Super Sunday!

I am not a big sports fan, however if I do watch sports it is always football. I like the excitement of the game, and it never seems to drag thru (like baseball). So when the Superbowl approaches, I have the excitement in me of a five yr old at Christmas.

6pm on the dot the teams are introduced and I feel myself getting all pumped up, I am literally staring at the TV, with not a waiver of movement. Each year I count the minutes after the introduction to the start of the Star Spangled Banner. I knew this year it would be Jennifer Hudson, I also knew I would feel emotional, as she has had such a tough year. To my complete surprise prior to Jennifer Hudson singing, the crew of US Air Flight 1549 appear, I was so overcome with emotions, that I forgot to breathe. My SSO hit me on the back several times, and I began to breathe again. Wow, what a sight and how good it felt to breathe again. When Jennifer Hudson took to the podium and I saw her sigh, the tears began again, however the SSO told me he was not going to help me again, so I was on my own. As the tears flowed (and I remembered to breathe) I watch her sing our National Anthem with such conviction and pride, that my pride to be an American swelled.

Click here to watch Jennifer Hudson sing the National Anthem

Watching the game, I was sitting at the edge of my barstool, (with drink and cigarette in hand), it truly was a Super game, it reminded me of last year and how the Giants pulled it off in the last few seconds. I was routing for the Cardinals, and they almost had it. But it was not meant to be, and as always in a game, the best team wins. So Congrats to the Steelers.

As I watched the SuperBowl, and looked around at a very crowded bar, I had forgotten about the economy and the struggles of each of us. Next to me a man was paying his bill, I overheard him splitting the bill with his buddies, there were three of them, he asked very calmly for $250.00 each, $750.00, WTF did they eat and drink for that kind of money, I was floored. On the other side of me, "John" as he called himself, was pulling out hundreds at a time for drinks and of course flirting with the barmaids. No one seemed to be bothered with the money that was being spent. So yes, I was certainly in dreamland for a bit, but as we all know when the sun shines again, reality shines thru as well, and I wondered if all those ppl were now hitting themselves in the head for all the money they spent.

The Super Bowl of Football is definitely a American Tradition, it shows America as a whole, can come together to route for our American Teams.

We as Americans can give salute to our sport hero's, and yes they get paid a lot of money for what they do. But what you get from a day such as Superbowl Sunday, is pride in this country we call home.

America the Beautiful, from sea to shining sea.

  5. Good Morning!!

CPGEM: Although I couldn't bring myself to watch the SuperBowl..too nervous..I did watch some of the highlights later with Mr. Z. It was such a heartbreaking loss for the team and this state. I was just so glad the Cardinals made it as far as they did because no one thought that they would.

My fave commercial was the same one you picked...I'm a sucker for a good love story!! :D

Thanks for the great blog today CPGEM!!

  6. MEK: Congrats on FIRST!! Get some sleep..and give Tug a hug for me! :)

  9. Carol... great super bowl experience...
mine was just being able to watch the 3D commercials at the end of the 2nd quarter... at the bar all the regulars and all the employees were glued to the set with our 3D glasses on ... wish somebody had taken a picture!!!

  10. Good Morning Hooters!

Yeah- MEK got #1!!! Congrats and good night.

Carol- great blog and I love the Bud commercials. The 'fetch' commercial was great too. This (love story) was my fav though- although last years horse training with Dalmation was my all time favorite. But then again there were the bud frogs, and the..... well anyway- I love those commercials!

    Hi Zona, IBB and Tina!!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Damn! MEK got #1 AGAIN! Shirley, take note! LOL!

Good morning, Zona, IBB, and Goldie!

Tina: BOTTOM of the morning to ya! More LOL!

Carol: As you described the scene at the bar, all I could think of was: This is exactly the reaction I've had in casinos! Where do people get all that money that they are throwing away???

My two favorite sports are football and tennis (thought golf is s close third), so this past weekend was nothing short of incredible. The Super Bowl was, well, Super, but the Australian Open final was far more compelling for me. One of the most dramatic tennis matches I've ever seen!

    Poor Roger!

  12. Good Morning Mek - Congrats on first. You were up early today.

Good Morning Zona-my-baby - I was getting so nervous at the end of the game I kept looking away. I wanted your team to win so badly. They surely played well.

Good Morning Tina, (any more videos for us to see?), Ibebold,
Whabbear, Goldie and Donna Jean (Happy to see you back again).

Great blog Carol. I will watch your favourite commercial.
This year Canadian T.V. blocked out the American feed that we used to be able to pay to see, so we only saw Canadian Ads. That's one of the highlight of the Super Bowl so that was disappointing. I will have to google them.

I am off to see my Doctor. I will be back later.

  13. sorry about that but I had to get my number up.

  14. Good morning!

    Congrats on 1st today MEK!

MR. EBJ was glued to the tv on Sunday. As I mentioned on the blog, he was so emotional that I thought I'd have to take him to the ER!

I watched but not as into it as he was. We were cheering for the Cardinals too, as I have lived in Arizona and have lots of family still there.

My uncle who passed away last week lived there too so we were hoping for a win, for him.

I love all the Clydesdale commercial, both Fetch, and the Horse Love that you posted on the blog.

We usually have a Super Bowl party here, lots of people, drinking and food. We cancelled it last week but I did make some snacks and stuff for MR. EBJ. We had a nice day by ourselves.

Yesterday I went and registered to take the class to become a notary! Should be interesting, and something different.

My sassy birdy wants a COOKIE, so I will be back!

    ReplyDelete
  15. That was a great post! It actually made me wish I was into the Super Bowl so I could be a part of that feeling you expressed so wonderfully.

Congrats to MEK #1 Hooter (you didn't have a wardrobe malfunction racing for first, did ya?)

Cranky morning to ya, Tina! I hope you have a mediocre afternoon and a pretty good evening. :P

    Sweet dreams, Zona.

Ibebold, I wish there was a picture of you all too!!

Good morning Wabbear, Goldie, DonnaJean, Tink, EBJ good luck with your class!

    ReplyDelete
  16. MEK Tug seems to be helping you to arrive here first in the morning. Congrats!

Carol I love your descriptions of what it was like watching the Super Bowl with the patrons of the bar. Gee, here in Calif. you can't even smoke anymore in the bars. You created a great picture with your words of all the patrons staring at the TV with their 3-D glasses on. I bet a lot of bad words were said during the game. There sure were a lot of them here and I was watching the game alone! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  17. CAROL, A happy blog to wake up to.....thank you.

I cried through America and Star Spangled. Feelings of nostalgia, and feeling we have a brand new start.

The game was VERY exciting...edge of my seat excitement.

I always love the Clydesdale commercials. Fetch stick was my favorite.

  18. G'day, Owls!

Carol...love the blog and love the video. I am not a footbal fan but this year I watched because of my Owl friends who were so into it! And I totally got bizerk about the whole thing...screaming at my t.v., crying when Jennifer Hudson sang and eating doritos! Too fun! Thanks, guys, for passing on your enthusiasm!

  19. Its Happy Birthday Grandbaby day!
It is Brynn's golden birthday and she has proclaimed herself a "princess" today because it is her birthday. She is excited that she got to take cupcakes to daycare for her friends.

How did my baby girl get to be 3 already? sniff, sniff. I am not there either, sniff, sniff :(

Ok, enough about me- Hi DJ!!
    HI everyone-

  20. Good morning, Lois!

OMG, I'm so excited! I just got tickets to see Petula Clarke at the Castro Theatre on March 21st! J/L, Lani, you should join us!

    ReplyDelete
  21. MEK,Congrats on first! Were you up early with Tug?

Tina~ How the hell are you grouchy?
I do understand though. I am NOT a morning girl. I don't "come-to" until after 11 am lol! A true night owl!

Zona, see, your not watching didn't make them lose!

IBB, I had on the 3D glasses too. Felt like an idiot lol!!

Whabbear, On the Casinos and spending. I have seen people lose a quarter million in a matter of minutes!
When I get home from a trip people naturally ask me "did you win". I always think this is funny. I never ask them how much they made/spent when they came back from their summer lake cabins, snowmobile trips, racing all summer trips, etc. They don't realize in the long run, we all spend the same.

    ReplyDelete
  22. CAROL - Great blog!! I definitely got a little teary eyed before the game started, especially when they brought the crew out from US Airways Flight 1549. That and the combination of Faith Hill and Jennifer Hudson was a bit overwhelming!! I also love the Horse Love Bud commercial....and I think the one last year with Hank is my favorite of all time. :O)

MEK - Congrats on first!!! See, there are advantages of early morning potty stops. :O) Give Tug a hug for me!!

Waving a wing @ TINA (welcome to my side of the clock!!), ZONA, IBB, GOLDIE, WHABBY, DONNA JEAN, TINKA, EBJ, NN/LL, JUST LIN, LANI, VIG, and MARY/MI!!!

  34. Zona, we lived in Phoenix on E. Presidio, we lived with my grandma.

I think I went to part of 3rd grade there, right before we moved to Calif.

I still have lots of relatives in Ariz, in Goodyear, Phoenix and Scottsdale.

MR. EBJ and I will be down again one of these days! We went a few years ago and he really liked it.

We visited there lots when I was a kid! We used to go to Prescott too, my grandma had moved there for a time. Such a different climate up there!

Always had a fascination with the lost mine and Superstition Mt.

  43. Hi everyone..

I am sorry I have been MIA.. everything is ok, there is just not enough hrs in the day!

    Mek,
    Congrats on First!

    Tina,
Well, good morning to you as well
    ;O)

Thats as far as I got..

Its snowing here, it has been all day, however it just to stick about 2hrs ago, which means I have to clean my car off.. I am so sick of snow..

I went to the foot doctor this morning as, my embedded corn, which is named corny by iteach, grew back. He cut it out again, but then brought in the heavy ammo and froze the area. Holy freakin Hell, the pain! Ouch!!! He did not even warn me he just pointed and shot, I think he knows Shirley..
The area has been so painful all day, my business partner had pain pills on him, so he gave me one and the pain is just started to subside. However if I walk on it, the pain begins again. I wonder if Birdee can pick me up and fly me home.. :O)

Ok, off to clean my car off.. and then on my way home..

    American Idol 2nite..

Thanks for all the kudos on the blog 2day.. $750.00 freakin dollars, can you imagine.. Geez..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Carol, sorry to hear that Corny is back.

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but recently I had to go in the exam room with one of our drs. who had to freeze the genital warts off a young gal.

I had a mole on my neck frozen off once and it hurt terribly. Not sure I could tolerate it again, especially "there"!!

Thanx so much to Joey for showing me how to make a hyperlink!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Happy Monday Owls.

Carol, It always amazes me when people go to bars and spend money like that. I can't imagine spending $250 in a bar just for me. I would be drunk and passed out WAY before that.

Thanks for writing such a picturesque rendition of your Superbowl Sunday. I missed the game, but I felt like I was there just reading your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  46. MEK, Congrats on 1 through FORE! How's little Tug doin'?

Tina, WTH are you getting up so early for????

Zona, They didn't lose in the 3rd quarter, so it can't be your fault.

I have been out all day shopping for stuff for my kitchen. This is really getting expensive. I got an estimate, but so far, I have exceeded it. I told my kids, I am spending their inheritance.

Waving to all the other Owls.

    ReplyDelete
  47. JODI: No...your heart... :)

Annnnd...I gotta try those glasses out!! :D

EBJ: I know where that is!! And that's sayin' something..isn't it TINA and DIANNE??

I love Prescott...they are widening the roads so it'll be a much nicer drive.

CPGEM: Ouch!! So sorry about your foot. I don't know why doctors think that by not telling you it's going to hurt, it will somehow make it hurt less. Hmmmm..did that even make sense?? Well, in any case...I hope the pain eases up soon.

HI SACBARB!! Were you busy watching something else?? ;) I know you were at a sorority function...I hope you had fun!

    ReplyDelete
  48. SACBARB: Thanks... :)

    JODI: Congrats on 69ing!

TINA: Ya missed it by thatmuch...well there's always tomorrow..or tonight! :D

    ReplyDelete
  49. SacBarb!lol at"spending their inheritance"! I want a new kitchen too. I have to shop around for a couple estimates. Mr Mary drags his feet so I am going to put a little fire under him and get a couple floor plans. Good for you for doing it all by yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  50. EBJ I had a skin tag frozen off my upper inner thigh and another one frozen off under my arm. I didn't find the pain to be too bad at all. I would NOT like the idea of having to have something like that done on my genitals, though.

Bear I hope you have a great time at the Petula Clark concert. She was never my cup of tea, unfortunately.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Zona Hi! 3-D glasses may make things look bigger and/or closer than they really are. Yikes! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  52. J/LIN: Yep...kinda the effect I want..only I'M the only one that gets to wear them here!! ;)

MARY: Mr. Z wants to re-do the kitchen all by himself...so we wait..and wait..lol..

Gonna make some dinner..I think popcorn sounds good! Thanx JODI! :D

    ReplyDelete
