A few weeks ago I dedicated a Sunday morning video to my dad. It was so easy to do, because my dad and I enjoy the same type of music. It was so much fun to write it and pick out the music. So now the catholic guilt has kicked and I feel guilty for not doing one for my mom. I know exactly why I've been dragging my heels to write this blog, because I know exactly which song I have to pick.
When I was growing up my parents always played the music they grew up with in the car. It didn't bother me at all, I loved most of that music. My mom and dad always took turns playing their favorite tape. I loved it when it was my dad's turn. I could expect the Beach Boys, Jan & Dean, or Fats Domino. However, when it was my mom's turn I would totally cringe when she picked......Gene Pitney.
Oh man, did his music use to drive me crazy. I would close my eyes and try real hard to drown his music out. Boy, did my mom like his music. She would sit there with a slight smile on her face with a calm far away look. For the life of me I couldn't understand why she liked him. So now 30 years later, I still don't understand. However, through maturity and growing old, I have learned to appreciate how he makes my mom happy. So I have caught myself once or twice actually requesting it in the car with her, because I like to see her face light up.
Good Morning Everyone!!
ReplyDelete2?
ReplyDeleteGunfunnit~ Way to go fuzzy~
ReplyDeleteok I thought I would wait up to take a shot at first, seeing as I just got home from playin poker. I walked out $80 up for the night, but beating who I beat was much more of a reward...lol.

ReplyDeleteNo Problem MEK, I'm kinda liking this neatness stuff. LOL
ReplyDeletegoing through clothes now, cleaning out drawer's, already washed my bathroom wall's....
Morning has broken! Did you hear it?? ;)
ReplyDeleteGood morning Everyone!
ITEACH: I have heard of Gene Pitney..but never heard Gene Pitney sing. I don't know why that is though. Your blog reminded me how my mom always liked Jerry Vale..and I couldn't stand him! As a kid, I would cover my head with a pillow, kick my feet and make gagging noises whenever she played his records! I was such a brat. As I got older, I learned to tolerate him though..and for the same reasons you tolerate Gene Pitney now..because it made mom smile.
Thanks for the great blog today ITEACH!!
Yesterday I cleaned out my g-daughter's room. We had crap piled in there from when we redid some of the room's. Threw out all kind's of crap. The closet look's alot bigger now. lol
ReplyDeletedidn't realize how much of her clothes I still had from when she younger. Drawer's are all empty now. Boy, she had alot of book's, too.
BIRRRRDDEEEE!! Congrats on FIRST! I'm glad our chanting is working and that your feeling better! I was in cleaning mode this morning too..but it only lasted an hour. Once the sun came up...I was over the whole washing, dusting and puttin' away thing! ;D
ReplyDeleteKGRL: Congrats on the win and the added satisfaction of who you beat! Now get some sleep!! Sweet dreams! :)
MEK: Have fun with the pups at the park..I'm crossing my fingers that you get there early enough..kwim?? ;)
BIRDEE: I have four closets, two dressers and a couple rooms to clean out..I don't think the garbage truck is going to be big enough for all we'll get rid of when we finally start de-crapping!! ;)
ReplyDeleteGood morning everyone!
ReplyDeleteOh, heavens, I just could not push play on that video this morning. Too early this morning for his voice, I need my diet drink first.
Yeah Kgirl won!!!!!
Birdee way to go with the cleaning!!
MEK I hope it is a cool day for you. :)
Zona, I don't know if I ever heard of Jerry Vale, I will have to youtube him.
JENNIFER: Good Morning! Don't youtube him..spare yourself..lol..
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteWow the birdmeister beat out the turtle! LOL I think there might be a parable in there somewhere but my brain is not fully functioning!
Kgirl way to go being $80 bucks up!
Jennifer (that feels weird) Iteach I can so relate. My Dad started out listening to rock and roll and pop when I was a kid but then he veered off at some point and turned into a country and western fan. The song that sticks out for me the most was Your Cheatin Heart by Hank Williams. There were days when I thought if I hear that song one more time I am going to throw his eight track player out the window!
As I have gotten older I can appreciate this music a little better. Like you said it makes him happy.
Waving at MEK, Zona, Birdee, Kgirl and Jenniferteach!
JENNIFER - Not familiar with Gene Pitney, but I am familiar with the song. A really cool accapella group from Canada named The Nylons sing this song!! Not real fond of the Pitney one, but good for you for making your Mom smile!!
ReplyDeleteBIRDEE - Congrats on 1st!!
TURTLE - Congrats on the win!!
Waving a wing @ MEK & ZONA.....10:12 am and still only 64 degrees here....ijs!! :O~
Off to start the laundry that I avoided doing yesterday. I hope everyone has a great Sunday!!
LYNN D!! Hello to you....we were typing @ the same time! How's that sweet Ritchie doing?
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st Birdee! You are a busy gal this morning!
Kgirl, glad you won some $$ and beat who you wanted to beat! You should sleep good! Sweet dreams!
I haven't heard this song in ages... I am not sure if Gene sang something besides this?? Was he a 1 hit wonder?
My mom likes Rod Stewart, so I don't mind when she plays his CDs.
I'm baking some egg rolls now as it will be too hot later on.
Back to my laundry. Hope everyone has a nice day today!
JODI: Another mark for you!! ;) It's 94 here right now..is the tube ready?? :D
ReplyDeleteLYNND: Oh, I wish you would expand on that parable! ;)
EBJ: We try not to use the oven before midnight...now why did that sound pornish? ;)
23
ReplyDelete25 for TINKA! :)
ReplyDeleteZona - it is TOO hot!!!! I dont' care how early you get to the dog park - it's just HOT!!!
ReplyDeleteJodi - quit rubbing it in!!
Iteach - I can't remember what my mom used to listen to - I know she LOVED watching American Bandstand back in the OLD OLD days!!
thanks for picking the Video of the day!!
waving howdy to Birdee, K'Girl, Zona, Iteach, Lynn D, Jodi, EBJ and all who land!!
I'm going to try to go back to bed...
Hi Jodi! According to my daughter he is doing great and driving her crazy! LOL He has in the last month mastered walking and now has running down. Hehehe Mom has a hard time catching him.
ReplyDeleteHe also figured out that a hat must go on the head in the last few days. He has started wearing any hat he can find! LOL
Zona I am so tired today that I am lucky that I could think of what a parable is!
Much to do and I need to get my sorry butt in gear and accomplish something here at home.
Hi EBJ! EBJ has the cool Mom!
Here is a fun Sunday quiz!
ReplyDeleteINDEPENDENCEDAYQUIZ
Lynn, Ritchie sounds adorable!
ReplyDeleteZona, I try to do all cooking in the mornings, we've been having super hot weather like you and MEK.
Well not quite as hot as you, but upper 90s to low 100s.
Lynn D. I had no idea that Ritchie had even started walking, what a fun milestone!
ReplyDeleteJodi, I have a lot of laundry too!
ReplyDeleteEBJ- I wish he was a one hit wonder. He has a lot of songs and I think I've heard them all five hundred times.
Birdee, congrats on #1
ReplyDeleteKgirl kinda early for #2 ijs
Glad you made some $$$!!
You all are hurting my little feelings. I love Gene Pitney! And no he was not a one hit wonder. He wrote Ricky Nelson's "Hello Mary Lou", 'Half Heaven, Half Heartache" (my fave),"It Hurts to be in Love","Only Love can break a Heart", The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" and many more. He was very popular in the UK, but was from the Boston area. Mr Mary and I went to one of his last shows before he died 2 yrs ago. He looked and sounded great.
I am going to sulk all day now...lol!!
Good morning feathered friends!
ReplyDeleteBIRDEE...wow, another 1st for you! You must be on an adreneline high! Don't over do it, k?
K-GIRL...up 80 bucks...yahoo!And beating a rival...priceless!
EBJ...I try not to use the oven...period!
MEK...I hope you get some sleep and stay cool.
ZONA...you and Mr. Z gonna do some "swimming" today? LOL!!
HODI...can I bring my laundry over? If I leave now, I can be there in about 8 hours...9 with potty breaks!
LYNN D...You have surely been a busy little owl! And Ritchie sounds so cute! Do you and your daughter have web cams so you can watch him hit his milestones?
JENNIFER...I think the only thing I remember of Gene Pitney is one song about a town. I think his voice was very falsetto-ish and if my memory serves me, I think he sounded haunting to me. My brother liked his music when I was a little kid. My mom liked rock and roll music! When I first got her cable, she watched MTV ALL DAY LONG! She hated Mick Jagger and LOVED Pat Benetar!
MARY...I am so sorry I hurt your feelings. You can say something bad about Jon Bon Jovi and we will be even!!
ReplyDeleteBTW Jerry Vale was Italian :)
ReplyDeleteMO, I have JBJ's Video lol!!
ReplyDeleteMary, sorry I hurt your feelings... I didn't mean to. I really don't know anything about Gene, though.
ReplyDeleteMo, my dad took my mom to see Rod Stewart in concert a couple years ago.
It was at an outdoor amphitheater, and they had a blast!
Zona, I am hooked on Mortys TV now! I love getting the spoilers!
Jodi I'm on the 3rd load of laundry with 2 more to go.
I have more than usual today, because I cleaned out a closet recently and found clothes that are still keepers, but need to be washed.
MO: Maaaaaybeeee... ;)
ReplyDeleteMARY: I just Googled Jerry Vale..his real name is Gennaro Luigi Vitaliano...wow..
JENNIFER: I do know a Gene Pitney song! "Only Love Can Break a Heart"...and MARY, I kinda don't not like it.. ;)
EBJ: Try "Joker's Updates"..it's a good site for BB too...
ReplyDeleteBirdee..
ReplyDeleteFirst again.. fun! :O)

Wow you had a late nite.. hope there was some drinking involved...and very glad for your reward.. it does feel good doesn't it.. :O)

ReplyDeleteNot to worry Pitney bashers I have a sense of humor lol!
ReplyDeleteI do miss the days when I could actually understand the words and not have to google them :).
My parents never listened to secular music so my memories of their music was "The old Rugged Cross" and" Give Me that old Time Religion".
Now my tastes are varied to blues, rock, pop, and country.
I think we all have our "oldies" that bring back special memories. Your kids will roll their eyes about them too lol!!
A sweet vengeance! :):)

lmbo!!! I LOVE this song...He is one of my favorite singers of all time!!! I can't believe you don't like him, Jennifer. Omg!!!! I'd pick one of his songs over...say...JBJ anytime~ (i'm trying not to piss off Mary!) :D
ReplyDeleteJennifer....that is the sweetest blog ever...so cute....and I couldn't listen to the song all the way thru, either! :)~
Birdee~ Congrats on first~
I'm off to stare at a ship at see!~
This is driving me absolutely nuts! A movie keeps running through my head, but I can't remember which one or who was in it. The only thing I can remember is a woman doing kind of a strip dance to the song. It keeps going through my head over and over. Maybe it will pop in when I stop thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteHave a glorious Sunday everyone.
LANI: There was a movie called "A Town Without Pity" that used this song in it's soundtrack. It starred Kirk Douglas...is that the one you're thinking about? Oh..and I googled it, of course..lol..
ReplyDeleteBEAR: After midnight?
CAROL: Please send the thunder, lightning and rain this way!! btw..I hope you're not squished..ijs.. ;)
TINA: Has there been a sighting yet? ;)
Tina, I didn't buy that for a minute lol!! Thanks anyway :)

Al Mekal report..
Tiger Woods just won his 69th (yes, 69th) tournament!!!
:-)
MEK, and he did it here in Michigan!!
ReplyDeleteWe are humbled by his huge 69er lol!!
ReplyDeleteZONA - It just dawned on me....."Looks who's Talking". Kirsty is in the kitchen doing the dance with a kitchen towel.
ReplyDeleteAll of you with your sunny weather and rainy weather, even when extreme, are so blessed. The weather in Pacifica does absolutely NOTHING.
Lani, I just googled your weather
ReplyDeleteWeather for Pacifica, CA
70°F
Current: Partly Cloudy
Wind: W at 6 mph
Humidity: 61
Is this good or bad?
That is our weather here in Mich.
Zona: Quoting you:
ReplyDeleteEBJ: We try not to use the oven before midnight...now why did that sound pornish? ;)
LOL!
Birdee: Congrats on First!
ReplyDeleteGood Sunday evening to all.
Hi MARY - It is pleasant today, however, no sun, just gray. We almost never get any rain. I know I shouldn't complain, and I am grateful we don't flood here or have tornadoes.
ReplyDeletejust swooping to wish everyone an excellent Monday!!!
