~ Pie-n-Beer Day ~

by Tina~in_ut

Last year I told you about Pioneer Day. It's a state holiday celebrated mostly by Mormons as the day they came to the state of Utah to settle and to also base their religion here. Well, last Sunday at church, the priest was making some announcements at the end of mass and invited everyone to get together Friday night for Pie-n-Beer Day. I couldn't help but laugh with everyone else.

This particular church is across the street from the university and quite a few students come to the 7pm mass even during the summer. Fr. Peter likes to have dinners after mass for people to get together and get to know each other. We have stayed for these dinners a few times. I have never heard of Pie-n-Beer Day, though. There is a pizza place around the corner called The Pie and there will be beer for those over 21 and root beer for those who are not.

As I said last year, I try to be out of state on the 24th. This year, no such luck. We may have guests staying with us over the weekend. This may be the first time I celebrate the day. You can bet, though, that I'll be celebrating Pie-n-Beer Day instead~

  3. From Area 51:

EBJ Glad to know no one got into your house!

Iteach that story is so sad and strange. I makes me wonder what the story is with the daughter. Why would they black out all of their windows and so many more questions.

Bonacci I was far from calm when it happened. I wrote a blog for Carol about it.

Mary our fair is coming up and I am looking forward to it!!! Yum Elephant ears. The first thing I usually buy are the raspberry scones!

Morning MEK hmmmmm hole blowing. You and Mr. MEK are certainly active!

  4. Good morning everyone!!!

    Congrats on first Lynn!

MEK-I think that is so awesome that you go to the doggy park every morning. What a neat way to start your morning.

Tina- I love that Pie&Beer theme, how cute.

  5. Good morning LynnD, MEK, & iteach!

I don't want any pie or beer this morning ... maybe later, thank you!

Electrician will be here soon, then the grandson. We are running errands all day since there won't be any power while things are being brought up to code. This will be a relief...soon we can use the microwave without standing by with the fire extiguisher! There are days I feel like Lisa Douglas, (for those old enough to remember Green Acres) but I think my hotscakes are better, lol!

  6. Good morning LynnD, MEK & Iteach!! Where's Tina this morning?

LynnD, I'm glad you're feeling better. Should we start looking for igloo rentals for you?

  7. Hi Caryn; You slipped in.

DeeDee; The Three Sisters blog from the other day has made me step back and ponder my impressions of everyone here. I've added Hot Dog Nazi to yours.

Tina, what is the deal with beer in Utah? The alcohol laws there are so complicated I just gave up. Is there a cheat sheet or something?

  8. I am off for work at the beach again. I'll check back from the road/field.

    Have a great Friday everyone!

  9. Good Morning!

TINA: Ahhh..pizza and beer..sounds good to me, but then my schedule is a little strange. Really does sound like a fun time though!!

LYNND: Congrats on FIRST..sorry you are still hurting. I hope that nasty headache goes away soon!

MEK: LMAO!!! I got the strangest picture in my mind..omg.. ;)

    ITEACH: SWAK! :D

CARYN: LOL!! I love hotscakes!! :D

    HI BONACCI!

  10. Congrats on 1st Lynn D! I hope your headache leaves soon.

Good morning Mek, Iteach, Caryn and Zona.

Tina I was thinking of fruit pies and beer and wondering why anyone would put the two together, then I read down further and it all made since. Although I like to keep my pizza and beer separate. I don't like eating when I'm drinking. It fills me up and then there is less room for the alcohol.

  11. Today should be a fun day for me. I'm going to mum's in a little while and try to convince her to go see the doctor next week (he's on vacation right now). She has two knids of morphine pills. One is a 12 hour pill(she takes morning & night) and the other is a more instant working pill that she won't take. I have concluded that if I can get the longer lasting pill increased in strength she won't have to deal with as much pain and she won't have to take the other pills that I believe make her feel strange & that's why she won't take them. If any of this makes since wish me luck. I know what I mean but I'm not sure I wrote it down so that anyone else will know. Anyway I'm off to the shower. Bye!

  12. Good Morning Hooters!
    Congrats on 1st Lynn.

Hang in there Shirley and good luck!

tina~ if there is one thing I have learned about Catholics (having several family members marry them) is that they love to host events and fundraisers that involve alcohol and gambling! I also fully support them at those times...:>)

Hope you are feeling better MEK and hi to everyone else out there!

Expecting some strong storms today. Say a prayer that we GET hail. We are about due to replace the roof and it would be great if the insurance company had to do it for us...... :)

  13. good morning ladies!!

cute blog Tina.....Utah is such an interesting mix of people......and STATE STUFF!!

Most people don't know this but Utah has its STATE POT!

    and its a dutch oven!!

Here in Texas we have a state reptile...the Texas horned lizard.....which is cool and everything but its not a pot!!

I pictured a dutch oven as being something like what the witch tried to do up Hansel and Gretel in....but Tina says its not......

I am going to be in Europe week after next for a couple of days and I may just pop over to Amsterdam and ask one of those nice ladies on the street to show me her dutch oven!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. SHIRLEY: Wishing you Good Luck and sending {{hugs}} I know how difficult this is to go through. I'm also sending good thoughts your way.

GOLDIE: LOL..ok..I hope that you get hail..but only on the roof..and just enough that the insurance company gets involved. Love this..really made me laugh!:)

    Morning DEEDEE!

BIRRRRDDDEEEE!! Congrats on a great QOTD! :D

    ReplyDelete
  15. DeeDee: Pot... dutch ovens... Amsterdam! Look out... you may get more than you bargained for!

    ReplyDelete
  16. DEEDEE: A Dutch Oven? I have a whole other idea of what that is..and it has nothing to do with a pot! ;)

Why am I not surprised you have Horny Lizards in Texas? ;)

I need to get something done around here..well, I should anyway. Have a good one guys!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm back from the dog park..

    my hole is formed!!!

we were told it would only take about 4 hours and man, these guys are good..........

They are measuring of four cool decking now......

    this is WAY too exciting..

    ReplyDelete
  18. Tina - I don't like pie - but I would sure participate in the beer part!!
    :-)

Iteach - yesterday, I bought on of those "cheater ball thrower things" and our little one had a BLAST this a.m. - cuz she wasn't having to chase down balls thrown by a "girl"!!! LOL

Goldie - let's just say I'm healing!!! thanks!!

waving howdy to Lynn, ME, Iteach, caryn, bonacci, Zona, Shirley, DeeDee, Goldie, Whabby, and all who land.......

I'm going to assume the supervisory position now!! :-)
I can't believe that I missed the REALLY cool part by being at the dog park... oh well.......

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh, MEK, I am so excited for you.

Even though I'm not a fan of water, I love watching you get excited. It makes me happy. Plus it is more excitement then what is going with me today.

    I'm cleaning out the garage...:(

    ReplyDelete
  20. I thought a dutch oven was when your dog burrows under the covers and you accidentally fart while they're in there.

    ReplyDelete
  21. OMG!! LMAO at Bonacci!! I've never heard that!

Kinda puts a whole new slant on Utahs choice of state pots!!

    ReplyDelete
  22. MEK, any idea how much longer until the first dip in the pool? It seems to be getting close.

iteach, could you handle virtual swimming?

    ReplyDelete
  23. DeeDee, are you kidding? Is there an actual device called a dutch oven? All my life I've thought it's just a mean thing to do to your dog.

    ReplyDelete
  24. LynnD~ congrats on first~

    Mek~ goofball....it's not pie...it's pizza~

Iteach~ can you just imagine the "Catholic" celebrating?~ :D

Bonacci~ the alcohol laws here are crazy~ We have state liquor stores that make you feel like ur walking into a porno shop when you go in! So I always take one of my kids with me~ :)~

Zona~ Pizza and beer is sounding good, even to me...and I hate beer~

Shirley~ good luck with ur mom today~

Goldie~ good luck with ur roof~

DeeDee~ i think everything in Texass is horny...ijs~ and I think it's rude that ur cruising to Europe and not taking any of us with you!!! (ME!!)

    Hi Caryn and Bear~

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tina, we just call those pots "Crock Pots" or "Soup Pots". I have used my now superior intellect (thanks to you) to inform my associates that they are using the term "dutch oven" incorrectly and they are insulting the culinary world.

I had some experience with the Utah state liquor stores. I think there are rules about what kind of alcohol can be served at what sort of celebration. And I'm told the beer has less alcohol content than outside the state.

The X community has survived its first casualty. The victim is resting comfortably after successfully performing a rare, underwater "face-plant".

  26. I'm sorry Tina... I meant to say thank you for the information.

  28. I don't even drink beer...but it sounds good right about now...This has been an awful day and I'm tired. First thing this morning Mom fell, she's ok, my back did not do as well after trying to unwedge her from the corner she managed to fall in. Then...I went home to take a shower and the bathroom ceiling was dripping water, seems SO left an upstairs window open in a Monsoon (he is really getting on my nerves lately). Then...My dog suddenly developed severe separation anxiety and was a hysterical mess.. I feel like I should be on a freakin reality show or something, I just hope I win the prize!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. oh scrishy~ I'm sorry about ur bad day~ When it rains, it pours! (no pun intended!

Seems to be a theme today....every time our phone rings, it's more bad/sad news! I don't want anyone else to call today! ....wait...or text....got one of those, too~

DeeDee~ what is a cunard? Is that a form of dingy or sailboat or something? Does it have oars? :D

    ReplyDelete
  30. okay.....so no sooner do I post that, and the phone rings! Who gave Lane Bryant my phone number? That was really funny! Just to let you all know...they are having a sale until Sunday....buy one item and get the second half off! :D

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why would I buy one just to take the second one half off? I ain't stripping for no lady at Lane Bryant thank you~ ijs.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Beer and Pie huh? No thank you~

Unless of course it's Lemon Meringue Pie.........

Catholics always want a reason to celebrate and guilt you into donating. I should know I am a reformed Catholic.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Tina, I will take you for a ride in my luxury yacht. Her name is Takes On Water and you can choose whether you want to row or bail.

Kgrl, is there a difference between a reformed Catholic and a fallen Catholic?

    ReplyDelete
  34. hmmm.... well I do fall down alot.

Guess it's my way of saying I opted out of Catholicism. My parents we're only allowed to marry if they agreed to raise any kids Catholic. My father was the son of a Presbyterian Minister and Mom was staunch Irish Catholic. My Dads father the Minister only wanted to know if Dad was in love and happy to marry her....he was such a good guy, and so far ahead of his time.

When we we're all old enough our parents allowed us to choose for ourselves. Two have remained Catholic, one chose Christian Something Something, and I have yet to define mine.

    ReplyDelete
  35. bonacci~ I'll settle for lunch~ I'll be down there in two weeks~

    kgrl~ Catholics don't need a reason to celebrate~ ijs~

  37. Good evening everyone! We spent all day working on our property after the downed tree damage. It was a beautiful day to do it. I think we all sweated off a few lbs!

Tina beer & pie is a staple here in Mich lol!
and yes, DeeDee has a lot of nerve going to Europe without us (me)!

LynnD I do remember your mentioning
scones at your fair last year. We don't have them here. They sound delish!

MEK, I read your comment too fast I thought it said you had 4 good men blow your hole ;-)

Caryn,I admit it! I remember Green Acres!

Shirley, I can understand her not wanting to feel bad with the meds. I never do well with any pain meds. It can sure be tricky trying to find any that don't leave you feeling nasty. Good luck.

Goldie, you made me laugh! You reminded me of a friend of mine who keeps wishing an electrical storm would hit her house so she could replace her tv!!

Scirish, you have had one bad day girl! Let's hope you got all the nastys out of the way and the week end will be uneventfu

    ReplyDelete
  38. Kgirl I almost slipped in there!
I was rewriting. That was my delete.

  39. Tina, wonderful news! Let me know where and when and I'll pick you up in my little blue buggy.

Kgrl, my sister had to become Catholic to get married as well. She quit as soon as the wedding was over. I don't know what she is now, but she pulls that, "I'll pray for you" crap on me all the time.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Scrish & Shirley; One day at a time.

Goldie, I hope your roof falls off. In a nice way.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Bonacci:

I only throw good wishes and karma credit into the air. No prayers from me, not that I don't occasionally ask for them for "believers" in my life...just ask Tina.

Squishy and Water Gun toting Shirley....you know I wish you both peaceful days filled with much laughter. I only wish my Dad was still here to be the pain in the ass he was.

  42. hey Hooters~

Just chatted with Lois Lane on IM, and she is doing ok. Mom is back under care, has had a few challenges since her heart surgery but is doing ok. Father-in-law is doing better. Life is still crazy for her and she will write a blog on her blogspot soon, but said I could let you all know that she is still alive and kicking.

For those who do so, prayers for Lois's Mom and FIL.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Kgrl; I feel honored when someone sincerely offers good wishes, prayer, good karma or good luck.

I ask a lot of questions about all religions because I am genuinely interested. I literally had zero training as a kid. I'm neither reformed nor fallen. I've not yet arrived.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Did we ever find out who that masked chest is with the Traveling Necklace?

  45. Good evening all! Our power was restored around 7pm while we were sitting at MIL's eating taco salad and staying cool.

Our home is now up to code. The electrician grimaced when I told him about our dancing breaker. When he showed me the melting/burnt wires inside the subpanel, it was I who grimaced. Geeeeeez, we were just a couple of frozen dinners from a bonfire, yikes!

The house is now properly grounded and surge-protected. #1 major expense conquered, yayyyyy!

Went shopping with MIL, came home with two chairs for our den. Got both for under $20 total at the thrift store....score!!

Sitting around waiting for my kids and DIL to arrive from Texas and hoping the house cools down soon. The window A/C units work well if you fire them up in the early morning but struggle something awful against a poorly insulated house that has been baking in the sun all day.

MEK, is that pool finished yet?

    ReplyDelete
  46. on second thought Tina.....won't you join us on our north Atlantic adventure.....I'd like to show you where the Titanic went down.....

    ReplyDelete
  47. lmbo!!! I bet you'd love to show me where it is.....I can just hear it...."MAN overboard!" do they say, WOMAN overboard? Don't forget to stop by an internet cafe at all your ports to catch up on the blogs~ :)~
