Song Lyrics

by EBJ

Have you ever heard a song and tried to sing along with it, only to wonder what the lyrics really are?

Today I was watching tv, and a commercial came on with the Tom Jones song "She's A Lady".

As I listened and started singing along (in my mind, not out loud!) the first sentence has always thrown me. To me, Tom is saying:

"Well she's all you'd ever want, she's the kind I'd like to pump and take to dinner".

Another line of the song goes (to me)

"She can take what I can shout, and that's not easy"

I decided to find the lyrics on the internet to see if he really says PUMP (lol). Turns out, he is actually saying:

Well she's all you'd ever want, she's the kind they'd like to FLAUNT and take to dinner".

The actual lyrics to the other sentence goes:

"She can take what I DISH OUT, and that's not easy".

So, I kind of laughed and thought about all the other songs that I cannot figure out. One of my very favorite singers is Stevie Nicks, and she is notorious for having unintelligible lyrics. Another fave of mine are the Rolling Stones, and I was surprised to read the lyrics to Honky Tonk Woman. They were nothing that I had been singing all these years!

Do you have a song that you don't know what the hell the singer is singing?

  1. Morning Glories!

EBJ LMAO "She's the kind I'd like to Pump?" Holy cow!

I know there are songs I get the lyrics wrong to but I have not had enough coffee this morning to think of which ones. I will keep pushing my brain cells around and see what I come up with.

That was great I still have tears in my eyes.

  6. EBJ,
Many times, I have sung the wrong words to songs, and then someone would correct me, however I would still sing the wrong words.. :O)

Now it is so much easier not to get the words wrong cause you can look up lyrics in a jiff on the net..

Fun blog, thanks for taking the time to write it and send it off to me..

  8. Good morning, Carol, the energetic Lynn D, and Lois!

EBJ: YES on the song lyrics! For years and years, I heard the Beach Boys singing "Bop bop bop, bop boperance".

It didn't make any sense, but that's what I was hearing.

The other one: Ricky Nelson. Right up into the 70's, I heard him singing: "Hello, Mary Lou. Good-bye Marge".

  17. Good morning/afternoon, Hooters! I've been MIA since an unfortunate meeting between my car and a freeway guardrail last Thursday. I'm not hurt other than the odd bruise and some soreness. Like being in a washing maching during the spin cycle.

I remember two things. First, as I was spinning, I noticed all my s#@t flying around in the car. I thought, "that's going to be a mess to clean up". Then when I stopped (finally) I realized I was probably one of the few people who knew what it was like to be facing the wrong direction on the freeway. It IS strange.

I got the standard, "Have you been drinking?", to which I gave my smartass answer of "Yes, Mountain Dew." I'm becomming an expert at blowing into that alcohol tester thingy, but I always fail that test, meaning my score is always zero.

I have some words for the blogs I missed, but I'll break them out into other posts. Hope all is well for everyone!

  18. Music is something near and dear to me. Every song tells a story. There is one by a group called HIM called Killing Lonliness. It's a beautiful song, but knowing the inspiration makes it more meaningful, I think.

What about Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven", written for his little boy? And any parent knows the power of Aerosmith's "Don't Want to Miss a Thing".

  21. Hello, Hooters! I want to thank everyone for the warm welcome backs.

LynnD Woo Hoo! Good move, beating Tina today!

Bonacci So glad you are okay after your scary accident. I know how weird it is to face oncoming traffic on the freeway. I was once on the way to the airport and the traffic was all backed up in the slow lane leading to the exit. As I approached the stopped cars, I was braking (naturally) and this drunk woman rear-ended me, sending my car into a 360 spin. It seemed lke slow motion as I watched the traffic approaching me and swerving around me. I had my 2 kids in the car and a friend's 2 kids, also. It was scary!

EBJ Fun blog today! Bob Dylan was very popular when I was a teenager and none of us knew what the hell he was mumbling half of the time. LOL Another popular song was "Louie, Louie". I still don't know what they were saying.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hey hoooters!

    Lynn got 1st today, congrats!

I should be getting the necklace in the next couple days. I was hoping to mail to to Mary/Mi before her cruise, but she is leaving this weekend, so unfortunately I won't be able to get it to her in time.

I think I should send it to the next person on the list, after Mary. Then it can be sent to Mary so she gets it when she returns.

I heard that Tom Jones song again this morning and it is an orange juice commercial, of all things.

I still can't figure out what "She's A Lady" has to do with Tropicana.

  23. Sisters. From a few days ago. I have one. She's a year older than me (we have the same birthday) and she can't stand me.

She's small and dark, I'm tall and light. We were forced to wear the same outfits until our teens. That means we had to come to an agreement on what we'd wear every day, which isn't something girls were born being able to do. Ever.

I was always envious of her because she was "cute" and I was a lanky mess. The last time I saw her though, she'd put on a lot of weight and I couldn't help but sing the Weebles Wobble song in my head. Then she asked me how often I colored my hair to get the grey out and I blissfully answered, "never". I am evil.

    ReplyDelete
  24. J/Lin, the accident wasn't "scary" at all. More like, "Wow, I'm spinning!" It never hurts until a day or two after. Kind of like going to the gym for the first time in a long time. The next day you hurt in places you didn't know were places.

Achoo....excuse me, I will try not to infect the nest.

Bonacci- glad you are ok. What were you doing in the Washing machine anyway??

  29. EBJ, It was always fun to listen to my kids sing to songs on the radio. My Hubby always listened to the country station and the Oak Ridge Boys sang a song with the line "come on in baby take your coat off" and my middle son sang "come on in baby take your clothes off" We used to crack up every time.

My youngest sang along with the 5th Dimension to "this is the dawning of the age of asparagus"

Even my oldest, who was a Journey fan sang "and now I come to you with broken arms"

I know there were many more, but those are the ones that stand out at the moment.

  30. LynnD, Good to see you at first today.

Bear, I knew you would weigh in on this topic. Goodbye Marge LOL

IBB, I hope the other blond bimbo goes tonight and maybe the Woz.

MEK, What's on the menu for BL tonight?

Bonacci, Glad you are OK. I know how scary that is. Many years ago, I was clipped by a semi and I went flying across the freeway and hit the bank and rolled over. I was OK but my car was totaled.

Goldie, congrats on 50. Hope you feel better soon.

    Shirley, Thanks for the stats.

Waving to NN, Carol, Scirish, J/L, Bebbi, EBJ, Tinka and all who fly in later.

  31. SacBarb I am LMAO @ "now I come to you with broken arms"! What a romantic notion! I am imagining someone with limp noodle-like arms, swinging loosely. LOL

Bonacci I agree that it wasn't scary while the car was actually spinning. It was later, thinking about my kids plus two other kids being in the car and how it could have ended very tragically.

  35. Shirley, thanks you so much for the stats. :)

  36. Just_Lin, I've never been driving with others/children when I've crashed. I admit that I wouldn't be so flippant if I had. Even with nobody else in the car, I always worry about hitting another vehicle. I did think about that, which is why I swerved into the guardrail. I knew I was going to crash. No sense involving others.

There were 4 cars involved. One cut another off. That car slammed on his brakes which caused the car behind him to rear-end him. I went for the concrete. The car that caused the accident got away. California drivers!

If I could drive a washing machine, I would. All I've been able to do thus far is make them move, seemingly at random while making scary noises. This usually happens when I do big loads. I've found this can also be an enjoyable time to read a smutty novel while sitting atop said washing maching.

  37. Congrats on first LynnD

iteach: It is coming by you today. Passing through Illinois on its way to California!! IT is a busy little necklace!

Bonacci: So sorry to hear of your accident and SO glad you are okay. You really made me laugh with the story of you and your sister.."weebles wobble"...shame on you woman..LOL! ;)

Shirley: thanks for the stats update. I always enjoy seeing it. I will perhaps never get a 25 because it is just a bad time for me usually when it rolls around.

  38. Carol, I am having serious audio problems with my flip. It started right when I got it. Have you had any trouble with yours?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Bebbi, I love my sister and I try to be nice to her, but she has a very low tolerance for me. The last time she stayed at my house (many years ago), I came down with the flu. She yelled at me because my barfing was keeping her up. I tried to barf quietly but well, some things just aren't possible. I wound up with a blanket and a bucket on the chaise lounge in the back yard. At MY house!!

The fact that I didn't sing the Weebles song out loud shows that I love my sister and don't want her to catch me making fun of her.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bonacci: The weebles wobble is funny.I think that everyone has felt that way at one time or another about family. It reminded me of when I was a kid and had just sprung boobies. The neighborhood boys would chant, Weebles wobble but they don't fall down"..haha. It wasn't so funny then but I laugh about it now. And, my weebles did fall down..lol.

I hear you on the low tolerance. I wonder why that is sometimes, that there is little patience with certain personalities?

  45. Happy 3.31.09 Everyone!

National Awareness Day, "SPREAD THE WORD TO STOP THE "R" WORD"

You know me, always pushing my Causes! Today is the National Awareness Day for NOT using the "R'" Word.

Thank you to all who took the time to look up the website I posted yesterday, or Googled it.

As a mom of a beautiful daughter who just happened to be born with Down syndrome, and in behalf of all those other moms and dads out there with children with different intellectual and physical challenges I thank you all!

I read yesterday on Yahoo that the "R" Word is the same as if we used the "N" Word, and other demeaning words against a portion of our wonderful population of differing individuals!

I thought that was very enlightening. I am sure none of you would ever even think about using the "N" Word, but there are millions of people out there who think nothing of using derogatory terms for all sorts of people who seem "different" from themselves.

Of course I am not talking about all of you, my dear friends on the Nest, my lovely Owls and Owlettes!

That is why I love, and keep coming back to this place. All are welcome, and no one is judgemental or would ever use any derogatory words toward anyone.

I have been spending most of my day out and about defending my "CAUSE". Sort of like in November when so many of us were out defending the "NO on 8" initiative in California.

I wish more people felt as strongly about this cause.

As much I support the "NO on 8" so many more people are affected by the "R" word. Just look around your own life. I am sure you all know an incredible amount of people who are affected by this type of bigotry!

OK, I am done with my rant.

Thank You all for putting up with me!

I got home late today, barely in time to meet Laurie's Van, so I haven't had a chance yet to read everyone's posts, but I did read the Blog by our dear friend EBJ!

Of course, we all have our own words to "LOUIE,LOUIE, I am sure.

Has anyone seen the movie "Coupe De Ville", from the early 90's, maybe even late 80's? Each brother has his own version of the song!

That is one of my most favorite movies, very funny and very poignant at the same time. Just the type of movies I love to watch!

If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend you rent it. I can't remember all the actors, but they are all very famous now! (they weren't when the movie was made), except for the Dad. (if I had more time I would have Googled the movie and told you all the actors, but alas, no)

Anyway, back to song lyrics. Sorry, I tend to get off track way too much!

I am sure I have mentioned this before. Years ago when my daughters' were teenagers Enya had a song out, "SAIL AWAY, SAIL AWAY"

Well, I was positive (due to the whales being hunted and killed at the time) that the song was titled
"SAVE THE WHALES, SAVE THE WHALES"

Seriously, if you hear that song again on the radio or whatever, close your eyes, (but please don't get into an accident), and I am sure you too will hear "SAVE THE WHALES", and not "SAIL AWAY".

Dear MARY, I want you though to really "SAIL AWAY, SAIL AWAY" this Saturday! I sure wish I was with you.

Are you going to the Eastern Caribbean or the Western Caribbean?
Both are gorgeous, I have been to both. If I had the chance, though, I would go back to the Eastern.

    Bon Voyage!!!!

Love, Peace, and Harmony to all!

  46. Donna Jean, I was one of those "hard to place" kids in elementary school. I didn't go to kindergarten but couldn't go to 1st grade because my sister was there and it would apparently, upset her. I was put in a class called Transitional 1st Grade. I didn't know it at the time, but it was for kids who had been to kindergarten but weren't ready for 1st grade. I spent my mornings helping the kindergarten teachers, then my afternoons were spent with the T1 kids. Many, if not all of them had some form of learning disability. One girl specifically, Lisa, became a good friend. She looked different than other kids, but she was nice and we had fun playing together. I now know that she had Down's Syndrome.

Even as young as I was, it broke my heart to see other kids run from her in fright. I didn't understand what the problem was. To me, these incredible individuals who have to overcome not only growing up, but growing up in a world that can be cruel to them are wonderful examples of strength, confidence and perseverence. We could all learn a thing or two from them. I know I did.

  47. DonnaJean It sure is nice to see you here. I hope all is well with you and your sweet Laurie Elizabeth and little Olive.
