♪♪ Softly As I Leave You ♪♪

Chosen by East Bay J

It was written in 1960 (lyrics were in Italian originally) and has been recorded by quite a few different artists. I first heard it right after Frank Sinatra died. A friend of mine and I were talking about Frank, and my friend played a CD with this song on it, it is called "Softly As I Leave You". It seemed fitting at the time.

  3. I'm going to try to be here today, but I can't guarantee...

Boz had me awake from 3 to 5 this morning. I'm dragging big time!
I think he ate his dinned too fast and got sick!

  4. Morning Glories!

Ebj I don't think I had ever heard that song before. Thank you! Very pretty. I love the violins and swelling music that accompanies him.

    Hi Birdee!

Renee Eve I am an idiot! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

  5. Birdee I have learned to be quick and sneaky when it comes to First! Scrishy is faster than Flo Jo when it comes to sliding in and taking it!

I hope Boz feels better this morning. Did he puke on the carpet? MEK and I have a theory that the animals always puke on the carpet or a throw rug! For some reason never on the tile or easy to clean floors.

  7. Bebbi, from area 51 regarding hot flashes....
Mine started in my late 30's,.
I've been done with my monthly visitor for about 9-10 years now. So no, they don't go away when you're done.
The hot flashes are nowhere near as bad as they used to be, but I stll have them.
I used to be Dripping in sweat, sitting in the A/C and ceiling fans on high in just a t-shirt...compared to what they used to be...I'd say now they are more like Warm Flashes!
I've just started wearing winter clothes the last 2 yrs.
I wish I knew how much longer I have to go through this, but I don't..
I hope your's aren't as bad, or long as mine.

    xoxoxo

  8. Lynn, sorry, I was typing!!

Luckily we don't have mush carpet left in the house. We've changed to Laminate flooring. He was in the hallway, on his way to the kitchen.
I tried letting him out, but he wouldn't go. I thought he was being his stubborn self about going out to potty!

Then I heard "the noise" along with his crying!

    ReplyDelete
  9. Oh Birdee that poor baby. I hope he just had a hair ball and that was it.

Oh I just read your hot flash update and all I can say is Tell Me it Ain't so! They never leave? Crap!

    Hi ya Iteach!

  10. LynnD, yes, so far I'm still waiting for them to be totally gone!!! I thought they were at one time, but it was just a cruel joke my body was playing one me...because they came back!

  11. Well, Boz did get into some trash the first part of the week. I have to nag Mr. B to keep the bathroom door's shut! He didn't!! He was putting a new light cover in mine and left the door open.
The next day Miss Ruby got sick..He told me she threw up and it was Blue!!!!!
After about a minute, I had a thought...went and checked my bathroom and.....my SOAP was gone!!!!!
She had pushed the shower curtain aside and grabbed it!! She must have hidden while she ate it, because I never saw her eating it. Didn't even see any piece's of it! Apparently she had no interest in the shower gel!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I changed my MS avatar to her pick!

  33. Morning Everyone!

Great pick EBJ! I have always been fascinated by the whole Frank Sinatra/Rat Pack era. What fun they seem to have. I had never heard this song either and really enjoyed it. Thanks!

I had what Birdee's fur baby had all day yesterday. Thankfully I didn't puke on the carpet either...

I haven't caught up on comments yet..but wanted to add my 2 cents about hot flashes...I had a hysterectomy in 2001 and started getting hot flashes six months later even though I was on HRT. I tried a lot of different things to get rid of them as I would get them a lot at night and couldn't sleep. I finally found a herbal treatment that really helps...I can certainly tell if I forget to take it....

IBB...LOL @ your our personal summer

  34. Lynndeeeee...Faster than Flo Jo??? LOL...Do I get a medal????

    ReplyDelete
  35. Good morning! Congrats on first, Lynn D!

Birdee! Poor doggy. I hope he's better soon.

LynnD, you're right about puking on the carpet! My dogs will start doing the heave-thing and run to where there's a carpet!! It's the strangest thing.

Thank goodness I'm not a flasher (yet). Maybe I will be after I lose weight. ;0)

Birdee, 21 degrees! And Jodi, did you say -3??? It's in the 40's here and I'm freezing! LOL

Hubby and I are off to a Christmas party today. I hope everyone has a great day.

  36. Well I think we should call the subblog "Having a Heat Wave" today! LOL Nice to know I am not the only one glowing with sweat!

Birdee we have a dog that is a garbage stealer also! She sneaks in and will take anything off the top of the garbage in any room! Last week she actually got into the laundry pile and I had one of Ritchie's sleepers on top because well he threw up formula. Anyway I caught her but only after she shredded the top of the PJ's. Boy was I mad! Her name is Peggy Lee but we have resorted to calling her piggy!

    ReplyDelete
  37. EBJ: ~SIGH~ Thank you for today's blog.. ~SIGH~ :)

  38. LYNND: Congrats on bein' FIRST!! How are you feeling this morning?

    IBB: Love your new avatar!

    Good Morning SHIRLEY!

SCIRISH: Wouldn't it have been fun to attend a Rat Pack show at the Sands??

    SANDIE: Enjoy your party!

TINKA: Thinking about you..hope you feel better soon.

  39. Oh my gosh, EBJ, I forgot to comment on your blog! I'm sorry!

I love that song! Thanks for starting our day with Frank.

    Hey Zona!

    ReplyDelete
  40. EBJ: Ohhh Frank Sinatra..love it! Great Sunday pic!

    LynnD: Congrats on first!

Good morning to LynnD, Birdee (and Boz), iteach, Jodi, IBB, Shirley, Sandy, Zona and anyone I may have missed in my scrolling.

Shirley: That was really thoughtful of you to leave breakfast for the slumber party girls! I was over there and grabbed a piece of toast. Thanks!

LynnD: LOL, at the name you chose to call your dog. I have a little female Pom, Chloe, she eats anything. We call her "junk yard dog" (she thinks she is a german shepherd and could whoop any dog and she eats anything!).

Well, all I have to run, sis and I are going shopping again. I finally bought myself a new pair of Jeans yesterday (at Old Navy, if you saw their commercial on their special price of jeans yesterday). I am so excited because I could by REGULAR size clothes and not plus size for the first time in over 8 years! I bought and fit into a size 16. Okay, so that is probably no big deal to some of you, but it is a really big deal for me. I am wearing them today, I was afraid this morning that they wouldn't fit..but low and behold, they still DO!! ;) When I told Mr. Bebbi that he said, "What did you do, eat all night?"..lol.

    Have a great day everybody.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Zona...Ohhhhh Yeah! There is a tribute type traveling show that I read about AFTER they had been here. But I wonder if they could possibly capture the Rat Pack essence.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Birdee: I have had some bad ones. What surprises me is how quickly they come on. It is really embarassing when they happen at work! Mine are not nearly as bad as yours, but they still are very uncomfortable!

I hate the ones at night, when you wake up and are just dripping with sweat. I can feel them coming on, it is like a burning that starts from the center of me. Bummer to know they will still go on even after the monthly visitor stops.

    ReplyDelete
  43. IBB: I like the "I am my own personal summer" that made me laugh. I might use that when I have one at work if its okay with you.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Happy Sunday!!

    Lynn - congrats on first!!!

EBJ - thank you for your song selection today!!

Birdee - SO sorry that you have a sick "baby" and I agree with Lynn - they NEVER hit the hardword or tile!! It's always the carpet OR (in our case), the bed while you are sleeping!!! YUCK!!!

Shirley - I'm sure that Tina thanks you for providing breakfast for the slumber party girls!!

Jodi - I won't depress you with our warm weather!! :-0

IBB - get to that baking - I would REALLY enjoy a lemon pound cake!!
    :-)

    Iteach - good morning!!

Scirish - Lynn is gaining on you!!

Sandie - lol at "not a flasher".. have fun at your party!!! Be careful - on Friay nite as we left Mr. MEK's Christmas party - the police had set up a sobriety check point right as you turned out of the resort!!! They were quite busy!!!

Zona - I knew you would love today's selection!!

Bebbi - congrats on your success - 50 pounds that is great... and - I LOVE pampered chef!!! that's a story for another day..

Dianne - thank you for sharing your snow with me!!

Just thought some of you may like the book.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Good morning!

Glad you all liked that song!

Congrats to Lynn D for being first!

IBB your "personal summer" really cracked me up!

I started getting hot flashes about 4 years ago (first one was while we were at a Fleetwood Mac concert).

It scared the CRAP outta me, because I felt like I was on fire.

I still get them now and then, sometimes I'll be at work, sitting at the desk writing, other times I will be busy doing something and it happens. Luckily they never come at night.

There doesn't seem to be any particular trigger to set them off, just breathing! haha

I haven't been "on the rag" for about 7 months (YIPEE) and the flashes have not eased up.

I talked to my gyn dr. about them and she recommeded something from the health food store called "black cohash". I never did try it but I've talked to other people who say it works really well.

Birdee, I hope Boz is feeling better today.

Paula occasionally throws up, and seems to enjoy doing it on our bed! Luckily the comforter has a washable cover. I know better than to have a nice or expensive bed spread on there.

Bebbi congrats on the jeans, that is wonderful!

MEK did you find out what happened at your neighbors???

IBB have fun baking today! That sounds like a nice way to spend the day.

Weather is cold and grey again this morning, and I'm doing laundry.

Hope everyone has a nice day today!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Happy Sunday Owls.

EBJ, Thanks for the Sinatra selection.

    LynnD, congrats on #1.

Birdee, I hope Boz feels better. I never heard of a dog eating soap. It couldn't have tasted very good. When I was in San Diego 'sitting' with my grand dog, I had to keep all the doors closed too. He did get into the bathroom trash once and there were Kleenex bits all over the place. He was in BIG trouble. He hid from me for a couple of hours.

IBB, Love your new avatar. I want some sugar cookies.

Bebbi, My friends call me the Pampered Chef queen. My fav item is the chopper. My last party was a 'Jimmy Buffet' party and we served margaritas. People buy more when there is alcohol involved. LOL

Tina & Turtle, I paid $1.69 for gas today and I thought of both of you.

We have a very busy nest today and I'm waving wildly at all of you. BBL

    ReplyDelete
  59. DIANNE - What time does the game start and who do we play today? I have my shirt on and I'm ready to WIN!!!

EBJ~Thanks for sharing. Loved the 'scruffy' Frank at 1:23. From which movie?

    Zona: 'Name that movie!'

Area 51: Big "Miss you" hugs to Joey and Mo. Lynn, as always, you cracked me up with "Lady Fingers".

    Birdee~Poor Boz. Poor YOU!

IBB~You look so festive! Luv it. p.s. At work, 'IT' was always "private summer". :~)

Bebbi~Yes, 'regular' sizes ARE a big deal!

    Scirish~Feelin' better?

SacBarb~How 'bout you come fill my Pampered Chef Trifle Bowl with a little something special for dessert tonight?

  67. Hi, everybody!

Just a fly-by today... Mr Whabbear lost access to the wireless network in his building he was using, and won't get his own! So I'm typing this from an apple store in Jonestown mall!

See ya all tomorrow... WB Joey!

    ReplyDelete
  68. EBJ Thanks for the great song today. I used to love this song back in the 60's when it would come on the radio. It wasn't the Sinatra version then, though. I think it must have been the Matt Monro version. Loved it!

Bebbi You rock! I have been stuck at 25 lbs forever but you are giving me inspiration to get serious about weight loss again.

Birdee My cat vomited this morning, too. She actually did it on the hardwood floor. She's old so she probably couldn't make it to a rug on time. LOL

    Jodi 3???? OMG!!!!

Regarding hot flashes, I really lucked out in that department. I only had a few mild ones. Enough to kick the blankets off but no sweating. My mom had it easy, too, so maybe it's hereditary. I do think I was a little more moody during that time and got my feelings hurt more easily.

I'm loving everyone's holiday avatars. Very cute! I decorated my MS page but haven't done crap around here for the holiday!

About Pampered Chef, I do have the large fry pan with glass lid and I use it all the time. Love it! I have the chopper which I may have used once but I find it annoying. The stone bar pan I finally threw away as I never used it for anything. I do have the stone square casserole type dish which I only use for brownies. I spent more money than I'm getting use out of, that's for sure.

    ReplyDelete
  69. LYNND: I hope the doctor can give you something to help you feel better!

MEK: Turned on the heat last night!

    SACBARB: SWAK!! :)

BON'O: I want to say "Manchurian Candidate"...but it could be "Von Ryan's Express", though I think he was heavier in the latter. I give..which movie is it??

    TINA: 3 actually... :o :o :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. TINA: Hmmmm...that didn't look right.. ;)

  71. Large plate of still warm Chocolate Chip cookies on the counter... and a large pitcher of ice cold milk!!!!!!

  72. Don't even get me started on pampered chef...
I used to sell the stuff....I have 2 of most things.... you know ... 1` for my kitchen and 1 to take to shows...
it was fun for a while... thosse stones got heavy to lug around...
I used my mini fluted stone today to make the pound cakes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. I have some Pamper Chef and I love it.

I always use my pizza stone for everything.

I don't know the name for this utensil, but I use it to grind my hamburger meat. It is my favoite!!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oh, no, hubby just told me my mom is coming over.

Time to go put the dirty dishes in the stove and take swat at all the cobwebs.

    See ya tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  75. ITEACH - I do the same thing!!!

IBB - I have never sold Pampered Chef...but you wouldn't know it by my kitchen!!! Love my square stone pan and pizza stone!!! And as funny as it sounds I triple love the clip-it thingys!!! I can never have enough of them. :D Thanks for the cookies!!

    ReplyDelete
  76. JUST LIN - So sorry about your cat. Good thing you have him trained to puke on the hardwood floor!!

ZONA - 3?!!? Are you winning? Remember.....be the ribbon, love the ribbon!!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. Back from shopping! :) I got some good deals too.

iteach: I never sold the stuff, but I had a party or two. It has been several years since I bought anything. I just love their stuff. LOL, about throwing the dishes in the stove. too funny!!

Sacbarb: LOL, about buying more when liquored up! That sure sounds like a fun party!! My favorite is the bar pan and the chopper. My stepmom recently moved back in with my Dad in Tennessee. She chokes on food really bad. I told my sis we needed to go in together and get him one for Christmas. I got my friend to get us one and my dad is like Super in love with it. He really likes it. I swear, we should have gotten him one years ago!

JustLin: 25 lbs is great! I am sure you had a lot less to lose than I do.It isn't easy, that is for sure!

Bon'o: I know. Regular clothes really are. There is a very funny story about last night when I went with my sister. We decided we were going to get 18's to try on. I thought, what they heck, I will get a couple of 16's but I didn't say anything to my sister because it would be embarrassing if they didn't fit, ya know? So, I tried on an 18 and it seemed like it was just a little big. I tried on a 16 and it fit perfectly. I went out to show my sister but I didn't say anything because I was afraid if I did she would not give me the same opinion as she might if she didn't know. She said they looked great. I said, "Are you sure they are not too tight" and she said no. Well,I never had the heart to tell her they were 16's because I didn't want to look like I was bragging. So on the way home, she says, "Well, good thing you got them for 12.00, since you will probably be in a 16 soon.". I still haven't told her. We went to another store today and I tried on some more 16's and they were too big! But I didn't like the style anyway, so I didn't go and get the 14 (and besides, that would be pushing it!). Anyway, thanks for understanding how "regular" size clothes meant a lot to me.

    EBJ, Mek& IBB: Thanks!!

Well, I probably missed some comments. I am going to go back and check later. I have a Christmas dinner to attend so I am out and about again. I will BBL.

Tina: I just want to say that what you had to say to me makes me really feel more a part of the nest than ever before and I appreciate that so much. I always felt on the fringes a little bit but your acceptance has changed that somehow for me and I want to thank you again for that. I have in an exceptional mood all day! I feel like Sally Field when she won the Oscar,,"You really DO like me"...hehe. Okay, maybe not that bad, but close!

    BBL

Bebbi Hello? I know Tina is the Ho-iest of the Ho's, but what are the rest of us? Chopped chickenowl? (Sorry, Birdee) We like you, we really like you, no matter what size jean you wear. :)

I went to the gross-ry store and stocked up. At least a lot of things seem to be at sale prices.
I'm going to try to get back to eating mostly chicken (again, sorry Birdee) and vegetables. As for that piece of carrot cake I bought.....carrot is a vegetable, right?

  107. I am back! What a fun party.

JustLin, Everyone on here is wonderful! I just got to know the Tina~ho better in the last day or so, and I appreciate her more. And when you can bond more with your fellow owl, it makes you want to Hoot for joy..(get it?,,,okay really corny!).

I picked up some cute Pink Owl PJs today! I am going to wear them on Christmas morning in honor of all the Hooter friends I have made this year. I will take a picture for everyone to see. I couldn't pass them up, I was telling my sister about everyone here and how nice you all are.

Carol: I always feel welcome and felt welcome at the nest, I just am glad to get to know another one of us more personally is all.

Jodi: Thanks! I like "having a moment" too. I will definately use that one as well.

Mek: I didn't mean to miss your post earlier. Thanks for the congrats on the jeans and I would love to hear your pampered chef stories some day when you have the time. Yesterday, when my sister and I came back from shopping, her dogs had dug in the trash and got taco bell wrappers all over the place. Her 13 year old son was home and he was clueless that they had done it. I am glad my dogs don't dig in the trash..they just bark and one nips at people! You've heard the term ankle biter, right? Well, that is my Bandit. He's an ankle biter.

Also, what ever happened with the police and all earlier today?

I only got 8,122 steps today.

  108. IBB: When you did the shows, did you make any of those cool wreath shaped food that you make with the canned biscuit mix? I love those things. I bet those stones did get heavy to lug around!

    ReplyDelete
  109. IBB: I said canned biscuit mix..I actually meant refrigerated..not canned! Long day here, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Well long day over and I am NOT done baking... back to work tomorrow.....

will be one of the busiest shipping days of the year!!

LynnD... I have been singing the song
"Were having a heat wave .. A tropical Heat wave".. all afternoon...
    Thanks...

Bebbi- I knew exactly what you meant!!!
    kinda scary huh!!???

hope everyone has a great rest of the night... and a good monday...

  111. Waving howdy!!!!

EBJ and Bebbi - (and anyone else that was wondering) - we still don't know what happened next door. One person was hauled off in the ambulance. The cops were there for a VERY long time..

When i got home tonight - Mr. MEK said that several neighbors said they were waiting for the paddy wagon to show up!! guess they must have hidden pretty well!!

I just hope it is not something serious....... and that the gentleman is okay!!

Bono - YES, the "EERS won!!! they tried really hard to lose it!!

Zona - NOT the heat - OH NO, Mr. Bill!!!

Dianne - The Broncos WON!! I'm in shock!!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. Bebbi -

my very first pampered chef party experience - I had never been and they made one of those cherry ring things on the "stone" - I "bit" and bought that, the pizza cutter and a mini scraper...

got my order - made a pizza on the stone - Mr. MEK told me it was the best pizza I had ever made!!

SO - the PC lady was pressuring me into booking a party...

    splitting up this post..

    ReplyDelete
  113. I said - what if no one wants to come - she said - you just send out invitations to EVERYONE and someone will come...

SO - I sent out invitations to work, friends, church, neighbors, you name it......

(in the meantime - the PC Lady (who was the "leader PC lady" decided that since I was a "rookie" hostess that she would pass my party to a BRAND new consultant)...

She came to my house to go over how the party would work and that we would make a taco ring.

i got 45 RSVPs - YES, 45 people coming to my house for a PC party!!

The gal called - asked me how many people - I said 45 and asked - shouldn't we make more that ONE taco ring - she said - NO, one will be fine - (WTF)......

SO - the night of the party - it snowed - pretty bad. All but three people DID show up....... the house was FULL of people..

the little gal looked at me and said - there are 40 people here - I said . DUH - i TOLD you 45 people had RSVP'd... she said - my director said - oh - that's how many invitation she sent out - not the number coming to the party - I said NOOOOOOOOOOOOO - that was the total -....... geez.

she was NOT prepared - didn't have enough catalogs, ONE taco ring does NOT feed 40 people.... thank God I had purchased lots of snacks, etc.......

The party was over $1,000 - so this new gal that was totally unprepared - got the "Golden Pin" for a LARGE party!!!!!!!

When the director called me to see how things went - I let her know and she said that it was HER fault cuz she had NEVER heard of 40 people coming to ONE party!!

I earned ALOT of free stuff from that party...

    ReplyDelete
  114. After that first party - the gals that I worked with decided that we would have a party every quarter when the new catalog came out..

noone wanted to have them at their houses - mine was set up perfect - kitchen island off the family room.

I kept trying to get others to have the party - cuz of the free stuff - but noone cared...

SO - i earned almost everything FREE!!!

when we moved to AZ - i did try my hand at being a consultant - but I would much rather have the party!!

and - YES, i have double of alot of things!!! too many things!!!

    ReplyDelete
  115. One more funny pampered chef story and it JUST happened on Thanksgiving Day!!

When I arrived at my mom's house to peel potatos - IBB was on the phone and I told her that I brought my OWN potato peeler, cuz mom's is about 100 years old - IBB said - is it the PC peeler? I said, no, it's tupperware, I don't have the PC peeler!!

WELL -mr. mek heard me say - "I don't own the PC potato peeler". He came out of the living room and very dramatically put his hand on his head, then checked my head for a temperature and said "WHAT, you don't own something that PC makes?"

you had to be there - but it was hysterical.......... cuz it is VERY shocking that I didn't own it!

okay - that is the all the stories I will share tonight...

    ReplyDelete
  116. The weekend flew by..

i hope everyone has an excellent monday!!!
    :-)

    nite!!!

    ReplyDelete
  117. IBB - i'm so glad that you got all that baking done...

    ReplyDelete
  118. YEA>>>>THE BRONCOS WON...MEK, it didn't start out pretty but it was kind of a good game to watch and if we can just win one more OR if SD can lose one we are the AFC West Champs!! JODI, thank you for wearing your shirt for the cheering call. I will see if I can get the network to send those games to you since you have turned into such a great fan.

ZONA: Are you ready to switch yet? Sticks and stones can break my bones, etc. Want at least a hat?

Did anyone watch the Hallmark movie tonight? It was really good on CBS and did bring a tear or two to my eye. First, I watched the finale of Amazing Race (was pleased with who won) and then the movie. ARace finale always brings tears to me like Miss America pagent..:)

I was going to do cards all day and didn't even take them out. The next two days may bring snow and then I will stay home and do them....maybe!

BEBE: Congratulations on your new jean size. How exciting for you. I doubt I will ever get to see those days again!

JUST/LIN AND LANI: WOW..Congrats on the 49ers beating the Jets today!! Two losses in a row for them from Broncos and 49ers!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Dianne Once again, I forgot to watch the Niner game. Everytime I do, they win! I wonder if there's a connection.
