Apple Orchard

by Renee Eve

What is your favorite fall outing?? I love going to the apple orchard, and getting a Queens Apple, which is an apple that is cored, with hot caramel, nuts, whip cream and a cherry. We do the train ride to pick out pumpkins, We watch my kids throw Hay in the big barn. I go thru Story Book Village with my little one now, the older ones go to the spook house with my husband. We eat Cider and Doughnuts and of course take home some Cider and doughnuts???

Favorite Fall Recipes??? I would love a good crock pot chili recipe for Halloween night, I'm SO SICK OF PIZZA, and I would love to make homemade bread to go with the Chili.

As you can tell I love the fall, and all that accompanies it, even raking the leaves :O)

  2. Morning Everyone!!

RENEE: I'm not sure what my fave Fall activity is..I'm still kinda waiting for the seasons to change. ;) The nights are cooling down some, and our neighbors are pulling up chairs to sit on the front porch and talk and laugh after a long hot summer. I like walking around the neighborhood and saying HI and checking in with everyone.

I finally got my mom's chili recipe to taste exactly like it did when she made it. I've never made it in a crockpot..don't know if it would tranfer over.

Here's hoping we see a change in the weather soon...I'm ready for it!!

    IBB: Congrats on FIRST!!

    I love going to these...
they even have a hot air ballon festival... didn't get there this year...
I have a really good crock pot recipe ... it is called Sante Fe chowder... let me know if you are interested in that... I make cornbread to go with it...
Hope everyone has a great day....

  4. I also had big problems with the blog and my space this weekend...
blog would let me read... but would not let me post...
and myspace wouldn't let me log in... kept telling me verify my log in info with a captcha thing but wouldn't show any letters in the box... was very aggrivating!!!

  6. Good morning Hooters!

Congrats on 1st ibb and hi to you Zona. Ibb- I would love that recipe!

Reene Eve- great blog-my favorite activity in fall is also the apple orchard/pumpkin patch. I have been there 3 times this year so far. I always loved to take my kids when the were little, and am looking forward to taking my grandbabies in a few years.

Mr. Goldie made chili yesterday- his own secret recipe and it is awesome! I would love to enter him in a contest. But it wouldn't work in the slow cooker, sorry.

I am so excited! I get to go upstairs and take a shower today. Although the trip up is going to be painful (I am horribly bruised and sore from my hip bone to my hoochie coochie and about 6 inches wide) TMI???? LOL
the area of my thighs that they did the angio and put in the stents are sore too). I am good sitting or just walking. it is the getting up and down that is a bitch. But its all good, there is a pulse in my feet again!!!

i just heard on the news that they found the missing SUV in the Jennifer Hudson family case- with a childs body.I am so sad for that family!

    Have a good day everyone!!

  8. Morning Owls!!!

Renee Eve...Could you come rake my leaves??? Pretty please?

I love the Fall also, I think my favorite activity is going to all the festivals. The air is (usually) clean and crisp and the trees beautiful. I just enjoy being outside (unless it has to do with leaf removal). We went to a local farm last weekend with my SO's daughter and her 2 yr old godson. They had a little hay maze, a pumpkin jungle gym, pumpkin decorating, hay rides and a make-your-own scarecrow. We all had a blast. Of course, we had to have Cider after all that activity. I bought a beautiful dark red 'mum and some wonderful apples. *sigh* I want to go it all again!

  12. Good morning,

WooHoo to you, Ibb, for first. I also love to go to the fall festivals. What fun!

Morning, Zona. i'm glad you are starting to get a little cooler weather. Like you, I have my mother's chili recipe and it would not transfer to a crock pot.

Favorite Fall activity? Of course it is being with my grandchildren and going to the pumpkin patch. We have one here, right outside Houston named Delorio's. We went yesterday afternoon and bought all kinds of fresh vegtables and of course pumpkins. We also got three bales of hay to put out front for the scarecrow to sit on, next to a few pumpkins. My little granddaughters, 3 and 1 squealed at the site of all those pumpkins and thought they needed to touch each one. Too cute.... I love this new memory that we made yesterday.

  13. I'm sorry, I mean she has 5 children total. LOL Hey I only had 1/2 a cup of coffee. LOL

I do love Halloween and seeing how creative the little ones can get with their costumes. They are so dang cute!

Favorite fall food Chili or a nice pot of stew! With rolls or cornbread or fresh baked bread and lots of butter! Makes me hungry thinking about it!

Goldie you be careful going up those stairs. If you can't make it there is always perfume or cologne!

Hope everyone has a great Monday!

Goldie - I hope you are feeling better.

Zona - You are up early or are you just going to bed?

VIG - What ferry did you finally make? We love living on an island except when there are long lines up the ferry?

  22. My favourite Fall activity is going to Butchart's Gardens to see the pretty trees. I didn't manage to get there yesterday because I was too long at the gravesite. Brian, Tango, Tia and I are going tomorrow. Our lovely sunshine is supposed to last until then. Be back in a while.

  23. Renee, My daughter has been doing this for a few years now and last year, someone left her the pumpkin container she had given them the year before, but with new goodies. Attached was a note that read something about knowing it was her the year before because of her famous homemade candy. Really quiet funny.

Morning Tink, hope you're doing well today.

  24. TINK: I'm just closing the door..though Nikki is reluctant to let me do so..and I'm on my way to sleep. I wanted to send you my love before I go!! Night!! :)

Extra ((((HUGS)))) for you today Tinka.

Renee I have never been boo'd nor have I boo'd anyone else. This is the first time I have ever heard of it. You learn something new every day. Lol!

I use to love going for drives in the fall. My Dad and I had a route we would take. He would take me and my sister and brother when we were little. Then when I got my license it was usually just him and I. It was mostly dirt road and along the banks of Roseway River. Very pretty. I haven't taken that drive for a long time...not sure I want to now. It wouldn't be the same.

Congrats on your first blog. Your Fall festivities sounds like so much fun. I wish I was there to tag along with you and the boys.
I love Autumn. I love the changing of the colors of the leaves. Last week I was busy spending my free time at the pumpkin orchards. We are going to the haunted houses at Heritage Park. We have also been going to some of the pre Halloween festivities. I enjoy seeing the children all dressed up in their costumes.

  32. I too enjoy crock pot cooking in cooler weather. If I can find my crock pot cook book then I'll write out the recipe for chili.I would love to have the recipe for Jason's Deli Chicken Pot Pie Soup. It's thick and delicious and I love going there on colder evenings.
Is anyone watching Aretha Franklin sing on The View?

  33. Smell that? No? Good! I had my shower!!!!!

Shirley- I have never heard of this whole Boo thing either before today. But sure sounds like a nice tradition doesn't it? Kind of like a May day thing.

  34. Congrats on first IBB!!

Renee Eve: What a great blog. I love Apple Cider and caramel apples at this time of year. Also, my grandfather and grandmother used to own an apple orchard so I have many good memories of that. Apple trees are the BEST for climbing!

I was just talking to my sister yesterday about making chili! It is the perfect time. This week I am going to make potato soup again. My family loves my soups. :)

I love the festivals and I love the walks for cancer, heart, etc.

Guess what guys! I have lost 35 lbs!!! woo hoo hoo! Renee, tell your sister I am catching up to her on the weight loss! :) 35 since August 11th!

LOL, Renee..glad you corrected that, I thought she had 25 children..lolol.

  36. OMG Dreama! I LOVE Jason's Deli! I never had their soup but I LOVE LOVE LOVE their salad bar. That is where my daughter and I went out to eat on Saturday!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Chili Con Carne
    serves 4-5
    1 lb ground beef
    2 med.chopped onions
    1 c. chopped green pepper
1 lg can tomatoes 28 oz
1 can 8 oz tomato sauce
    2 ts chili powder
    1 ts salt
    1/8 ts cayenne red pepper
    1/8 ts. paprika
    1 can kidney beans 16 oz.(drained)
Cook and stir beef, onion, & green pepper in lg skillet until meat is brown and onion is tender. Drain off fat. Pour into crock pot with remaining ingredients except for kidney beans. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and simmer 2 hours. Stir in beans, heat.Makes about 5 cups so I suggest doubling the recipe for left overs or larger families.

You've got to try Jason's chicken pot pie soup! The soup is topped with a puffed little baked bread. It is their best soup IMO. I order a cup of it with a roasted turkey sandwich on a toasted veggie wrap with lettuce, tomato, mushrooms, advocado & light mayo from the "build your own" menu.During summer days I skip the soup and get a side salad or a cup of fruit.I am a regular customer at Jason's Deli! :0)

  43. This boo'd game kind of sounds like when you set a bag of shit on fire, place it at someone's door, ring the bell and run like hell. Although this isn't a bag of shit, it's a bag of candy, which is way better...unless it's a shitty bag of candy. Ok back to the basement.

  48. Renee~~My favorite Autumn activity is taking short day trips out into the countryside. Yesterday, for example, was perfect! Crisp mid-30's morning gave way to a mid-70's sunny afternoon. We went East into the foothills and spent some time at the lake. I just love touring, windows down, enhaling all the aromas~~the fresh country air, country burn-piles of leaves, the sun-drenched evergreens and fresh waters, even the farms. Today, we're headed west toward the beaches.

Have a great Autumn day, all.

  49. Hi, J/L~~Just saw you there. Sounds like you need to run over to Lani's with a jigsaw puzzle and a basketful of owl hugs!

  50. I'm here, I'm here!

Renee, I'm so proud of you for writing your first blog! I love fall, too. I'm not sure what my favorite activity is, I just love being outside, having the doors open, etc. Of course, here in GA, fall can be anywhere from 55 to 75! Today is a gorgeous 65, breezy and sunny.

Goldie, so happy to hear you're on the mend.

I hope to be around more. I had surgery two weeks ago and just haven't been up for talking about it yet. I may blog about it on my myspace soon. I'm doing well.

    I missed you guys!

  51. Today was an absolutely beautiful day! 70 degrees and sunny....hard to believe that Wed is calling for snow showers

  52. Hello fellow owls! Just dropping by to wish y'all a fantastic Halloween and I hope the next two weeks brings peace, love, and happiness to all! Too bad I won't be here Friday to enjoy the festivities ... it sounds
    spook-tacular!

Thanks to all who posted well wishes for my trip. Now I GOTTA get back to that last-minute laundry, packing, and cleaning! YH stayed up late pre-posting his blog for the next 14 days. As a result, he woke up late so the little dogs won't go to their sitter until he's off work and, as much as I love my babies and will miss them tremendously, having them underfoot (literally, because they follow me everywhere!) is waxing up the works. Arnie and Sophie kitty will stay here with the house sitter.

    Big hugs to everyone!

  53. Good afternoon Owls.

I'm just doing a fly-by before I run out the door again.

    IBB, congrats on #1.

Zona, be afraid, be vewy afraid...

Goldie, Glad that you are having a speedy recovery.

Sandie, Sorry you had to go through surgery without all your Owl friends to support you. But we are here for you now that we know.

Waving a wing at all the other Owls. I hope you are all having a good day.

  54. Hello....RENEE, you did a great job on your first blog. I love to go to the mountains and see the changing of the colors. I guess I really love everything about fall.

OUTATUNE: Hope your trip is tons of fun!

J/L: It doesn't look like it brought much luck having your son at the 49er game yesterday..those darn Seahawks! :)

TINK: I loved your blog and music yesterday. I always told my husband and parents that I loved them but with my husband passing away so suddenly..I can always think of things to still tell him. I hope today goes well for you.

We had a great weekend with family from Houston here for my daughter's 40th. The party was Saturday night and had a huge turn-out. I think Tammy had a very nice time. We had a family gathering yesterday so my cousin could see all the family, so it was a very busy weekend.

GOLDIE: I am so glad you are feeling better and was able to take a shower today. There is something about a shower that makes things look different. Are you sure you should be going back to work already tomorrow? I think you better call in sick to the "boss". :)

SHIRLEY: I dropped by Owl Manor yesterday but it seemed like everything had locks on it and it looked pretty creepy. Can you enlighten me?

SANDIE: I am sending postive thoughts out to you.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Dianne I have only declared the basement off limits. That's all. Although there is some trip wire around some of the entrances you might want to watch out for. Oh and if you go for any walks in the wood, make sure you stay on the paths...you can get quite a jolt from those electric fences and I wouldn't want you to get tangled in the barbwire. Have a nice day!

  56. Sandie I'm glad you're doing well after your surgery. I wish you a speedy recovery. ((HUGS))

I just sent you an e-mail before reading that you have recently had surgery. I'm sorry that I did not know. I've been so busy these days and I seem to miss a lot. I'm always available if you want someone to talk to. My Dad is on his 4th surgery. Geez!
Goldie I hope you will feel better soon.
Just Lin should we make chicken soup for Lani's computer?
BonO, Brrrr to the 30 degrees. I'd be a human popsicle! I can do 70 degrees though! :)

  58. I have returned from my errands. I also love the fall. I like the idea of getting warm and cozy. You can't do that in the summer. Then it's just hot and sweaty. Although, I must admit, here on the coast of northern Calif. it doesn't really get too hot. In the fall, there are those wonderful colors on the trees, wearing new sweaters, cooking comfort foods. I remember years ago, when my kids were little, my mom was visiting and we all went down the coast to a pumpkin patch. It had been raining the day before, and the ground around here is very clay-like. Anyway, walking around on the wet ground we kept gathering more and more mud on the bottom of our shoes. I swear we were all two inches taller by the time we were ready to leave.

Dreama I don't know if the soup will help the computer but it may make Lani feel better about it.

BonO I'll forward the hugs. She said she's having blog withdrawals. LOL I did offer the use of my computer.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Dreama: I think I know what you mean about the puffed bread. I think they have it at the salad bar too. I will try it, I love new things and the wrap sounds JUST like I would order it!!

Shirley: So, tell me more about these trip wires. *EVIL GRIN*

Renee: Thanks! I hope your weigh in goes great. If all goes well, I will get my flu shot tomorrow. I have had some bummer, depressing, disheartening, crappy, ugg..stuff happening with my CAR! So, this morning besides pulling up my pants, I was blocking school bus traffic and making people angry while my car was stalled at an intersection. Oh Yay, what fun.

SANDIE...I was just asking some people where you were. I am glad your surgery went well. You are brave and such a good mom and one day grandma!

CAROL...hope your dr's appt. was just routine.

  70. Dreama I'm sure I can help you out so that it doesn't "stretch" (ha...get it?) your budget too much. Lol!

    Thanks for the tip Maureen!

  72. I just found my recipe for PUMPKIN BREAD.

  73. Shirley you are hysterical!
    Ok, back to DWTS!

  75. Here is the recipe for my roasted pumpkin seeds. They make a great snack and everyone loves them.

Take all the pumpkin seeds out of the pumpkin and rinse them thoroughly until they are clean. Get a paper plate with a paper towel on it and put the well rinsed pumpkin seeds on it. Microwave for 45-60 seconds. Seeds will be hot so be careful but scrape them off the papertowel and onto a greased cookie sheet. I grease the cookie sheet with pam spray or Olive oil spray. Sprinkle with Tones Rosemary Garlic seasoning and salt. Bake in the oven until golden brown. After approximately 10-15 minutes, open the oven and re-spray them with the cooking spray and re-sprinkle them with the salt and rosemary garlic seasoning.

They should be pretty golden brown before you take them out. They are great for a snack!

  76. Thank you all so much. You guys are the best!

There were many times I wanted to tell you my surgery plans but then we had owls who needed our prayers and I felt sort of guilty since my surgery was self-imposed! I don't know if that makes any sense but I just didn't want to take away from the owls who were having some hard times. I guess you can tell I'm sort of uncomfortable being in the spotlight.

Anyway, thank you all so much for being here for me. Your comments have made me feel so special. I really missed the nest and even thought about you guys while I was in the hospital! I remember waking one night (actually being awoken by the nurse to take my vitals) and thinking, "oh my gosh, I have to let the owls know I didn't die!" LOL

Big, giant hugs to all of you. I did write a blog on myspace and I feel so much better!

Thank you Sacbarb, Dianne, Shirley, Dreama, Just_Lin, Bebbi, Goldie, Maureen, and Lynn for your kind comments. And thanks to all those who commented on myspace.

  120. Ronnie:

    ReplyDelete
  121. LOL, Carol!

Just as long as Shirley doesn't try to do any serious stretching on friday. I'm sure there would be complaints from many a SO, or SSO.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Tina:
My dad does that to me all the time... when he is downstairs he calls me on the phone... I can't hang up tho :O(

    ReplyDelete
  123. WOW, I'd like to see the Customer Service Department for that.

"Have you got anything in a smaller size?"

Well i will tell ya this... And this the truth...

My friend had a vagina lift, yep plastic surgery, never thought they could do that but they did, she did not like hers, she said it sagged..Huh...

  132. Sandie: Don't worry about the limelight! Hugs and support!

Renee Eve: I think my favorite fall "outing" was Halloween in the small town where I grew up! Almost every house had a garden, and quite a few had a crop of rotting tomatoes just waiting to be scooped up and utilized for dastardly, nefarious, and totally FUN purposes!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Food and fall, could this post be any more my favorite?! I always make corn bread with chili. My favorite fall activity is going to the haunted corn maze. My old man screams like a girl through the whole thing. The kids and I just laugh at him.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes a couple of posts ago. Life here has been a bit insane since my last visit. I'll spare you the details. :)

It was so nice to see so many familiar names. So many of you just seemingly vanished. It's nice to reconnect again.

Bebbi that is great since Aug.? WOW go you!!

Sandi & Goldie, I am glad you are both on the mend. :)
