Advice or Opinion?

by Mary/MI

Last week I had my hair done where I have been going for years. I have only switched hairdressers 2 or 3 times. One gal I have known there has had her 3rd baby since she used to be my stylist. I had not seen the picture of her last baby who is 3 months old now. On my last visit I asked about her children. She said they were fine and mentioned her baby photo book. I told her I would look after having my hair done. When I was done she offered her album. I took it and found an area that was not busy. I looked at the photos. There were some of her older children. Then I saw her newborn. I had no idea he had a very bad cleft pallet. It covered a great deal of his nose. I didn't know if she was watching me because she was doing someone's hair. I took my time, composed my self and took the album back to her. I congratulated her on her new baby and told her she had a beautiful family. The baby was a precious gift and beautiful in spite of its deformity. My question is, did I react right? Should she have taken me aside and mentioned it to me? Should I have said something? What would you have done?

  3. Mary...
WOW... I think you handled it well... parents don't see anything wrong with a child of theirs that has this... so they don't think to bring attention to it... hope that makes sense..

  4. Morning Glories!

Mary what you did was perfect. You congratulated her on her new baby and let her now that it was beautiful. Her baby is beautiful even tho they face challenges. I am sure she is aware of this but she loves that child no matter what and that is why she shared her baby album.

  5. Good Morning Hooters! Congrats on 1st Lynn!

Mary- I think you handled it the absolute best way possible. You told her she had a beautiful family. Regardless of what challenges the baby was born with- all babies are beautiful and loved by their parents. KUDOS on the great way you helped that women.
She probably loves nothing more than to have her children treated equally- and you provided that.

Had a lovely Mother's Day. Brunch was great and picked up my basket. It was loaded with, wine, spotted cow beer (for Jodi), honey, candle, chocolate,Lang address book, seasoned salt, a wooden yo-yo, taffy, beer cheese soup mix, beer batter mix, cranberry jams, cinnamon-cranberry bread mix, bbq sause with door county cherries, gourmet coffee and chai tee. Carmel Corn made with real Maple syrup, body bar lotion, and I can't remember the rest! The basket is really nice and heavy too- so we are guessing it was about 100.00 retail. Wahoo!!! All Wisconsin made products.

Now that was a nice door prize!

Hope everyone has a nice day.g

  11. Mek - I didn't think I would make it. My MacBook is slow today. I am rather tired so I don't think I will be racing you for 50.

  12. Mary - That was a great blog. As I said to Ibebold you answered beautifully. I don't know if I could have had the presence of mind to say the right thing. Sometimes one means well but it doesn't come out right.

  15. Happy Monday Owls. I hope everyone had a nice weekend.

Mary, I think you reacted perfectly. I hope I would have the grace to react as you did in the same situation. I'm sure the Mom was as proud of her new baby as the rest of her family and you gave her the opportunity to show it off. Good job.

Goldie, That is some basket. I must have missed something. How did you win the basket?

MEK, Good morning. I hope you are having a better day today. ☺ ♥♥♥

Tinka, congrats on 25 and enjoy your spa day.

IBB, I hope you are having a pain free day today.

Waving to Carol and all the other Owls.

The hunky electrician is here again to finish plastering the hole he had to make in the side of the house. And the cabinet guy is on his way to install the final door in the kitchen. I'm a very lucky girl.

I just had my morning cawfee, a little late but sure hits the spot.
