Time Warp?

by Jodi

Because it is Halloween week, I thought I would share one of my all time favorite clips from The Rocky Horror Picture Show!!!

There was a time (about 25 years ago) that every Saturday night my friends and I would end up at the Majestic Theater in Madison. We went every Saturday night for about 6 months straight!!! What a freakin' hoot!!

I hope this brought back some fun memories for those of you that have seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show. And if you're a Rocky Horror virgin, well get up and do the Time Warp!!!

  3. Good morning Hooters!

Congrats on 1st scirish and almost 1st lani!

Great clip and blog Jodi!! What is so fun about this was that I went to the Majestic too (just not every Sat. night) to see it. I also remember my kids going! Midnight showing at the majestic- those memories are almost as much fun as the show!!

  4. I have heard of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for years. Now I know I have to see it.

Since my computer was down yesterday I had to go to Blog rehab for withdrawls.

By the way, the problem turned out to be an abundance of corn jammed up in it. Might you know where it came from HOdi?

  8. Good Morning!!

JODI: Oh, do I remember the RHPS!! Two of my best friends in High School were huge fans, and went to the midnight showing every Saturday night at the Sombrero Theater downtown. He was Brad..she was Magenta. I was just a spectator. They taught me to do the Time Warp in the living room, and then convinced me to go with them the next Saturday night. As much as they had told me about it, I had NO idea what I would find. I had been to other midnight movies..but this was a world unto it's self. Toast went flying, water pistols were being shot, newspapers rattled, everyone in the theater yelled "Asshole" at the screen..and the whole movie was re-enacted on stage as it was playing. My friends decided to go up on stage and left me, alone, in the audience. Well, being a newbie..I promptly freaked out!! I'm embarrassed to admit it, but I called home and had my dad come and get me...I know, how lame is that?? My friends thought it was hysterical. Man, what a night. I never did go and see the movie again, but we do own the DVD...and I appreciate it so much more now.

Thanks JODI...what a great blog...it really does bring back terrific memories.

  15. Morning Glories!

    scrishy got first! LOL

Lani almost made it! Glad you got the corn out of your computer!

Rocky Horror picture show! Yes I remember this movie well as I had to work it when I was in High School.

I worked for the theaters in our town at the time one man owned both theaters and the drive in.

He decided to run Rocky at the drive in because of the mess that would be made! LOL Very smart. I remember everyone going crazy and all seemed to be chemically enhanced in someway! LOL

We had a couple of wannabe transvestites who kept trying to use the womens bathroom. Thought the manager was going to have a heart attack chasing them out of there!

The next day for clean up there was toast all over the parking lot. The poor guys had to fight the seagulls to get it cleaned up! ROFLMAO

I did see it but was a little tipsy and have blanks here and there from that time. Saw it later on video and thought it was hysterical!

    Great fun Jodi!

Hope you all have a great day!

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY SACBARB!!!!

  36. SacBarb...Happy Birthday!!!!

Renee...I didn't get the shots yesterday...since they didn't work for me, they are going to shoot stuff in my facet joints (behind the vertebrae) next Wed. Thankfully, I get drugs for this, but I'm nervous already!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Carol..yup, I am pumped and primed with my bag of Cheetos already to go for BL tonight! Have a great yellow day at work. Got your umbrella?

Scirish...the toast gets thrown, when one of the characters (Frank) makes a toast at dinner.

Everbody...if you haven't seen movie "The Secret Life of Bees" it is well worth seeing! I saw it yesterday and loved it!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Suffice to say, I LOVE RHPS! Can't begin to count the times I've seen it.

The thing about the movie is, it's funny. There's this charming schlocky amateurish element to it that still makes me laugh, even after all these years and all these viewings.

Example: When Little Nell (the woman in the gold costume) falls into the steps after she does her solo spin number during the time warp. I smile every time!

And all the characters have this hilarious mean streak, especially Riff Raff! At one point later on in the film everybody's singing lustily until he gets right into the maid's (his beloved (?) sister Magenta's) face and screams at her to "SHUT UP"!!

At which point, I always CRACK UP!

Or... another random example, when the maid, Magenta again, announces dinner by deliberately banging on a gong so loudly that it almost deafens everybody in the room! LOL again!

Did you notice the sets of the movie... it really was filmed in a spooky old mansion in England!

Remind you of anywhere, owls? LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  39. scirish: At the formal dinner that I just mentioned Magenta announcing, Frank n Furter (check out the video I linked to, the "sweet transvestite" is him) says "A toast"!

At which point, all the audience members throw toast up in the air.

    ReplyDelete
  40. By the way, scirish, if you're looking for some nice fall comfort food, you could do worse than what Frank and his servants serve up at the dinner.

    Meatloaf.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hi, Carol! Zona!

Sacbarb: I think I remember that you haven't seen RHPS either. I wish I could take you to a showing for your birthday! Happy Birthday!

BTW, if we went you would need to bring:

    A lighter
    A mister
    Toast
    Rice
    Toilet Paper
    Pot

    A loud voice

    ReplyDelete
  42. Carol...
    Carol:

    From area 51: Answer...
'Help I've fallen and I can't get up'.

Doctor said since he was already in there he did it so when 'old age' arrives, I would have complete control. I guess he never thought about all the humor that would be coming my way on a place called The Night Owl Nest. That's okay, though, I have Nasa Pampers.

Love QOTD...or was that TMI that you gave out? LOL LOL Gotta love our Just/Lin, she always chooses good ones.

    Waving a wing to all.
    See you tonight.

  49. Happy Tuesday Owls.

Jodi, It's true that I have never seen this movie. There was a period of time when my middle son used to go to the midnight showing almost every weekend, but I don't remember him dressing oddly for it. And someone else must have brought the toast.

Bear, I wish you could take me to see RHPS too. I'm sure it would be an experience I wouldn't forget. So...a mister? Would Mr. Whabbear do???

Goldie, Thanks for the offer and the birthday wishes.

    Scirish, congrats on #1.

LynnD, I worked at a theater in my senior year of high school in Santa Maria and the same man owned the only two theaters and the only drive-in also. It was a very small town then.

Thanks to Zona, Lois, Carol, Lynn, Ronnie, Goldie, VIG, Scirish, MEK, Jodi, and Bear for the birthday wishes. I hope I didn't miss anyone.

I am going to lunch today with a former school chum whose birthday is Thursday. We are going to celebrate our advancing age together. Hopefully there will be no crying!!! BBL

  54. I just realized almost the entire movie is on YouTube clips now. Thought of posting Clip#30 (Don't Dream It, Be It), but thought we'd never get Zona out of her pool if we watched that one!!

For those who haven't seen RHPS, here's the sweet opening intro tune, as Brad and Janet arrive at Owl Manor...er, uh, I mean Frank N. Furter's place. Get out your water pistols and newspapers!!! (Extras if Shirley has already filled her SuperSoaker)

  55. Good day OWLETTES!!!!!!!!!!!

    Scrish ... Congrats on 1st!!!!!!!!!
Hope the shots worked this time!!!!

    Jodi....
This is one of my favorite movies...
    I own it...
Now.. I have to go dig it out and watch...

the first time I saw it... I went with people who had seen it before... it was the midnight movie... (we all ate little pieces of paper before we went)...
It was really weird to me why all these people were dressed up in costumes(In July) to go see a movie...
    well I soon found out....
and my friends let them know i was a RHPS virgin... so they brought all the virgins to the front of the theater ... and did their own little ritual before the movie started... it was called "ring around the virgins"....all us virgins stood there while all the people in costume held hands and circled around us..
    singing "ring around the virgins..."
Whabby.. I would love to have the theater experience of this movie again!!!!

    oh Jodi what memories!!!
    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Lani glad your corn problem is gone...LOL...LOL...(sure it was corn not porn...BBWWWAAAHHHH!!!!

    Just kidding!!!

    SACBARB...
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY... This is your special day...
Hope it is as wonderful as you are!!!!

sorry I never got back yesterday to post the chowder recipe... promise I will do that tonight when i get home...

    Goldie... Sandie...
glad you are both on the mend...

Hope everyone has a great day...

  58. scirish Congrats on #1!!!

Lani What were you doing up so early? Or did you never go to sleep? LOL

Jodi Thank you for this fun blog. After RHPS was mentioned the other day, I went online and watched this clip. What fond memories! I first saw it at a midnight showing when it was first making the rounds in theaters. There was no advertising for it, just word of mouth. You've got Susan Sarandon, Barry Bostwick, Tim Curry and Meatloaf. How could you go wrong? It is so campy and fun (also messy). Loved it. It still makes me smile all these years later.

Bear Thanks for posting that clip, which is my personal favorite. Tim Curry was just so perfect in that role!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks for showing me that clip, Jodi, as I've never seen the movie either! I've heard lots about it!

Congrats on first, scirish! I hope everything goes well next week.

Thank you, Whabby, IBB and Lois Lane for the good wishes!

Shirley! I'm a big weenie and you're scaring me with all the stuff you're collecting for Halloween! LOL

Happy Birthday, sacbarb!!! I hope you have a wonderful lunch with your friend.

  65. NoNewz/LL I meant to say welcome back. Glad to see you again. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Have any of you tried the Easy Pumpkin Muffin idea? I think the original was with a spice cake mix (dry--don't add eggs, oil, water) and 15 ounce can of pumpkin (NOT pumpkin pie mix).

I tried it with spice cake last week and wasn't impressed. This morning, I tried it with Betty Crocker Super Moist Carrot Cake mix instead. VERY TASTY!

For you chocoholics, I've heard they're great with choc. mixes, too---the idea is they're much more low-cal and low-cholesterol than regular cake/muffins.

Hi, K'girl, Sandie, VIG, J/L and thanks again, JODI, for all the RHPS fun!

Back to work...think I'll be doing the Time Warp while dusting.

    ReplyDelete
  67. BonO That sounds very tasty with the carrot cake mix. Of course, I'd want to put cream cheese frosting on it. :)

I sure do miss the old days where Rosie, Ross and ANT had only nice people hanging around.

Did you all know that Janette (the Ja in JAHERO) has a blog? It doesn't seem too well known. But since I believe we all followed the trail of bread crumbs from Rosie's blog way back when, seems only fitting that I share Janette's link in case you didn't know.

Thanks k-girl and everyone for your continued wishes for my recovery. I recovered enough to go to lunch and a walk thru the mall with Mr. Goldie. Then got home completely exhausted.

  93. MEK: Is Barney your dog? It looks like something sad happened judging from what GOLDIE said. If so, I am sorry

  99. Hi All,

MEK, I am so sorry about Barney. I send good thoughts to you, MrMEK and Bailey. It is always so hard to lose a pet.

I am just flying by here for a quick hello to all and am off to bed.

I think DWTS made the right choice tonight, although I did think Cloris was funny---but certainly not a dancer.

SANDIE: Glad you are feeling better from your surgery.

JODI: I have never seen the movie either. It sounds like it would be fun to be sitting in the audience with toast! lol

    Ok, back to bed...night all.

  100. Hello Owls. I am home from my meeting and I want to thank Bon'O, Turtle, Just_Lin, Sandie, Tina, and Mo for the birthday wishes. I hope I didn't miss anyone. I had a very nice day.

IBB, I don't understand why you had to eat little pieces of paper before you went to see RHPS. Can you enlighten me? I may not want to see it if I have to do that.

Dianne, you are still a goof.

I think I'll be going to bed now. I'm getting old, ya know. I hope you all have a good sleep, especially MEK. Good night.
