Mischief Night!

Tomorrow is Halloween, which means tonight is mischief night! I remember as a teen going out on mischief night loaded with eggs, chalk, silly string and drink of choice. Yes I was one of those teens that would throw eggs at a parked car, draw a pumpkin in your driveway, spray silly string on your front gate and drink so much, that I would throw up on your steps. And of course left everything as is, as clean up was not part of mischief night.

I will admit, it was fun, and at the time I did not regret it one bit. As I think back, all I can see are all those random houses that we left our mark on, and those house owners that had to clean up our mess, Especially the throw up..

And I still don't regret it... Geez what a rebel I am.. :O)

So today we owls will be mischievous in our nest. Throw eggs, Spray Silly String, Have someone sit on a whoopie cushion, etc. Whatever your imagination can conjure up, go for it, as we only live once, and since its mischief night, we can't get in trouble....

And if you have any Mischief memories. Please share...

Tomorrow we are having a Halloween Party in the nest, please arrive at the nest with your avatar in costume. You will also be required to wear a costume, whatever you choose to be (you can be what your avatar is or something else), please describe for us what your wearing as a costume in your comment, and whatever you might be, all your comments tomorrow should be in character.

I will judge the costumes and all the comments, and whoever is the most creative and stays in character all day, will win a toaster,
courtesy of photobucket :O)

If one is not up to joining the nest in costume, that is fine, just come along for the Halloween ride.

All can join in.. Fun on the nest!

  8. You little vixen you! LOL! We did many of the same things and it was fun without regret. We were armed with shaving cream rather than silly string, but it left its mark just the same.

Sorry I will miss the party. I am volunteering at the teen center. We are having a big bash in hopes that the kids here behave...unlike us. :D

    Have fun everyone!!

I told them I couldn't afford a wreath for Remembrance Day in Dad's name this year. I have gotten one every year since he passed away. I just didn't have the money this year. They didn't order one.

  19. Shirley:
I agree with Goldie, its in your heart, he knows. We must not take what our family members do to heart, we must let it go (like w/my Brother), or we will be just as miserable as they are (again, meaning my Brother)...

Chin up, Back Straight, and take aim at anyone who enters the nest...

  20. Mek:
I just threw a egg at you, of course in a most endearing way...

  21. I am going to wish everyone a Happy Halloween this morning as I don't think I will be able to be back on until after Halloween. Today I must start baking my pumpkin pies and my famous buns for tomorrow night's hot dogs. I have the baby all day tomorrow and then the other grandchildren come at 5:00 for Trick or Treat. Then it's off to my daughter's house for her big Halloween party. The decorations at her house, inside and out are amazing. Have a safe Halloween everyone. See you on Saturday.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Good Morning Mek. You slipped in while I was typing. Hope you are feeling a little better today. I know it takes a long time.

  23. Morning Glories!

    Shirley got first!

Mischief night huh? I do remember TPing a few trees in my time. Won't do that now! At the price of TP I just can't absorb the extra expense into my budget! (rim shot)! LOL

I will be dressing up tomorrow, but I won't be here most of the night as I am working the Haunted House for our fund raiser. I have put together a witches costume and even bought some glow in the dark face paint! Hope it works and it does not make me break out! LOL

I will try to get a pic if it turns out.

Shirley I have learned after many years not to rely on my family for much. At first it drove me crazy. Now I just carry on.

I suggest that you make a wreath or better yet sit down and write your Dad a letter. Put everything in it about how you miss him and how much you loved him. IMHO this will bring you comfort and honor his memory.

Now I am going to step over all of the trip wires I am spotting here in the manor and try to find the coffee pot. Please tell me you did not rig it in someway? If you did it will be all out war! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  24. cpgem - you missed!!!
    :-)

I might have to be a zombie tomorrow if I dont' get any sleep.

  25. Mek:
If I missed what is that yellow stuff running down your back???

  26. Mischief Night was a very big deal here in NJ (and still is). I heard Kelly Ripa talking about it today, as well. Now that I am seeing some comments from you guys, I guess Mischief Night is not universal, something like May Day which I never heard of until iteach wrote her blog...

So I guess, if some of you have never had Mischief Night, today is your day to create havoc!!!!

    Enjoy!

  30. Good Afternoon Everyone,

Carol, We called it Devils Night, same thing, everyone keeps their porch lights on. It got pretty bad in Detroit, now they have ANGELS NIGHT, but we live in a suburb of Detroit, but they still call it Devils Night, but the kids don't do nothing around here. I was rather boring as a kid, I never did anything, I was the one sitting on the porch with a flashlight LOL. Now my sister, ANOTHER STORY, she was throwing Eggs, and doing everything else.

Ok, just stopped in to say HI, I'm on the run again.

I will take a picture of me in my costume, Yes I am really dressing up, for the second grade party.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Wow, I have never heard of Mischief Night. David mentioned to me something about Devil's Night. When I was 15 I was in a car with my sister and friends and one of the boys threw an egg at the windshield of a car driving in the opposite way. The guy in the car slammed on his brakes and turned around and came after us ready to kill us. Our car out ran him but I think we learned our lesson and never did it again.

  32. I changed my Avator. Lets see if this worked?..

    ReplyDelete
  33. I am dropping by really quick as I have errands and a dentist appt. but I wanted to comment...I also have not heard of mischief night but I think I can join in.

Hee Hee....Yes, LYNND, the coffee has been brewing all night (I am sure JODI got it going). *ok..here is a secret--don't tell LYNND...I put a "small" amount of laxative in the coffee. It will be funny and I hope she took a muffin too...I put some Imodium in those(you know, just to counter act, in case). I wonder who else has been drinking the coffee? Don't you think they will all think it is HILARIOUS??? I am being so quiet that SHIRLEY doesnt' even see me--could be the camouflage I am wearing!

    ReplyDelete
  34. SHIRLEY: I wanted to comment to you regarding your family and the wreath. I agree with what LYNND mentioned about writing a letter. I attended some grieving classes after losing my husband and that is one of the things we did. It was sad and happy all together (if that makes any sense). Maybe have this be YOUR new tradition for each year. I am guessing that you talk to you your dad in thoughts each day and he knows! Remember that old saying, "we can't pick our family."

Ok...now I have to get going to my errands and to get out before you see me! I am excited to see all your plans for the next couple of days. Hugs...

    ReplyDelete
  38. Carol: You are such a devil! No wonder you secretly enjoyed the drama on the Rossblog! LOL!

We didn't have Devil or Mischief night in Ontario; all the mischief happened on Halloween night itself. I have lots of mischief storied to relate... later!

Have a great day before Halloween, owls!

  39. I love all my new friends on MySpace! Thank you guys for adding me. :D

I had a minute away from work (read stalking Rosie since she closed her Ask Ro section) and wanted to tell you guys about what we did to the gym teacher one year on Mischief Night, he was a really stickler, made us do "boy" push-ups and said the "girl kind" are for whimps!

So because he asked for it... we showed up at his house and we put jockstraps, cups, bras and underwear all over the trees and lawn in his yard. Some were new garments bought for the occasion, some were stolen from the locker room hamper, and some were stolen from our family member's dresser drawers.

A waistband on a pair of granny panties will really take flight when you shoot them like a rubber band up a tree! :D

Another time we stole all of the lawn ornaments we could get our hands on in the neighborhood, and set them up in his yard. But that was just a normal spring day. :P

  111. Maybe we can find Hodi if we follow the Glazer donut crumbs. On second thought, maybe it would lead us to a trap.

  112. Upon further inspection I see that:

Zona is in heaven with a shell

    Sandie got forked

    Tina is pink (fetching btw)

    Carol is amazed

And someone is trying, without success, to make an omlet.

    And Shirley, used TP, ewwwwww

  114. *Coming in with a big BIG kettle of freshly made potato soup* It sure sounds like with all the playing today that we could use some nice warm soup to take the chill off when we come in from the cool days and nights. ENJOY! I sliced up potatos, carrots, onion, green peper and slow cooked it all evening. I have saltines, soup crackers, club crackers, melba toast and Ritz crackers if you need some crackers with your soup. Also, I made a fresh pot of hot cinnamon cider and hot cocoa to go with it or caffeine free tea if you prefer.

  115. If the doorbell rings and there's a burning bag on the front porch, DON'T STEP ON IT!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Bebbi That sounds delicious. I'd love to have some with some hot cocoa please. Don't slip on my slimey pumpkin seeds. :)

    ReplyDelete
  117. Congrats on first Shirley!

Great Blog Carol, I didn't know about Mischief Night either. Sounds like fun. I remember a few times we went out on Halloween night and were a little rowdy. Good times, for sure.

  118. Just lin, I had to wear my high traction boots. I had a little inkling there was quite a mess in here..LOL. A little Owl told me ;)

Glad you would like to have some soup. I brought bowls, spoons and all the necessities. Grab a tray and help yourself to some. :) There are bacon bits, shredded cheddar cheese, chives and sour cream if you would like to garnish.

    ReplyDelete
  119. And of course, marshmallows for the cocoa!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Bebbi, Your soup sounds goos as long as there isn't a 'secret' ingredient in it like Dianne used in the coffee.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Well Hells bells it is messy in here! You kids have been playing hard while I was gone.

There are not enough brownies in the world to convince me to help clean this frigging mess up!! But I will make more so you all have some "fun" while you are cleaning up!

    Sandie- I'm with you!

    ReplyDelete
  122. Bebbi I think your bacon bits are movie. Are you sure they are just bacon bit?

    ReplyDelete
  123. JL- remember my "pity puking"? I also have a very sensitive gag reflex- and your pumpkin is putting it over-drive!! blahhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  124. Goldie no need to worry about cleaning up. Carol has hired a cleaning crew for that.

    ReplyDelete
  125. I won't be making any more mess either. I have put all my stuff away (fingers crossed). I think I'll just go to my room and read. Bye! (whistling down the hall)

  126. ***Sacbarb, Lani, Just Lin, Goldie & Bebbi...all new target. What to launch first.***

    ReplyDelete
  127. Shirley you little imp- why is it that I possibly do not believe you? Now I am going to have to sleep with one eye open!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Goldie I am hurt that you would think that. I wouldn't hurt a feather on your boa!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mek and Vig I hope you are both reading and having a chuckle or two.
    (((((((HUGS)))))))))

  130. sacbarb, You are safe. I wouldn't ever do that. It is perfectly healthy very wholesome potato soup. I do make it cream base so there is milk in it, if you are lactose intolerant. I do use skim milk though because my daughter is and she can still have my soup, as a matter of fact, I have frozen a portion for her when she comes home from university. This is my second batch this year so far. I am quite the soup maker in my family.

I make good potato, chicken noodle, bean soup, particularly pea soup is a favorite around here. :) So enjoy without any worries.

Shirley bird, I knew you would see me as a target thank goodness I was able to sneak in and get the soup and warm drinks here safely. *Wearing heavy yellow slicker raincoat, traction safe boots,* *pulling an umbrella out of my very long pocket, opening it and getting out my rain cap and tucking my hair up in it*

Also, standing by the door ready to run.

  131. Ohhh ohh am i in trouble now! I took Shirley's 169!! Oopps

    ReplyDelete
  132. Shirley, I don't understand what you mean when you say that my bacon bits are a movie? We call them bacon bits here. *lil quirky confused look*

    ReplyDelete
  133. Shirley- I secretly thought you wouldn't hurt a feather on my boa, I just didn't want to make anyone else jealous. Just our little secret---:)

bebbi- I LOVE soup- and split pea with ham is my favorite!
I make a mean cream of potato with ham and bacon too...

    ReplyDelete
  134. goldie: that sounds good with potato, ham and bacon! YUM! Mr. Bebbi added pepperoni pieces to his potato soup tonight and that tasted good too. Soup is my favorite. It just makes me feel at home. The hardest part I had was making it without eating 3 bowls, I will have some tomorrow night for dinner and I ate appropriately well before 7pm. All my new habits. You can still have what you always have so long as you plan carefully and don't over indulge (VERY HARD to do, but definitely worth the trouble). Also, I walked 12188 steps today.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Ohh I get it.....*LIGHT BULB GOES ON*...You meant MOVING..good lord, Shirley, what did you replace my bacon bits with?????

*walks over and looks, sees that SOMEONE tried to replace my bacon bits with lady bugs. TOSSES the lady bugs outside as I walk out and go to my car and get MORE real bacon bits*
Shirley bird, very funny!! Now, let's not get anyone sick here! :)

*walking over and eyeing the 50 ROLLS OF TOILET PAPER ....hmmmm,,nawww..once bitten twice shy! hehe

    ReplyDelete
  136. Goldie I'm feeling a lot better now. Sorry if I made you gag.

    ReplyDelete
  137. *NOTICE* No Lady bugs were harmed in the tossing, they all happily flew away home.

    ReplyDelete
  138. In Owl land, we have cars that never break down. :) Also, they fly like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, with big owl wings.

  139. I think it is time to head up and tuck in- sounds like tomorrow could be interesting in here!!!

    Sleep well- if you dare......

    ReplyDelete
  140. LMAO!! Bebbi yes I meant to say "moving" not "movie"

    ReplyDelete
  141. Goodnight goldie and sweet dreams. I think I will head out too.

From Area 51: Carol, I am obsessed with that too. The tragedy for Jennifer Hudson is just immeasurable. It truly breaks my heart. :(

Just now got back to yesterday's blog to check out the final comments. Whabby your traditions sound nice too.

Sleep well all and don't forget to wear your heavy raincoats, slicker boots, hair caps (the shower kind so you can keep your nice hairdo), and bring large umbrellas tomorrow.

I will have mine on and I will be standing very close to the exit..hehe. :)

Hugs and sweet dreams to all, I am heading off to bed.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Goldie be sure to check under the covers before you crawl into bed. You never know. I'm just sayin'.
