its seems like forever the kennedy name in my life
i was very young when president kennedy
was killed i remember my mom, always talking of him,
with sadness in her voice, he was their future,
and without him the world seemed so sad, as i grew,
his children grew with me, again the name kennedy lasting forever in my mind

camelot, the story of king arthur and his knights
of the round table, this camelot has been associated
with the kennedys for many years, and i have seen why,
a king and his followers, there is a quote
by the endearing jacqueline kennedy
that was taken from camelot "don't let it be forgot,
that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment
that was known as camelot"
that is the story and the myth of how it began
i was on the beach at the jersey shore,
lying on a beach blanket with the atlantic ocean
a few feet from me when on the radio it was announced
the son of camelot, john jr,
was missing, his plane lost from radar over the atlantic
i remember thinking, he is dead, he cannot survive this,
the beautiful couple that i envied so much, dead together
at the bottom of the ocean, this ocean that i loved so much
had taken away a idyllic couple, i stared at it with dread
it seemed to be a kennedy legacy
longevity for this family was not to be

Good Morning Everyone!!!
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first Birdee!
Carol I cannot comment at this moment as I am sick to my stomach and nerves are raw about many things I have read this morning that people in this country are doing and saying that in my opinion are stirring the waters for another JFK and Bobby Kennedy moment.
I will be back in a bit.
Bam!! 3
ReplyDeleteGood Morning!
ReplyDeleteCAROL: I have grown up with the Kennedys too. Although I was only 4 years old, I remember sitting in front of our black and white TV watching the funeral prosession for JFK. It was a rainy day and we had the picture window curtains open. I remember the dark gloomy sky matched my mom's sad eyes. I don't know if I understood exactly what I was watching..but the memory has been with me all these years.
I stayed up and watched the search for John when his plane was lost..I prayed so hard that he and his wife would be found alive..it was not to be. Once again sadness surrounded the Kennedy family.
It seems like the end of an era has come with the passing of Teddy. The younger Kennedys don't seem to have the charisma or the drive that their parents did.
Even with all we've learned about them in the ensuing years..there was still something very special about the Kennedy dynasty..something I doubt we will ever see again.
Wonderful blog today CAROL, thank you.
FIVE
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!!
ReplyDeleteGood Morning..
Birdee - congrats on first..
waving howdy to Birdee, Lynn, DeeDee, and Zona and all who land.
I hope everyone has an excellent day!
:-)
Congrats on FIRST Fuzzy BIRDEE!
ReplyDeleteLYNND: It is scary to see and hear the hatred..and the fact that they aren't afraid to scream it from the rooftops is very worrisome.
HI DEEDEE..I see you're BAMing away this morning! :D
HI MEK! Pull up a chair and stay awhile! :)
ReplyDeletecpgem - thank you for your blog today.
ReplyDeleteI think we all consider the Kennedy's our "royal" family..
10
ReplyDeleteZona - wish I could - but today is running mom's errands and her many doctor appts...
ReplyDeletehave a great day!! :-)
MEK: Ok..maybe later..You have a good day too! :)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeletecongrats on 1st birdee- good morning lynn, deedee,Zona and MEK!
Carol, I remember when John Jr. was missing- I was in MI at my sisters summer house and we spent all day in front of the tv.
I think that no matter who you are or what your politics, you have to acknowledge the tremendous amount of goodness this family has done for the people of this country. Everything from Special Olympics to Cobra insurance.
No one is without faults and certainly the Kennedy's had plenty of them- however I think in the end the good outweighed the bad. I hope they all rest in peace now.
Carol, I feel the same way. There's just something about those Kennedys. I was even wrecked when Jackie died!
ReplyDeleteAnd Bobby... what would history have been like if he had been elected President in 1968 rather than Nixon? What if Watergate had never happened? What if the plug hadn't been pulled on NASA's moon missions?
What if?
Good morning, HOoters!
ReplyDeleteBirdee Congrats on first! You're getting very good at that.
LynnD I'm sorry your nerves are so frayed. It is true that the current lies and hate being spouted is abhorent and sickening. Those people who sit around thinking up just the right angle, the right spin, the right buzz words to whip people into a fearful and hateful frenzy will surely go to hell if there is one.
DeeDee I've said it before and I'll say it again.....I love the way you enter a room.
Zona I was in high school when JFK was shot. I remember watching the slow funeral procession and the horse drawn carriage carrying the his coffin, too. I also watched on a black and white TV which certainly was appropriate for the extremely sad and somber mood.
MEK Hope you have a great day and all your errands go smoothly. Your mom is so lucky to have you help her.
Goldie I hope you are spared from having to deal with any morons and idiots today. ;)
Bear We can only imagine what might have been.
Carol Thank you for writing the blog today. Being a family of great wealth, they were always thankful for what they had and worked tirelessly in the way of public service. They didn't just talk the talk, they also walked the walk. The Kennedy dynasty may have come to an end with the passing of Teddy but maybe not. We still don't know if one of the many grandkids might not end up taking the reigns. JFK, Bobby, and Teddy all had their human problems and failings but the good they did for others far outweighs any of those faults. We have all benefited from their time here. What a great legacy they left.
The Kennedy family is a great source of pride for me as an American. And Ted really hit his stride after overcoming much personal adversity...to leave a great legacy. I am hoping to see Caroline have the opportunity to serve our country on a national government level...keeping the Kennedy name at the level to which the Kennedy brothers and sisters have elevated it....
ReplyDelete***********
The rest of this is just me thinking out loud and its not meant to offend anyone......
The Kennedy's were the closest thing we ever had to American royalty. And that era has all but ended now with Senator Kennedy's death. Out of Rose and Joe's 9 children...they lost 2 in plane crashes and 2 to assassins bullets by the time Rose was 78....and you know her health was great until 1992 when she had that horrible stroke.....since her death in 1995... 4 more of her children have died leaving Jean....the next to the youngest...Ted who has been recently eulogized so beautifully was the baby. All the Kennedy men had one thing in common for sure.....they couldn't keep their peckers in their pants.... The old man cheated on Rose with Gloria Swanson...for one... Ted with Mary Jo......John and Robert both with Marilyn Monroe... which is fine with me...their wives were probably getting some on the side as well.....well...maybe not Ethel.... But the Kennedy Clan certainly had grace under fire.....and teeth...a lot of big teeth....Lord…..those people could TEAR UP an ear of corn…..ijs
Happy Thursday Owls.
ReplyDeleteCarol, the Kennedy legacy will continue with some of the younger ones, but it will never be the same. It was sad to watch Ted's funeral because it really cemented the end of an era. Even though there was a lot of controversy surrounding Ted's early adult life, the people of Massachusetts still loved him enough to keep him in office for 47 years. He will be missed.
Hello Hooters! I've been busy busy and haven't visited lately. So sorry!
ReplyDeleteI think the Kennedy's were a special family. JFK Jr. was my last great hope of a Kennedy leadership. A new era of Kennedy's. Sadly, I think it's over. Our camelot is gone.
Teddy wasn't a saint, but he devoted his life to public office. He took his licks and did it with grace. I'd never have thought he was capable, but surprise me, he did.
Birdee, good to see you as the early Birdee again today.
ReplyDeleteLynn, sorry you are so stressed by the latest reports. (((HUGS)))
DeeDee, BAM back at ya! I enjoyed your musings.
J/L & Zona, What a memory, watching John John saluting his father's coffin.
Bear, yes indeed...what if??
MEK, I hope you don't get too tired running your Mom to all those places.
Goldie, Yes, I too hope they all can rest in peace now.
Waving a wing to all the other Owls who swoop in later. Have a good day.
I did see Senator Kennedy's memorial and burial the next day. What struck me the most was how human and and humane he was. I really had not given him much thought over the years but was very enlightend watching the people come forward in his death.
ReplyDeleteI will now always remember that he fought his whole life for the American people and he was very aware of suffering and grieving and injustice. It hit me when they talked about his calling all 177 families in his state that lost a loved one on 9/11. He not only called them used his office to make sure they had counseling and support and then continued to call every year on the anniversary of these peoples death.
His stepping up and helping the family who lost their son in Iraq because he was not adequetly protected with body armor, nor was the humvee he was in. This family brought all of this to light and Ted Kennedy went into action. He fought to make sure every soldier was protected. He may not have voted to go to war but still had a deep and lasting respect for our soldiers who were there doing what their country asked of them.
The stories of helping to raise not only his children but John's and Bobby's too. Showing up for every birthday, graduation, wedding is possibly the most loving thing I can imagine.
He was silly with a zest for life and I was very moved when President Obama pointed out that Ted was from a generation who may have disagreed and sometimes very vigorously with the opposition but always remembered they were fellow Americans and Patriots first.
I keep thinking what would I have been like if I lost one brother to war, Two brothers to assasins bullets? I think I would have thrown in the towel and given up. But he kept going lived to help two of his children throught their own battles with cancer and to watch Johns son die to. He kept going through all of this mindful of his family. It speaks volumes to me that his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews obviously loved and respected him. To me that is the greatest legacy.
DeeDee LMAO @ maybe not Ethel! And yes, they sure have some big teeth!
ReplyDeleteLynnD I missed the funeral. Thank you for your comment. I didn't know that Ted called all those 911 victim's families and continued to do so. Very touching and admirable.
Shirley Are you watching? I hardly ever get that one.
ReplyDeleteCAROL...beautiful blog. I too remember as a child when JFK was assasinated, then RFK. And when John, Jr. was lost and the reports were coming in, I was glued to the tv. I prayed it wasn't so. I was in Chicago on business and couldn't even leave the hotel room so I could watch.
ReplyDeleteRegardless of one's politics, I think the Kennedy legacy should be one to remember forever. Yes, Joe was a bootlegger among other things, but he raised a family that was for the people. And they worked tirelessly for all of us...some sadly cut down in their prime. And yes, Teddy has a closet full of skeletons, but he also has a list of accomplishments, to better our lives that is endless.
May all the late Kennedy's rest in peace...and may the rest continue to live healthy and productive lives - - happily.
Lord poor Ethel! As far as the teeth I am sure their dentist is a wealthy man today.
ReplyDeleteOk just got home from running errands and having a major hot flash! I drive into the driveway and notice something odd by the street. I needed to check the mail before I opened our gate so I went to take a gander. Good Lord it is someones very used underwear!!!!!
I am waiting until Mr. Lynn D gets home he can dispose of them! Ewwwwwwwwww!

Good afternoon everyone. I am making a quick fly-by. I needed to get things done today. Too much time on Facebook lol!
ReplyDeleteWhen Kennedy was shot,I was in 9th grade Latin class (I know, I know, what a waste lol).
My teacher left the class room crying. It was a sad day for all.
I am not big on the "Camelot" thing, or "Queen" this or "Lord/Duke that, etc. The Kennedy's were an American Family,"our" American family. They have much to be proud of. I salute them all.
I miss John-John~
ReplyDeleteBirdee~ :)~
Popping in quickly then going to crash!
ReplyDeleteI know Mo what the hell undies in my driveway WTF? I guess that would explain some of the driving around here if people are removing their undergarments and flinging them out windows. Hmmmm I wonder if he had and extreme burrito accident?
