey Mek. It must cost you a small fortune for candy.

    ReplyDelete
  117. It ALWAYS snowed on Halloween in Colorado - therefore, you didn't get many kids!! and had ALL the candy left for yourself!!!

I ALWAYS buy stuff that I like, so if it's left over - well, you know!!!!

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  118. maybe for trick or treat in the nest we can all change our avatars to our favorite candy.....

    ReplyDelete
  119. Shirley - the year before it was almost 300 kids - we get the big bags at Costco or Sams Club.

or on sale at Walmart or Target..

NEVER pay full price - but it is small price to pay to NOT have your house t-peed or egged!!!

    :-)

  141. oops, I just googled "Maryjanes" They make them rectangular and come in yellow wrappers. I'm not sure what mine are called now. Any guesses?

    ReplyDelete
  142. ok, I just checked my wrapper... it's called Mary Jane geesh that's weird!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Goodnight Ronnie, I'm heading out too!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Mary/MI And, of course, Mary Jane is another term for marijuana. Is that what you mean? Is it, huh, huh, is it, is it? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  145. Shirley I love your haunted house. Very cute.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Hi anyone left....I love the candy Mary Jane but then I like almost all candy. I think my favorite are Milk Duds!

I am taking off my orange shirt, putting away my Bronco signs and I will admit I switched to DWTS at half time. Glad I wasn't at any party that does shots for touchdowns or I would be passing out from thirst. I thought about having one for every penalty!

JODI: You surely did not have on your shirt, right? I heard you were sick and maybe that was why the shirt wasn't working.

BONO: Take off your cheerleader outfit...that didn't work either!

    ReplyDelete
  147. J/L: Looks like your team fired their coach yesterday. It must be a California thing. :)

I loved watching the brother and sister compete against each other tonight on DWTS for the same dance. They are both so darn cute!

EMK: I would like some of that candy. It will really mess you up if you accidently give two to one kid! We don't have any kids here. I usually go to my son's house to be around the kids, etc.

SHIRLEY: You are up late tonight. I think it would be fun to have a Halloween party the whole day of the 31st!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yea, I made it to the 200 mark!! I am surprised the I didn't see anyone sneak in as they usually do!! Guess I will have a Pepsi to toast myself. I wish there were still some gingerbread pancakes around. SHIRLEY: do you make pumpkin ones too?

Well, this conversation is getting very boring with myself. Night All

    ReplyDelete
  149. dianne - congrats on 200!!

i also stopped watching the game at half time... then Mr. MEK switched back and said - if they score one more time - I'm going to bed - they scored and I got the remote!!!

    :-)

and, the bowl IS set up to give two things to each kid -

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  150. I'm off to bed.....

    Good Night, everybody!!

today was a long day, tomorrow will be long as well.....

I hope everyone has an excellent Tuesday!!
    :-)

  151. OMG, Owl Manor could get downright bizarre on Halloween, especially now that we know there's more to the place than meets the eye.

Dianne, Shirley, et al: COUNT me in! LOL!

Although, I will be in Palm Springs on the 31st, and going out (possibly in drag!) on Halloween night down there.

I wonder what costumes other owls will be wearing... of course, our costume in the Manor doesn't have to the same as in real life...

Carol: Fantastic blog about your nephew today! It makes me want to meet him!

    ReplyDelete
  152. Dianne Loved your march to 200! Congrats! I loved your toast to yourself, too. Oh, and by the way, who is EMK? LMAO!

Bear Good evening! If you dress up will you take pics to show us? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  153. J/L: EMK is the MEK's twin sister. I guess you didn't know about her. Ok, not really...it's what I call MEK when I am typing secretly to her on the blog so no one will know who I am talking too. So, that means don't tell or you know what could happen......
