A Thank You....

As our lives have been continuing on, one of our dear friends Sacbarb has been busy taking care of her son Chad, who had major surgery. I stayed in touch with Sacbarb and thru her, I was able to have contact with her Son. I have been on a incredible journey reading and learning about his daily struggles as he continues to recuperate from his surgery. I have learned that many of you have also been in touch with Sacbarb and Chad, you all have been sending them good wishes, heartfelt thoughts and many prayers. I received the following e-mail from Chad, with his permission, I offer it to all of you as our daily blog.

**************************

Hi. My name is Chad and I'm the son of SacBarb.

On June 11, I had to have a quadruple bypass at the age of 37. My mom posted about it here on the blog and many, many people said that they would keep me in their thoughts and prayers. Some even posted on my personal blog documenting my journey through this. I Just wanted to say a big "Thank You" to the Night Owl community. I've never felt so "loved" by people that I've never met.

My healing is going slow but good. Every day is a baby step (or 7) toward a total recovery. There have been a couple of setbacks but they were both relatively minor. I'm told I should make a 100% recovery.

Thanks again to everyone for helping both me and my mother through this very difficult time. I don't think she'd have made it through all this as well as she has without all the love and support from her friends here.

One last thing...

Thanks mom for dropping out of your life at the drop of a hat to take care of the "black sheep". No words can explain how much this has helped and meant to me to have you here. There will never be words to explain my feelings for you. I may have been looking for Dad but I'm glad I came back to you. I love you.

  5. Morning Glories!

Chad it takes so little for all of us to keep you in our thoughts and prayers. Your Mom is the special one as you put it, by dropping her life to take care of you right now. Mom's are the best.

You made me teary eyed with your thoughts. What a good son to let your Mom know that you love and appreciate her. You are one lucky guy!

PS I will tell you a little secret. Most Mom's have a special soft spot for their black sheep children. BUT don't tell my kids I said that!

Thinking about both of you today.

  15. iteach, glad you called 911 for that woman!
I did the same thing a few year's ago. A teenage girl walked into my neighborhood, fleeing her boyfriend.
I heard the screaming, as did other's. I walked down the street to check it out and told a neighbor to call 911 cuz I knew he would not let her go. Been down that road and wasn't about to ignore it. After the police came, the Mr. and I drove the girl home. Found out she was pregnant. I don't know how she is doing today, I can only hope she did not go back to him. But, I know the cycle, so she probably did.

    ReplyDelete
  16. LOL, Lynn and iteach!! Now if you ask Carol which one I did...she will most def say I Pooped in!!

  17. Oh, I would like to Thank everyone for their 4th of july comment's! I tried to send/reply to everyone, but failed...sorry ;o(

I've kinda had rough week. I have this stupid condition of the bladder, called innerstial(sp) cystitis. It's been dormant for a few year's, but, decided to act up!
It's very painful and render's me useless. I'm hoping by the end of this week all pain will be gone.

It's nothing compared to what Chad and other's are dealing with, but...I just wanted you to know, I was MIA because of that......

Chad, I'm so glad to read that you are doing better.

I've met your mom, and can say she is a wonderful, thoughtful, caring person.

Thank you for writing the blog, I got teary eyed also.

Love the pics of the necklace Zona! And love the pic of Nikki, I remember that I got the necklace in time to take a picture of Paula wearing it. So sweet!

    Congrats to Tina again!

MEK it is exciting to supervise, I did a lot of that too. I always wondered if they got sick of me being out back taking pictures!

Iteach you did the right thing, you may have saved her life.

Gotta have some cawfee, I'll be back!

  26. Wow. What a neat family SacBarb has. I want one like that! I think SacBarb is a special lady who raised a special son. Kudos to her.

Tina. What happened to Eunice? Did she forget to throw the firecracker after she lit it?

    Have a great Monday, Hooters!

    ReplyDelete
  27. MEK, I've been MIA for a wee time, so maybe I just haven't caught up.

Why are there diggers, and what are you doing spying on them?

    ReplyDelete
  28. OMG I just spit my coffee all over! Zona not only are you showing cleavage but we have to see your foreplay practices to boot!

PS I think Nikki looks so regal and elegant!

MEK when is the pool party???? I would watch the guy doing the measuring like a hawk, Just sayin. They are notorious for over estimating anything with inches.

Morning Vig and Bonacci, Carol and EBJ.

  29. Happy Monday Owls.

Carol, Thanks for posting Chad's blog. He was very secretive about what he wrote so I am reading it for the first time with the rest of the Owls.

Chad, I have always said you are the one who marches to a different drummer, but never a black sheep. I love you very much and you know I would do anything for you and your brothers. After all, as you have often said, I let you live when you were a teenager. I am happy to be here with you to make sure you do what the docs tell you to do.

I know you don't usually want people to know how sweet and sappy you can be, but I have known it all the time. ♥♥♥♥♥

  45. Chad, how kind of you to share your thoughts with us 'strangers' so eloquently. Both you and Mom have been on my heart & mind daily.

Barb~~As mentioned a while back, had I known before your trip, I'd have been waiting for you at the hospital Day One. Forgive me for smiling to hear you're extending your stay into mid-August(!), because:

this week, both my car and I are going in for overdue tune-ups. Depending on the outcome, I'd LOVE to come up and take you all around my old home turf. Without going into detail here, I'm positively terrified my doc may set me on a path similar to Chad's journey, so we'll see....pray if you choose to....and I'll hope to see you real soon. Til then, much love and good thoughts. ♥♥♥

  46. Awwwww....Chad what a terrific note to your Mom. It's so hard to say those kind of things sometimes. Glad that you could.

  48. Bon'0 - I will be praying that you get good news from the doctor. I know how scary it can be.

  49. I must get something accomplished before my nap. I made the resolution yesterday that I would accomplish one thing each day. Yesterday I organized drawers and found things I had been missing for a while. That is the pay off when you get rewarded. Today I feel like doing nothing. So ends my great resolution. Time for a cup of tea.

  50. I know there are some ex-smokers on the blog and I could really use any hints that you might have on how you quit.

I ended up in the ER not breathing very well so I HAVE to quit. This is day six and I'm really starting to crave. I just ate 5 Reese's Mini Peanut Butter Cups in a row!!! I'm thinking having them in the house may not be the best of plans right now...

    ReplyDelete
  51. After being AWOL all Spring, don't want to be a blog hog here, but...

    Thank you, Tinka dear,

and to Scirish, don't touch those ciggies!!! I started at 21, and quit for the 149th time several months ago. COMMIT lozenges are the first and only thing that worked for me. Came very close to an ER trip just last week, knew I was suffocating (Iteach 'heard' this saga)...never been so scared. Take care, please.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Scrish, smoking is bad for you. Being overweight is also bad for you. I'm told that eating a lot of sugar causes diabetes. I think this is bad for you too. You may be trading one deadly disease for another.

I would give deadly diseases a kick in the ass, fly the bird at the tobacco/drug companies, say a big F-U to the politicians who instituted the new tobacco tax and just stop. Revenge and absolution would be my motivation.

    ReplyDelete
  53. scirish Congrats on being on day 6!!!! You have gone through the toughest part. Each day will become a bit easier. Like Bon'O, what worked for me was Commit Lozenges. They gave me a little bit of nicotine to get me through the drug addiction part of it while I also got used to not having the physical ritual of smoking anymore. I found that the drug store brand of lozenges were the exact same thing but considerably cheaper. I quit a little over 3 yrs ago and was diagnosed with asthma shortly afterward. At this point I had already done the damage to my lungs but am grateful that I don't have emphasema which is what they first thought. My lungs have been getting better all the time and I can really tell the difference. Keep at it! You will do it!!! Also, having a nicotine lozenge in your mouth keeps you from putting eating what you don't really need, too. :)

Bon'O Kudos to you for quitting, too.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I accidentally kept the word "putting" in my previous post when I decided to reword my thought. I was going to say that lozenges keep you from putting things in your mouth that you don't want. That just sounded wrong somehow. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  55. Scirish, Here is a message from Chad who quit smoking after his first heart attack two years ago. He used Welbutrin and the patch to quit. The Welbutrin will help with the craving/mental part and the patch helps with the physical nicotine addiction. He said he tried to quit 1700 times before and this was the only thing that worked. (side note: Chad tends to exaggerate)

The whole process takes 1-2 months and you don't have to quit cold turkey. With the Welbutrin you taper off smoking over about two weeks. His doctor gave him directions on the process. Good Luck.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Scirishy, 6 days is wonderful!

I don't have any hints to offer you, when I quit it was cod turkey.

I was a smoker for 11 or 12 years, I quit over 20 years ago. I have had pneumonia twice and bronchitis once in the past 5 years. I worry that I my smoking has come back to haunt me.

When I was in anatomy class years ago, we had a man who had donated his body to science who had died of emphysema.

It looked like someone had poured black tar into his lungs, it was horrible. Thinking of lungs trying to inflate in that condition always came to mind after that.

I wish I would have seen that before I started smoking, it would have been a deterrant, for sure.

I hear a lot of people who come into the clinic say they used the nicotine patches with good success.

Keep up the good work! You can do it!

Chad, hugs to your and your sweet mom.

We are in the 80s today, not normal for July, but a nice break. We had our Arizona temps last week.

Well, low 100s so not quite Arizona temps haha!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Zona are you implying that there might have been PORN involved in the taking of the necklace pics??

    ha ha!

    ReplyDelete
  68. what kind of fish is cod turkey? :)~

    ReplyDelete
  69. Hey Tina I didn't even catch that, see what happens when one doesn't proof read and spell check lol.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Bonacci...LOL...I'll try and remember that!

SacBarb....Tell Chad "Thank You" for me, he must be the resident expert after 1700 times :)

Bon...Are you all better now? I do know what you mean about scary..

Just Lin...LOL....Good thing you changed the wording...There are a few owls who woulda had waaay too much fun with that sentence.

Mom had a mini meltdown today AND I had to glue her crown back on...Can I tell you how much both those events made me want a cigarette??? Instead, I ate more Reese's, which is ok I guess since I somehow missed Breakfast and Lunch..

    ReplyDelete
  71. Scirish~ Use super glue next time~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  72. sheesh..I just proofread..left out BONACCI's "N"...sorry 'bout that..it must be the heat..

ITEACH: I am so sorry I missed you earlier..again..it's gotta be the heat..or I'm just a dork today..take your pick.. ;)

    In any case..HI ITEACH! :D

  73. Good evening everyone!

    Congrats on 1st Tina!

Hello to Tina, Mek, Lynn D, Iteach, Birdee, Carol, VIG, EBJ, Bonacci, SacBarb, Tinka, Mary, Just Lin, Bon'O, Scirish, Jodi and Zona!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Chad what a lovely blog! You and your mom have been in my thoughts. I wish you a speedy recovery and congrats on joining the Night Owls! ((((HUGS)))) to you and SacBarb.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Iteach congrats for calling 911. Takes a lot of guts to get involved.

    ReplyDelete
  76. So Mek let me get this straight...you have three guys working on your hole? One to dig, one to drive and one to meassure. Wow , I sure hope you're happy when they're finished! Lol!

    ReplyDelete
  77. EBJ....Ewwwww, thanks for that visual

Zona...I don't know how you do that heat thing...I was sweating my butt off and it was only 80...Mom doesn't like a/c...sigh...

    ReplyDelete
  78. Is anyone else not getting notified when they have comments on MySpace?? I just looked and I had a ton....

    ReplyDelete
  79. EBJ: NO porn..promise..lol..

SCIRISH: The a/c actually went out when I was in Denver..it only took about 20m for it to go from 80 to 95 degrees in the house. I don't like the heat, but ya kinda have to accept it if you live here. Plus..there's always the pool! :D

MS doesn't notify me either..they haven't for a long time.

HI SHIRLEY! You look delicious today! :D

    ReplyDelete
  80. Zona, no worries about spelling. Doesn't bother me a bit!

Scrish, I admire your tenacity for sticking to the program. I've known people who've been through rehab, and they always say the first 2 days are the worst. I assume since nicotine is a drug, it's probably similar. You're over the hump. Cheers to you!

MEK, you're getting a swimming pool? Shirley, make a note: I predict that we'll hear pissin' and moanin' within a year about taking care of it! Really though, they're a pain in the ass, and if I wasn't married to an idiot, I wouldn't have one.

    ReplyDelete
  81. iteach, Shirley's congrats to you regarding your 911 call reminded me... You did a good thing. I imagine this woman needs someone right now to save her from herself. I know that cycle well, and the bastard's probably kissing up to her so he can whack her around some more.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Scirish I don't think I have any words of wisdom for you when it comes to not smoking. I smoked for 20 years until 1am March 13, 2000. That night I cut up two and a half paks of cigarettes and I haven't bought another one since. I think you just have to find what works for you. I could hear my breathing becoming raspy and I said that's it. Cold turkey worked for me.

  83. Hi Everyone: MEK: I think it is very exciting you are getting your own pool. Are you going to be able to use it all year or just certain months? As I mentioned before, I have always wished for one in my own backyard.

CHAD: You wrote a very special blog today and I loved the extra message to your mom. I have been following your daily progress and it has been very interesting. Your mom is a special person....except she is a Raider fan...other than that...she is great!!

SCIRISH: You are doing great and keep up the good work. It sounds like you have a good willpower. I wish I did for dieting.

TINA: It's time to get rid of that red and blue and your face looks just plain dirty. Can't you clean up for your owl friends just a little?

ZONA: I am "amazed" by your necklace photos.
DON'T EVER TELL ME YOU ARE SHY AGAIN!!! You surprise me sometimes. I wonder if I show them to MrD if it will give me some ideas for our house? Who knows...he may start digging a pool any minute now!!

BIRDEE AND BONO: I hope you both get better soon. I know the feeling of not being able to breathe and it is very scary. BIRDEE: Maybe you just need to get some of that poop out of you. Why don't you fly around the East coast part of the nest and let em rip?

Last nights 911 call has paid off for the moment.

The police our at the house right now. She is packing up everything she can into her truck and the police are making sure he doesn't interfer.

I so hope she doesn't go back to him.

  85. iteach, I'm really interested in how this turns out. She's probably got a TRO against the guy. He'll be charged with domestic violence. Nobody's allowed to tell her that if she drops the TRO, the charges against him will be dropped. It's so important that she stand her ground right now. Either for her own safety or the next woman's.

  86. Oh, I will keep you posted. I'm one of those neighbors that looks out the window. It drives my husband crazy.

  87. Zona- Your picture was hiliarious.

At first I thought maybe it was Dianne's hand, because you were just with her. So it took me a full minute to realize it was the Mr.'s hand not Diannes. lol

  88. SHIRLEY: Dang..busted! ;)

DIANNE: No, really I AM shy..if you could see my face in the pics, you'd see it was bright red...honest.. ;)

ITEACH: Tell your hubby that that's being a good neighbor.. :)

    BON'O: I do choose to pray..and I will..kay? :)

  96. Happy Birthday Zona-Sis & Mr. Mary!

Humblest hugs of appreciation to you Tink, Dianne, Zona, Jodi, Lynn, Birdee, VIG. Luv U!

  97. Iteach~~Kudos to you. You wouldn't believe the phone calls and tearful front-window visits I fielded from domestic violence victims when working Corrections, 10% of which were "He's f-ing going to kill me if you guys let him out!", 90% of which were "I want him to come home, I NEED/LOVE him, he didn't DO anything, yada-yada".

The only good news is, at least here, even if the victim drops a Restraining Order (which btw aren't worth the paper they're written on for 'protection'), once filed the charges are in the hands of the D.A./state to pursue.

  98. Tina Congrats on first..

Chad: Glad you wrote, your words made me cry. I am glad to hear you are better and that our thoughts and prayers meant something. :)

  108. ITEACH: Now that is just creepy that you thought it was my hand on ZONA'S boob!!! ewwwwwwww Friendship does have to draw the line somewhere...

I have a new computer--a MAC and am having a frustrating time trying to figure out things. I do have the computer geek living with me but I think I am frustrating him. He tries to explain things to me and I feel like I am in second grade the way he tells/shows me. I gave it up about an hour or so ago and went to bed, now I am creeping back in to see if I can even find a site. I want all my old programs back and icons, etc. MRD tells me they are there but in just a different spot grrrr...it has made me grumpy today (among other irritations). I think I will go back to bed and maybe fall asleep early tonight.

I was "going to cook" and got ready to make something and needed a cup of milk but when I went to the refrig there was about a swallow of milk left so we had a nasty rice dish....we now have new milk as of 1/2 hour ago.....see, I told you I am grumpy.

Hope you all have a good night and sweet dreams..

    I may be back....

    ReplyDelete
  109. Dianne: Sorry you are having a rough day. LOL at the "friendship has to draw the line somewhere"...too funny. :)

Hope your day tomorrow is better.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Bebbi..

No, its seems the "wall" is a stumbling block.. I can never find it. when I get a msg that someone left a msg on my "wall" It takes me 10 min to find it.. How hard can it be to find a "wall"..

    ReplyDelete
  111. Dianne..

Sorry you are having a rough day.. just think if you go to sleep early, tomorrow will come sooner, and all will be well again..

Also.. new things just take some getting used to.. give it time..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sorry Dianne! In the back of my I kept thinking pictures will be posted soon with Zona & Dianne with the necklace, because they were just together. So then when I saw the picture, I thought holy buckets isn't Dianne kinda of quiet. Then I read the captions.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Oh, Dianne, I hope it gets better!

    ReplyDelete
  114. Carol..you are killing me! LOLOL.
At the top it says "home, profile, friends, inbox". If you click on "profile" it will take you to your "wall", that will be the first of the tabs at the top that say, "Wall, Info, Photos, boxes" and whatever else you add, like mine says "Lil Green Patch, Hatchlings".

    ReplyDelete
  115. OMG.. Bebbi... I found it.. I found my "wall".. Whew..

    TY, TY..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Ok..I am still here. I think I will just try getting up on the other side of the bed tomorrow and see how that works. :)

CAROL: I know I will "get this" and I only started with this computer late yesterday but my patience is obviously not one of my virtues.

ITEACH: If you think I am quiet, go back and watch the video again from the other day that TINA posted...I am not too quiet often.
