Appetizers

by Iteach

As of yet, I have not met an appetizer that I don't like!

spicy meatballs
cucumber sandwiches
wings of all sorts
dips of all kinds
anything with cream cheese

You name it, I love it.

I rather cook appetizers then a main dish. My mouth is just watering right now with the thought of making them. It is heavy on my mind right due to the holiday season. We have numerous Christmas parties to attend and with some of them I need to bring a snack.

This year I'm in a Martha Stewartish mood and I want to bring something new. So what do you think everyone? What is your favorite and do you have any recipe's to share?

P.S. I am secretly hoping Shirley will pop by with an appetizer menu for us. :) If you do, Shirley, I promise to clean up later.

  4. Iteach- great blog. I'm with you- I woul rather eat appetizers than a main meal.

Good Morning Hooters! A fine snowy miserable shoveling day here in WI. All schools are close (even the city of Madison, which NEVER happens. So I am staying put and work can do itself today!

JODI- hope you are safely at home or if not, soon!!

I will have to think of some appetizers to share- but I am really looking forward to others sharing too!!

  5. Iteach....Oh yes! Who needs a meal when you can have appetizers?

    Favs include:

    Taco Salad Dip
    Jalapeno Nacho Dip
Jalapeno Mint jelly (it's good, I swear)
    Butterflies

I'm sure there are more, but I haven't had coffee yet!

  6. Good morning Goldie and Scirish!

Congrats again Scirish on 1st! Looks like you are leaving Lynn D in the dust! Lol!

Iteach I will find you some great appetizers but it will have to be later today. Right now I have to go take a couple tax exams (basic and advanced)to qualify me to work next year. BBL.

  11. Morning Glories!

    Congrats Scrishy!

Goldie you have to be much faster than that! In the time it took you to write that message to scrishy in area 51 she was already stealing first! LOL

Iteach appetizers, love them I am another one who can make a meal of just appetizers!

An easy one is cream cheese on crackers with the Jalapeno Jelly. I swear Goldie and I are the same person sometimes.

Also softened cream cheese in a nice bowl with cocktail sauce and baby shrimp over the top another one great with crackers.

When we are invited and have to bring something I buy a sourdough round of bread, cut the top off and scoop out some of the innards. Then I fill the bowl with spinch dip or artichoke dip. The extra bread I then slice into bite size pieces for dipping.

Those are a few I can think of right now maybe more will come to me later.

  12. Goldie...Goo morning actually sounds appropriate...weather wise anyway..No caffeine? Blasphemy!! I wonder if it will cancel out the muscle relaxers tho?

    ReplyDelete
  13. oops not awake yet. It was scrishy who likes the Jalapeno Jelly! Another sibling seperated at birth! LOL

  14. Lynndeeeeeeeee? There you are..Feeling any better?

  15. Hi Shirley! Good luck on the tests! Don't worry about me I may be behind now but I am slow and steady and will eventually get the job done! Hehehehe

Goldie they are talking possible snow here this weekend! I am sure nothing like what you and Hodi are getting!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Scrishy, I am feeling a little better today. Yay! But I have so much to do from not feeling good that I am going to be a busy one today.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lynndeeeee....I know what you mean...I was just getting caught up and really threw my back out yesterday...right before I started laundry...I can hear it multiplying in the cellar.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lynn- I am sure we are related somehow!
I make the bread bowl dip thing too but I do- 8oz sour cream
    8 oz mayo
2 small pkgs. dried beef chopped up
Beau Monde seasoning to taste. I am guessing about a tblsp.
    Chopped green onions.

Mix all and let sit overnight.

Let it snow let it snow let snow. My dog is as happy as a pig in shit out there. I on the other hand am as happy as a pig in shit in here!

  19. Well here is a small rant!

Just went to take Mr. Lynn D to his ride share and he was running late. After he threw a fit and could not find his other shoe tore apart our closet looking for it, and then being pissed when we got behind a school bus, he missed the ride. Somehow I am supposed to be all happy about cleaning up the freaking mess he made. Boy I let him have it! I am leaving the shoe mess for him when he gets home.

I am not his mother and he should not wait until the last damn minute to get ready.

    ___________________________________

    Ok I feel better now.

Scrishy hope your back feels better soon. I have stacks of laundry also because I just did not feel well enough to keep up with it.

Goldie you do way more than I do for the bread bowl. I go to safeway and buy the dip add a few extra spices usually dill and there you go! LOL

Ok I need to get something done while I am still mad. I get more done that way.

    ReplyDelete
  20. The Bread Bowl seems to be the winner so far....I do it also, but with a Dill dip.

    I'm hungry!

  21. Lynndeeee...I think your new prescription is giving you mind reading skills....

  25. fudge??? Oh, yummy......

It is snowing like crazy now. Kinda nice to be playing hookey and sitting here watching it though.

Mr. Goldie is home too- we cancelled all his appointments for today yesterday, since we knew it was coming. I think we will have a fire this afternoon and Jodi gave me the idea of chili for dinner. Thinking that sounds like a winner!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Congrats on first, Scirish!

iteach, I love appetizers! I think it's because it's more fun to eat a bit of everything instead of a lot of one big meal.

Goldie and Jodi, kinda glad I'm in Georgia right now! Be careful out there!

    Glad you're feeling better, LynnD!

Hi Shirley! Good luck on your test!

    Hi MEK!

Here's my favorite that I bring everywhere and it's always a big hit (and couldn't be easier!).

    Texas Caviar
1 can (15oz) black beans, drained
1 can (15oz) blackeye peas, drained
1 can (11oz) shoepeg corn, drained
    3 scallions, chopped
    1 jar (16oz) salsa
    1/2 tsp cumin
    s & p to taste

Combine all ingredients and chill at least two hours. Serve with tortilla chips and Fritos Scoops.

    Another favorite:

    Hot Reuben Spread
1/2 lb. deli corned beef, sliced thin
1 (160z) can sauerkraut, drained, washed and patted dry w/paper towels
    2 cups shredded swiss cheese
    1/2 cup mayo
    2 tsp dijon mustard

Mix all ingredients together. Place in baking dish and bake at 350 for 10 min. Serve w/sliced baguettes and party rye.

  28. Good Morning to all 'the usual suspects'!! It's always so nice to see you all here over that first cuppa each day :~)

    YUMMM, ITEACH~~My favorite appetizers are:

*Costco's Stonemill Kitchens Artichoke & Jalapeno Parmesan Cheese Dip in or on almost anything
    *Stuffed Mushrooms
    *Mini-Quiches
    *PotStickers w/ soy-ginger dipping sauce
    *Fiesta nachos

    and roll-up pinwheels made from:
~paper-thin sliced Cajun roast beef, slathered with-
~(favorite flavored) cream cheese, wrapped around-
    ~sweet baby gherkin pickles.

Chill well; then slice into thin pinwheels.

*and who can result that yummy old stand-by, deviled eggs?

    Off to a busy day...Stay warm, y'all!

  29. Good Morning!

ITEACH: Awwww maaaaan..now I'm hungry!! I was at Sam's Club yesterday and they have aisle after aisle of amazing appetizers. I like anything wrapped in phyllo dough. I may be the only one on the planet..this is my sister's assessment..but I don't like deli spirals. I don't know why. Give me a meatball on a toothpick instead!! ;)

Thanks for the yummy blog ITEACH!!

  31. Scirish~ congrats on first~

    LynnD~ you're cracking me up~

    Goldie~ i think scrishy was tricking you~

Sandie~ i have a dip recipe close to yours......take out the salsa, add avocado and cilantro....yummy!!!!!

iteach~ We are having team meetings at work today! I didn't get the memo.....but we are having a "finger foods" potluck!!! My favorite! I'm a little partial to salami and cream cheese/onion dip and chips/guacamole and chips~

    ReplyDelete
  32. Good day, night owls!

iteach~ I love appetizers too! We don't do too many fancy things around here. My favorite is always the mini sausages in a crock pot. I use BBQ sauce and sometimes pineapple bits. They never last long.

Goldi~ Goo morning to you too lol!
We are having a "goo" morning here, actually it's more like a gooey, slushy, cold, & damp day here. I think I even feel colder when I see you in your "outfit"!

Scirish~I don't (gasp, lol ) drink coffee! I do imbibe in a coke once in a while when I need a "boost".

    LynnD~ I feel your pain!!!

    MEK~ Pass the fudge please!
I know what you mean on the "scary trays". We had our VFW Aux. Christmas party last night. I did not recognize a few items on the table, but kinda had to take, do to the happy smiles around me lol!
I had to slyly hide a few things on my plate and quickly dispose of it.

Scirish #2 LOL at your "laundry multiplying"!

  33. Happy Tuesday Owls.

Iteach, I love appetizers too. When we go out to eat to a place that has an appetizer sampler, I will usually order that for my entree.

I used to make an appetizer with refrigerated crescent rolls and Vienna sausages. Cut the rolls in half lengthwise, then roll around the sausage and bake as directed on package. You can also put cheese in with the sausage and/or put mustard or any other spread. They are best served hot, but they are good when they cool off, too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Scirish, congrats on #1. Sorry your back is acting up again.

Goldie, Stew is always a good cold weather meal, too.

IBB, Just exactly what did you let Mr. IBB have, and in front of a friend, too??

Sandie, those both sound delish, but what is shoepeg corn?

Tina, so you don't have anything to contribute to the pot luck? Does that mean you can't eat?

    MEK, I have fudge!

Zona, I love going to Costco when they have all those people cooking samples of stuff they want you to buy. I stay there for hours and just graze.

Waving a wing at all the other Owls. I hope you all have a good day.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Zona

    Butterflies:

Slice of toasted bread (Rye is very good)
Slice of cheese on a diagonal
    Sliced Tomatoes
    Gourmet (or reg) hot dog
Fold the bread, insert a toothpick
    Broil until the Cheese melts

    Yum!

  37. Mornin' Hooters!

scirish Congrats on #1! I'm so sorry about your back. I hope things improve soon. (((HUGS)))

iteach Appetizers are so much fun, aren't they? At least to eat, they are. My kids would disown me if I didn't make deviled eggs. I also do the cream cheese with jalapeno jelly. We usually have something with shrimp and cocktail sauce. I love the little appetizer quiches you can get in the frozen food section. My husband used to make a crab ring that was delish. I love the spinach dip in a bread bowl but have never made it myself. Maybe I'll do that this year.

I did one exam today and we will do the other one tomorrow. They are open book exams so we just have to answer 15 questions and then do a tax return. Thanks for the good luck Scirish, Goldie, Lynn D, Mek, Sandie and Zona. I appreciate it. ((HUGS))

    ReplyDelete
  41. Mek I'm not sure I have ever heard anyone react to McDonalds like that before. Do you need a cigarette? Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  42. thanks for the link Shirley!

I am having a big gathering the saturday after Xmas and was looking for some good new recipes.

It stopped snowing, we paid off the neighbor kids to shovel (heavy, heavy stuff!) about 6-7 inches of snow. Now its just supposed to be blowing and drifting. Not bad if you live in town.

We are heading out to Target. Mr. Goldie driving his 4-wheel drive and its not that far. I need misc. stuff and its not going to be nearly as croweded as if I wait until after work or the weekend.

MEK- so glad you got your Mickey D fix!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Sacbarb, I make that little piggies in blankets appetizer, too! Only I use the little smokies hotdogs and put Parmesan cheese and dijon mustard in the little crescent wrap. Shoepeg corn comes in a little corn can. It's sweeter corn, I think, sort of like white corn.

Tina, I'll have to try switching it up like that!

MEK, you're cracking me up! Who knew McDonald's could bring such pleasure??!! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  44. Hi hooters,

Yum, appetizers! I think my favorite are chips and salsa, or nachos.

Something I used to make that was tasty and easy is similar to SacBarbs, using crescent rolls.

Brown 1 lb of hamburger. When done, add a package of onion soup mix. Cook a little longer.

You can add some shredded cheese at this point, I used sharp cheddar.

Take a package of crescent rolss and slice down the middle (you will have 2 kinda long triangles).

Place a spoonful of the hamburger mixture at the fat end, then roll.

Pop in the oven (can't remember the temp) til brown. Serve warm, out of the oven!

MR. EBJ's specialty is guacamole dip, he is always asked to make it when we are invited somewhere!

I don't like it, so he doesn't make it at home too much, unless we are having company.

A couple years ago we were on a cruise, and one of the restaurants served the cut-out bread, only had cream of mushroom soup inside, rather than spinach dip. It was delicious!

    Have a warm day!

    ReplyDelete
  45. ebj - congrats on 50!!

MARY/MI - Thanks for the call...you're so sweet to check on me!!

If you haven't figured it out, I made it home ok!! I have the chili in the crockpot. Hubby blew the driveway, and now I can hunker down for the rest of the day!!!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Awww, Jodi, you're kind of making me miss snow days .... when the kids got off school and we'd make cookies and hot chocolate and have a fire going and the kids would fight over who took their gloves and then they'd go outside and come in with wet clothes that I'd have to put in the dryer for the umpteenth time and then I'd have to mop the wet floor and then they'd go out again and someone would come in crying and then they'd all come in again ... nevermind.

LOL! Really, I do kind of miss it a little.

MrD is working in the mtns today but will not stay the night so wonder how long it will take him to drive home just to leave again in the morning? If it was me...I would have a motel room all set up!

MARY: I am interested in your tiny twinkle orgasm! I want one too! Is this something we "older" people get to experience?

LYNN: Good for you mooning your neighbors! I guess that is what they get invading your privacy. You make me laugh!

ZONA: Are you done with your cards? You are all so talented and I haven't even written out my cards and I have had them since October.

TINA: Thank you so much for my new MS page and music. It is so pretty...you are an angel!! (has anyone called you that before)?

    ReplyDelete
  83. Appetizers: I also make the beef bread dip but after I make it I wrap in in foil and bake in for about 45 min low. If you take it somewhere, the foil keeps it warm.

Here is a new one that we just had and it was wonderful and was gone quick:
    BUFFALO CHICKEN DIP

2 - 10 OZ cans of chunk chicken, drained and shred
2-8 oz pkg cream cheese, softened
    1 cup ranch dressing
    1-1/2 cups shredded cheddar
Buffalo Style chicken wing sauce or 3/4 cup pepper sauce
1 bunch celery, cut into 4 " pieces
    1 box chicken-flavored crackers

Mix together cream cheese and ranch dresing, then spread it on the bottom of a 8x11 dish.

Mix the chicken with approx 1/2 bottle of wing sauce. Put as layer on top of the cream cheese mixture.
    Sprinkle with shredded cheese.
Bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes until heated through and cheese is melted. (to avoid a strange orange sherbert color, layer the ingredients as directed, rather than stirring them altogether.

NOTE: I don't like hot or spicy so I used a mild wing sauce. You can make it to your own liking!

  86. Hello Everyone!!

    What yummy tasty appetizers!

I can't wait to write them all down.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Our home has been busy watching the news.

Our dumbass Governor (Illinois) decided to sell Obama's seat to the highest bidder.

Even though he was arrested today the charges may not stick, because he didn't actually take any money. He only "talked" about it.

    Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

    ReplyDelete
  88. My mouth has been drooling the whole time I have been reading about these appetizers.

A big thank you to all the owls that helped me.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Congrats on 100 MEK!!

    We're having pizza tonight, too.

Does anyone watch Takehome Chef? Wow, that Curtis is a cutie :)

  90. Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnuts

    INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
    1 cup ketchup
    1 cup brown sugar
    1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

    16 ounces sliced bacon
2 (8 ounce) cans water chestnuts, drained

    DIRECTIONS
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
In a saucepan, combine ketchup, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce; heat just to boiling. Pour sauce over bacon and water chestnuts.
Cut bacon slices into thirds. Cut some of the bigger water chestnuts in half. Wrap chestnuts in bacon and secure with toothpicks; place in a 9x13 pan.
Bake in preheated oven until bacon is completely cooked, about 45 to 50 minutes.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Curtis just took a big plop of peanut butter and mixed it with vanilla ice cream.

    ReplyDelete
  92. Shirley, dang that sounds good!

If we weren't having horrible weather right now, I would be running to the store.

Instead I'm watching my children make a big mess with glitter and glue.

    BBL

    ReplyDelete
  93. Hey gang I am done exposing myself to the neighbors. Well for now anyway.

Wowser we have twinkling and 5 inch wonders happening all over the place!

Iteach I read about your governor today. I have to say I think he would give the Alaska politicians a run for who is the worst and most corrupt! Lordy! Oh and is his hair real????? I think he goes to the same stylist as Donald Trump.

I tell you I think we need to see the mug shots of all these losers just like they do to the celebrities when they get arrested. LOL

I was trying to think of more appetizers but since I am not in the freezer section of the grossry store I can't come up with a damn thing.

    ReplyDelete
  94. EBJ, I do have PB and ice cream, I wonder what that taste like?

    ReplyDelete
  95. Okay glitter is flying everywhere, but I had to give another quick update about my state.

Four out of the past seven governors who have been arrested were the Governor from Illinois!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Iteach, I've been debating whether pb and vanilla ice cream sounds like it would be tasty.

I just asked MR. EBJ, who is a big pb fan, and he said he thinks it would be good. Maybe he'll try it tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Iteach~~Yep, pretty sad! Aren't at least a couple of them currently in prison?

EBJ~~YAY, we've moved straight from appetizers to dessert. I may have mentioned here before that my favorite is Jif PB mixed into coconut ice cream. DA BOMB!

I just had a Costco muffin & milk. Now I can't afford more calories for a real dinner, and should go walking, but am totally engrossed in a book I can't wait to snuggle up with.

    ReplyDelete
  98. EBJ and iteach, my hubby puts peanut butter in his ice cream all the time! Heck, he even puts peanut butter in his yogurt. He loves peanut butter.

iteach, I heard about your governor! Ummmm, was he thinking at all???

Tinkling, twinkling, glitter and glue! Yes, J/L, it sounds like a song in the making to me!

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hi Shirley! I was wondering where you were. I thought maybe you were hiding in that old shack ....

    ReplyDelete
  100. No Sandie I was at a christmas concert. My friend's 8 year old had his concert tonight and he asked me to go. Couldn't say no. But my knees are really aching tonight and my back hurts so I will probably go to bed soon. I have to go into the office to do the other exam tomorrow morning then to the grocery store.

I have no idea what "old shack" you mean. ( said in the most innocent voice)

    ReplyDelete
  101. I hope you feel better, Shirley! Go get some rest! (And, stay out of that shack you know nothing about.)

    I'm off, too. Goodnight, owls!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Sandie I forgot to tell you I put some protein shakes in the frig for you. Next time I make breakfast I'll add them.

    ReplyDelete
  103. LynnD, I meant to say earlier that once (when we lived in MD) I was looking out my window and saw my neighbor across the street stand up near his window in his whitey-tighties! I never really looked at him the same after that--I always figured him for a boxer guy! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  104. Thank you, Shirley, you're a sweetie.

    ReplyDelete
  105. MEK: What a yummy choice..pizza or McDonalds. I want to come and live at your house!! Yes, I did get 5"...I should have gone further west and I would have gotten 12"!!! Wahoo!!

ITEACH: Your house always sounds so fun and full of laughter. What a good mom you are to always have kid projects.

SHIRLEy; If you need any snow, it sounds like a few of us could ship some to you for your "plan".

Ok...back to cards. One set of the dang cards I received doesn't quite fit the envelope. Too bad I didn't check that in October so I am having to trim the cards...remember, I am not a card maker like so many of you..so trimming is not an easy task for me. Well, I can do it but it isn't very straight!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Diane/Denver~ Tiny "O" Twinkles are better than nothing eh? heh heh!

I better get my dishes done. I have been messing around with my new singing gal on my space.
I made burritos & Spanish rice for supper. I made a mess lol!
    BRB

    ReplyDelete
  107. Diane/Denver, don't feel bad. I ruined one of my envelopes and had to "downsize the card too lol! It's ok, it was a 2nd card I sent to Tina shshshsh! Don't tell her, she may not notice!!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Zona - today - I had the adult happy meal - chicken nuggets, fries, soda, BBQ and a Boy Toy!!

tonight - the pizza is going to be leftovers - Mr. MEK REALLY wanted to go to McD's...... so - I had the double $1.00 cheeseburger, sm fries and a drink...

heck, tomorrow a.m. - I might have to go and get the sausage biscuit!!
    LOL.......

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Dianne - after I made my cards - which took FOREVER (by the way - have NO idea wtf I was thinking) - I struggled to get them into the envelope!!!

    ReplyDelete
  110. EBJ - Mr. MEK loves peanut butter and vanilla ice cream - heck, they even make and stuff now!!

    ReplyDelete
  111. VIG - Biggest Loser is on.. Blue team is already pissing me off and it's only FIVE minutes into it...

    ReplyDelete
  112. Dianne - let's go up to the mtns and get 12 inches!!

    iteach - (((HUGS)))

    ReplyDelete
  113. Ha Mr. Lynn D is home and I told him about my mooning. He laughed his ass off! I just wanted the reports he may hear to be true. I was not soliciting I was making a neighborly statement.

Wow I am feeling left out I haven't heard about one of our politicians getting convicted for a long time. Hmmmm maybe we are due! They have been investigating the Port of Seattle and seems there have been some shenanigans going on there. Maybe something more will come out of that.

Bill O'Reilly is having a onesided war with our governor but that is peanuts compared to Illinois. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  114. Mr. Iteach doesn't like craft nights, but oh well.

He is one of those tidy people.

However, he does see the kids having fun and not watching TV.

I have been thinking a lot about the PB and ice cream!

    ReplyDelete
  115. MEK~I love your McDay today and your tomorrow's Mc Morning. Hooray for the pastry! How's the fudge settin' up?

LynnD~I don't think flashing in your home is illegal, but Should we be taking up a collection in case you need bail money? lol!

    ReplyDelete
  116. Shirley, I hope you feel better tomorrow, along with Tinka!

Tinka I miss you, I will be waiting for you when you come back.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Tinka, don't come back too soon, just come back when your healthy!

    ReplyDelete
  118. VIG- I'm so sorry about your student.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Mary, did you get the dishes done?

    ReplyDelete
  120. Bebbi, I got 10, 645 icy steps in today.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Iteach: Way to go! You beat me today. I got 9,571 steps. I would go back out to try and top ya, but I am beat...poke me with a fork, I'm Done! for the day.

  122. Late in the nest today, but what a delicious collection of posts awaited me!

Must be something about the holiday season... or iteach's blog... but the nest is in sexual overdrive today!

    Don't believe me?

    MEK's orgasming over fast food.

Lynn D's orgasming over a long-suppressed neighbor sex fantasy.

Dianne, Mary, Tina, and Zona are orgasming over Italian Stallions.

Most extraordinary of all, HOdi's driveway had an orgasm courtesy of Mr HOdi!

    ReplyDelete
  123. I am orgasmic over the deals I got at Cracker Barrel tonight.! They had their nice sweaters 40-70% off and Christmas stuff 40% off and I got another 30% off on top of it because my mom works there..woo hoo. So Whabby..what were you orgasmic about today?

    ReplyDelete
  124. Whabby..LOL at your comment about Jodi's hubby. I had to go back up and find that comment..omg..too funny! The driveway got a blow job!

    ReplyDelete
  125. iteach, yup the dishes are done and the kitchen is CLOSED!!

    ReplyDelete
  126. Cracker Barrel did my dishes tonight and Mr. Bebbi bought me a dozen yellow roses when I came home. Last night, he changed my radiator in my car. He was grumpy about it, so I think that is why I got the roses. The card says, "I gotta a big mouth", another card says, "every day its been like seeing a new girl w/you here" on the other side it says, "a rose speaks softly words known only to the heart" and the other card says "Congrats on your weight loss". Now isn't that sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Okay..I am off to smell the roses and head to bed. Sweet Dreams everybody...

Ohh..and Mek, congrats on your McD's!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Bebbi The roses and cards are very sweet. Kudos to Mr. Bebbi for being a sweetheart.

Bear Hodi's driveway got a lot more action than I did!

    ReplyDelete
  129. Mary I think you all might want to take up and keep a collection going. It seems with the estrogen loss I am kind of cranky and losing my give shit inhibitions.

Iteach I think craft night is a fantastic idea!

    Whabby you crack me up.

    Bebbi your hubby is fantastic!

    ReplyDelete
  130. Whabby - isn't that a successful day in the nest??!!

Iteach, honey - SNOW!! 12 inches of SNOW!!!!

  132. good evening owlettes!
i'm not going to change yh's login but it's me, just checking in before getting some shuteye.

had a great evening out with my son Thomas. we took him to Texas de Brazil, ate TONS of food and drank a pitcher of sangria. Then we went shopping to get him some kitchen and bathroom towels and some blankets and pillows for us to sleep on. he has a sparsely furnished but really great apt here in Arlington. I'm really proud of the kid for finding this all on his own!

Tomorrow we'll be doing the surprise Christmas tree while he's at work and then taking off to Oklahoma as long as the weather doesn't turn icy. It's supposed to get below freezing here tonight - so far I've seen some snow flurries and lots of chilly gusting winds. Good thing I brought my winter coat!

Hopefully I can make a flyover again tomorrow. Have a happy Wednesday!
    Hugs,
    Caryn

  133. outatuune I love that you are getting your son a surprise Christmas tree. How fun! Sounds like you're having a great trip.

  134. I am writing this now just to let it out. I know not many owls are flying in this late, but I guess I just felt I wanted to tell you what is going on.

1st, I'm NOT looking for sympathy.

The reason for my laying low is that I am not in much of a festive mood. I have a hard time at the holidays, my mom's birthday was 12/22 and last year was atrocious and this year...well a little better...but not too much.

Last week I had a meltdown of sorts. I lost my job at the hell hole. While I complained about it, I certainly had a love / hate relationship there! In the grand scheme of things, I looked forward to my shifts. I thought highly of the commradrie there. And as you know I needed the income. My job pays me wayyyy less then the last job I had. I depended on the wages and the tips were my play money. So, I freaked. I got scared. I cried...a lot.

I was also hurt by the owner and the executive chef. On my last night they just left...no goodbye, no good luck, no thank you...no fuck off and die...NOTHING.

Then, thankfully G-D heard my pleas and he brought me a bunch of overtime at work thru the end of the year. It will hopefully give me a bit of a cushion until January and hopefully I can find another part-time job.

I am working 9 - 7 everyday and all day on Saturdays. It is tiring, but at least I am home by a decent hour...not midnight! AND, I don't have to mop floors or clean the toilets!!! I am trying to find the yellow in the situation.

I still don't have the holiday spirit, which is one of the reasons I didn't participate in the card exchange. I don't really have the oomph to write out cards. I didn't want to exchange addresses and not be able to reciprocate. Maybe next year.

I want to thank ALL of you for your kindness. Your well wishes. Your yellow. Your friendship.

It really does mean the world to me.

I don't know when I will feel up to full-time play here, but know that I think fondly of all of you.

good night to all and to all a good night

    {{{hugs}}}

  135. I'm here Maureen. I didn't comment today, but thought I would check in tonight. Thank you for letting us know how you are doing. I know you will probably not see this, but you are always remembered and missed. I will keep sending you yellow on ms if that is alright.
    HUGS TO YOU, Lani

WHABBY - Glad our driveway got some today....!!! Thanks for the chuckle this morning. :D

BEBBI - What a sweet card from your hubby!! And you win the prize for the best deal of the day. :D

JUST SLIN - I'm sorry my driveway got more action than you. Which reminds me, are you hooking up with Custard for the holidays?

OUTATUNE - I can't wait to hear about your son's response to his surprise!! Sounds like you are having a fun trip. :D

  142. Mo: Hopefully you look back here. I really am sorry for all your troubles right now. I can relate to the "not in a holiday spirit". I haven't been this year either. At all! I haven't even put up a tree or done any cards yet and usually I am right on the cards especially.

I am glad you are seeing the Yellow in your situation. I wish you the best and what a lousy thing for them to do, no goodbye or anything..shame on them!
