Grown up Christmas List

by Zona

Funny, I'm not a big Amy Grant fan..but I do love this song. I realize I may be naive, but I wish for same things she does in this song. Just look at the faces of the children in the video..think of your family and friends...don't you wish for these things too? What's on your Grown Up Christmas List?

  1. Morning Glories!

Zona I guess my wish this Christmas is for all of the people in our government to quit thinking about themselves or just the people in their little corner of the world and get off their ass and think about all of the people they represent all Americans! Because everything they do affects all of us.

That is it. Once they do that our economy and job outlook would be just fine.

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. My Grown Up Christmas List is similar to Lynndeeee's, except I wish that people in general would think more about others. So many times, I see people so wrapped up in their own lives and problems, that they don't stop and think of, much less help, others. I know a lot of people on this blog volunteer but this doesn't seem to be the norm anymore.I realize that people have become more cynical and distrustful of the large organizations, but whatever happened to neighbors helping neighbors when there was a crisis? If you have ever read or heard stories about the Great Depression, many people survived it due to the help and kindness of people that didn't have much more than they did. I don't know why this type of kindness rarely exists anymore, but wouldn't we be much better off if it did?

  4. Good morning LYNN, SCIRISH & IBEBOLD.

I would like to see an It's a Wonderful Life moment in the world. Can you imagine this world if we all looked out for each other? I think our feet wouldn't even touch the ground. Thank you ZONA for your video.

SHIRLEY, You better stay alert today. :)

  8. *Off Topic Mini Rant*

Ok, so I got a MP3 player for my Birthday and spend a good part of yesterday afternoon trying to get the music THAT I PAID FOR out of my itunes library onto the MP3 player. Apparently you cannot move the tunes that you PAID FOR on any other MP3 player except an ipod! WTF??? I PAID for them...I should be able to put them whereever the hell I want! I am about to tell itunes where to put them and it does NOT involve an MP3 player!!!

  9. OMG, Zona, this is too funny! Just this weekend, Mr Whabbear and I declared this our "official 2008 Christmas song"! We love it! And since it gets ample airplay on KOIT, the Bay Area's self-styled "Official Christmas Station", we had no sooner made our declaration to each other on Sunday afternoon, hopped into the car to head to the Lone Star, tuned the radio to KOIT, only to hear it playing!

My Christmas wish is for the owls: that we have a more prosperous and healthy 09 than we're expecting; that we experience LESS than our fair share of illness and depression and tragedy; that we're all still here and active in the nest at this time next year.

  10. Morning Zona! Was that you baking cookies all night? No wonder I couldn't sleep!

I am not an Amy Grant listener either, but my sister is. She bought a Christmas CD of Amy's a long time ago and this song was on it. Actually the whole CD was nice. She has a very nice voice.

I don't usually make Christmas lists, but if I did I guess I would want everyone everywhere to just respect the feelings of others.

I was going to say "that's my 2 cents" like Lynn D did but here in Canada with the exchange rate I guess it would only be 1 and 1/2 cents :)

Great video Zona- not huge on Amy Grant either, but love this.

My grown up wish is selfish. I want my kids and family to arrive for Christmas from their various destinations on time and safely. My son for CA, other son from MN, nephew from ND with brand new grand-niece, and assorted other relatives from IL.

I also wish for world peace, the economy to get better, all our owls to be safe and happy and to win the lottery. I don't think thats asking too much, do you??

    Happy Birthday Mary!!

Zona~~Wouldn't you love to hear Frank sing this? (I like Michael Buble's version, too.) Without going into a whole 'One World Without Hunger' prayer, I can't improve on the chorus, as written:

    No more lives torn apart

And time would heal all hearts

Every man would have a friend

    That right would always win

BUT,a selfish addition to my Christmas wish-list...Thermal windows! My humble hut still has its original single-pane aluminum frame windows. It's SO embarrassing to have to use an ice-scraper on the INside bottom of the windows!

I have been off the blog for a couple of weeks. I wasn't feeling the Christmas spirit but as the day gets closer, the blue is lifting and the green and red (and yellow) are taking its place. Thanks to the Owls that sent good wishes. Very, very much appreciated!!!!

Zona...love your blog and love the song! It is soooooo beautiful. My grown up Christmas wish would always be peace and love for all. And that the economy changes quickly and money and jobs are not a problem for anyone. And that all wars and conflicts cease. And that all children are loved and know it. And that all kids have the funding they need to learn and grow. And that everyone is accepted for who they are and who they love doesn't matter. That hate and intolerance are obliterated. And joy is there for all!

VIG - So happy to see you posting today. I have missed you so much in the nest. I feel like copying and pasting your Christmas wish because I feel the same way about those issues. Please add my name to your comment.
Drive carefully tonight. The side roads are pure ice. They have closed the road that I would go on to get anywhere because there are cars stalled everywhere. I think I will stay home by my fire and just look out at the pretty snow. Because of my 'almost fall' 10 days ago I have been house bound anyway. The cold is here to stay and that is so unusual for this area. We rarely get cold for more than a few days before it warms up and rains. Global warming?????

I agree with all the Owls grown up wishes. I just have to say that I see so much generosity from people who give to Christmas Promise. We were worried that, with the economy in such dire straits, we wouldn't be able to help as many families this year and that has not come to pass. It has restored my faith in humanity.

  60. ZONA: What a nice blog and I love that song. Thank you for making me think today. \

My wish is pretty much the same everyone else...peace in the world, good health for my family and friends and all the owls (they are included in friends). I wish for the United States to rally and I wish great success for our new President.

Ummmm, I kind of want a bigger flat screen for the bedroom because my eyes are getting older to read things on the 19".

We tell the kids to buy for the grandkids not us. Last year we asked my daughter and SIL for a Thanksgiving dinner in the Spring with just them and us. I am asking for the same thing this year. It was so nice. My DIL makes great Italian food so I asked her to make some canolis (sp) that I can freeze for nights I want to "cook". They all think I am silly but there is truly nothing either of us want or need and they are all on a budget too and I think these are great presents that I could never buy at a store.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARY!!! Are you caught up to my age yet? Are you doing anything fun today? I sure wish I had some of those cookies you made last night (yours too ZONA). I am starving right now.

Drive safe GOLDIE. We are having a heat wave today of 36. It is going to get colder and snow over the weekend...I hope not as we all have things to do this last weekend before Christmas and my husband flies out to Virginia on Monday.

Guess What????? I wrapped almost all day. I am now heading over to my daughters to take my granddaughters to the store and dinner as she is having her Christmas bunco party at her house tonight. I haven't been out this door since Saturday...too cold.

I love reading all your Christmas wishes today everyone. Thanks for sharing them. I am so glad to be associated with all of you.

  61. This is one of my favorite songs and I thought I would share the lyrics with you today..

    For -

This is my wish for all of you!!

    "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts

I hope that the days come easy and the moments pass slow,
And each road leads you where you want to go,
And if you're faced with a choice, and you have to choose,
I hope you choose the one that means the most to you.
And if one door opens to another door closed,
I hope you keep on walkin' till you find the window,
If it's cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile,

But more than anything, more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
    Yeah, this, is my wish.

I hope you never look back, but ya never forget,
All the ones who love you, in the place you left,
I hope you always forgive, and you never regret,
And you help somebody every chance you get,
Oh, you find God's grace, in every mistake,
And you always give more than you take.

But more than anything, yeah, and more than anything,
My wish, for you, is that this life becomes all that you want it to,
Your dreams stay big, and your worries stay small,
You never need to carry more than you can hold,
And while you're out there getting where you're getting to,
I hope you know somebody loves you, and wants the same things too,
    Yeah, this, is my wish.

  64. MEK~~Good one, thanks for sharing.

Good evening ALL and may I just say "Brrrrrr"? Before you frozen tundra owls laugh at us in the PNW, we did tie the record low (11*) for this date today, set in 1919! It shouldn't be this cold here until end of January, if ever. And, how does Dianne_in_mile_high_DENVER get 36*, when we couldn't get above 24* today? That's just wrong!

  66. Microsoft: Emergency Patch for IE Flaw Coming Wednesday

Microsoft is signaling that it plans to ship an emergency software update on Wednesday to fix a dangerous security hole in its Internet Explorer Web browser that thousands of compromised Web sites have been using to install malicious software.

Microsoft says the critical flaw is present in all versions of IE, from IE5 all the way up through IE8 Beta 2. In an unusually frank blog post, the company estimated that about 0.2 percent of Windows users worldwide may have been exposed to Web sites containing exploits that try to attack this vulnerability.

While one in every 500 IE users may not sound like a large number, Microsoft said the frequency of attacks is increasing dramatically.

"That percentage may seem low, however it still means that a significant number of users have been affected. The trend for now is going upwards: we saw an increase of over 50 percent in the number of reports today compared to yesterday," wrote Microsoft's Ziv Mador and Tareq Saade.

In a blog post on Dec. 13, security firm Trend Micro said it found evidence that at least 6,000 Web sites had been hacked and seeded with code designed to install password-stealing software when vulnerable users visit the sites with IE. And that was three days ago.

  70. LynnD Congrats on #1. You must really get up early!

scirish Did your injured boob prevent you from making #1 today? I hope it feels better. Maybe it needs a massage. LOL

Zona That was a lovely blog today with a wonderful message. Thank you.

The thing is, we really could live in a utopian world if everyone went along with it. We are capable of growing and transporting food worldwide. There should be no one going hungry. We have enough medicine in the world that no one should have to go without. I wonder if, as a species, we will ever be enlightened enough to live in the highest of our potential.

    Mary Happy Birthday!

Tina Happy Birthday to Mr. Tina!

  76. Sorry I have been missing lately.

This is the last week of school and it is absolutely crazy.

Our Christmas program was suppose to be tonight but at the last minute it was canceled due to the blizzardly weather.

So now it is tomorrow at 5:00. I think a lot parents will be a little disappointed in that time.

  78. Its snowing here in NJ...

I had to drive in the yucky stuff and had to clean it off before putting it in the garage...

    Go figure...

  84. Carol - I sent you an e-mail.

Zona and VIG - Thanks for the calls today. I enjoyed them very much.

I gave my grown up Christmas list. Now for the six year old that lives inside me, I am wishing for an i-pod so I can buy the Anne of Green Gable books and listen to them, a turn-table so I can change my long playing records into CD's and of course a teddy bear with 2008 written on its feet.

I think I am ready to go to bed. Thanks again Zona for the great blog. See you all tomorrow. Stay Safe.
    Love, Tinka

I was alerted to your post on Rossland about my blog, So evidently you are lurking here on the nest. I don't know what exactly you are tying to say. I don't know you or who you are and the reasoning behind your comment. It just seems to me that you are trying to stir up trouble. And I for one, will not allow drama, on this nest, any which way..

I have always said that anyone is welcomed here as long as there is peace!

    With that said... Merry Christmas

  97. Good Evening

SCIRISH, I hope the "girls" wake up feeling better tomorrow.

BEAR, I agree with your wish for a depression, illness & tragedy less or free 2009.

Hi SHIRLEY, You must be dry by now!!!

Happy Birthday to MARY & MR T_IN_UT

LYNN, I hope the dogs didn't get their tongues stuck on the ice pops.

Hi MEK, May I address you as the "FAST FOOD QUEEN"? OR, fast food connoisseur?

GOLDIE, I will keep a good thought for your family to arrive safely.

TINA, No one could ever replace you as the best crack whore ever! But, watch out for HODI. I still worry on occasion when I know my daughter is out on the road. I think we could be 90 yrs old and still worry.

TINKA, I absolutely love Vince Gill also. I am so glad you are back.

VIG my VIG, It is good to see you again and I am glad you enjoyed the movie. It is one I am definitely interested in seeing.

EBJ, How is the Santa hat picture on POE going?

BEBBI, What more could a mother ask for.

DIANNE, Good idea, I never thought of justifying a big flat screen TV for medical reasons.

MO, I hope you are holding up okay.

BARB & BON i ms messaged you today.

    Hi to ITEACH & CAROL.

I am sorry I wrote this so late in the day, as most of you are probably already asleep.

  98. Hey, I for one, love Ross. I still go and read his blog now and again. I don't post too much over there anymore, but occasionally I do. I think Whabby goes, Renee (although I haven't seen her here for a while, but she's been really busy) and others I am sure. So, I don't get the comment either. Actually, I didn't know about it until you mentioned it Carol.

I went out and walked in the cold. I am so glad I did. :) I got 9537 cold steps in today.

Also, my CAR is finally fixed. I am SO happy! I have been without it for almost two months. I had it one day and then today my son used it. LOL, easy come, easy go. Tomorrow I go to see the Nutcracker with my daughter. I will take the Flip and try to get a video to upload.

Carol, I hope you are doing well. Congrats on the new car, I bet you can't wait to get it! :)

I am truly lucky to have so many thoughtful friends!!

My Son I went Christmas Shopping. It was nice to have someone chauffeur me around the crowded streets. He treated me a fantastic lunch at a Chinese restaurant. I had lemon chicken. It was great!

Someone mentioned lotteries. My Son & My Husband each gave me a $20 ticket to the Millionaire drawing for January. They draw
6-1 million dollar winners 12-$1000,00, and draw 6 thousand smaller prizes.
I could use a measly million lol!!

Bon, we used to have "those" windows! Our patio door would be thick with ice! We had all windows and patio door replaced with air tight ones. Makes a big difference!
