My First Love

by Tina~in_ut

OMG!!!! I loved Shaun Cassidy when I was a teen. I had over 1000 pictures of him on my wall. I would take pictures of my pictures! I watched every episode of the Hardy Boys. My favorite was when Joe was going to marry Jamie and the day before they were to get married, there was a car accident and she died. I cried…….I felt so sorry for my Shaun! (as if it was all real!) I even found the episode on youtube while looking for this video. he-he….I’m watching it while I write this!!!! I was so sad when the show ended.

I loved Shaun’s music too. I bought every album. Well, okay…..my parents bought them….but you know what I mean! My cousin and I made up a dance routine to this song. We still remember parts of it and sometimes perform it for relatives…and no….there is no alcohol involved!!!

I bought every Tiger Beat magazine that he was in….well…..where did you think I got all those pictures? My parents gave me a Shaun Cassidy birthday one year…..Shaun cake, Shaun pin, Shaun doll (yes, for real!), and the Hardy Boys Van! Oh how I loved that!

And then there was the Shaun Cassidy concert. I thought I died and went to Heaven! Actually, I did. I screamed so much and sang every song and dreamed one day of becoming Mrs. Shaun Cassidy. (uh…for those of you who are not aware…that didn’t work out so well!)

I still keep up with his career. He has been on Broadway and writes and produces for television. I still think he’s a cutie and he still makes me smile.

  1. Ah ha! Count 'em up Scirish and Lynn_D, Lois is coming on strong with her...let me see here...counting... second time in first place... wait a tic, how many more times do I have to blog stalk before I catch up to you two? LOL!

    Good morning everyone!

  2. Tina, I respectfully request a video of your dance routine. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

Oh he was a hot piece of ass back in the day. I mean, he was soooooo dreamy! :D

  3. Good Morning!

TINA: My sister loved Shaun Cassidy too. She had posters of him on her bedroom walls, and played "Da Doo Ron Ron" over and over and over again.

I remember watching "The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries"..I'm gonna trust my memory(probably a mistake) and say the show was on Saturday evenings.

I actually liked David Cassidy better..but that might be cuz I'm so much older than you. ;)

I was also madly in love with Jay Osmond. My folks bought me Tiger Beat and 16 magazines each month..and every special issue that came out in between. Only one problem..damn those staples, they ruined many a centerfold of Jay!! ;)

    Great blog TINA...great memories!!

  4. LL/NN: Congrats on swoopin' into FIRST...I second the request to see TINA's dance routine!

I slept in this morning! I actually had a full nights sleep.

Congrats on first Lois, but you are woefully behind! hehehehe

Scrishy the duel continues another day. Bwahhhahhahh

Ok I was never one who put up posters of teen heart throbs. My cousins did and so did my friends but I was not really into it.

I think my first love of a celebrity type was when I was about 7 or 8. This is weird but I was in love with Tom Jones. Yep the singer. Don't know why really, but I did love to hear him sing.

When I got older and worked in the movie theaters we would get promo stills for different movies and I did put pictures of Al Pacino and Dustin Hoffman in my locker in high school.

Like Zona I liked David Cassidy better. Shaun was cute in a little boy way. No offense Tina!

    Splitting post.

I told Tina the same thing when she sent me the blog..

I was a David fan, however I am older... and also being older than her I required the utmost respect.

  11. Thanks for everyones comments in area 51 on my radio story! I thought I was losing my mind. LOL

You guys cracked me up. I still don't know if Weirdo guy was pulling their chain or not. Mr. Lynn D came home last night and started to tell me who they were listening to on the radio on the way home and you guessed it! Ron and Don. He is not sure if the guy was a hoaxter or if he was serious either.

Mr. Lynn D did ask me if I was up for the new programming on PBS?? Smart Ass!

  16. MEK: I forgot all about Bobby Sherman..."Julie Julie Julie...do ya love me..." oh my.. :)

LYNND: My aunt saw Tom Jones in concert and just raved about him. I still have the program...1971!!

GOLDIE: LOL..but you ARE such a sweetie!! Maybe you should have a brownie for breakfast!! ;)

CPGEM: What was Donny's fave color..do you remember? Jay's was green!

  17. Zona: Don't know what it was about Tom but even at 7 or 8 I could tell he was a devil! LOL

goldie you are a sweetie. If they get out of hand wave the middle turkey claw at them! hehehehe

Hi Carol! I can see we are going to split lines here today. The Shaun Cassidy fans and the David Cassidy fans!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Congrats on your second first, Lois! You're in the race! LOL

Tina, I loved Donny Osmond the way you loved Shaun Cassidy. I had posters all over my room and kissed them every night. I just knew I would marry him one day. It didn't work out so well for me, either!

Now my daughter loves Joe Jonas and has posters all over her room. It's so cute.

Just_Lin, I read your blog yesterday but didn't get to read the comments. I grew up with a Dad who smoked (he finally quit 11 years ago) and I hated the smell, the look and everything about it. It is most certainly what made me not want to ever even try a cigarette. Good for you for quitting, J/L!!

I'm just stopping in quickly. I have lots of company!! I'm so enjoying my nephews' babies--they are sooooo cute!! I'm trying to take pictures and will put them on myspace when I can.

I miss you guys! My company will be here until the weekend so I'll stop in when I can.

    Happy Thanksgiving!!!

  19. Ok...I'm NOT going to Google this, let's see how close I get...

    Da Doo Ron Ron

"I met her on a Monday and my heart stood still...da doo ron ron ron..da doo ron ron..
Somebody told me that her name was Jill...da doo ron ron ron..da doo ron ron..
    Yes..my heart stood still..
    Yes..her name was Jill..
    And..as I walked her home..
Da doo ron ron ron..da doo ron ron.."

I don't think I'll tax my unreliable memory with any more.

    So TINA...How'd I do?? :)

Everyone have a great day...I'm going to be singing this song for most of it! :D

    ReplyDelete
  20. LYNND: I still love Tom Jones! I even have the DVD's of his 70's variety show. It's all my aunt's fault! ;)

    HI SANDIE!

  21. Good morning, Lois!

My first real bona fide celebrity crush was with pro wrestler Arn Anderson in the lat 1990's!

I even went so far as to go to a wrestling match at the Cow Palace just to try and see him!

It's funny, though. I don't remember ever seeing Arn in Tiger Beat or Fave or 16 magazine when I was growing up.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Didn't Shaun end up having a torrid affair with Jimmy Osmond?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Nice Swoop!!! Lois...lol.

I loved LOVED LOVED Shaun Cassidy when I was a teenager. I went to his concert and I bought all the Tiger Beats too.

I had a chance to meet him in the the Stouffer Hotel in Houston Texas. His star was dimming (not in my eyes) but he had quite the entourage of people with him. And, he was pretty snooty and not at all friendly. My thought then was that if he acted that way, he would definitely be a has been. He was not gracious or kind, he was very full of his stardom.

I still love the memory of that crush. I don't know if you remember Tony DeFranco? I loved him too. Those were my two big crushes when I was a tween.

Thanks for the memories Tina. Now I am off to run errands and buy groceries and all that fun stuff.

  24. Good Morning Everyone.

    Congrats on being First Lois.

When my daughter was 12 she adored Shaun Cassidy and she still treasures his first album.
When I was a young teenager I didn't have any contact with movie magazines or movies starring any young stars so my first celebrity crush wasn't until I was 18 and Elvis starred in his first movie "Love Me Tender". I thought he was the greatest thing since "slice bread". I saw the movie with friends but the theatre was filled with young girls. Every time his face was shown the girls screamed. I never knew the plot of the movie until I bought the video years later. Of course as all owls know, I still love him.

I have a very busy morning with bank business, post office and going to the Doctor.

I will be back this afternoon. Have a great day.

  26. Happy Tuesday hooters!

Congrats to Lois this morning, the Scirish/Lynn D smackdown for first has been interrupted!

Tina, I love your blog topic!

I loved the 2 brothers in the Cowsills, does anyone remember them? They were a singing family, the mom, sister and brothers.

I also loved Bobby Sherman! I remember when we'd go to LA, I wanted to try to find him. I used to know what city he lived in and remember begging my dad to go there!

I seem reading that he is a paramedic in the LA area.

We are finally having "normal" November weather, it's chilly and overcast. We've been having mid-upper 70s til a couple days ago.

    Whab, how's your knob? LOL

Sorry, I'm still on the knob thing!

    ReplyDelete
  27. NO NEWZ - Congrats on first!!! Oh, and to answer your question in area 51.....I awoke with a HUGE hot flash!!! I sleep with an ice pack often!!

TINA - Great blog!! Shaun was ok....but my first love was Donny Osmond!!! I just found a box of Tiger Beat mags in my Dad's attic!!! Oh, my freakin' hell....it was a hoot to look back on all that!!

ZONA - I know the answer to your question.....same as my Mother's favorite color!!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. TINA - I must agree....we REALLY need to see video of you doing your dance routine!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Well crap in a cookie jar! My real comment just vanished, poof!

Tink, thanks. Swooping in first thing felt good, very eagle-esq.

However, as Lynn_D mentioned, my behind is woeful, and I doubt my "sorry ass" can catchup. Is it too early in the race to concede?

Still am not sure when we are leaving for Missouri. So if I don't see you before then, have a happy Thanksgiving, all of you beautiful owls!!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. LL/NoNewz Woo hoo!!! You have slipped into the race. Yes, you are far behind, kind of like the Ralph Nader of the past elections.

Tina Fun blog but not as fun as seeing a video of your special dance. Come on! Pleeeeeeze!!!!!

You guys are babies! When I was a tween, the guy that made me feel all mushy inside was non other than Elvis! There had never been anyone quite like him. Talk about sexy! Even a tween recognized it even if she didn't know what to call it. Man, he was good looking! Right Tinka? There used to be bubble gum cards with pictures of Elvis. I had a huge collection which I had taped all over the inside of my closet doors. And of course I cut out pics from the teen magazines, too.

  31. Good Afternoon Everyone!

I have been MIA for a couple days, due to lots of errands, watching grandkids, and just Olive time!

Olive got her first Grooming yesterday and she looks like a different doggie!

The Groomer says she is NOT a Poodle/Maltese mix. She has Maltese dogs. She says she looks and acts much more like a Bichon/Poodle. We looked them up on line, and yep, now that Olive is all cleaned up that is what she is! They also said these dogs are specially bred that way and that females can cost around $750!!

I am afraid someone lost her, because she hadn't been spayed yet, and was probably going to be bred. I feel very sorry for whoever lost her, but am so happy we got her! She is still such a sweet, gentle doggie. I'll be taking more pictures of her soon, and put one up as my avatar.

My first real teenage crush was between Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones, and Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys! Unfortunately, they both died of drug overdoses. Just goes to show you my taste in Rock Stars sucks!

ZONA~ I didn't Google either, but I think Da Do Ron Ron Ron was by Ronnie and the Ronettes (of Phil Spector fame) and actually the guys name was Bill! I could be wrong, I usually am!!

Hope you all have a great Tuesday before Turkey Day. Tomorrow will be crazy around here. My family from Sacramento are coming, and I need to finish up so many chores!!

On Friday we are all going to the new California Academy of Sciences Museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.
Here is the website if any want to check it out:

It is supposed to be FANTASTIC! A Rainforest, a huge aquarium with a gorgeous Coral Reef and many exotic animals. My SIL from Sacramento is very into Corals and Salt Water Fish and aquariums, and belongs to many Coral & Salt Water Clubs, and one of his Club buddies helped to design the Coral Reef Exhibit, so he is giving us a "behind the scene" tour! Should be interesting.

    Have a terrific day everyone!

Peace and Love to all, Donna Jean

  40. J/LIN: Do you remember "Chu-Bops"?? They were little record shaped bubblegum inside reprints of actual record albums. I had the whole Elvis set. They were shrink wrapped and I never opened them. About 6 months ago I found them in a foot locker in the garage...covered with ants. I was so freakin' upset! Yep..had to throw them out..but don't think I didn't try to figure out a way to save them! ;)

DJ: I'm glad you were able to get a dog for Laurie Elizabeth! I know you've been thinking about it for quite a while.

    ReplyDelete
  41. TINA: I'm glad the words were right..or what the heck have I been singing all day?? LOL..

    Purple it is!!!

    Red for Merrill
    Blue for Alan
    Orange for Wayne

    Ok..I'm a geek.. :D

  42. Zona No, I don't remember those. Maybe I was past my Elvis phase by then. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. J/LIN: LOL..it was in the early 80's...so you might have been! :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. ZONA~ Yes, we are so very fortunate to have found Olive! Miss Laurie is in love with her! Olive isn't too in love with her though, yet! she definitely gravitates to me more, since I am the "caregiver"! Soon, though, I am sure she will warm up to Laurie more.

Laurie tries to give her treats, but is nervous, and I think Olive senses that.

Oh, and in regards to your Song Lyric, I didn't realize Shaun Cassidy re-recorded it with a GIRL'S name! See, sweetie I am such a child of the 50's & 60's NOT the early 80's!!! I was an old married lady then, with three daughters and a family to take care of, not run after "Teen Hearthrobs", LOL

But, then again, I am still in Lust with JBJ, along with many other Owlette/Cougars!!

Here are the lyrics, to the Original Version, from the 60's!

I met him on a Monday and my heart stood still
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Somebody told me that his name was Bill
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, my heart stood still, yeah, his name was Bill
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do
    ron ron
I know what he was thinking when he caught my eye
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
He looked so quiet but, my oh my
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, he caught my eye, yeah but my oh my
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do
    ron ron
He picked me at seven and he looked so fine
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Someday soon I'm gonna make him mine
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Yeah, he looked so fine, yeah I'll make him mine
And when he walked me home, da do ron ron ron, da do
    ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron
Da do ron ron ron, da do ron ron

JODI~ No, I haven't had a chance yet to make the Apple Crisp, but I will, soon! It just sounds soooo yummy! Thank you again for the recipe!

  63. I am happy to be home. It was a busy day but I did buy some Christmas presents. I bought my daughters USB Recordable Turntables so they can turn their Shaun Cassidy etc. records into C.D.'s. Does anyone have this? Does it work and is it worth it? It is supposed to cut out all the noises from the records.
I have all the Elvis songs he ever made on C.D. now but I wouldn't mind putting some Glen Campbell or Johnny Cash songs from vinyl onto C.D. I may be borrowing them.

I made it to the post office. Zona check your mail box in about two weeks. Mail is taken by a very slow boat from here to the States I think.

Donna Jean - When you sent me the pictures, I thought Olive had Bichon in her but I am not an expert so I didn't say. Send me a picture please after she is groomed. I would love to see her all 'dollied' up.

Tina and Zona - Is my love of Elvis that obvious? I thought I was subtle about it. LOL

VIG- No more texting for you or we will never make it to Hawaii with Zona to see K-Girl.

I am off for a rest. I didn't get my nap today so I am having trouble sitting here. See you all later.

Tink...saving my pennies! Let's keep the Hawaii dream alive!

Tina..excellent blog!!!! I wanted to put up posters of Bobby and David, but my brothers always teased me endlessly, took down the posters and put up the Rolling Stones. I love Mick but he just wasn't the one to crush on at 12 years old. My hippie brother used to put up posters for me of Gandhi!!! I love Gandhi, but he also was not the one to crush on at 12 years old!!!

  73. HI Everyone! I had a very busy day. I finished cleaning the Dining room-spic and span, went to two grocery stores to get the best deals, cleaned the chairs, did a load of laundry, did the dishes, dumped water from the cleaning all over the floor by accident, dumped packing peanuts all over the floor by accident while trying to get a box clear to put away the old curtains (not at the same time as the water, thank goodness, took the dogs for a walk, picked up my son from U of L so he wouldn't have to ride the bus, made dinner, got gas in the van (1.51!!!! a gallon..woo hoo), went to the bank, took groceries over to my sisters, and took bags back to my mom. I am super pooped! Tomorrow = mop kitchen floor, clean up living room, make desserts, and do more laundry.

I hope everyone had a great day.

  75. No Newz...we are tied at two at coming in second at first...or whatever!!

Now I am going to really date myself but my teen crushes were on Fabian and Ricky Nelson. I had pictures of them in my room. Most of you probably don't even remember them. Not only did we get to hear Ricky sing but we were able to see him on the Ozzie and Harriet show each week!

LYNND and ZONA: I saw a show with Tom Jones about 6 six years ago in Vegas and he was pretty darn good. There was just a big article about him in the Parade magazine this past Sunday. He has been married to the same person his whole life. I think he is 68 now!

TINA: I would love to see the video of you. Is it like that video that used to be on the internet of dancing babies?

ZONA: I wouldn't be doing the bee-bop too much as you know how you fall kind of easily.

Well, I did all my congratulations to the Raider people> I can hardly wait to see how we play the Jets this week..not! JODI, do you still wear that orange shirt on Sunday? I have a funny story to tell from the news. I guess three Bronco fans made it down on the field after the game Sunday and one was shown stomping on the Bronco logo. The coach last night said that guy was an "idiot" and he wished one of the team players would have run over him and then he said "but then we would have a lawsuit."

Almost time for DWTS here. I can't pick a winner this time as I like all three of them. See ya' later.

  76. J/L: I loved and still do love Johnny Mathis. I have seen him in concert too and the last time it was his 70th birthday. I just heard him on the radio today singing a Christmas song...sigh!

  77. MEK.........

    MICKEY!!!!! :P

CPGEM: When he feels better..let the real bee-boppin' begin! :D

    JODI: Really...Redi-whip..lol..

    MEK2: LOL @ 69 degrees...as TINA would say.. ahhhhhhhhhhhh.. ;)

  78. DIANNE: I know I know...but it's worth the risk to be able to bee-bop...

Tom Jones may be 68..but he's still hot! Yummm... ;)

  79. ZONA: Just don't be doing any of that sock sliding you like to do. Is it like Risky Business? Do you do that in your underwear/thong?

    ReplyDelete
  80. DIANNE: LOL...goof...sock sliding is done in clothes..cuz I sure as heck don't want anyone to find me in my underwear if should happen to fall and bonk my head... ;)

  81. DIANNE: Like I would fall....HA!! ;)

  82. WOW, Tina...tried to go waaaay back to remember the first pre-preteen media crush...I think Bobby Sherman came after little Johnny Crawford (Mousekateer and son of The Rifleman). By teen-mag wall-poster age, after my older cousin had pulled out all the Elvis photos, I was thrilled to cover my walls with Fabian! But full-on idol worship was reserved for George Maharis on Route 66, and Little Joe Cartwright (Michael Landon) playing a close second. Never got into the family-band boys.

  84. Hey, Dianne...just saw your mention of Fabian. Too bad his voice wasn't quite as 'hot' as his look, huh? And I, too, will always love the romance of Johnny Mathis...always thought his looks were perfect for radio, though.

I'd love to chat with a shrink one day about why so many of the men I have found attractive over the years are all gay...George Maharis, Rod McKuen, Richard Chamberlain, George Michael...the list goes on...

    ReplyDelete
  85. George Maharis is gay???!! Man....he was another cutie. Of course I remember, Fabian and Ricky, too.

  87. BON'O: Fabian! Johnny Crawford! George Maharis! Oh my...I know who all these guys are! LOL...

Sorry for the delete...somehow all that bee-boppin' had me confused!

  88. lol @ Zona~~~I just did a Google image search on George Maharis...he may be 80 now, but those pictures are still to die for...think I need to check out some old Route 66 episodes on YouTube tonight! Wish I could find the one I watched them film in Astoria back around 1962. I was in Heaven!! By the way, I had two of his albums. That Greek god could sing, too!

  89. I was also in love with Mr. Cassidy. I remember getting his album for Christmas and thinking life doesn't get any better then this!

  90. BEBBI~ Oh your day sounded like mine yesterday! WHY do we try so much to be perfect, when no one really cares, and just when we think we have gotten eveything under control something s**** happens! That happened to me last night. Too much multi-tasking, and I broke one of my favorite pie dishes (actually, crashed, split, shattered, sprinkled, into every place in my kitchen and dining area)!

You know what, my sweet Owls, I am sick and tired of rushing around, cleaning (which I do normally, but not quite as obsessive), doing all the stuff to make people look at my house for a few quick 5 minutes (at the most) before all chaos starts, what with kids, adults, pets ect, and then its free for all! (No one does a White Glove Inspection, and if they did I would slap their hands)!

This year I must admit I bought a Ready To Heat & Eat Turkey Dinner from Safeway.

But, we are only using the Turkey. I am saving the mashed potatoes and stuffing for my Leftover Turkey Shepherd's Pie.

The older daughters are making from scratch the basics. THANK GOD! I have bought this Turkey dinner in the past, and the turkey is Delicious! Plus, I got a Honey Sliced Ham!

Miss Laurie and I will make the traditional Green Bean Casserole, because this is Laurie's FAVORITE dish for Thanksgiving, and it is so easy, she makes it practicaly by herself. And this year I found the best frozen French Green Beans at Trader Joes, so no snapping! Just boil the water and simmer for about 5 minutes.

I think this might just be the eesiest dinner I have ever had the pleasure of making/eating this Turkey Day!

For all of you who are doing the "TRADITIONAL" cooking, my heart is with you, girlfriends!!!

Talk to all of you on the worst day of the week, "Wednesday before Thanksgiving"

Peace, Love and Thank You Carol for a Wonderful Year on the Owl's Nest!

Donna Jean, Laurie Elizabeth & Olive

PS: oh forgot to mention it also came with Pumpkin Pie AND the BEST Cranberry Sauce (better than my own)

  91. Donna Jean: Yes, it has been quite hectic and I changed curtains and really cleaned the dining room (which needed a good cleaning). I am glad that I had the extra days off. My daughter wanted a traditional Thanksgiving so much, she is coming tomorrow to help me so it will be much better tomorrow. The house smells really clean though..lol. I like that.

Tomorrow won't be too bad. We are making the Weight Watchers recipe of pumpkin pie (not sure if it really WW, but that is where we heard about it). Also, we are making an apple pie. My daughter is making Pierogi's and my son insists I make my yeast rolls. So it will be all out. It is a lot of fun though..watching the parade, smelling the celery, onion, etc. cooking for the dressing. Yummmm....

Donna Jean - we did the Safeway dinner one year and I swear we used more pots and pans trying to heat all that stuff up as we would have it we had just made it from scratch.......

  102. MEK~ If you are still up, yes it is better to heat the mashed potatoes and stuffing in the oven, much tastier, but not so bad, just transfer them to a casserole dish or two, and the turkey is so easy!

I guess, my vision is different than yours!

I have done this for about 4 years. Sometimes I buy two at a time just so I can have another Turkey dinner later in the season!

I have done the "traditional" turkey way too many times.

I am so tired of the thawing, rinsing, drying, rinsing, drying, and did I mention rinsing & drying?

Not to mention the "new" ways of roasting a turkey. The brining for 24 hours in a cooler(god forbid it is the one you used this summer, make sure the sand is all gone).

The fancy "Martha Stewart" marinating with the insiduous injections of some kind of wonderful olive oil and other gourmet ingredients.

Then there is the "DRY RUB" method. Duh, no butter to baste??

After that comes the "Guy Is Going To Cook The Turkey" method, Deep Frying!!

Please keep your phone handy to call 911!!

Of course, I am just saying all this in jest!

I am sure you will all cook your bird beautifully, & your family will hopefully be all together, with peace and harmony.

I so just love you all.

I am also thankful for each and every one of you for all your humor, encouragment, support, and just your every day lives that you have shared this past year!

May Peace, Love, and Happiness be with each and every one of you, (and also to those that no longer post, but may be reading),

Donna Jean, Laurie Elizabeth, & Olive

PS: I know I am posting this on West Coast Time, and most of my Lovely Owls are Nesting, so I do hope you all will read this some time before Thanksgiving Day!
