My Team

by Iteach

Shhhhhhh, listen....do you hear it? Listen again..........It is the faint sound of the school bell going off to start a new school year. Now is the countdown for back to school which is Aug. 24th. Last May I was so excited for a summer break and now I'm excited to go back. I am very lucky that I have a job that makes me jump out of bed every morning with a smile on my face. There was only one summer that I was not looking forward to going back to school and that was five years ago. I still tremble when I think about it.

Five years ago our school district was in a big financial mess. Unfortunately the school board had to make some hard decisions. They decided to close down one of the schools. The teachers and students from that school were moved to our building. Let me tell you something, that did not go well at all. It was a nightmare. The teachers were very upset about moving to our school and they had a very hard time adjusting to the transition. So now there were four teachers teaching second grade and I was so nervous about working with them. They had a terrible reputation of being negative. I kept telling myself, no big deal, just stay in your room and worry about yourself. Well, that would have worked until my principal shot that idea out of the water.

My principal decided each grade level needs to work like a team. He set up grade level meetings each week and always had an agenda for us to work on together. It started off all on the wrong foot. It was so hard for all of us to agree and to work together comfortably. At that time I was on my 12th year of teaching and they were all on their 28th. I basically just sat at those meetings and nodded my head. Teaching 30 children was easier then trying to work my three co-workers. I honestly didn't think we were ever going to gel, but eventually we did.

I can't even tell you when it happened, but somewhere down the road we learned to work together as a team. It was a lot of hard work and it also took time. I'm so glad I didn't give up and stuck with it. We are certainly not "best buds", but there is not all that anxiety at the meetings. I'm very proud of the accomplishments that we made together as a team. In fact one of my team members will be retiring this year and I think I will miss her. lol

I have often heard that getting along with co-workers is a common theme everywhere. Is that true? How were/are you with your co-workers?

  3. ok, off to have some breakfast and maybe a nap!!

I noticed the back to school sale's a few week's ago and thought it was way too early!!
Made me feel like summer ended already.

  4. Since I don't work anymore, I don't have to worry about co-worker's anymore. But, I did have one that alway's came in slamming her crap down, smelling of stale beer and pretended to be busy so she wouldn't have to answer the phone's. Usually by noon, thing's would be ok and it was ok to talk to her. Not really missing those day's.

  5. Have a great day Everyone!!!

  10. Morning Glories!

Birdee how many worms did you catch this morning? Congrats on first! and 2nd, and 3rd......and 10! LOL

Iteach this is so common in the work place and it seems there is always one who will keep stirring to make things stressful for all. I call them the drama people. They don't know what it is like to step off the rollercoaster so they take all of us along for the up and down ride.

Even volunteer work is riddled with these people. We have one that I have even done direct confrontation with, nothing seems to work. So now I tell her I will think about that or I try to kill her with kindness. One of my very wise Aunt's taught me this tactic. She always used to say if all else fails kill them with kindness. It drives them crazy. LOL

  11. I guess that should be 1 through 16?

  12. HI Lynn!!! I guess I'm a morning blog hog today!

    Good morning lynn and bonacci.

  16. Good Morning Bonacci!

    Goldie you crack me up!

Iteach I have been thinking about your blog and I also wanted to say that I think it is so wonderful that you have a job that you love!

  17. Good morning everyone!!!

Aren't I the blog hog, two days in a row!

However, it will all be coming to an end soon when that darn school bell rings.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Birdee, that is a funny discreption of your former worker. lol

Lynn- I forgot all about that phase "kill them with kindness". I need to remember that one.

I'm going back to school this afternoon to work on my bulletin boards. Here we go!!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Good Morning, HOoters. I'm baaaaacccckkkk!!! Had a great time on the Alaskan cruise. I will write more about it at another time. I have another eye exam appointment....the 3rd! These new glasses are terrible. Everything in the distance is out of focus. I'm getting very frustrated and annoyed with it.

Birdee Congrats on being the early bird today.

iteach Yes, on the ship they did fold the end of the toilet paper into a point. :)
Thank you for the blog today. I have worked with some very annoying people as well as some really great ones.

Lots to do today. Will check back in later. Hope you all have a very fine day.

  20. oh Jennifer~ I'm afraid it's like that at work, school, clubs, and even blogs~ I love LynnD's "kill them with kindness"! I've seen first hand what that does! :D I also like to ignore....if you can't say anything nice...don't say anything at all! kwim?~ (unfortunately, some people would never be talking again if they followed that!).....or is that a "fortunately?" lol~

Birdee~ you must be pooped! (no pun intended!!!)

Good Morning to LynnD, Bonacci, and Goldie~

    ReplyDelete
  21. Happy Monday!!

(no dog park - our little one is NOT happy with me - she is sulking)

    I AM SOOOOOOOOOOOO EXCITED!!!

  23. Hey, MEK, what is pebbleteching? That is a new word for me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. J/L can't wait to hear about your trip!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Good morning, everybody! Last day of Lazy Bear today... then back to reality!

Iteach: A bunch of my colleagues in my division at NASA had to learn to work together over the past year to support vibration studies on astronauts. It was quite the eye-opening experience, but on the whole, it worked quite well!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Tina I've even seen it happen at church meetings. Ughhhhhhh

Goldie, does your boss give you perks since your the only employee? :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Okay, now that sounds fascinating, vibration studies. My mind went right to the gutter.........

    ReplyDelete
  28. Jennifer~ I've seen it happen in gutters~ :)~

    ReplyDelete
  29. Iteach - the pebbleteching is the final finish in the pool - instead of tile - it will look like little pebbles in a sea of blue - we picked a color that will make it look like the clear blue of the ocean... I can't wait to see how it's actually done...

(and, sadly - I might not even be here - our newest addition has an appt - so I'll probably get to see set up and then when I get home - they'll be done!! :-( oh well)..

  30. I have a message from Dawn:

Please tell everyone thanks so much and you guys have helped me so much. Just knowing that I have you awesome people as friends and that I will always have you guys to talk to makes me feel so good. Thank you so much. I haven't got to talk to deedee either, can you tell her I am feeling better too.

  31. Great blog JENNIFER. With the occasional exception, I have always been most fortunate regarding my fellow employees. Only a couple of them had some ethics problems, and were ultimately escorted out the door. I was also blessed with great employers.

MEK - You will post a picture of your completed pool won't you. It is sounding beautiful.

JENNIFER & EUNICE - My mind went to the same place.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I think it's so apropos that this blog was published on a MONDAY!!!!!

    Mondays suck~

My office is at the Maintenance Facility for the company I work for. It is by far glamorous. I posted a couple of pics on my FB of the harbor portion...so not what the full picture is right Tina? And I work with my fair shar of morons. And they are all men. Me and 30+ men of varying intelligence, common sense skills, math ability, English as a first language challenged, height, weight and hair styles...lol.

Not to mention the lack of personal hygeine. Ewwwww. Now mix that with tempers, ego, and their sudden lack of memory should they have done something wrong and you have my workplace.

They all dispise me, yet I am the one they come running to to fix their problem, get them their parts that they cannot find, straighten out their problems with their paychecks or vacation time. It makes me chuckle when one at a time they come into my office and ask me Can you do me a favor? They acknowledge me one on one, but in the peer pressure crowd they all forget...lol. I know better, but this place would have a heck of a time getting things accomplished should I decide to leave. I am by no means indespensible but chuckle at the thought~

Oops guess I was venting at the same time....sorry to bore you all.

    ReplyDelete
  33. JENNIFER: Since I quit the workforce 2-1/2 years ago, I miss my co-workers the most. We had a great group for over 7 years and now everyone is spread to other places. I have been able to keep these friendships but it is not the same as working with them and talking with them every day. I have had fairly good co-workers but some managers I could have done without!!

COUNTRY REMINDER: There is a special with Sugarland on tonight. They are not my favorite but I know some of you do like them.

MY WHINE: Ok, I went in for a root canal on the OTHER side today and had that specialist look over everything and give me a third opinion. Yes I need this root canal but there seems to be infection under the one from six weeks ago. It happens to about 8% of people. Yipee that I get to be in that %. They will take out that root canal in two weeks and put anti-biotic in there for two weeks and then put the root canal back in again. They "say" they won't charge anymore than what insurance will pay...we shall see as the consignment form does say there could be a problem. If that doesn't work, then they do small (?) gum surgery with stitches but "let's try the removal of the root canal first. I might add that not only do you get three shots on the side in the back but one in the roof of your mouth and I might just say that it hurts like f......hell!!! No pain pills this time, just lots of ibuprofen which is probably good since the vicodin made me throw up. That's my tale of woe....and now I think I will head off to slumberland!!! Thanks for listening to my bitching!!!

BTW, hello to a;; the owls and DAWN, I am so glad you have made it home safe and sound. Thoughts are going out to you.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Ok...one more bitch and then I promise I will be done. My husband has something blaring on the TV with a pirate voice. He said it is some Zorro movie and it is giving me an additional headache and grouchy=ness and I have only been home 45 min. I was at the dentist for over two hours!! Ok....done.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. My root canal went just great~ No problems....even went to Hawaii the next day~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  36. Dear Tina, Please shut up. Now what was it I said to you in that video along with shut up?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Um... I seem to remember it still was a wee bit sore there Ms. Tina, and it was hell to get you to go before coming here..... ijs~

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jennifer....you would not BELIEVE the perks I get!! prrrrrrrrr....

Dianne- so sorry about your mouth! It gives me the creeps just thinking about it, and boy do I ever feel your pain.

k-girl, so sorry you have to work with all those morons. At least they are smart enough to know you are the only one who is going to fix the problems.

    Welcome back justlin.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Well Hell's Bell's- Mark that down Shirley!! Gotta go have a smoke now....oh wait, I don't smoke.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Goldie:

When I saw who was marching I just had to let you have it~ lol

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks Kgirl for reminding Tina that it was a wee bit sore and forbtelling us.

I also forgot to say welcome home JL. Glad u had fun

    ReplyDelete
  42. Good afternoon/evening Hooters! Let's all fun at my expense! bonacci, yes, the bonacci who doesn't drink or take drungs is HIGHER THAN A KITE! Thanks to the miracle of medical science, I seem to be having difficulty putting sentences together that make sense.

So go ahead, play some head games. First, I won't don't have the mental capacity to know I've been insulted, and second, I probably won't remember it after they stop giving me drugs. So let's have some fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. P.S. I will be catching up on comments but not sure they'll make any sense.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Just Lin; Will you write a blog about your cruise?? Please?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Diane, you are special. Like scoring in the upper 8% of the academic world. Except for the pain, you're in the top 10!

Sorry about the multiple posts, but I won't remember longer than about 15 seconds so I have to take advantage of that.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tina, I"m surprised that flying after a root canal didn't have you screamig the whold way.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lynn D., I can't remember, but I sure do hope you have dental insurance. Wow, I can't believe all the dates you have had with dentist this summer.

    ReplyDelete
  48. MEK- Pebbleteching sounds so neat and pretty. I learned a new word today. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Oh, Just Lin; Again, drug-induced memory problems. I wrote of my impression of you and wanted to tell you why. First, Lin is an Asian name. The asian culture values honor and humility. The "Just" part ofo your handle suggest humility, and your posts suggest that you are honorable. Hence the asian influence I equate with your persona.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Kgirl good for you for venting. I wouldn't send any of those guys x-mas cards.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lani, has your granddaughter start to roll over, yet? I think that happens between 3 to 4 months. Wow, it seems like ages ago for me.

    ReplyDelete
  52. lol Jennifer....trust me I don't

    ReplyDelete
  53. MEK; Your pool sounds beautiful. In any light.

Tina; Thanks for letting us know about Dawn. I've never "met" her,,, but my heart really goes out to her.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Bonacci, I have no idea what you are on and I have no plans to make fun of you.
    That would be mean. :(

    ReplyDelete
  55. Kgrl; Remember what I wrote about you being independent and not taking crap from anyojne? I think people see you as someone who gets things done.

As far as hygiene, I've learned to be happy with a conveniently placed bush.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Bonacci....lol you are correct I don't take crap from too many people.

Hey how many fingers am I holding up?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Jennifer, I don't think we've had exchanges in the past.... It is perfectly acceptable to tease me.

As far as what I"m "on", I'm not quite sure. Verced when my broken bone was set as well as to keep me from strangling the doc sewing me up.

Then an assortment of painkillers which I firmly believe have transported me to another planet.

I am just beginning to feel what I think "drunk" might feel like, but there is a medic here waving a needle whicfh I believe is intended for me.

I am fine. Really. It's okay to joke with someone who's fine!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Kgrl: Fingers? You're holding up fingers? I thought I was imagining them. Hey, have you ever heart of dirt boarding?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Bonacci... do elaborate as to how said broken bone got broke.

you know what fine stands for right?

F'up, insecure, neurotic and emotional....just say your ok k?

    ReplyDelete
  60. actually yes I have....quite a tricky little sport. They do sand boarding here.

So which bone done did get broke? And was Dirt Boarding the cause?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Bonacci: That's funny! So's K'Girl!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Did you try unsuccessfully to do an Akoni flip?

    ReplyDelete
  63. Di-Di~ I was in pain BEFORE....not after~ :)~

    ReplyDelete
  64. um not true....you may have not been in excruitiating pain, but you still complained it was sore!!!! if you truly we're not in pain you sure used it to your advantage the first couple days here....bwahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  65. Kay, I'm not fine. At least I don't think that's what I am. I'm okay.

My clients were dirtboaring which is like downhill skiing. On dirt hills with modified 4-wheel drive type skateboards.

Someone lost control and came towards me, which caused me to try to get out of the way. I stepped in a hole and tumbled (just a little) down the hill, hitting some rocks on the way.

I broke that bone (from the pothole) just above your ankle. A clean break - no bones poking through skin, but a clear snap, according to the x-ray.. The rocks I landed (skidded?) on cut my shoulder and inner arm (stitches).

I try to see the good side, which is that I got the day off from work and all expenses are paid by the production company I work for. I can't complain about pain because I don't feel any. So it kind of sucked, but I'll make the best out of what happened.

    ReplyDelete
  66. JENNIFER - I was sorry to see you are no longer on my space. I love seeing the pictures of your children. Maybe I should consider facebook.

Georgina is starting to roll over and is sitting up a bit. Jennifer is nursing, but once in a while we give her a bottle. Yesterday she held her bottle, again, just a bit. I can't believe how fast children grow up. I can't believe I have a 33 year old daughter. When I was growing up it seemed like it took forever.

P.S. I should say pulling herself forward when she sits on our laps, not sitting by herself.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Hey Whab! Wanna give me my next injection? I think I'm graduating to pills after that, so here's your chance to stick it to a woman!

    ReplyDelete
  68. damn~ that's messed up. I think I would rather be recouping from actually doin the sport than being the innocent bystander.

Enjoy those lil white or blue pills...drink lots of water k?

Hopefully you got the air boot and not a regular cast. Regular casts suck the big one.

    ReplyDelete
  69. BIRDEEE...3 in a row?? WOO HOO! I wasn't sleeping in...I was at work!

JUST LIN...welcome home!! Can't wait to hear all about it! I second the notion for you to write a blog about it!

MEK...so kewl about your pool! BTW, Tiger is here as he is playing in the Firestone Open in Akron! BIRDEE told me there is a hilarious clip of Tiger on TMZ...have you seen it?

GOLDIE...I guess your sleeping with the boss has a completely different connotation!!

LYNN...I think that whether it is work, volunteering or what have you, it is the group dynamics that can make or break it. Kill 'em with kindness is my mantra, too.

LANI...so nice to see you back here. I hope you will be back more frequently.

TINA..."if you can't say anything nice...don't say anything at all! kwim?~"...what about all the mean and nasty things you say to me?????!!!!!!! I guess if you only said nice things to me we would never talk!!!!! SMAK, oopsies I mean SWAK!

DIANNE...I'm so sorry you having such a painful time. I hope this is soon over and you will be pain free again. How was the reunion?

WHABBY...NASA vibrators?? They are sure branching out!

KGIRL...Those morons are just threatened by you. It's funny (not really!) how people can talk shit about you, ignore you or be mean...until they want something from you. Then you become their BFF. Bullcrap!

BONACCI...are you accident prone, or what! Didn't you just have a broken ankle from the shopping cart crash? Was it the same ankle??
You have quite the adventurous career!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Kgrl; It's really not a tregedy. In my world, just bumps & bruises. No permanent damage. If I were actually doing the dirtboarding, well then who knows what could have happened.

I have an air cast to deal with the swelling. I'll get a waterproof fiberglass cast tomorroww. I think I'll be able to get one I can use without having to use crutches all the time. The pills are yellow ard the bottle says Norco with the number 10.

Funny that we're talking about bosses today. I wish I could be angry with him or the guy who almost hit me, but even through all the jokes on their part, I'm happy with the way it was handled.

A question for everyone: Will those pills really make me sick to my stomach? Should I eat or not ehen I take them?

    ReplyDelete
  71. JENNIFER...great blog! Over all my working years I suppose I have just learned to expect nothing from co-workers! If friendships form, then it is icing on the cake. I have worked in groups and not to sound egotistical, I have usually become the leader of the group and with that came the most amount of work. But I would rather do it myself then have to redo what someone else did.

I have made some good friends with people I have worked with. One of my best friends I met at work about 27 years ago.

It is so nice to hear your excitement about your work. I'm sure it shows in the classroom and your kids are lucky to have you as their teacher.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh and Kgrl; You should send those guys Xmas cards. After you wipe your dogs' hienies with them.

    ReplyDelete
  73. NORCO is hydrocodone and acetominephen. It can be taken with or without food as desired.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Hmmm,seems I scared everyone off.

    ReplyDelete
  75. It takes a lot to scare me away.

    ReplyDelete
  76. However, I do have to leave to the gas station. bbl.....:)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Thank you MO. It's nice to see you also.

DIANNE - I am sorry you are having so many dental problems, however, you are making me feel braver about my own forthcoming dental visits. If my friend can do it, I can do it. I hope that one day SOON you will be through with all of it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Thanks, Mo. I'll wait until everything else wears off then see if I can just take plain old Advil. I don't feeling "strange", but I'm glad I did when all those medical things were being done. The worst is over, I think.

I'm turning in for the night. Hope evyong has a great night!

Bonacci Thanks for the kind interpretation of my name. My real name is Linda. Does that change your mind? LOL So sorry to hear you are injured again. Hope you heal quickly and better than new.

Kgrl You don't do what? Send the guys cards or roll over? LOL

Dianne I feel soooo bad for you with all the dental issues lately. I am dreading...truly, aboslutely dreading...going to the dentist. I'm going to have to have some major work done and I hate going to the dentist more than anything. I am going to have to put on my big girl panties and just do it very soon. :(

Today our ocean was almost like glass. There were several guys out there paddle boarding, at least I think that's what it's called.
