Shopping Trips to Costco!

by Bebbi

Well, I went and did it. I got a membership to Costco even though Sam’s is right around the corner from my house and my mom works there. I have to say, I have had the membership less than a month and I have had so much fun cheating on SAM!

My place of employment had a special offer for employees; if you join at Costco you get a booklet full of coupons to make it worth your while. I haven’t got the coupons yet, they will come in 2-4 weeks. They did give me a $10 gift card for joining too. That was so nice of them!

Someone wrote a blog a few days ago about “unexpected pleasures” or things that turned out to be less than what was anticipated, well, Costco has brought me a lot of joy and has been even more fun that I ever imagined!

First off, I went with Mr. Bebbi and we looked all around. I got so many steps in, and I enjoyed seeing the different items and trying the Costco samples. We stayed for several hours. At their snack bar, they have Churros instead of Pretzels and they still have Polish Sausage which Sam’s quit carrying a while back. I like the Churros a lot and Mr. Bebbi likes to get a Polish now and again. The drink cups are smaller but that is fine, free refills both places! Mr. Bebbi loves to tease me about the snack bar. I always enjoy getting a soda and a snack while I shop!

After my awesome trip with Mr. Bebbi, my daughter and her boyfriend hadn’t been so we went to look around! We walked and walked all the aisles, comparing prices again. I bought a couple of things I saw the first time that I was still pondering. We figured out that the size made a differences when we compared to Sam’s so we would have to keep that in mind when comparison shopping. My daughter commented on how surreal it was to be in a place that looked so much like Sam’s and yet was different. They didn’t have as many half prices deals after Christmas like Sam’s did. I guess they didn’t over buy some items.

Okay, so the next trip was with my Mother! I stayed overnight with her and we decided that we would go and look around at Costco the next day. She and I walked the whole store again. She really enjoyed it because no one that she worked with was there and she bought a few things. We split a piece of pizza. It was really fun.

Okay, so the next time I went was last night [Sat. January 2, 2009], I took my daughter’s boyfriend’s grandmother! Okay, I know that is a stretch, but I enjoy so much going and walking around and looking at everything!! We walked all around, looking at all the stuff again. I bought some more items that I was pondering. I called my mom at Sam’s and we compared the prices of peanut butter. The peanut butter at Sam’s was two 40 oz for $7.07 and the peanut butter at Costco was two 48 oz for $8.48. That makes it exactly the same price per ounce regardless of which you purchase ($0.09). Silly huh? Well, I guess I win the prize on the blog for most price comparison shopping! Also, did you know that the Joint Juice was $0.17 cheaper at Sam’s than Costco’s for the exact same item! Too fun, huh!!

The next planned trip is with my son and his girlfriend. She is a Costco virgin and my membership is going to get her in! I can’t wait!

What places do you enjoy to go and shop/look around? What big unexpected pleasures did you get out of something that you didn’t expect? Do you comparison shop? Okay, enough questions, I hope you enjoyed my shopping experiences at Costco!! Woo hoo hoo!

  3. Morning Glories!

Lol Scrishy got her first first of the New Year! I think we are tied. :)

Bebbi I loved your blog about Costco! I think your neighbor might like a chance for the tour also! LOL

I renewed our membership in November. We had not had one in years. Our daughter shops there all the time, actually she used to work for them many years ago and is friends with the manager at our store.

We don't go alot as it is about a 1/2 hour drive from our house but I do love to go browse and see what is new. Mr. Lynn D is our comparison shopper, I guess I should send him with you because he drives me crazy he reads a label like a novel and and checks the price per ounce. Me if I think I need it or want I just buy it. Drives him crazy but that goes two ways.

I was surprised we went just after xmas and our store is carrying furniture. I saw a couch I really liked at a great price.

I need to make a trip by myself however because it seems the things I want to look at no else does and I always miss stuff.

I have to be careful with impulse buying there too. It seems like I can't get out of the place without spending under $200.00 dollars.

Oh if anyone needs bar-b-que sauce I just bought the jumbo pack and have plenty!

  4. Hi LYNND: Can you tell I am missing all of you? I read but not able to post. I really have to go now or I will make my SIL late for work. Yesterday the girls slept until 1PM when I woke them....maybe I can get in a AM nap today!

Hi to everyone that flies in today. Thanks for posting for me ZONA>

  6. Good Morning again!

  7. Congrats on first, Scirish! Be careful going to your doctor appt.!!

Bebbi, I enjoyed your blog!! Can you take ME next time? I had a Costco membership when we lived in MD but we don't have a Costco here. There are rumors of one coming but I think it's just a rumor at this point. I miss Costco! I was just at Sam's yesterday buying a ton of food for my college son to take back to school.

Dianne, we miss you, too! I hope your granddaughters are better real soon.

Hi LynnD! My hubby and I are just like you and your hubby! He looks at every label and I buy what I need/want and get out of there!

I'm off to get a pedicure with my Mom. Have a good day, owls.

  11. Good morning!

Bebbi I love you blog and I love Costco!

In Sept. a new Costco opened up in the city next to us. It is supposedly the largest Costco in northern Calif! It has a gas station too, which I hear is about 10 cents a gallon less than other stations.

We seldom get over there, but order lots of stuff from their web site.

Much of the merchandise has free shipping. We get vitamins, cases of TP, Tide laundry soap.

Every time I go there, I spend way more than I plan. One time MR. EBJ went to get a couple things, and came home with a new clothes dryer.

I have never been to Sams Club, I am not sure if there are any near here.

Gotta have some coffee, I'll be back!

  12. Happy WEdnesday!!!

    Good Morning.......

    Scirish - congrats on FIRST!!

Dianne - I can't believe you are up this early - in Denver!! - How are the girls doing?? i pray, better!!

Lynn - I need some BBQ sauce - didn't realize we had run out!!
    :-)

waving howdy to Scirish, Dianne, Lynn D, Sandie, Whabby, and all who land...

I hope everyone has an excellent day!!!
    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  13. EBJ - howdy - you and I were typing at the same time...

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bebbi - I had to chuckle when I saw the title of the blog!!

We have memberships to both Sam's Club AND Costco.....

mr. mek triple loves shopping at both and i HATE it..... OH - it's always SO crowded and just not my idea of a good time!! He LOVES that you can get samples while you shop!!!

We used to call it the $100 store - but it's now to the point where $300.00 is about what we can get out of there spending..... very sad.

I think we have enough toilet paper and paper towels to last a life time!!

Costco carries Skippy peanut butter, which is Mr. Mek's FAV - and Sam's club carries JIFF, which is Mine!! - I think that is why we have membership to both!! LOL

Just last week -I did happen into Costco just to purchase a scrapbook thing that I had heard they sell - AND - AMAZINGLY, i walked in there - bought the paper and left with just ONE thing - and less than 25.00!! i felt as if I had won!!!

    ;-)

  15. Now - for MY shopping pleasure - I'm sure you ALL know by now..

anything Scrapbooking/Card making related. it's like a HIGH that I just can't explain!!!

I can't seem to get enough of it - even though - it has been decided that I DO own it all......

    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  16. just lin - from last night -

i don't think plungerboy's mom has ANY idea the extent of what i own. or that i wear the "crown"..

Heck, maybe my next purchase will be a tiara!!!

    :-)

  17. Lynn D: There is a couch I want too! It is the sectional. Here it is $799. I have to wait till tax money though and just hope its still there.

Thanks for the comments. I had to come look.

Carol: Thanks for getting the pics up too.

I am on lunch right now, going to continue reading comments.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Mek: I saw their scrapbook stuff, very nice! Also, my Mom works as one of the sample ladies at Sams! We always go when the samples are out. It is our lunch sometimes!

Do you go to the snack bar? I like the Churros better than the pretzels for a snack, when I get something.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Mek: My mom got me the huge suitcase full of scrapbook stuff for Christmas. They sold them at Sams and she got them when they marked it down to $35.00. I am sure you probably saw them. They were big brown & black suitcases with rollers filled with scrapbook stuff. My Mom bought one for me, my daughter, my sister and my son's girlfriend. I love it. Can't wait to dive in and have a Scrapbooking day.

    ReplyDelete
  20. LynnD: I went last night by myself and looked around (also so I could take the pictures). I do like going alone because there is no pressure.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Mek: Jif is what I was comparing in the blog and both Mr. Bebbi and I only eat that. Although, he likes creamy and I like crunchy. Since he eats way more of it than I do, I only buy crunchy every once in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  22. LynnD, we do have new neighbors...haha...I might go and ask them if I get desperate! hehe ;)

  23. Good Morning to SCIRISH, DIANNE, LYNN, SANDIE, BEAR, & MEK

I have to say Costco is fun, as there is such a variety of products, however it is too easy to over do it. As a general rule I do not dilly dally when I go shopping. I usually know what I want and get it and leave. I am not good about comparison shopping. My young daughter is actually the one who pays attention to prices.

Thank you for your lighthearted & fun post today BEBBI

    ReplyDelete
  24. SCIRISH, Have a safe trip to the doctor's on all that ice.

I hope your little ones are much better today DIANNE. Your family is so blessed to have you there for them.

I am with you SANDIE on luring SHIRLEY. Come out come out wherever you are!

LYNN I'll trade you a barbecue sauce for a caesar dressing that I have too much of.

Plungerboy's mom should be down on her knees in your presence MEK.LOL

  25. *sniff*sniff*
    Is that chocolate I smell?
    *sniff*sniff*

Sorry I have been MIA. No need to worry, just not feeling chatty. I have been reading and recording all the statistics though. Mek seems to be the overall leader at the moment.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Shirley!! It worked!! LOL

I understand about not feeling chatty. We do miss you, though! You always make me laugh.

Thanks for keeping those stats. Hey, are you keeping stats for LEAST stuff?? Just askin'.

    ReplyDelete
  27. SCIRISH - Congrats on first. And I hope you take it easy on the roads.

DIANNE - I hope your GD's are feeling better very soon. It sucks when the kids are sick. They're lucky to have you!!! Miss you pretty lady!!

BEBBI - Great blog. Evidentally Costo opened in Madison, and I didn't even realize it until about 2 months ago. I haven't been there yet, but maybe I can go with GOLDIE sometime, it's not far from her house!!!

TURTLE - Are you having fun at work? I coudn't imagine the mess you're facing after being off for 3 weeks.

    ZONA - Feel better soon!!!

Waving a wing @ LYNN D, SANDIE (lol @ luring SHIRLEY!!), WHABBY, MEK, EAST BAY J, SLANI, and SHIRLEY (good to see you)!!!

  28. I best keep going here, I have to make a birthday cake for my son. I can't believe he's 12 today!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. MEK - Come on, you can say it...."my name is MEK, an I'm a scrapbooking/card making addict"!!! :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. scirish Congrats on #1.

Shirley Did you mark that down?

Dianne I'm sorry your granddaughters are still under the weather. I remember having my tonsils out when I was 4 or 5. I remember an extremely sore throat and being given ice cream. I also remember that I refused, and I do mean REFUSED, to spend the night in the hospital as there was an older boy, about 12 yrs old, who was yelling and crying and it scared me to death!

Bebbi Thanks for the fun blog. I haven't been to a Costco sice my husband passed away. He had a membership before we married and we would go once in a while and sometimes I thought it was fun. Once he passed away, I didn't renew the membership since it is not really the place to shop when you are only shopping for one. I rarely comparison shop, although if a product comes in different sizes, I will check to see which size is the better buy. It's not always the largest size!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Happy Birthday to your son, Jodi!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bebbi, I don't think we have a Cosco here. We do have a Sam's. I don't shop there. I quit buying in quantity a long time ago. Now I wait until something is almost out, and then replace. I notice that I have so much more room now that I am not using it for stocking and storing stuff. I love to shop, but my knee hates all those hard floors! If they would carpet everything I would probably spend more time shopping, so maybe my bad knee is saving me money lol!!

lANI, I rushed over to MEK's MS to see who crowned her first! It was you lol!!

Jodi~ Tell your son this old owl said "Happy Birthday"!!

Sandi, good job at bringing Shirley out lol!

    lyndd~ One bbq sauce please

    Lani~ one Caesar dressing please

    ReplyDelete
  33. Jodi Happy birthday to the young man. Are you making his favorite cake and what kind would that be. I wish I was eating cake instead of this fruit salad. :P

    ReplyDelete
  34. MARY/MI & JUST SLIN - Thanks for the b'day wishes. He said to make something that would be good with chocolate frosting, so I'm making a fudge marble cake!! Just popped it in the oven and it smells goooood!!!! :P

  35. JUST SLIN - The kids aren't here right now, so would you like to lick the beaters?!!?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Hey Shirley, good to see you!

Dianne, hope the girls are better soon :)

Jodi, MR. EBJ loves to lick beaters and spoons when I'm done. If JL doesn't want them, please give them to him! haha

Hope your guy has a fantastic birthday!

    See ya all later!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Jodi The cake sounds delicious! I would love to lick the beaters! LOL

  42. Afternoon Owls!

Well things are a mess here weather wise again. Will it never end?? No snow but we have had crazy downpour (cow pissing on a rock) rain. Several of the rivers around the state are at flood stages some at higher than ever flood stages. Seems with all of the snow and then going from two weeks of freezing and now we are in the 50's it is causing huge snow melt on top of the crazy rain. Already reports of houses being washed away. Looks WA will have flooding like last year. Just hoping it does not close I-5 again. Some of those poor people had just started to recover.

I finished at the food bank and then went and had lunch at the senior center. It is always a hoot to visit with our community seniors. Can't beat the deal for $2.50 cents I had spaghetti, Salad and garlic bread!

Wow everyone needs bbq sauce! LOL I might have to make a trip to Costco! We don't have a Sam's Club in our area.

Jodi give the birthday boy a hug from me!

Bebbi the couch I was looking at was only about 459 dollars. I did not get to look at all of the furniture when I was there as Mr. Lynn D was not interested. Geeez!

Ok need to get chores done here and then start the end of month book work.

    BBL

    ReplyDelete
  43. Thanks for the b'day wishes LYNN D!! Yummo....spaghetti with all the fixin's for 2.50!!! So sorry about the flooding....we had our fair share here last year, too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. When I did go to Costco, I would buy the 3-packs of Hershey's chocolate syrup. I had quite a thing for making chocolate milk.

    ReplyDelete
  45. It never ceases to break my heart when I see or hear about people losing their homes due to flooding, fire or any disaster. I can only begin to imagine how it must feel.
Last year the pictures out of the Midwest were horrifying. The pictures from Washington aren't looking any to great at this point either.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Okay SLIN, What is it about your discussion of food! Yesterday it was the grilled cheese sandwich courtesy of Custard. Yes, I fixed one in the afternoon. Now I am craving chocolate milk.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Slani You would be a great subjECT FOR A HYPNOTIST! (I did the caps thing in your honor. LOL)

    ReplyDelete
  48. Bebbi you crack me up! You went and took pictures at Costco! I will have to get the Olive Bruschetta (sp)!

Oboy I just looked out my bedroom window and Bob the Builder may have some problems abrewing! We wondered if he would. You see we live in a seasonal wet land area and even though he is across the street in bad years his property is in the zone map.

Our back 4 acres turns into a lake every rainy season. It does not bother us and it means no one can build back there.

We kept wondering what Thurston Co. was thinking as they have been issuing him permits left and right. Ones we can't get. Well his side yard where he has run the bulldozer and other land flattening heavy equipment incessantly the last year is now turning into a lake! His septic is in that area somewhere.

I have never seen so much water on that property ever! He has cleared out all of the trees, bushes etc... that obviously helped with drainage. I wonder whose palms this guy greased?

Mr. Lynn D is going to do an I told you so. We watched another guy do this one year on our side of the street and he ended up causing more water problems for everyone and then got a 6,000 dollar fine for disturbing seasonal wetlands and was ordered to replant. Hmmmmmmmm

Should get interesting. I think I am going to go look for some waders, and off in the distance I think I see some animals lining up in pairs.

    ReplyDelete
  49. tHankS sLIN!

    LYNN,
So now we have "Bob the Builder" If his septic overflows we better get "Plungerboy" on the job!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Lani I think we need Septic Sam! Plunger boy would be shit up a creek!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lynn: That could be another situation of trouble for the whole neighborhood!1 EEk!

Good evening everyone! The weather here is really windy, snowy and cold! Not pleasant and I can't figure out how I am going to make another 1700 steps without either freezing my butt off or spending money I don't have!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Hey Shirley, good to see you. I never get to talk anymore and haven't seen you for a while. I hope all is well with you!

    ReplyDelete
  53. BEBBI Maybe cross country skiing?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bebbi Turn up the music and dance! :) I'm forcing myself to do at least 3000 steps a day. Pretty pathetic compared to you. Keep in mind, I am a "beginner". LOL

    ReplyDelete
  55. SLIN, A beginer? Did you just learn to walk? :)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh boy where is Noah when you need him.

It looks like they will be closing I-5 about thirty minutes south of us tonight and looking more and more like I-5 about 45 minutes to an hour North of us! This is the main interstate! I-90 over the mountains is closed another main interstate because of mud and snow slides!

They are evacuting not just towns but the city of Fife!

I can't remember it being this bad before!

I have to venture out and get Mr. Lynn D! Yikes!

    Will be back! I hope!

    ReplyDelete
  57. LynnD That sounds scary! Be careful!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Lani: LOL on cross country skiing...I am just so colllllllllllllllldddddddddd....!!

Jeeze LynnD: BE CAREFUL! That is very scary!! And, that Olive Bruschetta is REALLY REALLY Good!!! You will love it.

Just Lin: I am going to have to do that..dancing would be good. I just am being too lazy today. Hershey's chocolate syrup just sits around here. We have two things of it because I bought another not knowing we didn't use the first one when I wanted to make something a while back.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Lynn D: I-5 and I-90, where do you live again? I apologize I just can't keep up with everyone's locations very well. Is that California? Sacramento?

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am going to go and google Fife..that should tell me..

    ReplyDelete
  61. Bebbi Yes, that is Washington State. :) I used to be addicted to making chocolate milk with Hershey's syrup. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I used to be addicted to vanilla ice cream with hershey's syrup, whip cream....ohhh yum...dang it..J/L..! that sounds so good!!!!!!

WE can have a bowl of cyber ice cream with hershey's syrup, whipped cream and maraschino cherries and a big tall foamy frothy glass of hershey's chocolate milk...heavy on the hersheys..hehe ...and NO CALORIES..woot woot!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Bebbi My avatar makes me smile too. Don't I look interested and attentive?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Interesting blog Bebbi! We only have Sam's Club here..I worked for them briefly many years ago lol

I always wanted to go into Costco because I saw a Dateline/Primetime story on the founder of the company once, and he is FILTHY rich, but lives like an average joe lol

He also treats his employees like humans!

I have to ask though, WTH is "joint juice"! ROFLMAO..Or do I wanna know? haha

Hope everyone is having a great Humpday! Back later to read comments!

    ReplyDelete
  67. J/L: Come on over we can dance and then eat some hersheys delights! Yes, it looks like me when I am trying to read stuff these days. I need to get some mild reading glasses and I have just finally admitted that to myself.

    ReplyDelete
  68. oh and the olive stuff looked yummy! I love anything with olives!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hey Bebbi! I made a Bebbi sandwich! ROFLMAO

    Any calories in that? haha

    ReplyDelete
  70. and Just_Lin! My, what big eyes you have hehe

    ReplyDelete
  71. Joey: Joint juice has Glucosamine in it and it is a juice you take to alleviate the pain in sore joints. I don't take that though because i don't like to drink it. I take Glucosamine and Chrondroitin (sp?)with MSM for my bad knees. It works when you get old enough to need it, like I am..lol. You can tell the younger set, they don't even know what JOINT JUICE IS!! ...

I know what you thought though Joey..and it has nothing to do with Mary Jane!

    ReplyDelete
  72. good evening feathered friends!

SCIRISH...good on you...1st again! How did the doc visit go? I hope this new doc is able to help you.

LYNN...praying for you to stay safe and dry.

JUST LIN...when I saw the QOTD, I almost choked!! Thanks ;)~

DIANNE...hope the girls are doing better. Maybe they just like having their grandma there with them.

SHIRLEY...HI! So happy to see you.

  73. A lot less calories than their used to be Joey..and now it looks like we are a BIG MAC!

    ReplyDelete
  74. ROFLMAO@Bebbi! I did "think that" haha

    Ohhhh, thanks for explaining!

    ReplyDelete
  75. (I think Mo is the lettuce)..I am the Sesame Seed buns and Joey is the all beef patties!

    ReplyDelete
  76. We will have to see who shows up next to be the special sauce!!

    ReplyDelete
  77. lmao@all beef patties! You got 90 Bebbi lol

  84. BEBBI...fun blog! You sure do love your Costco! They should give you some more gift cards for all the advertising you do for them!

I have a Sam's just down the road from me...7 minutes if I make the lights! And I NEVER go! The COSTCO is about 45 minutes away...I never go there, either! And we have BJ's about 25 minutes away...guess what? I don't go there, either!

I used to belong to all 3 and it was a waste of money. Every now and then I would go with a friend and we would buy stuff we could split, or I would buy a pack of chicken and then freeze it in individual packages. But, I don't have room to store 13249680460 rolls of toilet paper! I did find some good deals on clothes once in a while.

The last time I was at Sam's they had almost NO SAMPLES...so that was my last trip!! ;)~

  85. P.S. The words are over to the right if you click "more"!

HAHA@Maureen about the rolls of TP! That is one problem with bulk shopping and unless you or your kids LOVE the same kind of cereal over and over, why buy 10 lbs. of it!? haha

  96. OK, so speaking of TP...I was on the way home from work and the freeways was bumper to bumper. And all of a sudden, I thought I was gonna explode! No way was I going to make it home in time in that traffic. So I exited the freeway and went to Target, as I know the restroom is right by the entrance!! After using the restroom, I wandered the whole store and bought... NOTHING!! I was so proud of myself!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I know..my son and I went to BJ's here and had dinner. Then he bought me Pleasures perfume. We were joking about it all night. I told him that I hadn't had "Pleasures" in a long time..and he said that I should go to BJs for that..and I said no, the only pleasures there were for men..and it happens that we went into Dick's sporting goods store while we were discussing all this..LOL.

There is a Nacho Momma's in Geneva NY.

There used to be a tavern in Hammond, Indiana named "Bill's Knott Inn".
On the side of the building it said "Free Beer -- Tomorrow".
At The Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains, just west of Sydney,
    there is an up-market restaurant called....."The Fork-N-View".
