My mother, who is 80 years old, still gets around pretty damn well but she was complaining to my brother recently about all her aches and pains and various medical problems. She concluded with the observation, "At least I don't have Alzheimer's". To which my brother replied, "You still have time."
Now, he said that to be funny and make her laugh, which it did. Sometimes, I find myself doing things, or not doing them, as the case may be, that make me wonder about my mental faculties. As I posted recently, I did go to bed wearing a pedometer on my underwear. I actually admitted that to Custard, too, and I also added that at least it wasn't one of those coin change makers!
I've already shared this with Lani and now I will share it with the rest of you. A couple of weeks before the pedometer incident, I got up in the middle of the night and heard a beeping sound, then silence for 15 seconds or so, then the beeping again. I went into the kitchen and discovered that the oven timer was going off! Dinner was a long time ago and I am sure I turned it off, but there it was, literally telling me otherwise. The real mystery is, how could I have spent all the hours between dinner and bedtime without ever hearing it? Most of that time I spent on the computer which is just outside the doorway of the kitchen, only 10 or 12 feet from the stove. Okay, sure, I did have the TV on, too, but what about when I turned it off, took my nighttime medications in the kitchen and prepared for bed? Why didn't I notice it then?
What about you? Do you ever forget things and wonder if it's normal?

Good Morning!!
ReplyDeleteYAY!! Off to read the blog!!
ReplyDeleteJ/LIN: Hi!! How are you today?? I know I came here to do something this morning....what the heck was it anyway...hmmmm. I know it had something to do with the computer...what the heck was it?? Well..let me think about it for a few minutes...maybe it'll come to me. In the meantime...off to read the blog!!
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteGood morning Zonnaaaaaa! You got first! Time to do the owl dance!
Oh JustLin here is my sad tale. A few weeks ago I made my trip into town to pick Mr. Lynn D up. I usually allow time to run errands before I go wait for him.
Well I ran the errands and then stopped to fill up the gas tank. I go to the same gas station and the woman who works that shift knows me as a regular. Anyway I pull up do all the things I normally do. Get the cash out of my purse, set the purse aside, pop open the gas tank from within the car. Gather up anything I need to toss in the garbage and toss it. Lock the door as I always leave my purse inside and slam the door. I always prepay as sometimes I get something to drink.
Well as I start to walk into the store it dawns on me I don't have my freaking car keys!! I go back to the car try the door, of course it is locked. Crap! The other set of keys is at home, oh and the kicker is I have a third set in my purse! Double freaking Crap!
So I hot foot it inside and ask the woman if I can use the phone to call home as my freaking cellphone is in the car with my purse! I am hoping my daughter is home and will bring me the other set. She gladly hands me the phone is commiserating with me and is hoping someone is home for me.
I am so mad at myself I dial the wrong number the first time. Finally dial my home number it is beginning to ring...now I have my money for the gas in my hand and I lay it on the counter as I am waiting for someone to answer the woman and I look down at the same time as she is asking how much gas I want and lo and behold what is laying next to money???? The damn freaking car keys!!!! Yes I had them in my hand the whole time!!
She looked at me and I looked at her and we both started to crack up at the same time! I hang up the phone and how stupid do I feel? Pretty damn stupid! This wonderfully funny woman says to me "This is just between us I will never tell". While we are laughing some more a man gets inline behind me, evidently he had seen some of big screw up to. She then says "well at least it is between us... until I post it on Youtube"! I start laughing again and I hear the man behind me say "Well that is just cold"! This set us off again!
Really tho how scary is that? Being Peri menopausal I often blame these things on that, but really I am very much wondering about myself....could it be? There have been no cases of Alzheimers in my immediate family but I did watch Mr. Lynn D's Mom go through it and really it makes me very nervous.
I have been doing alot of the entering a room and forgetting what I went in there for etc....Maybe it is time to see the Doctor.
LYNND: Oh..if you only knew how many times I looked for keys that were in my hand the whole time!!! I was on my cellphone last night talking to JODI when I heard this loud buzzing...I almost jumped out of the chair. I completely forgot I was talking on the cell and it was set to vibrate. I swear...
ReplyDeleteAnd LYNND...I never remember what I went into a room for..not the first time. Sometimes I don't make it back fast enough to remember the second time either.
J/LIN: I remembered!!! Great blog today!! :)
ReplyDeleteI have typed a long post twice now and been foaded! I will try one more time as I keep forgetting what I have posted.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Owls...ZONA, LYNND and all after me! I now see why the old saying of "getting up early is for the birds". I now know another reason why I like being retired and sleeping late. This getting up at 6AM is very early. I was in bed asleep at 10:15PM last night. My daughter tells me "that is what normal people do , mom."
ReplyDeleteThanks to all of you for the good wishes for my granddaughters. The girls are very slow to recover from this surgery. I talked them into getting dressed and taking a short ride to Sonic yesterday for a milkshake. We are "thinking" about maybe a movie today but will see after they wake up at noon. The weather is so beautiful here today (60's) that it would be nice for them to get out. I will see how they are.....
Boy, can I talk about the blog today. I will in another post.
LYNND: I am watching the Today show about all the floods in Washington. I hope you are safe and dry. We are having bad fires in Boulder here (on the Today show too) from the wind. It blew power poles down and started fires.
I can so relate to this blog. JUSTLIN: I recently left the oven on and we left for a dinner and then came home and husband found it on. I think it is just another reason on why I shouldn't cook!
ReplyDeleteI notice more and more that I am becoming more forgetful. I have always had a really good memory but not so much lately. I find sometimes I really have to think about a name or something and I am losing things all the time. I put them in "safe" places but then can't find the "safe" place.
It makes me scared because of seeing the Alzheimer people I work with in Hospice. I sometimes think that is why I can talk to them so much...none of us remember things! I am going to mention it to my doctor as I have noticed this more in the last 6 months or so.
My friends and I all kid about forgetting things but it concerns me. My husband is worse and is a year younger than me. I don't know if he really forgets or just doesn't think it is any big deal to remember the same things I think he should remember.
I bought a little notebook to keep things to remember in and then I'll be damned if I couldn't find the book. I had to buy a new one and start over and then (you guessed it) I found it in my "safe" place.
I hope all the sick owls are feeling better today. MEK, how is your mom doing? I sure hope she is mending and her knees are okay.
Well, I think I will go and watch the Barbara Walters show from last night or take an early morning nap. Heck, I have three hours before the girls wake up.
BEBBI: I just read your blog for yesterday and loved it! Mr. Z and I are Costco junkies ourselves, but trying to break the habit. Everytime we go in, they try to get us to upgrade to the Executive Membership...it costs $100 a year, but you get money back or something...I don't know. I always tell them that we aren't interested. The last time they grabbed my card right out of my hand and scanned it, then told us exactly how much we had spent, and how getting the Ex. Card could save us money. I smiled and said, "How about if we just spend a lot less money here..will that work??" I think I actually left them speechless!!
ReplyDeleteI love Sams and Costco..and like you BEBBI..I know what one has that the other doesn't and I know who has the best deals.
Great blog yesterday!!
Top o' the mornin' to ya, J/L, Zona, Lynn D, and Dianne!
ReplyDeleteLynn D, your experience with the keys is not a matter for concern at all! Human memory is fragile, subject to all kinds of well-documented disruptions. Particularly vulnerable are well-practiced tasks that involve a series of actions. These tasks have been "proceduralized" - you do them kind of on "autopilot" without the need for a lot of conscious oversight. That's a good thing, most of the time. However, it also means that if there is a subtle change to the normal routine - in particular, if the conscious mind is involved in some abnormal thought process - the automatic sequence of activities can be disrupted, and you will have no conscious memory of it.
When these things happen, just laugh wryly and go about your day!
DIANNE: I hope the girls are much better today!! You are really an angel doing all you're doing to help them and your daughter.
ReplyDeleteI want to echo DIANNE's get well wishes to any of the owls or their family members who aren't feeling well. Lots of positive thoughts and get well wishes being sent your way.
Goodnight everyone!!! ;)
G'night BEAR!! Thanks for making me feel better about all the forgetting I'm doing lately. :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeleteCongrats Zona on 1st!
J/L- great blog that is close to home for me.
Forget things?? HA- I am the Queen of the sticky notes and lists. I have to write down everything if I want to remember it. So does Mr. Goldie.
Its like saying "I love you" to each other every day. We say "write it down" everytime one of us tells the other to remind them of something. LOL
Been so busy at work that I didn't even get on yesterday. BEBBI- I loved the blog. I found my real true love is COSTCO. One opened 5 minutes from my house at the end of Aug. They have the BEST meat and I got great jackets (Disney) for my grandkids there at Christmas. Love that store, love it, love it!!
Hope everyone has a good day. Mine started out with a death claim and then an old grouch who yelled at me that he had to call twice to get me. Said that I didn't answer the first time even though we were open.
I explained that I was taking a death claim for a lady and he said- "don't you have a hold button for that phone?" This instantly pissed me off- so I said ever so sweetly " I do not put grieving loved ones on hold- and if anyone loves you and calls with your death notice I promise not to put them on hold either."
That shut him up. Frigging old jerk.
Ok, going to shake off my pissy mood and get bake to work!
I hope everyone in WA is safe and the floods dont come their way!
LOL- bake to work? Ok, I'll make special brownies instead!!!
ReplyDeleteHi GOLDIE AND BEAR: LOL at you Goldie "baking" at work. I thought maybe you changed professions!
ReplyDeleteYou all complain about your memory now....you are young...wait another 10 or 20 years!
BEBBI; I enjoyed reading your blog and looking at your pictures yesterday. It sounds like you are a true advertisment for Costco! I have never been to one and they are all over out here. I have gone to Sam's a few times and even joined one year but it wasn't worth it for two of us and now that I am 62...I don't like to buy too far ahead! :)
ZONA: I am just glad that I am home and can help out with the kids. They are my angels so I am glad to be here.
I wanted to mention that my husband and I went to see 7 Pounds last week. Has anyone else seen it? We really liked it and thought Will Smith did a great job. Any comments? Has anyone seen Marley and Me?
I also wanted to see if anyone is watching Mamma's Boys? This show is really something and the girls make the Bachelor girls look good. I think half of them have been in Playboy or some magazine and have had major "adjustments". One girl even talks about her botox and she is only 25. I continue to watch it because I have to laugh watching the mothers relate to these girls and their sons. I do like a couple of the women this time on Bachelor. EBJ...I know you are watching these, right?
Good Morning Zona-my-baby. First on the blog so you must be frisky today. That's great.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Lynn, Dianne, Whabbear and Goldie. I love all your comments this morning.
Just-Lin - Another great blog. I could fill the page with 'senior moment' stories. I think I wrote about one on April Fool's Day. I will share one quickly and then get back to work.
I walk Tango and Tia everyday for half an hour along the same route. Sometimes I drive to the park and start and end my walk there and then drive home. Well one day that is what I did only when I returned to the park instead of getting into the car I walked home not even noticing that I was passing my parked car. When I got home I didn't notice the car wasn't in the driveway. The next morning I went out to get in the car and found it missing. I totally panicked, phoned all my relatives and was about to call the police when my brother in law found it still waiting for me at the park. I was so embarrassed. What I don't like about such incidences is that it affects my self confidence for a couple of weeks. Whabbear, thanks for the reassuring words about memory. I will read it again.
Bebbi - Sorry I didn't get on the blog yesterday. I hope to be back to normal soon.
Have a great day everyone. Stay safe. Love, Tinka
Dianne so far so good! We are safe...dry not to sure. I think I detected some fungus growing on my webbed toes! I saw the story about the wild fires. This is crazy we have so much water that we don't know what to do and you guys are having wild fires!
ReplyDeleteZona get some sleep!
Whabbear thank you for your post! That made me feel better too. When I told Mr. Lynn D about the incident he looked at me like he wanted to lock me up in a home and take away all sharp objects.
Goldie fantastic response to the old coot! Geez What are people thinking?
Bob the builder across the street has created quite a mess! His house is still ok but his yard...Yikes and there is a drainage ditch infromt of his house that seems to be seriously plugged and is causing water to cross the road in one section. Right at a stop sign. There have been problems there before. We wondered if his clearing would cause problems again. It seems it has.
I saw a county vehicle checking it out very early this morning when it was dark. They were shining high powered lights all over his property. I just hope they come back and unplug the ditch!
I am going to take some pictures later today. I have to go call my Dad as he lives near the area where they are going to close I-5. He was not affected last year but two rivers in that area have not crested yet.
I heard on the radio this morning that there are 22 rivers that they are waiting to crest and it might get a whole lot worse.
BBL
Happy Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteZona - congrats on FIRST!!
I'm exhausted - was awoken by the phone WAY too early this a.m.- and the bitch actually questioned WHY i was still in bed....... SHIT -
anyway -
waving howdy to Zona, Lynn, Dianne, Whabby, Goldie, Tinka, and all who land!!!
I hope everyone has an excellent day!!
:-)
Goldie - aren't people just AMAZING - and NOT always in a GOOD way!! Good for you - for not taking crap from him...
ReplyDeleteJust Lin - I LOVE your blog today!! I am ALWAYS going upstairs to do "something" and returning downstairs to just remember that I forgot to do the ONE thing I went up there to do....... LOL..
Mr. MEK will tell me to write him a note to remind him to do things that he needs to do - and then I will forget to write him is note - then, it becomes MY fault that it didn't get done!!
:-)
Oh - i could go on - but I'll just leave it at that!!
25 for goldie
ReplyDeleteMEK: Was it a commercial or something that called early? I also find that reminders for doctor appointments call very early.
ReplyDeleteAnother bad thing about being up this early (it's 10:20 now)...I am starving!
Good Morning TINK. How are those Christmas decorations going? I think it is time for the Valentine ones to go up!
Dianne - thanks for asking about Mom - she is very sore..... and has lots of bruising - but other than that - just fine!!
ReplyDeleteI hope your granddaughters are doing better. S O N I C will cure all!!!
:-)
Lynn - too bad someone at the gas station didn't have a Flip camera!! or it would have ended up on YouTube!!
ReplyDelete:-)
MEK Thank God no one had a flip camera! I can see when I finally get to meet you in person I will have to be very careful around your Flip!
ReplyDeleteWell talked to Dad he is fine but house bound as they have closed all of the roads. Evidently one of my Aunts and Uncles is stranded 6 miles from their home in Morton as all of the roads are closed because of flooding. Another of my cousins made it home to the bottom of his long driveway and could go not further his property including the driveway underwater. He spent the night in his truck. He still could not get to his house and made it out only because he knows all of the old logging roads in the area.
So far all family members accounted for not to sure about their houses yet!
Mr. Lynn D called to remind me to take pictures of the ditch. Yeah I know I said I was going to but it has to go to the bottom of the list.
Ok off to start paperwork! (Sigh)
Thanks for the 25 MEK! We are getting a Sonic here soon too. They started building it already. First one in the area and less then 5 minutes from my house. I'm psyched. Glad to hear MOM is ok!
ReplyDeleteI have said it a million times, I don't know if it is more stressfull to be a parent or to a child.
Dianne- I am sorry, I'm not sure what happened with your granddaughters- but I hope they are better soon.
More snow in the forecast tomorrow- 3 to 6. BUMMER
Lynn- glad everyone is alright. Hope their properties will be too!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning/afternoon Owls.
ReplyDeleteI am up and dressed and I am going to try to get something done today. I am still feeling like I was shot at and missed and shit at and hit, but I just can't stay in bed another day.
J/Lin, I can't tell you how many times my memory has failed me and made me feel stupid. I have worried about it too.
Just recently I pulled into a gas station to fill up my tank. Well, not MY tank, but the car's. I got money out of my purse, made sure I had my keys and went to the machine to put the money in and open the pump where I was parked. After I completed that transaction, I went back to the pump and realized I parked the car on the wrong side for the gas tank. WTH??
Now, granted, the tank on this car is on the opposite side from my old car which I had for 8 years. But I have had THIS car for a year and a half! I must have had a brain fart.
I had already paid for this pump, so I had to turn my car around so I could still use the same pump. I did try to stretch the hose to the other side of my car, but that definitely wasn't going to work.
The gas station was full of cars and people and I'm sure they all thought I was crazy. I was afraid that someone would pull up to MY pump before I could get turned around. Luckily, that didn't happen. But, I may not ever go back to that station.
Zona, Yay for you getting #1.
ReplyDeleteLynnD, I'll be looking for you on youtube.
Dianne, I have been watching Mama's Boys and I can't believe those Mom's. If I had daughters, I wouldn't want them to even date any of those "boys." And I will be watching the Bachelor next week to see what Deanna is up to.
Waving wildly also at Bear, MEK Goldie, and Tinka and all who land. I am going to take my decorations down. BBL
Good morning, Hooters! Well, it's still not noon here, yet!
ReplyDeleteLynnD and SacBarb LMAO @ your gas station stories! Too funny! Until my husband passed away almost 2 yrs ago, I had not put gas in my own car. He always did it. Although, I always feel like I'm going to do something stupid when I do it, everything has gone fine so far, knock on wood!
Bear Thanks for your post. It makes me feel much better.
As for lists, I do try to make a shopping list but sometimes I forget to get something on the list even though I have checked it before going to check-out!
ZonaBaby Congrats on Numero Uno! Glad you remembered to come back and post. :)
Congrats on first, Zona!!
ReplyDeleteJust_Lin, great blog! You guys are making me feel better! I guess we all have those moments. I really think that we have become such multi-taskers that we just have to have moments when our brains hit the reset button!
Bear, thanks for making us feel better!!
MEK, glad your Mom is okay.
Goldie, you handled that old grouch very well!
Tinka, I know you must have felt bad about the car incident but don't! My seventeen year old son has come home several times and asked, "Where's my car?" only to remember he left it somewhere and got a ride home with a friend.
Dianne, hope those girls are better! I'm watching Bachelor even though I said I wouldn't. Now I have to see what happens with Deanna.
LynnD, I was thinking about you this morning when I saw the news! I'm glad you're okay and I hope all your friends/family are, too! Be safe!
Sacbarb, I sure hope you feel better soon!! By the way, I don't think you and LynnD should go to the gas station together ....
I'm a big list maker, too. Without a list I think I would wander around aimlessly all day.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I was rushing to take my son to the orthodontist. I loaded little Aubree in the car, and as I was nearing the ortho, I was thinking I was making great time! Then Aubree's little voice asked, "Where's Tyler?" I realized I'd forgotten to pick him up at school for his appointment!!
Good morning/Afternoon to All
ReplyDeleteGreat post SLIN. I still think the stove timer incident was a fluke. I know you are not deaf. Although there are times when we are talking on the phone you say, "I can't hear you, I can't hear you" and then hang up on me. LOL
For a long time I have been one of those to go back to the room where the thought started in order to remember the thought kind of person.
I also think there are times when someone is telling us something we aren't truly listening. Other thoughts are already running through our heads.
Another contributor is routine. I can remember when I was in school and someone would say meet me at my locker after school and school would end and I would go to my locker and get on the bus as usual. Kind of in somnambulant mode.
Well, I think the above are all pretty good reasons rather than the alternative of that of senility. :)
The famous they, as in "they say" if you have always been a little loopy (not in those words) then you are probably okay.I think I will go with that one.
I'm sure I will be back with more.
SACBARB: I have done the same thing with my gas tank on the other side but hadn't paid for it yet!
ReplyDeleteI have had my car since Apri and it is keyless. Twice now I have gone somewhere and left the engine running. Once it was to get my granddaughter some shoes and as we were walking in the store she said, "Nana, the motor is running." I didn't tell anyone but of course she told her mom. The second time I did it was in my garage and luckily my husband was standing by the door to notice or I would have killed us with fumes...not funny. I think it was just getting used to no key and I haven't done it for months. Between the car and the stove, I was afraid my family would take the car keys and tell me never to turn on the oven again. The oven...okay...the car..NOT!
Good afternoon OWLETTES!!!!
ReplyDeleteZona Congrats on 1st!!!!
Just lin... great blog....
I always tease that I have a memory button in my butt...
I get up walk into the kitchen and forget why i went in there... But as soon as I go back in the living room or craftroom/office, and sit down ,I remeber what I had gotten up for in the first place...
every now and then when I am delivering I forget where i was headed or even catch myself heading home... just get going in that direction and don't turn where I am supposed to...
Goldie.. you handled that old fart wonerfully... you wander what those people are thinking ... if they even are...
LynnD ..Sacbarb...
Stay away from the gas station...
Too Funny...
Dianne... hope everyone is feeling better soon...
MEK...{{{HUGS}}}
Waving a wing all else who have flown by or fly by later...
have a great day...
I am bundling up tonight... delivery will be very very cold tonight...
see ya later...
Good afternoon everyone!
ReplyDeleteI am loving everyone's stories1
Sandi, I think you hit the nail on the head. We have become such multi-taskers, that it doesn't take much to throw us off.
Diane/Denver~ROTF @ "not buying to far in advance"! I have not been to a movie in a long time, but love to see Marley & Me.
Tinka, are you watching the Elvis marathon on TCM?
Bear, bless your heart from giving us a wonderful excuse lol!!
I am forever dashing to a room only to forget why!
I think thee worst thing I did was leave a gas station without paying. I was on my way inside to pay when I spotted an old friend who I hadn't seen in years. We gabbed for a bit, then I got in my car & drove home. When I got there my son said "Mom the police called, they got your license plate number when you left without paying". I was mortified! I couldn't get back there fast enough! The clerk laughed and said she noticed what had happened, but had to report it because she didn't know how else to get paid.
I now always use my credit card!
Do any of you use "association" to remember things? I use it a lot. My favorite way to remember my Italian stallion neighbor-who-is-now-divorced, phone number is ---
ReplyDelete---2694, he would have had only "2" children if he had "69nd" and would not have had the last "4" lol!! I never forget it!
LOL! Glad I could be of some help, everybody!
ReplyDeleteJust a followup: While these things that happen in our everyday lives are more exasperating and amusing than anything, the issue of memory, how it works, and its structural limitations comes up big time in the workplace, especially when it comes to airline accidents. You know when they attribute accidents and crashes to "pilot error". All too often, the pilots involved (if they survive) get blamed, when careful analysis of the conditions that lead to the crash showed that they were a victim of these same memory phenomenon that plague us on a regular basis.
The solution, and the way to make flying safer, is to first understand these memory issues, predict the kinds of flying environments and scenarios in which they are likely to manifest themselves, and then design cockpit displays and alerting systems to compensate.
And yes, in case you were wondering, the above WAS brought to you courtesy of a human factors engineer! LOL!
Wabbear, thanks oh wise one! You are my hero lol!!
ReplyDeleteJUST LIN - Great blog. Good grief, if I didn't make a list, I think some days I would forget to wipe my ass!!! It's always kinda a mad house here with 3 kids, so it is very easy to get distracted. I just blame the kids!!!
ReplyDeleteZONA - Congrats on first!!! lol @ forgetting why you came here. :O)
WHABBY - Thanks for the info on memory.....I knew you would have the answers for us!!!
GOLDIE - Luv the way you put that old fart in his place!!! I've always said that you are one class act.
MARY/MI - I have gotten VERY good at tracking all our little "drive-offs"!!! Sometimes that is the only way to track someone, but if I know the people, I just call them at home. It just happened this morning with a couple from my church. The hubby came in, but didn't pay for his gas. I called their house and the wife came in to pay. When I showed her the pics, she said that's not my hubbys car. But then she remembered that he had the rental car (cuz his Jeep was in the shop). I've actually had people drive off with the hose still in their tank!!!
Waving a wing @ LYNN D (I just locked the keys in my car FOR REAL last week when I got my hair cut!!!), DIANNE-WHO-MAYBE-SHOULDN'T-BE-COOKING-IN-DENVER, TINKA, MEK, SACBARB (how are you feeling?), SANDIE, LANI, and IBB (good luck tonight!!!)!!
JODI: I love my new name!!! Now if I can just convince my husband that is my name......You will laugh when I tell you I received a cookbook for a Christmas present.
ReplyDeleteMARY/MI: I have to laugh at you not paying for your gas!!
BEAR: I am really hoping for no pilots error. It's kind of like when a doctor makes a mistake..not good.
I finally got the kids up, showered, dressed and off to a movie. When we got there the power was out at the shopping center so no movie. I talked them into going to another area for spaghetti lunch and they both ate pretty good...even a breadstick. We will try for the movie tomorrow. I think they have finally turned the corner and are getting better. They are even talking today. Yea!!!
Flying through!
ReplyDeleteFinally finished reports. It seems every month they forget to include something! Drives me crazy.
Dianne so happy the girls are feeling better!
Seems we all need to stay away from gas stations! LOL Unfortunately I have to stop tonight and fill up the tank. Hey maybe you guys will see me on youtube!
Great blog Just_Lin!:)
ReplyDeleteGoldie, you sound like me! I get picked on about all of my post-it-notes! My lists have lists! LMAO
I still forget stuff even with the reminders though haha
I'm SO excited about Ugly Betty and Grey's Anatomy being back tonight! WOOHOO!!
ReplyDeleteAnyone catch the People's Choice Awards? They were pretty good!
49!
ReplyDelete50!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteDiane/Denver, too bad about the movie, but I am glad the kids were out and about.
ReplyDeleteJodi, I am sure you have your hands full with some of us koo-koos! lol!
Joey~yay on 50!!
Thanks Mary! OH and Jodi, when I worked for a convenience store, they tried to make US as employees, pay for the drive-offs! I think that's illegal lol..That's why the store has insurance!
ReplyDeleteMost gas stations make you pre-pay now!
OK...I need to know who brought in a CASE of Reeses' Christmas trees while I was asleep. Good Lord...
ReplyDeleteDIANNE: I'm so glad that your granddaughters are doing better. And they're talking??!! Woo-hoo!!
ReplyDeleteJOEY: Thanks for the reminder about Grey's and Ugly Betty...today is all about forgetting...and I certainly would have!!
MARY: I do the word association thing all the time...not that I can remember any of them right now....lol...
IBB: LOL at the memory BUTTon's location...
SANDIE: The question is...how do you remember the list...get back to me on that one please.. ;)
LANI: "Kind of in somnambulant mode" I'm getting old...I have to google that one.. ;)
ZONA!!! My favorite seasonal/holiday candy....pass some my way. :O)
ReplyDeleteSACBARB: YAY!! You're up and about!! You're doing better sick than I do well! ;) I argued with Mr. Z the other day that the gascap was on my side of the car..he finally gave in and pulled up to the pump that way. Guess what?? Wrong! Bet he never forgets again!! ;)
ReplyDeleteGOLDIE: Did you bake those special brownies at work?? ;)
TINKA: I left Mr. Z out in the pool while I came in to get my inhaler. I got interested in something on TV and forgot him. I'm just sayin'...we ALL forget where we parked something sometimes. :D
MEK: {{{{HUGS}}}} :) Glad your mom is ok..hope you got some rest too.
JODI: I think they would be a big mush by the time you got them...I need to get them out of here...FAST!! I have no self control when it comes to Reeses...
ReplyDeleteHello Hooters~
ReplyDeleteCan we talk about forgetting? I mean really some of these people I work with have been here longer than me (11 yrs). Not only did they call several times each day while I was gone, but forgot just about everything else. The piles of paperwork on my desk is GARGANTUAN.... and twice today while placing orders I forgot my desk phone number.... I started giving them my cell #.... I guess 3weeks away caused my brain to kick that info right out.
I am back home in sun and warmth wearing t-shirts and crocs and loving every minute of it. I don't think I will be visiting Chicago again between the months of Nov-Mar anytime soon.
Gratz Zona....snap that band, cause everything is a ok.
JodiHO...sorry the last couple of nights I have passed out, so those calls we're not ignored.
Whabby: What else can you edumacate us on...you amaze me~
Hope all who are not feeling well feel better soon.
Goldie: What's the bears name? You'll be seeing more of that lil red bear...lol
Good evening feathered friends!
ReplyDeleteZONA...congrats on 1st! MMmmmm, Reese's! Yummo!
JUST LIN...great blog! I don't remember if I forget things or do stupid things! ;)~
Actually, not long after I moved in, I went downstairs to the garage to go to work. I closed the door to the garage and actually locked it. I got in the car and started looking for my keys...ooops...no keys. The house was locked. I got my cell phone and it is almost dead. I called work and told them to find a locksmith and send them to my house and I would sit in the garage and wait. About 15 minutes go by when I feel something in my pocket.....MY FRICKING KEYS! Doh!
I can't tell you how many times I have turned around to go back home because I couldn't remember closing the garage door...yep, it WAS closed!
I have decided that I don't have memory problems, I have forgetting problems...I forget to clean out the cobwebs from my brain and let stuff go to make room for the really important stuff!!

ReplyDeleteKGRL: Uh-huh..don't tell me you missed that 69 that badly.. ;)
**SNAP** thank you!!!!! :)
LANI: GOT IT!! "Kind of in somnambulant mode"...'resembling or having the characteristics of a sleepwalker: sluggish'...yep, I know what that's like!! :)
ReplyDeleteZona: Congrats on first!
ReplyDeleteJust Lin: Ohhh great blog, but wait..I forgot what it was about..I need to go and read it again! haha...yes, I forget stuff all the time and it makes me crazy. The part I hate the most is looking for the shit that I put away in a safe place but then forgot where I put it. Also, I hate looking for keys!!
Going to read the comments. I hope everyone had a great Thursday.
Lynn D: LOL at your story! Those darn keys have been in my hand before like that and it is embarrassing! LOL
ReplyDeleteMary: LOL at the italian stallion phone number story..very funny!
ReplyDeleteDianne: Thanks!
ReplyDeleteTink: I really miss ya! I hope you get back soon.
Zona:
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first...
I did not read the comments as of yet, just come home from a busy day..
ReplyDeleteGreys in on, my fav show...
J/L:
HA! Loved your blog 2day, I am telling ya, I would forget myself if I did not have veins, arteries, bones etc. they have to come with me cause we are attached..
I have resorted to lists tho, cause if I don't it does not get done, I think in my case it is normal as it brain overload..
Now my parents, that is a whole other story, they forget cause there brains are wearing thin, I know this, as it happens with age.
The other day they went to Target, to get some bathroom supplies.. When they went up to the check out counter, they had a carriage however it was not theirs, there were other items in the carriage NOT the bathroom supplies.. My parents stole someone else's carriage.. They backtracked thru the whole store, cause they could not remember where the original carriage was with the bathroom supplies.. After about a 1/2 hr they found the carriage still with the bathroom supplies in it. They left the stolen carriage, and took off to the check out counter..
My nephews and I laughed for days over this...
There are so many stories such as these.. and each one makes me laugh, they laugh to, cause its better to laugh it off.. Doncha think.....
I am going to watch greys.. and will be back...
ReplyDeleteJ/L.. forgot to thank you for writing todays blog.. ♥♥♥
Hi Hooters! Speaking of Memory (Great blog, S'lin!)~~I remember you guys & gals...Happy 2009!! Haven't been here since way back last year, so have lots of catching up to do. Have enjoyed reading all the different blogs, still cruising comments.
ReplyDeleteLynnD~~Geesh, what a disaster, eh? I'd come help you build an ark, but you can't get there from here!
Dianne~~So glad the girls are finally getting better.
VIG~~Do tell!
(to be cont'd)
Well, I got anything done today EXCEPT taking down the Christmas decorations. Every time I got started, I got distracted by something else. I'm not really motivated and I can't seem to focus. I'm blaming it on the flu.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I was ROFLMAO at your parents Target story. Thanks for sharing that with us. Is it normal for people to take to thievery when they age?
K-girl, I'm glad you were able to thaw.
I am going to look for something for dinner. I am out of soup, so I'm not sure what I'll find. Maybe Zona will take pity on me and share her Reese's.
Have a good evening everyone.
BonO Woo Hoo! So glad to see you! I see by your avatar you are prepared for high water. You must have been "forgetting" to pop into the nest lately. :)
ReplyDeleteCarol: That is a funny story!
ReplyDeleteSacbarb: Yesterday I didn't know what to do to make 7,000 steps (so cold outside), well I decided to take all my Christmas decorations down to the basement that I had left. I did and got 7,017 steps in. Now today, I am at 5,318 steps and again, too cold outside to walk. Do you want me to walk over and help ya take down your Christmas Decorations?
NOW THAT WOULD BE A LOT OF STEPS...and I might not make it until next Christmas and you would say, "Oh, Never mind.".
Okay..now I am thinking of Emily Litella.....from Saturday night live. See how my mind wonders! It is SCARY!
J/L~~You're TOO funny!
ReplyDeleteTinka~~I'd be more inclined to blame your abandoned car incident on Bear's auto-pilot theory than on what I like to call 'Half-heimer's Disease'. It reminded me of the story I think I told once on the other blog about taking the bus from Seattle home to Mercer Island only to realize when I got to my empty garage, one gridlocked hour later, that I'd driven to work that day. Aaarrgh!! And I was only in my 30's at the time.
Mo~~Same with your circling back home to check the garage door. I'm SO relieved to know I'm not the only one who does that on a regular basis. It only took one time leaving it open when I went to work at the County Jail, and hours later having a cop-friend come in at work to tell me the neighbors had called the po-pos after seeing neighborhood kids 'loitering' in my driveway. He had done a walkthrough of my entire house before coming to tell me! OMG, did I flush the potty? Did I leave bras dangling over the back of a chair to dry? Was there 'ABC' gum on the bedpost? How embarrassing! I'm so used to hitting the garage-door remote on the visor (in auto-pilot mode) as I back out, that now I force myself to sit and FOCUS on the closed door before pulling away. Even THAT has become so automatic, that I still circle back at least once a week. Alzheimer's?? Hmmmmm.
Anybody else ever have to call their cell phone from their land-line to help find it?
Bon'O, good to see yo'O!
ReplyDeleteBon'O, I do the circle back and trek up to the door to double check that I have locked it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, the worst thing every at Christmas time, I let Bandit out for a while on his leash..and I FORGOT HIM...omg, I heard barking, barking, barking about 30 minutes later..poor dog, it was snowing too...I am a bad mother.
"every" should have been "ever"
ReplyDeleteCarol: Enjoy Grey's!
ReplyDeleteCarol, ahem... those things can happen to anyone.. really!
ReplyDeleteI'm not naming names, but taking the wrong shopping cart is not that hard.. I'm just saying...
BON'O: I have never called my cell to find it..but I've called the cordless with the cell...and I have two handsets. Yep..just lose them both. Hopeless..I tell ya...
ReplyDeleteGrey's here I come!! :)
BONO...welcome back! Nice to see you. Not only have I had to call my cell, I have had to call my land line to see where I left that!
ReplyDeleteThe other day, I knew I bought t.p, but had other bags to carry in, so i let it in the trunk. Well, I start looking EVERYWHERE for that damn t.p. I decided to look in the trunk and wth...no t.p. I was looking in closets, the spare bedroom, the kitchen...everywhere. So I go back to the trunk and...voila, there it was!
BEBBI... I admire your determination
ZONA...Maybe we're related!
ReplyDeleteBebbi,a moment to let you know what you are doing to me lol! Some part of me keeps blanking out the fact that I should exercise. You my dear Lady slap me in the face at least once a day in here by mentioning your "steps". You have just slapped me again lol!
ReplyDeleteBBL after I do my "machines."
I think I should thank you ???? :-)
Mary..okay..you made me feel guilty.. I am going to go and walk..out in the freezing cold to get my 7,000!!!!! Thanks,,,should I thank you back? hehe...luv ya girl..go and attack those machines..I will be back and try to type with my frost bitten fingers. I think I will walk my Mom's Avon over to her. BBL.
ReplyDeleteSACBARB: I just saw a Howie Long commercial...I mean he was advertising something..not sure what..wait a car I think. Anyway..it was Howie Long!!!!! ;)
ReplyDeleteBebbi, Thanks for the offer, but I guess Emily is right.
ReplyDeleteMO: LOL...maybe!!! :D
ReplyDeleteOK...
ReplyDeleteback to..
ReplyDeleteGrey's
ReplyDelete100!!!
ReplyDeleteDamn I'm smokin' today...well, except I missed 69...lol..
ReplyDeleteZona, I still have a life size poster of Howie Long from when Todd lived here. I told him when he was here for Christmas that I think it's time to take it down.
ReplyDeleteMan, I missed the march. Congratz Zona. You distracted me. See how easy that was?
ReplyDeleteZona~~I have 4 land-line handsets throughout the house, so they're easier to leave where they belong. Otherwise, I'd be in trouble!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bebbi & Mo. There's just a li'l something missing in a day when I don't know what y'all are up to. :~)
Mary~~ :-) @ "slap in the face each day". I just need someone to keep slapping my butt out of this 'puter chair!
Somebody please remind me which pedometer actually works accurately. I got the highest-rated YAMAX Digi-Walker. It's enclosed in a case so it can't accidentally re-set, yet I wore it all over town the other day. Got home only to find it had registered 37 steps!
SACBARB: NO!!! Leave it up until I visit!! ;)
ReplyDeleteBON'O: I walked for over an hour and my pedometer registered "0" I guess I put it on upside down. Who knew??
MARY: Are you almost saying you've taken the wrong cart...I guess I should almost say it too! ;)
CPGEM: I'm liking Grey's tonight...what did you think???
I remember walking past my house once. It was about 1:30 in the morning...I was drunk...and it was a blinding snowstorm. Does that count?
ReplyDeleteWell, this is pathetic. I have been sitting here for 15 minutes starting to write my thoughts and then I am distracted by the TV. I start again and am then again distracted and again have to try and remember what is was that I was going to say.
ReplyDeleteI had quite a frightening experience in my early 30s. I went to write my last name and suddenly couldn't remember if there was an e on the end of it. I felt the blood rushing to the top of my head and sat there frozen in panic. I don't know where that came from.
One good thing is my mind has saved my butt a number of times. After being home from work for a while all of a sudden I will remember something I forgot to do at work. Then I was a wreck until I could go to work the next day and fix it.
It is nice to see you BON.
I enjoyed reading everyone's posts. I think I have done just about all of it myself.
Hey hooters,
ReplyDeleteChecking in after a long, busy day!
I know I have something I can contribute to todays blog topic, I just can't remember it! (or them!)
I too am a post-it note person. Just today I was talking to one of the drs. I work with, he has post-its all over one of his walls. I told him I love it!
My phone book has lots and lots of post-its with phone #s on those instead of on the pages.
Dianne, yes I'm watching the Bachelor, no not watching Mama Boy. We tried watching True Beauty the other night, but I think MR. EBJ was so fed up with Bachelor he couldn't handle another show like that right after I'd made him watch the Bachelor 2 hour premiere!
We LOVE that they are bringing Deanna back, such drama! I am hoping she will grovel at Jason's feet.
ZONA I actually saw Howie Long and many of the Raiders. They used to have their training camp in Santa Rosa (Donna Jean's neck of the woods), we used to go to this bar called the Music Box, where the team went in the evening.
Howie was one of the few who didn't hit on girls, the times I saw him he just sat at a table. He never danced or talked to other women that I saw.
Now the Tooz was a different story! That was a wild and crazy man. We were AMAZED when he came in the bar one hot summer night dressed like it was winter, heavy knit sweater and a jacket.
He drank, danced, stripped, flirted, what a guy!
I have to catch up on some other stuff, so will wave a tired wing to everyone!
Zona, about that list thing--I write my list in my Agenda Book (my new night owl one!) and leave the book on the kitchen counter so I can't possibly miss it or lose it--it's too big! I carry it with me practically everywhere I go.
ReplyDeleteShirley, LOL!
Hi Bon!! I'm with you and Mo, I also check my garage door a few times before leaving.
About land lines--have you taken the phone with you when you leave only to have the line go dead as you drive away from home?
Carol, the cart story cracks me up! My parents haven't done that one yet! LOL
8537!~~ Freezing cold steps!
ReplyDeleteLOL Shirley..that's funny. You must be a younger pup than some of us. I suffer from CRS (Can't remember shit). I used to have a key chain that said that, and I had it since I was 30 or so! lol.
ReplyDeleteYou have to check it Bon'o and you have to wear it on your shoes or socks or boots for the best results! My sister and I walked a breast walk and she had hers on her waist and it did the same thing..man, was she bummed.
ReplyDeleteMary ..haha..Emily was always right. hehe. I love Gilda Radner..she was such a great comedian!
ReplyDeleteOhh..I said Mary..cause she was on my mind, I meant Sacbarb..see..J/L..i even forget who I am having conversations with...shesh.
ReplyDeleteBibidy Bopity Boo
ReplyDeleteI'm back from using my machines thanks to Bebbi lol!
ReplyDeleteI need a better pedometer too. mine registered 0 the last time I used it. Pissed me off! At least my machines let me know my heart rate, time, and calorie burning info.
Zona, Howie was advertising an American car I remember because that impressed me almost as much as his sexy aura lol!
Sandi~ you want to know what is pathetic!! I get sidetracked when I
I say my prayers at night! I've apologized to the "Man up stairs" many times lol!!
Whew! Bebbi, I was thinking"what the hell did I forget now". Thanks for clearing that up! lol
ReplyDelete^5, Mary..we ROCK! Great job on your machine work out. I was thinking while I was walking how weird it is that another person in Michigan, no less, encouraged me to get out there and walk. It's really pretty amazing to me sometimes.
ReplyDeleteMary, Virgin health miles has a heart rate monitor that downloads your heart rates..but it is over $100, so it has not been fit into the budget yet..lol.
ReplyDeleteSandie: That reminds me of a funny story..my MOM thought that was what the phones at home did when they first came out with the ones without the lines.. She was surprised it didn't work away from the house.
ReplyDeleteSANDIE...I used to write everything in my dayrunner...then forget to look at it!! Thankfully, I am much more organized at work!!
ReplyDeleteI get to go into work half an hour later tomorrow, since I had to stay an extra half an hour today...not 1 minute of o.t is allowed. And they are trying to save money on the supplies the clinicians use, so they are consolidating all the team's supplies into one supply room. It will prevent certain teams from hoarding supplies and tying up cash flow with them and eliminate a lot of expired supplies. And guess what...they added that to my job...inventory and ordering of all medical supplies. I guess I have to learn what is what...I do know what a bandide is!!!
Ohhh, and I have a 3 day weekend! I have to work next Saturday, so I have Monday off!! Woo Hoo!!
TURTLE...I wish I had the 3 days off while you were on the mainland.
Bebbi, you started it lol!!
ReplyDeleteBefore I had my knee replacement I used to run 4 miles a day come rain, shine, snow etc. I cross country skied and road my bike. I really miss all that! I don't dare put too much pressure on my knee now. But I refuse to let it get me down! "use it, or lose it".
Mary: That's good you don't let it get you down. You are right, use it or lose it is a very true statement!
ReplyDeleteI give up MO, What is a bandide? lol!
ReplyDeleteMO: All right!!! A three day weekend! I'll woo-hoo with you!! :)
ReplyDeleteI bet they're having you order the supplies because that way they know it'll be done right!!
MARY & EBJ: Just lovin' Howie!!
MARY: Try not to run up stairs...just sayin'... ;)
ReplyDeleteMo: I am jealous..3 days off..how nice!! *sigh*
ReplyDeleteMARY...when you are as big of a klutz as I am, you will certainly learn what a bandaid is!!!
ReplyDeleteI keep them in most of my rooms and in my purse!
MARY...listen to ZONA...she knows of what she speaks...LOL!!
ReplyDeleteBEBBI...didn't you just have a week off...while I worked! I haven't had three days in a row off since March, when I started at the hell hole...hell, I think I have only had 2 weekends off in that time
Jeez Mo, yes, I did..you caught me! I want a 3 day weekend though....too. This week felt like 3 weeks it has been so long and I still have tomorrow to go!
ReplyDeleteRegarding pedometers, I just bought a simple, inexpensive one since I am just beginning to try and move more, in general. I bought it at the drugstore for $16. It is the size of an Oreo cookie. It keeps a record of the current day's steps plus the previous 7 days. At midnight it re-sets itself to zero to start a new day. I was clipping it on my waist band at first but I acccidentally knocked it off and kicked it across the room! Now I wear it on the waist of my underwear under my jeans. It counts great! I don't need it to do anything more than what it does.
ReplyDeleteI have a Prius with a "smart key" which means I can get into my car or start it without actually using the key, it just needs to be with me somewhere. Well, the other day I came out of the gross-ry store and tried repeatedly to get the hatch back open and was getting very annoyed until I realized I was at the wrong car! I felt like an auto burglar or something. So embarrassing!
ReplyDeleteThat is funny J/L. Okay..I am tired...I am heading to bed now. Sweet Dreams everyone and have a great Friday!! :) Thanks for the great conversation and the inspiration too. Hugs..take care..night night..don't let the bed bugs bite bite.
ReplyDeleteMO & Zona..no stairs ~ check, lol! G
ReplyDeleteGoodnight Bebbi, it was fun, don't forget to "slap" me tomorrow!!
Justlynn, too funny "auto burglar".
ReplyDeleteI have gone so far as to try to open the door of a jeep that looked just like mine! I guiltily looked around and split! I was sure someone was watching and thought I was trying to break in lol!
I am going to play a little Mahjong and go to bed, night all!!
ReplyDeleteMary LOL! I was trying to get in that car so bad! I felt like such an idiot when I finally figured out it wasn't even my car! I also hate it when I come out of the store and don't remember where I parked. Then I am kind of aimlessly pushing my cart trying to appear that I know where I'm going.
ReplyDeleteSacBarb...
ReplyDeletePlease leave Howie up!!!!
I used to have a life size poster of Howie in My laundry room... it had Howie all dressed in black..and read across the top "real men wear black"...
he is soooo dreamy... and he only lives 2 hours away from me...
Zona... it is a Chevy Truck commercial...
Love me some HOWIE!!!!!
Hey Just lin...
Mary/Mi...
night Bebbi!!!
YES, it was a Chevy Truck commercial - it ran during the football game!!!
ReplyDeleteI love me some Howie!! (even thou he was a Raider!!!!)...
LOL
i have enjoyed reading everyone's stories.........
Just Lin - Just last week - i went out the WRONG door of Dillards and ended up in the wrong parking lot - for a nano second - I thought someone had stolen my car - until i realized what i had done!!
oh well.......
and I have been known to drive around the block to make sure the garage door is down!!
Heck, I had a few - go upstairs and forget episodes JUST TODAY!!!
:-)
I'm off to bed.....
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone has an excellent Friday!!
:-)
niters....
SacBarb - glad you are feeling better!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing today, Owls! I hope everyone has sweet dreams. Good night!
ReplyDeleteFrom Area 51: I like Howie but he is still no John Elway!!
ReplyDeleteNOTE TO FOOTBALL FANS: I guess SACBARB and I will be cheering for the Chargers this weekend since they are in our league. ZONA, I am really hoping the Cardinals win as they are not expected to win...so I say, GO CARDS AND GOOD LUCK! Denver is still wandering around looking for a coach. I think your team is too, MARY/MI but at least you made a record this year....16 games lost 0 won....it means you are in the record books and get first pick at the draft!
ZONA; What could you possibly have to do to add up to that many things? You and MrZ aren't going up in the mountain looking for snow, are you?
Ok, will be back later. I am going to watch The View right now. Bye...
