Misty, by Johnny Mathis, is my parents' song. I was reminded of this every time my dad put this record on because my mom would get this silly look on her face and smile and say, "This is our song!" We gave my parents a surprise 25th anniversary party. My brother made them a slide show with all their old pictures, and of course, used Misty as the first song. Everyone watching sighed when they heard it because they all knew......this is their song! At my wedding, I chose to dance to Misty with my dad.....my mom still got that look. I'm with my parents today as Dad has a doctors appointment tomorrow. I'll play the video for my mom. I guarantee she'll get that look on her face once again! Did your parents have "a song?"

hi
ReplyDeleteYippee!!! My first first in a while it seems...Off to read!
ReplyDeleteSweet Blog Tina!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea if my parents had a song. I do remember playing my Mom's records when I was a kid. I remember Mitch Miller and Herb Alpert and The Tijuana Brass, maybe a little Frank Sinatra. I caught them dancing together once and of course, being a kid, thought that was rather icky.
I'm having a big "lunch" today at my ma's house I will ask her when I go.
ReplyDeleteOn Sundays my mom always cooks a huge lunch and no dinner. I can't wait!
Congrats on first Scirish!
ReplyDeleteGreat song Tina..johnny Mathis..wow, haven't heard that song in forever. So beautiful!
Mr. Bebbi and I's song is "Love Shack"..haha..just slightly different than your Mom & Dad's song, Tina...lol.
ReplyDeleteHave any of you seen the commercial for the cards where they are in a car and they open the card and it brings back memories of when they first met. They both have on big blonde wigs then they grin and start kissing? Well, when I saw that I knew I needed to see if they had those cards with "Love Shack". When I was in Florida, I went to Walmart and asked the lady who was restocking cards. She said they didn't but that would be a good one.
So, Tina, whenever I hear "Love Shack"..I get that look in my eyes!
Crud, Poo and Dingleberries! It's snowing!!!!
ReplyDeleteGood morning feathered friends!
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH...back to getting in first! Hope that means you are feeling better.
BEBBI...good morning!
TINA...Can't watch the vid, but I am sure it is wonderful if you picked it. I don't know if my parents had a song or not, but I'm sure they did.
Morning Bebbi, Iteach and Mo!
ReplyDeleteTina ~ ROFLMA @ Eunice Jolie!!!
Mo ~ I am feeling better, at least for the moment! This virus is sneaky, I think I'm all better and then, Wham... back to full fledged crapness!
My parents is My Happiness by Connie French
ReplyDeleteMorning Scirish!
ReplyDeleteHey Mo, good morning!
ReplyDeleteScirish, sorry to hear it is snowing. It was yesterday here just a little bit.
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH...Sorry you are getting snow again. I think we are actually supposed to be snow-free all week! But it is going to be cold. Hi today is supposed to be 21. I'll take it, if it means no snow!
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER... THE BIG DEVELOPING STORY WILL OCCUR PRIMARILY BETWEEN 10 PM TONIGHT AND 10 AM MONDAY... WHEN A NOREASTER DEPOSITS A 5 TO 15 INCH SNOWFALL ACROSS MUCH OF SOUTHERN NEW ENGLAND...
ReplyDeleteTHE JACKPOT... 10 TO 15 INCHES... WILL PILE UP IN SOUTWESTERN MASACHUSETTS
This is NOT my idea of a "jackpot"
Doesn't sounds like a jackpot to me either Scirish..!! yikes!
ReplyDeleteBTW, my Dad is here..he is trying to figure out how to post. Hi Dad, Hope you are having some success.. call me if you want any help!
ReplyDeleteOh SCIRISH...I feel your pain, I truly do. When does it end???
ReplyDeleteI don't consider that a jackpot, either. ;(
Hi to BEBBI's DAD!
Morning everyone.
ReplyDeleteScirish your Noreaster is going to dump freezing rain, ice pellets, rain, wind and snow in my area. Thanks.
Tina that was a nice song, and blog about your parents.
I don't really remember a time that my parents liked to be in the same room with one another let alone like to listen to the same song. So I am going to guess that they didn't have a song.

Tina my Mom and Dad's song was "We'll Sing in the Sunshine" By Gayle Garnett. I think I posted once about this as it was the song Dad would sing to her when she was very sick and dying. Whenever I hear it, which is rarely, it gives me chills.
Morning Mo and Bebbi and Iteach! Oh and Bebbi's Dad! Waving a droopy wing.
I am sick. I thought I was catching something yesterday but woke up today with chest congestion and my voice is raspy and keeps going in and out. Yucky! I don't do sick well at all!

Oops I forgot the coffee, tea, milk and water. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Iteach, Bebbi, Maureen, and Shirley.
ReplyDeleteScirish and Shirley - Dress warmly today if you are going to play in the snow.
Tina - My mom and dad use to listen to the radio in bed every night. I could hear it from my room. They never turned it off until the last song which was always "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You". I don't know if they considered it their song but I always connect it with them. It always made me feel safe and loved.
Good Morning Vicnic - Welcome to the nest.
ReplyDeleteI am off to the graveyard. March 1st is the day they clear away all artificial flowers, ornaments and wreaths that are decorating the graves. If you don't get there in time you find that your beautiful wreath or lamps etc are thrown in the garbage. I am hoping that because it is Sunday they won't have done it yet. Only fresh flowers are allowed until November 30th.
ReplyDeleteSee you all later. Have a great day.
Maureen - I will have my usual shredded wheat. I think that is substantial. Do you?
ReplyDeleteShirley - I missed seeing your breakfast. Thank you. I will have gingerbread pancakes and whipped cream and sneak a Slim Fast for lunch. Thanks, you are a doll.
ReplyDelete40
ReplyDeleteI will take the OJ and toast this morning! Thank you. Then hit the tea and maybe some honey.
ReplyDeleteWelcome Vicnic!
Tinka becareful and bundle up when you go to the graveyard. Wow Fresh flower season, it seems like this winter is never going to end.
Meeting up with my friend Brigid in a little bit. We've been friends since 7th grade. She just got laid off on Thursday, from the banking industry. Her birthday was last week, too. I hope I can cheer her up a bit. I can relate to what she is facing.
ReplyDeleteHave a good day feathered friends.
BBL...
Haha..Dad, glad you made it.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Shirley! I am hungry!
ReplyDeleteWelcome Bebbi's Dad!
Good morning, Srishy, Tink, Lynn D, 'weenie, & Bebbi!
I don't think my parents have a song either!
Scirish,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on First! So fun :O)
Tinaho,
Thanks for choosing todays SMV, when I sent you the plea, you accepted graciously ♥♥♥
I don't think my parents have a favorite song, however they both love Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. I have XM radio in my car and there is a station dedicated to Sinatra, whenever they are in my car with me, I always have that station on. I had a party for my parents 50th, and I made a montage of pictures to show, I choose a Frank Sinatra song for the back
round music, it was so very special. At the time DVD where not available so I have it on VHS, I must try to put it on DVD, just don't know how..
Mr Whabbear and I like "Play Misty for Me". Of course, we like it better when we change the lyrics to:
ReplyDeleteThe first time
ever I sat on your face...
I felt the earth move...
etc.
Mo: Have fun with your friend.
ReplyDeleteTink: That is good that you can know when things are being taken off the graves. I hope you have a great day!
iteach: Yum, on the big lunch. That sounds good.
Whab: Your comment made me laugh!! Good morning!
ReplyDeleteShirley: Thanks for the Slimfast!! :) Yummm
ReplyDeleteShirley,
ReplyDeleteThanks for breakfast, I am starving, I will take eggs over easy and the mounds of bacon.. Yummo..
Vicnic,
Welcome! Glad you had a computer 101 course from Bebbi. Stop by anytime, we all enjoy your daughter, she is such a upbeat owl, and always so friendly, and she marches really well.. :O)
Whabby,
ReplyDeleteYour one sick owl.. and we all love it..
:O)
50?
ReplyDeleteBebbi: Sing it with me, won't you?
ReplyDeleteLOL!
Whab: Did the earth move because someone tooted?? lololol. THAT is what it made me think of when you said that...haha
ReplyDeleteScirish,
ReplyDeleteWe are getting the same snow you posted about.. I think about 6in, and in some areas a foot, I am hoping it just stays at 6in and no more.. but the forecast is shaky..
We just have to wait and see..
Lynnd,
ReplyDeleteGet plenty of rest, drink the oj, and feel better...
Dad, NightOwlssb is Carol. She is like the Moderator on the blog..not really the "owner" but she puts together the blogs everyday. All, my dad has a myspace too. You should add him. He really is old and could use a few friends... ;) He is hopelessly anti-social and such a loner. (roflmao)..okay maybe not.
ReplyDeleteVicnic's Myspace page
I have a busy day, I am going to the hair salon for my monthly..gotta get that gray out, and then off to my cousins house for dinner.. the big ole Sunday Gravy meal.. My mom is making homemade macaroni (strips) and of course our fav.. pork skins.. sorry mo..

ReplyDeleteBebbi,
ReplyDeleteGeez Bebbi, 69!! in front of dad..
:O)
Bebbi,
ReplyDeleteI wish I could do the box, but I am just to lazy, I like to sit there and let them do it..
Enjoy your walk, and of course I will eat to much, that is what Sunday Dinners are all about..
Ok, see ya all later...
ReplyDelete2nite.. Brothers and Sisters is 2hrs, can't wait..
Oh, I forgot..
ReplyDeleteIteach,
QOTD.. priceless.. lol
Bebbi - I requested your dad. I will wait and see if he accepts me.
ReplyDeleteTink: I am sure he will. Also, he is really not a loner or anti-social. I just said that to make him laugh cause he is so the OPPOSITE of that! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday hooters!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to Bebbi's dad! I can't believe your daughter got a 69 in front of you! WOW!
I love the song today!
I will have to ask my mom if they have a song, I've never heard them mention one.
It's a cold, rainy day here, and I'm doing my usual Sunday routine, the laundry!
It is a good day to stay in!
Hope everyone has a nice day today!
scirish Congrats on #1. I'm sure glad you are feeling better. So sorry you have a "jackpot" to look forward to.
ReplyDeleteLynnD I hope you are feeling better soon.
Vicnic Welcome!
Bebbi LOL @ tooting!
Tina Thank you for Johnny Mathis today. LOVE him!!! Near the beginning of the vid, they show an album cover and after that a photo of his face....That photo is what I had as a huge poster on my wall when I was about 13 or 14. It was over my bed and I have a photo of me standing on my bed in front of it. I saw Johnny sing twice. Once when I was about 18 and again about 40 yrs later.
I don't think my parents had a particular song.
Shirley Thank you for making that great breakfast! I'll have eggs over medium, crispy bacon, hashbrowns and wheat toast. Yummy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteEBJ Raining steadily here but there are no strong winds, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteCarol ~ Your Mom's homemade macaroni strips? How fun!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone! Just thought I'd fly in and out and hello and hope everyone has a good day.
ReplyDeleteMr. Goldie and I are off to see the movie "MILK".
congrats on 1st scrishy.
Great blog tina~ I'll have to ask my Mom the name of their song again. It is in German, so I really don't know it.
Good Afternoon Everyone! I actually fell asleep at 11:30pm and just woke up! I never sleep that long. Dang.
ReplyDeleteTINA: LOVE this song..love, love, really love it. Johnny Mathis has the most unbelievably beautiful voice. I always loved the fade in from the bridge to "..on my own.." where he slides I don't know how many octaves..it's masterful, and breathtaking. I wore this track out on the "Heavenly" album. Did I mention I love this song? ;)
It was so great to read about how much "Misty" means to your family..so romantic. Just made me smile. And sigh. :)
I hope your dad's appointment goes well and that you have a good visit with the family.
Great blog today TINA...thank you!!
TINA: My parents song was "Only You" by the Platters. Whenever they played it, they looked at each other like they were teenagers again.
ReplyDeleteSCIRISH: Congrats on FIRST! LOL..isn't it funny how any affection shown by our parents when we were young was always 'icky'??
ReplyDeletePut on some Frank, stay warm and feel better! :)
ITEACH: Enjoy your dinunch.. ;)
BEBBI: Love Shack is a great song..'just a little ol' place..'
HI VICNIC..BEBBI's dad!
MO: Plaese take some of this 90 degree weather..it's just too early! Are you having a good day off??
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY: Thanks for the yummy brunch..and the DP!
TINKA: You are becoming the 25 master! {{{HUGS}}}
LYNND: I hope you feel better soon..sick just sucks.
ReplyDeleteMO: If anyone can cheer up Brigid..you can.. :)
CPGEM: I think Walgreens can transfer VHS to DVD..Walmart too. Make an extra copy of the tape, just in case before you give it to them..because what you have is precious. Mr. Z knows how to transfer tape to DVD too.
BEAR: :I :) :O :D !!
ReplyDeleteBEBBI: LOL at dad watching..hope you still enjoyed that 69!
EBJ: I want cool and rainy!! :)
J/LIN: My mom saw Johnny Mathis at a show in Cleveland..she said his voice was perfection..that he sang like an angel.
GOLDIE: Are you having another date night? Enjoy the movie..light will be on for you!
Well..I guess I should confess..I think I know why I slept so long. I was reading a text as I was walking into the family room, tripped over Nikki's blanket..and fell into the coffee table. Thank God my phone is ok..and now I'm well rested. LOL..

ReplyDeleteHOLY CRAP BATMAN!!! I just typed out a long ass post and all of a sudden my computer totally kicked my off!!! WTF!!
ReplyDeleteTINA - Thanks for a beautiful song today!! And for sharing the story behind it. How sweet that you and your Dad danced to this song on your wedding day. :O) My Dad isn't home today, so I can't ask if my parents had a "song". I can tell you that they met at a dance hall when my Mom was in high school. The year before my Mom died, we surprised them with a party to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. They did not skip a dance that night....after dancing with each other for nearly 40 years, it was as if they were one. What a joy to watch!!!
ZONA - So glad your phone survived the fall.....and you, too!!! SWAK!!
Waving a wing @ EVERYONE!!!
CAROL - Just wanted to comment on your Marciano blog!! I am totally fascinated with such a huge loving family!! My mother had 4 siblings and my dad had 2. I only have 7 first cousins on my mom's side of the family and 2 first cousins on my dad's side. I don't know why, but I have lost touch with my cousins on my dad's side....sad really, cuz they only live about 10 miles from me. I see my cousins on my mom's side a couple times a year, although I am making an effort to see them more often!! Keep bringing the stories about your family.....and I especially love the videos!!!
ReplyDeleteScirish--first--yea!
ReplyDeleteTina, yes, my parents' song is You, You, You. I had a CD made of their life (through pictures) and used this song, among others as a gift for their 50th Anniversary five years ago. They loved it and still watch it now and then.
Will be back later to read comments--of to dinner at Mom's.
Guess what? Our schools are closed tomorrow due to "extreme weather!" It's been raining since Friday and now we're supposed to get snow tonight! That's a first since I've been here.
bbl
It's so quiet in the nest today. I hope everyone is okay.
ReplyDeleteGood evening feathered friends!
ReplyDeleteWell, the damn weather skanks lied...it's SNOWING! Ggrrrrr
I had a nice lunch with Brigid. We ate at Cracker Barrel and had the pecan pancakes...YUMMMMM. She seems to be handling her layoff pretty well. Better then I handled it!
JUST LIN...waving a wing at ya!
ReplyDeleteHow are you today?
SANDIE...welcome to the world of us northerners! just sayin!!
Hi Hooters!
ReplyDeleteMILK is a great movie and I know why Sean Penn won the Oscar. WOW- he did great. But I have to say what struck me the most is that 31 years later, little has changed. WE are still fighting for the rights for Gay People.
Carol- For X-mas I gave my bro and sis a DVD of home movies my dad had taken and transfered to VHS tapes Years ago before he passed away. I discovered the tape when we moved my MOM last year.
Being the 1st born there is a whole LOT of me, and less of them. But at the end of the narrative by my dad, he talks about how we all grew up to be fine human beings and wishes us all a Merry Christmas. So getting that at Christmas (and hearing his voice) was very special to them, and to me. I had it done at Walgreens- and they did a great job!
There is a pork roast in the slo-cooker that smells so good....
JODI- When can we get together???? I miss you girlfriend, its been awhile.
Today is my little grandsons birthday- he is 2! We just called him and he told me so. Also has a fever of 103 but apparently that is NOT stopping him from digging into the cake! LOL
I am having a little birthday party with cake when they come here on the 19th thru 25th. JODI- come eat cake on Sat. Inga Binga will be there too!!
Ok, sorry for the long post, but I feel like I have been gone awhile.
Zona: LOL! Contractions are OK, too! :)...
ReplyDeleteOK, off to the Lone Star. TTFN... SWA... 69!
Maureen Waving back at ya. I'm glad your friend is handling things okay. It is such a difficult time for so many people. I have never had peacan pancakes but they sound yummy.
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for sharing your songs and stories~ I just showed my mom the blog....and true to form, she got that look on her face.....AND THEN SHE STARTED CRYING!!!....which made me cry! but she liked it...it was a good cry....she wants me to show my father now~
ReplyDeleteI also just got back from seeing Slumdog Millionaire with my sister~ Oh dear Lord.....that was so good!~ I can see why it won the Oscar~
GOLDIE - I have Friday off!!! Does that work for you? Happy 2nd Birthday to Gavin. :O) And I will so be there for cake!!!
ReplyDeleteJUST LIN...I highly recommend them, with the warm maple syrup...soooo darn good!
ReplyDeleteTINA - So glad that your Mom enjoyed the blog!! Tears of joy....it's a good thing!! I hope your Dad's appt goes well tomorrow.....MUAH!!
ReplyDeleteMOHO - So sorry about the snow....I just saw a report that says that we've had 66 inches of snow this season, but last year we were at 89!!! Don't worry, March has only just begun, but I could do without anymore.....ijs!!
Good evening everyone. It has been a busy week end for me. I can't seem to get my sleep patterns straightened out! Sleep,no sleep, part time sleep-half awake sleep, sleep between hubby's snoring sleep!
ReplyDeleteIt would be wonderful to have Johnny Mathis sing me to sleep!
I have loved him for ever. I got to hear him last year at the Soaring Eagle Casino. He was wonderful!
If my parents had a fave. song, I never knew it.As a teenager I was pretty sure they were never romantic and NEVER did the nasty lol!!
I am a couple days behind on blogs. I can't wait to read Carols toilet comments!
TINA - The only song I can remember that my hubby always liked for us was an instrumental called "Long Hard Ride" by the Marshall Tucker Band!!! Thankfully I talked him out of having it played as we walked back down the isle on our wedding day!!!
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone has a good night. I'm going to watch "America" on Lifetime. I missed it last night, but they are replaying it tonight.
ReplyDeleteHey all, I finally got around to putting the pics from Florida and Texas out there on myspace.
ReplyDeleteHow's everyone's day been?
Hi Vicnic! I'm Mary from Michigan!
ReplyDeleteScirish~We are getting a much needed break from the nasty white stuff! It is colder than a well digger's ass, but I can handle that lol! I know how you feel though. Spring seems so much farther away when the snow keeps piling up!
iteach,I remember Sundays dinners at my parent's home. All are great memories.
