Smiles :O)

What is it with a smile? Just a simple gesture, a facial expression, and the whole dynamic of someones day can change.

I love to smile, and I love to include them in all my doings. I feel a smile can say a thousand words, and at times no words are needed, just a simple smile will do.

I have come to realize that smiling is part of my personality, it fits me best. It gives me that cheery feeling, and I am in hopes when I smile at someone, I bring them that cheery feeling as well.

Smiling does not harm, it only shows the kindness in yourself and others. It does not take that much time to do, perhaps a second, perhaps less. The only effort one must bring forth, is the thoughtfulness of a smile, its a easy task.

The best smile one can have is between friends or lovers, because when that smile occurs, and the eyes are met, the smile tells it all. I love that I don't have to tell what my smile means, they just know. Its like the unspoken word.

And when a child smiles, the world lights up, the beauty of the smile is so innocent and pure. This smile of all the smiles can certainly clear the storms, so the sun shines its brightest.

Smiles are just good for the soul, they tell a story, a happy one, with a rainbow as its ending.

Smiles, Always!

:O)

  2. Morning Glories!

Carol you are right there is nothing like a heart felt genuine smile! Especially if it turn into a belly laugh!

Baby Ritchie has started to smile and it just tickles me to watch him work those new facial muscles and then see a big gummy grin! So cute and precious.

I have my eye open. I wanted to say my eye problem is not hives. I get plugged tear ducts and it can be quite painful. I have to hot pack them and try to clear them out. I am very prone eye doc says it is blepherititus.

The hives I am not sure what set them off this week. Still using the same soaps etc....so I am thinking it may have been something I ate. I have had this problem since I was a teenager.

    Off to get some coffee.

  5. Good morning Hooters!

Congrats on 1st 'ole one eye'.

Smiles- love them, especailly in babies. But today I feel like crying. It is only a few minutes to nine and I am having the day form hell!

My beloved Pepper decided she needed to pee at 4:30 am. WTF? It was 12 degrees outside! I let her out, she chased rabbits I yelled, she came in. I roll around until its time to get up and there is blood all over my sheets, my pillow. Another WTF?? Apparently I cut my finger when I got up and don't know how. Follow this up with rubbing my eye after I am all dressed and ready for work and completely ripping and losing my contact in my eye. Took me 20 minutes (I was sure I was on my way to emergency) to fish it out. And yes Lynn, my eye is totally red and pretty much shut.

I get to work (late) and realize I forgot my yogurt and banana. Finally, I sit down, I look at my white shirt under my black sweater and see that it is covered in little black 'hairs'. OY- why do I think this is going to be a long ass day.................

  6. Good Morning!

Thank you for making ME smile this morning CPGEM with this wonderful blog!!

Mary/MI....Oh my! I would have been traumatized for life by your snow driving experience!! How did you get out? Were you hurt?

Shirley..I forgot to tell you that I really enjoyed the blog. I'd love to hear more about where you live, I have always wanted to visit NS. Your snow story reminded me of a blizzard we had quite a few years ago. A drive that normally took 20 min. took me over 2 hours. I don't know how many times I had to stop and clear the windshield. It was snowing so hard that the wipers couldn't keep up. The snow was so deep that people were getting stuck all over the place and had to get out of their cars to scoop out the snow around the wheels. All of them employers in the area seemed to have let their employees out at the same time, which caused some traffic snarls, but there was such a sense of comradery that it seemed like an adventure that we were all taking together.

  9. Good Morning IBB!

Scrishy Benydryl is a staple in our house. If I take it when I first notice the hives I can usually get them under control. Otherwise it is a trip to the Doc or urgent care for a shot. Last time that happened 90 percent of my body was covered! Even the soles of my feet.

goldie yikes! Your day is surely starting out shitty! You might have Mr. G drive you home just in case. Black hair=scotch tape. The office girls hair remover. Used it many a time when I was working. However I am wondering why in the hell you are wearing white?

Good Morning Zona you always make me laugh!

  10. LYNND's on FIRST!! The "1" cracks me up! ;)

SCIRISH: Congrats on sex...six..I meant six... ;)

GOLDIE: OMG..what a morning! {{hugs}}..sounds like today's a day for your special brownies!

  14. Carol, you had Elf's (Will Ferrell's) voice while I read that. "Smiling is my favorite!" LOL!

That is one thing I miss about the internet. This :) can not replace the real deal.

Congratulations Lynn_D #1! Sorry about the hives and the eyepherititus. :(

Morning ibebold, Goldie, Zona, Scirish, and all who swoop in later!

Lynn, I have been scotch taping myself to death here! I didn't know my sweater shed like that!!!Just makes the white look dirty. And yes, I did have to laugh about you questioning me wearing white!

*update* I spilled coffee all over my desk and left pant leg. I really don't know if I should laugh or cry today.

  17. SMILES to all the Owls this morning.

I'm leaving very soon to work at Christmas Promise today. I will be working about 3X per week through December 24. I love doing this every year because it makes me smile to think about all the families that will be having a good Christmas because of all of our efforts. No matter how down I may be about the holiday I know that that families will be smiling!

LynnD, Congrats on #1. My SIL had a problem with hives for about 7 years and suddenly they just went away. Never found out what caused them, but she would get them all over, too, even inside her mouth. Yuck!

Zona, I got interrupted and haven't finished decorating yet. Tonight I am ushering for "Forever Plaid" so I'll try to finish tomorrow.

Goldie, I hope your day gets better.

IBB, LOL @ Tis the season...hope it isn't too busy yet.

Carol, keep smiling that beautiful smile.

I hope everyone has a great day. BBL

  18. Zona no eyedrops. The tear ducts get plugged (which by the way we have ducts all along the rim bottom and top of our eyes) easily. Started happening as I got older. Mr. Lynn D says I have eye dandruff. Pretty visual that! I quit wearing eye makeup for the most part because that really makes a mess. Anyway I digress, the only way to unplug the suckers is with hot packs as hot as I can stand them and them massaging the eye lids to force the plug out.

I had one once that totally plugged on my outer right top lid and could not get it out it became a lump and solidified. I had to go to an eye surgeon and have it surgically removed. Want me to describe that experience? Let's just say it involved them turning my eyelid inside out. So I try to avoid that at all costs.

Scrishy yes the soles of my feet and other unmentionable places! We figured out it was from the laundry soap I was using at the time. By the time I finally relented and went to the urgent care to get the shot of adrenaline and liquid Benydryl I was a mess. The doc took one look at me and winced. Then said drop your drawers for my shot in the ass and I heard him gasp (no not at my fat ass! I was skinnier then) and then he said it was the worst case of hives he had ever seen! The man really looked like he was in physical pain watching me try to put my clothes back on as I was like a raw nerve ending.

I did appreciate the fact that he felt sorry for me. Tho it could have been the horror of what I looked like! People in the waiting room would not get near me!

Oh the joys of sensitive skin.

  19. Goldie I say laugh! Here I am handing you some ketchup and mustard to dribble on yourself before you eat lunch, so you won't have to worry about it later! LOL

Sacbarb how fun! That is fantastic and you are right it does help alot to know you are helping families who are in need.

I will be getting busy in the next week as the food bank has put up 3 giving trees in town and we have a xmas tree raffle with vintage ornaments on it. Actually it is fully decorated and the winner gets all. Then on the 13th and 14th we are having a rummage sale at the senior center to raise money for the kids goodies to go with the xmas baskets.

Oy I just read that list and now I want to lay down. LOL

  20. Hmmm...I just read the most interesting energy saving tip:

"Hold burning incense near places where different materials meet, such as window frames, where the floor meets outside walls and bottoms of doors. Watch where the smoke goes to find gaps and then seal them with caulk or weather stripping"

    Just thought I'd share....

  21. Lynn - Congrats on First.

Good Morning Zona-my-Baby, Ibebold, Scirish, Goldie, Mek and Lois.

I am rushing out to take my 'fur babies' to the groomers. They will be getting their pictures taken with Santa on Saturday. I sure hope they SMILE. I know I will be smiling.
See you all later. Have a great day.

  22. I concur, Goldie, laugh like a crazy person, maybe you'll get sent home early LOL!

Lynn my grandmother in-law used to use potato goop on her eyes when her ducts were clogged. Try it. Can't hurt.

Scrape the inside of the potato with a fork, put warm water on a paper towel and soak up the potato goo with the warm towel, then place it on the bad eye and wait at least 15 minutes.

She had all kinds of home remedies for stuff that ails ya. That potato goop works on pink eye and sties too. She said the starch draws out the bad. (stop looking at me like that LOL!)

  23. This should be a blog not a running commentary, but you are in it this far so I will continue...

I went to eat my yogurt and banana and realized I forgot my insulin at home. HOW the hell does an insulin dependent 4 shots a day diabetic forget their insulin??????
Idiot. So, no banana and no yogurt until I go home for lunch and take my insulin. I did remember to take my shot 1st thing this morning so I should be too high, but leapin' frogs I swear this day is just getting better!!!

I am taking your advice too- I am just going to laugh. In my soggy pants, with my red eye and black fuzzy white shirt. :)

  25. Smiling at you all, Owls! Good morning!

Carol..great blog! I was just thinking yesterday, that there should be a universal rule that if someone smiles at you, you have to smile back! I was out for a walk and smiling at every person I passed as I like to do and some people looked at me like I had two heads! But I kept at it because I love that smiles connect us for a second with complete strangers!

Hope all yours day are filled with smiles! Happy Tuesday!

  29. Oh Lord Goldie now you have me worried!

Lois should I use a special potato? Any kind better than another? You know like a Russet or and Idaho spud or Yukon gold or maybe a little red potato. I do have some potatoe buds would they work?

I am going to try it! Hey even if it doesn't work I might have beautiful starched eyelids when I am done!

Hi Vig :) that is for you!

Hi Tinka is your house fully decorated yet?

sacbarb I figured out why I am not into decorating! It may have to do with above list for December. I am thinking a strand of lights in one corner may just do it for home. Festive yet minimalist!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Mr. Goldie just walked by my desk and asked why I wasn't eating the banana I called him to bring to me! I just told him I wasn't hungry. I didn't think he would smile if I told the truth. But a few of you are smiling at my day and that makes me smile too.

I guess the blog is doing it's job!!

    ReplyDelete
  31. NN/LL...I have heard of the potato cure! I actually used it for a nasty boil....It worked, but I felt kinda dumb holding a raw potato on my leg

    ReplyDelete
  33. GOLDIE - I'm smiling, cuz MR. JODI has done the same thing!!! I can't tell you how many times I've had to take his insulin to him @ work. The other reason I'm smiling is that I have a mind to kidnap you this afternoon and head over to Monkey Shines for a few cocktails.....sounds like the perfect remedy for your day!!!

CAROL - Luv you blog.....this is exactly I think of when I think of you!!! SMILES!!! I practice what I preach at work. There are days that I'm hoping that my smile made a difference (especially with the crabby folks!!).

LYNN D - You sound a mess!! Maybe I should kidnap you, too!!!

  37. Congrats on first, LynnD! I think you must secretly be a part of my family ... my hubby has the same eye condition you do and has also had to have it surgically drained once. So, when he feels it coming he immediately starts his hot washcloth treatment and can usually take care of it. I tell him he has eye dandruff, too!! LOL

And, my son is having a problem with hives! I'm taking him to the doctor this afternoon because they are getting more painful for him. We can't figure out what's causing them--they only pop out on his neck, shoulders and chest. He says it feels like hundreds of bee stings.

Carol, smiles are the perfect gift! I smile alot, too, and it's rare when someone doesn't smile back. My nephew's baby who just visited is six months old and she has the most beautiful baby smile--so cute!

Goldie! You poor dear. Just think of it this way--your day just HAS to get better! :)

Hi IBB, Scirish, Zona, MEK, Lois, sacbarb, Tinka and VIG and Jodi!

  38. GOOD MORNING TO ALL OF MY NESTMATES

CAROL, Thank you for your cheerful thoughts on smiling. I remember as a young girl passing someone while walking down the street and exchanging smiles. It could even be a man passing by and tipping his hat smiling and I would smile back. People weren't so afraid to smile at strangers in those days. A smile and a kind word can change someone's whole day.

When SLIN and I worked together she used to say if we smile when we answer the phone people will hear it in our voices on the other end.

  39. Smile for me

    When you smile,
You create a language of intimate interaction,

    When you smile,
You send an instant message of heart to heart communication.

    When you smile,
You create a dream world of happiness,

    When you smile,
The whole world smiles with you,

    When you smile,
The despair and troubles seem so far away,

    When you smile,
The hope and cheers seem only a stone’s throw away.

    When you smile,
My heart gets the will to survive in distress,

    When you smile,
My mind gets the power to overcome all the hurdles.

    When you smile,
    My heart belongs to you,

    when you smile,
The whole world belongs to you.

    Have a great day Nesters!!!

  42. Carol~ I thought I should take a break and tell you what my last passenger said~

He said, "No you didn't, but you made me smile and that's all that counts!"

    ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh~ how sweet~

lynn d~ congrats on first~ so sorry about your eye~

Goldie~ I'm really sorry....but you have made me laugh with your "antics" all day~

    Jodi~ I have no idea~

  43. LYNN, I am sorry you have to endure the eye problem and the hives at the same time. Each is bad enough without landing at the same time.

GOLDIE, I am sitting here speechless. I think bloody sheets and foreign objects floating around in your eye could easily have been a clue to stay put at home today, however it seems you are much too conscientious to do that. Not to mention you are telling us with a SMILE in your words.

ZONA, I am with you on the apple crisp. Thank you HODI. ZONA, You are one card ahead of me!

NN/LL, I worked with a Russian nurse who had potato cures for lots of ailments. One example being boiling in water and inhaling the steam to draw out congestion. When you think about it, you can always mash them afterward for dinner. I guess it could be called a heal- a -meal.

VIG, I love the idea of your UNIVERSAL RULE.

TINK, Your family and friends are so fortunate to visit your home at Christmas time. It looks, no it is, a wonderland.

Everyone stay safe at work and out on the road today.

  49. ***PSA for Costco Members***

Some things are just too good NOT to share with your best friends! If you're still wondering what to buy/ship to an intire family, clients, best friends/neighbors, favorite hairdresser or...etc., this might be perfect.

    A PERFECT UNDER $30 GIFT

If I could, I would send this to every one of you and yours for this season.

The photo does NOT do justice to this incredible bargain! I received this set last year and enjoyed every delicious morsel. This year the tower of gift boxes(no tacky advertising on them, over 12"high), ribbon & bow intact, are part of my holiday decorations. The boxes are so independently pristine, after contents are removed, that they could be used as separate gift boxes for 'paying it forward'.

p.s. I have NO connection to or investment in Harry & David, a world-renowned company based in Southern Oregon. Last I checked, this Costco.com offer is better than through H & D's own site. Shipping & handling are INcluded in this price, and you can send to multiple addresses in one transaction. An AMAZING deal, IMHO, and if the idea eases the holiday stress for even one of you, it'll bring me a SMILE!

    ReplyDelete
  50. BONBON- to bad I'm done shopping-that really is a good deal!! Thank you for sharing. Harry and David has great stuff.

I am home from jail now. Well, not really but it was almost the cherry on my cake today.

I went to Walgreens and waited in line for 15 minutes to pick up my perscriptions. Ok, this I can deal with. I am finally the next one in line and an elderly women comes up behind me with cart, and trying to get around me rams me in the back of my left leg. (Same poor coffee leg). I turn around and she says to me " did they call your name?" I just kinda said, "no" and she says "then you have let me go first because my perscription is ready".

I was looking at her (she has not apologized for almost taking me out) and I said "mine are done too". She says "thats what I asked you!" OY- I bit my lip, I turned around and then she says, "they called my name, get out of my way" and hits me with the cart again!!!

I almost punched her lights out. I don't give 2 shits if she was 80 years old. Just then 2 lines freed up and she goes to the other one and proceeds to give the poor girl so much grieve that she had to call the supervisor over to finish the transaction. She called the girl a big dummy for not doing things right because she (old lady)couldn't get her card to swipe. The girl calmly thru gritted teeth says " you have to let me finish ringing things up please. She swiping the damn card thru the reader everytime the girl rang another item up.

Finally, I am done, she is done and believe it or not- YES- she hits me a 3rd time with the fucking cart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I turned around and told her I was going to have her arrested for assualt!! I then gathered myself before I went off totally and left the store. OMG!!!

Thanks for remembering my "squeeze" appt. I think it went well.

After my "squeeze" the gal told me to wait that she had to show the films to the radiologist. When she returned she told me I was suppose to come back 6 months ago for a follow up ultra sound. For the life of me I can't remember any such thing, I told her this, and then she showed me the letter they sent me..

    Oops..

My script was just for a ultrasound of the right one, but the radiologist wanted the left one too, I had to wait till they called my Dr to get approval..

I was approved, so both were done..

GOLDIE...oh hun, your trevails cracked me up. I needed the laugh, sorry it was at your expense!

CAROL...your smiles are a bright spot in my day.

I am going to be taking a sabbatical from blogging for a bit. I have some things going on that will keep me from being a good blog buddy, so for now it's best to take a break.

Hopefully, I will be back before the holidays, but if not...I hope you all have a blessed holiday. I hope you are able to spend time with those you love and celebrate in the way you dream of it to be.

Good night to all and to all a good night

  68. Carol, what a pretty blog today, I love it.

I have not read any comments from today or yesterday.

I just feel very overwhelmed right now.

Winter makes me feel like I can't see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I hope to be regrouped soon.

    Have a nice night everyone.

  82. Hey everybody! Joey says hello! He's posted a couple of comments over on the Rossblog lately... maybe he'll come back to the nest too!

Goldie: I literally cannot believe what you went through today. None of it is really funny, but by the time I read that the bitch hit you a third time... well... I was ROFLMAO!

    'weenie: Check your MySpace!

MEK: A Mickey Dees, hmmm? You'll never have to cook again!

Carol: Smiles come with so many associations! The first thing I thought of when I read the blog was the jingle from an old Canadian beer commercial:

When you're smiling, keep on smiling, Blue smiles along with you...

Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue Blue, Labatts Blue!

iteach: Hugs! Maybe the way to deal with the SAD is to drink Labatts Blue?

  86. Hi everyone. I am glad to report I have quietly sat in my house and the roof has not caved in on me yet.
I am going to bed now and I am hoping that when I get up tomorrow it will be a MUCH better day for me and Lynn!!

MO- I am going to miss you. BIG HUGS and I'll think of you everytime I eat bacon and when I make that 30 pound ham at X-mas :)
    XXOO

MEK- I remember how thrilled I was when my hometown got a Mickey D's!

Carol- the 2 all beef patties song... do you remember when they came out with that and if you could say it in a certain amount of time correctly you got a free big Mac? We used to drive to Freeport, Il when I was in high school (a 1/2 hour) just to do it. We were pro's at it!! happy memories.

    Good night all- pleasant dreams.

LynnD~~God luv ya, girl! I feel for you. Hope the potato paste helps! Have to admit, I knew potatoes had 'eyes', but who knew eyes had potatoes?

  95. SHIRLEY: Yea, the sunshine is back!! You know how much this is my favorite avatar!

LYYND: You need to stay in bed along with GOLDIE tomorrow. You both have had quite a day of it. I hope you are feeling better in the morning.

GOLDIE: You should have screamed since you just had surgery on your legs! I just don't get how people can be so rude...regardless of age!

It has been a busy day today with errands, etc. I think I will go to bed early tonight and get some good sleep as I have to be up early in the AM.

MEK: McDonalds....yum. We have one right about a block away. My husband loves their sugar free vanilla iced coffee. I get happy meals for the toys to plus it is a perfect size sometimes.

Hope you are all doing well.

MO: I will miss your humor so much. I hope things will go good for you and you will be back on the blog very soon. I guess we won't be having any bacon for awhile. :)

BONO: That site you sent us looks very nice and especially with you recommending it to us. Thanks. I did order a couple of things on Amazon but still had to pay shipping!
