Move on, Already!

Ok, so I am very ready to move on, it seems everything is in a turmoil, people are at odds, and tensions are running high. What I believe some don't, what others believe I don't. Its a 50/50 split, and there is no in between.

I don't remember ever feeling so at odds with others during a election year. Everyone I come in contact with, including clients, feel the need to bring up this election, and converse with me, on our world events. I am done talking about it. Life is so fragile, with any given moment something could go amiss. There is so much more to life than politics. The American people have gotten all caught up in this election. Its like a never ending web.
I don't like spiders, they scare me, and so does this election.

I will participate in this election and cast my vote, I will be a American and do what was given to me, the freedom to vote.

Will life really change? Will all these promises come true? Is the change they speak of really going to happen? What change exactly does everyone want? Does one really think one person can make all the changes set forth?

I think not, its all politics, which to me is bullshit.

We will be what we are, Poor, Middle Class, Rich. As that is just the way it is. Whoever is elected, we will be the same.

I believe as John Stossel believes on 20/20, not one man can change it all, spontaneous order will prevail, before any one man can do what is promised.

  2. Carol, I totally agree with your blog. After working in the Governor's Office for over 16 years, I have learned that politicians can make all the promises they want, but they can only do so much. Even those with the best intentions end up having to compromise their beliefs in order to get the votes they need to pass a bill. Eventually, they almost always turn to the dark side. I have seen it happen so many times. So, Stossel is right, one man, even a President, cannot change the order. It is what it is!

  3. Good morning and congrats on 1st Sacbarb. Welcome back!

Carol I believe you're suffering from voter fatique. Go into the kitchen and see if there is any bacon and jello shots left over from the other day. That might fix you up.

  4. Good Morning Everyone!

CPGEM: I've purposely tried to stay far away from discussing this election. I have my thoughts and beliefs..but emotions are running so high, I think I just want to keep them to myself. I'm so non-confrontational that politics is not my topic of choice. Saying that..I do agree, no politician can keep all the promises they make. It's the nature of the game to try and keep everyone happy so you can be re-elected, and we all know...you CAN'T please everyone all the time.

I really think that most politicians hope the voting public suffers from short term memory loss. ;)

  5. Thanks Shirley, Good to see you in the nest again. I think you're right, we are suffering from two years of campaigning and I, for one, am very tired of it. I think I'll check out the kitchen for left-overs.

  7. Good morning early birdies!

Congrats to SacBarb for 1st today!

I don't like talking politics, and can't stand all the ads on tv. Just sick of it all. Thank God for the mute button!

I need to catch up on the blogs of the past couple days, but wanted to wish MO a belated b-day. Sorry I'm late but hope you had a fun day!

    Hi Shirley and Zona!

Hey Zona. I don't talk politics much either. I do feel strongly about some things, but I don't like to get into heated discussions either. I'm probably not going to change anyone's opinion and no one will change mine.

  10. Morning Owls!

Carol...I know what you mean! I have a friend in Baltimore that believes the opposite of me and he always wants to discuss it when he calls. I keep changing the subject, but he wouldn't give up. Finally had to tell him that I just preferred to agree to disagree.

  11. Good Morning Sacbarb - It's nice to see you first today.

    Good Morning Zona-my-baby,
Shirley, East Bay J, and Scirish.

Zona - I am so glad to see you posting. That means you are finally over that 'flu shot'. I agree with Tina, I think it was a co-incidence. I think you were coming down with the flu just as you got the shot. I bet you aren't eager to get one next year, however.

I will leave the politic talk to the Americans on the blog. I got sick of the Canadian "promises" in 8 weeks.

I have a lot of long distance calls to relatives to make this morning so I will be back later. Have a great Saturday everyone. Love, Tinka

  17. Way to go on First sacbarb!!

Hello Sacbarb, Shirley, Zona, EBJ, Tink, Jodi, Mek and Scirish!

Well, I walked to the store and turned in my lottery tickets, walked to my mother's apartment and locked it up for her and walked her dog, and walked back home - 6,594 steps today so far! woot woot ...AND I have lost 31 pounds!! double woot woot!

I hope everyone has a good a Saturday as I am having.

Carol, great blog. I agree 100% and 20/20 was really good last night. It is so odd that I think we are sitting down and watching the same programs and yet I have never heard any of your voices or don't even know what type of accent you have or anything! Weird. I have my opinions about the election but I am still really researching some things so I haven't decided yet. Either way, you are right, really how much difference will it make?

  18. Donna Jean...I just saw you post from the other day..The cramps/spasms originate in the left side of the middle of my back. They make a circle around my abdomen and are constant. Exercise and sitting make them worse, rest helps. I also get spasms down my legs and into my feet. These don't happen all the time, but I don't know what causes them. I have tried all the things you have (calcium, magnesium etc.) with no results. The diagnosis seems to be that the cramps are coming from damage to the thoracic region. The trigger shots are lidocaine and cortisone that is injected into the muscle to stop the cramping. The jury is still out as to if this helps or not. I would guess that since you are getting them in your abdomen as well as your legs, that they may be caused by your back issues and are not "simple" leg cramps. One thing that you may want to try though, is quinine water. I just bought some, but it is too early to tell if it helps. I totally understand what you mean about the pain. My life is adversely affected daily buy these but it is very hard to make someone understand the level of pain, even a doctor. Hope this helps and I wish you luck....let me know if you find a way to stop them....

  19. TINKA: I'm thinking TINA was right too..a coincidence..or maybe allergies run amok. I'm allergic to so many things...

SACBARB: Politics and religion can get you in trouble everytime!

  21. Shirley: LOL at voter fatigue!! that is funny!!!!

Zona: Glad you are feeling better!

Tink: I have to get my flu shot next week. I hope I don't get sick! Glad you are feeling a little better.

DREAMA!!! Good morning or afternoon or whatever and good to see you. :) How's it down in Texas today??

    ReplyDelete
  22. SCIRISH: So sorry to hear that you are in pain...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Hello Scirish, Jeezz..I had no idea you lived with so much pain. I hope that you have lots of ways to alleviate it. :( I have constant pain in my knees, the doctor said that I will have it always now but it doesn't incapacitate me unless my knees go out, then I am in trouble!

Losing weight has helped so much with the pain. I was walking back from the store with two diet cokes, my purse and a newspaper. I thought about how much the extra weight drags me down and realized that those items weigh a lot less than the 31 pounds I had been carrying around for so long. I am so glad I am losing the weight.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Wow, kind of quite right now..!! I am wondering if I am all alone in this nest...hmmmmm...I need to find the water balloons!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Bebbi: You are not alone! LOL!

Carol: I completely agree with you and SacBarb. Obama will not be able to exert the sweeping changes that politicians always say the will. The entrenched institutions have too much inertia.

But, he will be able to influence foreign policy, and to at least tweak with domestic agendas. That gives me some hope.

However, my main point in this comment is that, while I agree with you on the limited power that elected officials have to implement huge changes, this election continues to be just incredibly important to me. I can't afford to succumb to election fatigue.

The reason is, of course, California's Proposition 8. This is pretty much the first time in my life that the outcome of a vote is going to impact me in a direct, profound way.

Imagine, owls, if people were going to the polls on November 4 to vote to abolish YOUR marriage!!!!

I posted over on the Rossblog about this yesterday, in case anybody is interested. Then, today, I go onto the "Yes on 8" website, and this is what I read:

"It is imperative that all pastors and Christian leaders view this for what it is: an irretrievable moment, with profound and lasting consequences. We must vigorously support Prop 8, as if our ministries and our lives depend on it. Ultimately, they will."

    -Dr. Jim Garlow
    Senior Pastor
    Skyline Wesleyan Church
    La Mesa, CA
Leader, CA Pastors Rapid Response Team

So, now, the hyperbole on the "YES" side has reached the point where they're claiming that OUR LIVES DEPEND ON IT????

When I read that, I not only totally freaked out, but started to get angry. The YES forces on this proposition are really starting to roll, getting organized, arranging public gatherings and demonstrations, etc. etc.

    Lord help us.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Good afternoon everyone, I think it is very important for us to always speak up to our representatives regarding our views. It may seem feutal, however, if enough people speak up maybe we really could make some decent changes.

Whabbear: 8 has my no vote. What our lives depend on is a kinder world and one that appreciates each others differences.

    ReplyDelete
  27. That should have read not a "cloud" in the sky. Regardless I am glad that there are no cluds in the sky either.
    Wabbear........
that is just plain horrible. It is sad that there are these groups that try to unite with their theatrics and drama. Hopefully rational people out number these judgemental arses.
Bebbi...waving up to you! I'm going back outside and do some more yard work. It's such a beautiful day but I needed to come inside for a break and make lunch for me and the pooch.

  41. SacBarb Hey, good job getting number one today!

Bebbi You are doing such a wonderful job with your walking and weight loss! Kudos!

Lani LMAO @ Vivaldi's One Season!

Carol This election season has been more emotional and passionate than usual and I think that's why we feel so worn out and tired of it. Plus, they are playing an ad here for Prop 2 regarding deplorable conditions for the animals that are destined to provide us with food. They must who it every 15 min. at night and I cannot bear to look at it.

Bear I am certainly voting against Prop 8, also.

    ReplyDelete
  42. ....they must "who" it every 15 min.? I meant, "play" it every 15 min. Geez!

    ReplyDelete
  43. I agree that no one who becomes President will be able to accomplish everything they want to. Only a dictator could do that.

If I may make this analogy, our country reminds me of a ship going down the Mississippi. We are always aiming for the same destination but the course of the Mississippi is changing constantly, sometimes, very drastically. Not only does it change its course at its banks, but it changes constantly underneath where you can't see. The moving water is constantly pushing the mud underneath into new and ever changing mounds. The Captain must be ever vigilant so as not to suddenly run aground in a spot that was smooth sailing just the day before. In my opinion, our "ship" is now very damaged from being run aground way too many times. I am ready for a new Captain, one who learned to read charts at a different school than our current one.

This is, of course, IMHO. :)

  44. EBJ Your glowing red owl is very impressive!

  45. I was picked up at the airport by my sister....and what did we talk about? not politics~ :)~ Actually, after lunch we did....i told her about today's blog, and after some discussion, we agreed that the media chooses the President~

I also asked her about Prop 8....but she says that she hasn't heard much on it (other than the obvious tv ads) either way....~

    Zona~ how you feeling today~

    Jodi~ I went to CA....I hope that's okay~ :)~

Carol~ I'm already enjoying my fam.....out to dinner tonight to celebrate Dad's b-day~

  47. Good afternoon or evening Owls!

I had no internet from 1:00pm yesterday until 1:00pm today. Arrrrgh

I did get some housework done and errands run. So in one way it was very positive.

Carol I totally understand your blog. However I have come alive this election year and have pretty much quit watching the Main Stream Media and did my research and still do via the internet news and political sites.

For the first time I can remember in my life I am excited about an election and I feel like we are living history. It almost seems surreal. There are so many things that need addressed in our country right now and I can only cast the vote for the person who I think will make an honest effort to help us move forward.

On that note I am going to my first ever political rally tomorrow and I am very excited!

Whabbear I am so hoping that prop 8 goes down in flames! Where is seperation of church and state????

What others believe in their own chosen religion should have no bearing on how the rest of us chose to live.

    Ok off my soapbox.

PS my remote mute gets a work out on the political commercials. Local and national! LOL

I had smores!! I love smores. But I only had one. :) And, I had two pieces of cheese pizza. I am stuffed!! I ate a lot today!!

tina: Happy birthday to your dad and I am glad you had a safe flight too. What is prop 8?

Carol & J/L: Thanks for the kudos.

  50. Good Evening Hooters!

Totally respect your views Carol, but like Lynn I must say that for the first time ever I am Passionate about this election.
My yard signs were planted today! I don't for a minute believe that everything promised will happen- but I have hope that everythinbg promised will be attempted.

Whab- you know how I feel about Prop 8- I only wish I had the ability to vote on it. My son does though, and has already cast his vote- as have ALL of his friends.

Mr. Goldie met Jodi today and her daughter Sam. He is now finally convinced she is not an ax murderer. He does think she should carry one though, since Sam is such a beauty and she is going to be fighting off those boys!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Goldie Maybe Jodi had to leave her ax at home because it was dirty after chopping up apples for her apple crisp. LOL

  52. Somebody help me....

  53. Goldie:
That is so funny "ax murderer" it does seem that if one does not know our connections on line, they think these crazy things..

My SSO, used to think that, at first he was very apprehensive, however last week I was talking to MEK on the phone and he clicked in, when I told him I was talking to MEK from the blog, he said "oh ok, go talk to your Lady Friend" When I got back to MEK and told her, we started to laugh.. It only took him almost a yr to realize there was no ax murderer's on the nest...

    :O)

    Happy Birthday to Tina_not_in_utah's Dad!!!!

  56. Carol: I suspect you're right. No ax murderers here.

However, I also suspect we have some owls who play musical instruments... badly.

If I'm right, we have some sax murderers in our midst!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Goldie: Hooray for your son and his friends! Perhaps, perhaps, the truth will win here.

  58. Hey!

JL I was searching for a Halloween owl and this is the best I could find. It's title is "demon owl".

Carol, much of my family was gathered today in a park in northern NJ, for the wedding of a cousin.

I know my brother lives near you, and it was in a park near his house. I will see if I can find out the name of the park. I was thinking it might be that beautiful park that you included in a blog not too long ago.

We had gorgeous weather today, about 80 degrees.

JL neither I nor MR. EBJ can watch that Prop. 2 commercial, it is heartbreaking.

Seems like the closer to election time, the more frequent they play the commercials. The Prop. 2 commercial does seem to run every 15 minutes.

The one that has Jamie Leigh Curtsi and the singing kids is becoming annoying too, it is just too much to hear over and over and over and over.

Dreama thank you for the shout out to Paula and Poe!

Hi to Tinka, Jodi, Goldie, Bebbi, Scirish, Tina, MEK, Lani, Whab and Lynn.

    ReplyDelete
  59. ebj: Thank you for the hello. I too can't watch the prop 2 ad. The humane society ad with the arms of an angel song is painful to watch also. I have to flip the station immediately. To ad insult to injury was when the station I flipped it to was running the same ad.
