Blogger Confessional

8th Grade

By Lois Lane

Even if you aren't Catholic there's times in life when you want to spill out your confessions to cleanse your conscience. Today is that day for me.

Forgive me bloggers, for I have sinned. It has been one week since my last real visit to the nest. I wish I could say I have been busy working or taking a lovely vacation with family, but truth is, I've been cheating on all of you.

*Hangs head in shame*

You see, it all started when one of my old classmates recognized my photo on Facebook. Even though I go by a moniker, there was no hiding this mug of mine.

Once I came out of my state of shock, I answered and accepted him as a friend. Before long, the majority of my 8th grade class was back in my life as if they'd never left. I've spent every free internet moment catching up on the last 20-plus years of their lives. Which is reason #1 why I haven't been here.

It amazes me what the mind can dig up. You see a thumbnail photo of a friend and a flash of information takes over the mind. Memory lane has been good to me.

It's funny that this specific group of people from so long ago, were some of the closest friends of mine. I believe because in elementary school (it was a k-8 school) we went through so many stages and phases, and they were there through it all.

By the time high school came along, we had already changed. Many moved away. New friends didn't get to learn as much about who we were or where we came from. College friends and adult friends never got to know the internal workings of our lives either.

The older we get, the more guarded we become. If we could open ourselves up and just be, like we were so long ago, we would all have too many friends to count.

The internet, my blog, this blog are a few of the places where I've let my guard down, offering up the real me. I believe that is why I feel so close to you all, and why I feel so guilty about not being here lately.

If you're on Facebook, please add me. My name is Lois Twater, which is a story in itself. Facebook wouldn't accept Lois Lane as a real name. Since I am cautious about my real identity online, putting my real name wasn't an option. So I asked my teenaged son for some help.

"Find me a name as close to Lois Lane as you can."

Within seconds, I was Lois Twater.

Our real last name causes teenaged boys to call my son twat and twater, among many other fun nicknames. When my son had his Facebook account, he went by Harry Twater. Yes, I'm so proud. Anyhow, that's where the name came from.

I've missed you all, and will be back just as soon as I catch up with my past, or visa versa.

  2. Harry Twater???? ROTFLMAO!!!! I LOVE it!

  3. LL...So cool that you got a chance to reconnect with the people from that time of your life. I often wonder how the people I was close to then are doing. We shared so many "secrets" with each other and thought we would never lose track of each other. Unfortunately, my Father did not hold them in the same regard and intercepted my mail when we moved away. *sigh*

  4. I have to run and get my daily water dance done. My new door is being installed in about an hour. Although, I'm not sure how they are going to do it with the ice slick formerly known as steps.

  5. Good Morning Hooters!

Scrishy- good to see you back as #1

Lois- love your son's Harry Twater. He sounds like a kid with a great sense of humor.
I think it is fantastic that you are catching up with your old friends. NO need to apologize for being away. We all have lives outside the nest, and we need not apologize for them.

Just know you are missed when you are not here!

There is one person who I would love to find. She was my best friend in Kindergarten and my neighbor. She gave me a pin that I still have when we moved away. I have always felt guilt about her.

She was left home for 5 minutes while her mom took her sister to piano lessons down the street. She climbed up into one of those wicker hanging chair things and had on a little polyester dress. And matches.

She was horribly burned and was in the hospital for a long time. When she came home my dad made a big cake (he was a pastry chef) and we took it over. I was so excited, but had been warned that she looked different. My little mind didn't get it until I saw her and recoiled in horror. I was scared to death of her because of her scaring.

I slowly came around and we played again (at her house, she couldn't come out into the sun) and by the time we moved away a year later, we were best buddies. I lost track of her over the years- I know she had a lot of surgeries to her face and hands. I would love to find her again. Maybe FACEBOOK is the answer!

Sorry for the long drawn out story.

Hope everyone has a great day.

  6. Lois: Very interesting! It makes me think about Dianne's blog yesterday. I am such a different person from when I was in 8th grade... would I still feel a connection to friends from that time, if they suddenly came into my life now? I don't know.

Please keep us informed over time as to how whether these people you've reconnected with become friends of the adult Lois Lane... er, Lois Twatter!

  7. Meanwhile, where are my manners? Good morning, scrishy and Goldie! Goldie, that was an interesting story, too!

  9. Dianne - I never did make it back yesterday to comment on your blog..

and - I thought I had - there's an "old timers" moment for you..

I find myself going into a room and not remembering why i went in there.

I find myself losing a thought in mid sentence.

I find myself being called ma'am WAY more than I would like to be.

I find myself not liking the image that I see in pictures that are taken of me.

AND - I am finding myself getting plum tuckered out by the energy of this little puppy!! geez.....

both Mr. Mek and I are not remembering either one of our other dogs having this much energy EVER!!! But - we are loving her SOOOO much - we would not trade it for anything..

I am sure there are TONS of other things that i am finding "making me old" - but I can't for the life of me remember them right now!!

    :-)

Anyway - Dianne - I loved your first blog and can't wait for the next one..

LOL! Bear, you're a hoooooot! So far the few (23) I've reconnected with, act as if no time has passed. Clicked right back in, and I really hope it stays that way. :)

    Hey hey MEK!

Awww, thanks ibebold! It's hard to explain but as he gets older, he is a lot more secure in his sense of humor. I guess he knows, mommy isn't going to freakout knowing he goes by Harry Twater. LOL! Have fun tonight! I wonder if the band has a Facbook fan page for you to signup on. LOL!

Tina thanks, and you do the same.

Thanks Lani. Actually the boy who kissed me first did find me.

He said, "Remember that day I kissed you and you shoved me down your apartment stairs?" *blushing*

    Jodi, I added you! :)

  22. Happy Friday Owls.

Lois, I loved your blog today. Earlier this month I spent a long weekend with 6 school chums. I went to elementary school with three of them and the other three we met when we all went to the same all girls high school. I reconnected with them last year and when we got together, it was as you said, we picked up right where we left off. I am so happy that we were able to get together and we have vowed to do it at least annually from now on.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Scirish, You are running away with first place for firsts.

Goldie, I hope you can find your friend.

Bear, I was disappointed that I wasn't able to see the planet last night. Too many trees around my house. I suppose if I climbed on the roof, but then I probably wouldn't be here to tell about it.

MEK, Soon, very soon, you will get to sleep.

IBB, Have fun with your friends.

Lani, I am up for AHMSSSSSSS.......

Jodi, thanks for the glazer donuts.

Waving a wing at all who land later. Have a good day everyone.

    :-)

and - speaking of Tug - she ASKED to go out today!! I just about did the happy dance!!

she had been playing - and for one second - I lost track of her and there she was at the backdoor -

  28. SacBarb, Venus should be high enough in the sky, right around sunset, to be visible even if you have trees! First locate the crescent moon, then look to the right of it for Venus.

  29. Bear, Thanks, I'll look tonight.

I would like to see Mike-my first kiss on my finger and then first kiss on my lips..then he didn't talk to me anymore (and he lived across the atreet for years). Many years later I hear he married a "Dianne". Guess he never got over me~:)

LANI: Great bring some good snacks and find JUSTLIN as she is always bragging about her baton twirling. We need red flags on them!

    ReplyDelete
  41. JODI, perfect. I was wondering if you could take a picture of yourself in the cheer squad outfit for your avatar and MARY/MI...how about a picture of your tatoo in place?

You would think MEK AND ZONA would jump in here soon for their costumes since they are true Card people! Maybe we could even find a cute little outfit for TUG and NIKKI.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Dianne - Sign me up for the cheer squad!!(even though i will ALWAYS be a Bronco fan - first and foremost!!!!)........

AND - I refuse to dress my dog in any little outfits!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Dianne: Sign me up for cheerleading duties! I do NOT want the Steelers to win that game... if they do, they take over first place in total number of super bowl wins, leaving the Niners in their dust!

JUST LIN and CAROL...thanks for the QOTD!!

MEK...happy dancing for you and Tug. I just looked at your pics...she is TOO ADORABLE!

DIANNE...I wanna be a cheerleader, too! But does that mean I have to watch the game???? LOL! I think it would be very appropriate if BrrrDEEEEEE is the mascot...since she is a bird! She can fly around and poop on the Steelers!

Waving a wing at all of you that have landed already!

    ReplyDelete
  63. TINA, Does this mean you will be too tired to twirl anything tonight at the HOdown?

  67. Dear Lois Twater, (that has a ring to it.)-
I am reminded of the song, 'Make new friends, but keep the old...one is siver and the other's gold.'
( of course at my age, I'm always the OLD friend. :)
    ~
    Congrats on 1st Scirish!
( I should just copy and paste that, so I don't have to keep typing it. :)
    ~
    Dianne/Denver-
Did you say, "Practice combined with happy hour?"
    SIGN ME UP!
I can cheer and twirl, but you aren't going to make us practice high kicks are you? I wouldn't want to take a chance on spilling my drink. ;)

  68. Bear, I saw Venus in all her glory and called Sharon to tell her to go look. I thank you and Sharon thanks you, too. She also asked about the new telescope that will replace the Hubble. I don't know anything about it. Can you enlighten us?

    ReplyDelete
  69. SacBarb - thanks for providing the adult beverages..

Jax - we'll have to get lids for our cups..

AND - I'm putting my pom-poms down and going to bed now... I know, i's only 9pm...

  70. scirish Good job on getting here first today!

LL/NoNewz Fun blog and I love the pic! I did keep in touch with those classmates that I was closest to. Unfortunately, two of them passed away quite a while ago. I am still in touch with the girl who was my best friend from 4th grade through high school. And then there is Custard who I've known since we were 7. He's known me longer than anyone except my family.

MEK It sounds like Tug is a smart little girl. That's great!

Dianne I'm here with my baton at the ready!

    ReplyDelete
  71. OK...LINE UP CHEERLEADERS AND TWIRLERS IN THE BACK...

SACBARB, I had to go and eat with MrD and now I am ready to practice.

LANI: This is not the HOdown tonight...it is practice for the Super Bowl on Sunday.

MO: You have to watch the game..that's what cheerleaders do and we are guarding the football players too...you know, just to make sure they are safe.

BEAR: You can be a cheerleader. I hope you will be able to twirl the tassels or a baton...your choice.

JAX; Welcome to the squad. Don't worry, no high kicks, no splits. I thought we would just shake and twirl and smile and yell, "go Cards." You still in...?

Are any of you East Coast Owls for the "other" team?

Oh, I forgot to tell you all something very very important. JOHN ELWAY (DENVER BRONOCS) is going to do the coin flip at the game. This is an important deal for the cheerleaders...I will be "guarding" him.

    ReplyDelete
  72. JUST/LIN: Bout' time you showed up. I was going to have to fill your spot with another twirler.

MEK: It's too early to leave practice...we are just starting. I guess you can come back when TUG wakes you up.

ZONA: Where the heck are you? I know you don't have that swimming pool open yet!

    ReplyDelete
  73. DIANNE...east coaster for the Steelers?????? Not this one! The Steeler's / Brown's rivalry is ginormous!! GO CARDS!

I have on my little pleated skirt, sweater, white sox and saddle shoes...tassles are frozen so it would be like twirling icicles! Oh, and a parka, snowpants and galoshes!! What a lovely and sexy picture, doncha think? LOL

    ReplyDelete
  74. SacBarb: Yep! It's called the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), and I think it's scheduled for launch in 2013 (maybe 2012?).

JWST's mirror will be something like 4 times the size of Hubble's. However, we won't be seeing the same beautiful photos from it, because it's designed to gather light in the "near infrared", at wavelengths just a little longer than those that our eyes (and Hubble's mirror) are sensitive to.

Why infrared? JWST's unbelievable sensitivity will allow us to image galaxies and other phenomenon within the first billion years after the Big Bang, with much higher resolution than Hubble is capable of. Over the billions of years that the light from these objects has been traveling toward us, it has been stretched by the expansion of the universe to the point where much of it is arriving in the infrared range.

I can't wait for JWST to launch, and the discoveries to start rolling in!

Glad you and Sharon was able to see Venus! I had a total blast at work yesterday afternoon... I sent out a similar message to the people in my division about seeing Venus that I posted in the nest. Next thing I knew, almost everybody in my building was heading outside to catch a glimpse. Some of my coworkers thought it was so cool to see a planet in the daytime that they called their kids and got them to do it too!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I will guard the full back...since I have a FULL backside!

rah rah rah sis boom bah

    ReplyDelete
  76. i am bedecked in my cute little outfit ;)

    ReplyDelete
  77. My pom poms are not really Steeler yellow...they are really Cards red...squint and imagine and you will see that, too!!

  78. MO, You look beautiful. You don't have to really be in your tassels until Sunday and I can so picture your red pom poms. I think your tassels will thaw out in Florida. I would suggest you not wear any of your Cleveland Brown shirts..just sayin' to be safe.

Ok...here is the squad...MEK, LANI, MO, JUSTLIN, MARY, BEAR, TINA,JAX,SACBARB, JODI AND myself. There is still time to sign up but not much as we are running out of uniforms.

  79. MO. I see red pom poms if I squint really hard.

We all look so cute in our red short pleated skirts and sweaters. Even you Bear.

I also brought some red and white M&Ms for an energy snack.

    RAH RAH SIS BOOM BAH

    GOOOOOOOOOOO TEAM

  80. Umm SACBARB, I hate to tell you but we are not wearing sweaters. We have red tassels and we are swinging them. The sweater is only for practice sessions. I also wanted to tell you NOT to bring any of the Raider stuff! BTW, I saw that "bad" sign you sent ZONA. Can you believe she has it hanging next to the Wizard Of OZ sign that I sent her? A Raider by Dorothy!!!

  83. Dianne, I thought the sweaters would keep us warm in the cool air. The tassels are for day time.

The Raider sign belongs in a prominent place in Zona's house. After all, she is a true Raiders fan.

BTW, Zona where the heck are you?????

  84. SACBARB, ZONA may be a Raider fan but MR Z is a Bronco fan and I think I have pictures (maybe) to prove it. I just have to figure out how to get them on my computer from my trusty disposable camera!

  99. Good Morning Owl's!!

    How is everyone today?

Dianne, loved your "first" blog! Congrats! I'm still trying to come up with a topic to write about....nothing but "blanks"! LOL

Lois, Glad you reconnected with old friends! Fun!

I really only stay in contact with one friend from high school. She's the best and I love her energy and out look on life.

MEK, Tug is just so cute! congrats to her for asking to go out.
I've hung bell's on my doors and taught Boz and Ruby to ring them when they want out. Pepper refuses to ring them..I think she is afraid of them. I love to watch them ring the bell's. It's cute.

Mo, I'd be glad to be the Mascot, if needed. ;o)

I'll try and be back later....Mr. B maybe using the comp. His dad was not very smart and opened a email from soneone he didn't know and got a bad virus. So, Mr. B brought it home to see what he can do.
    So far, not looking good.

Off to see if I can be first on today's blog!! Ha! scirish!!!
