I saw a link on Rosie's site the other day, I had no idea what it was about, so daring me clicked on it, and wow was I surprised. Its a documentary about a woman who is a hoarder, she has collected so much stuff that she can't even move around in her house anymore, so she sleeps outside. The video below is part two of a part 6 series, if you have time you should watch all of them, it totally blew me away. I can't even imagine how the mind must work, when it thinks you need to save everything. After watching all of the videos, the only thing I could come up with is she was lonely, and by collecting all this stuff, somehow it comforted her.
Good Morning Everyone!!!
ReplyDeletenow I can go read!!! ;o)
ReplyDeleteBAM!! 3
ReplyDeleteCarol, I started watching this show about Hoarder's a few week's ago. I don't understand it all, but I feel so bad for these people.
ReplyDeleteWhen you see how they panic at the thought of getting rid all that stuff.....I think the worst one was the lady who couldn't throw away food. Stuff that had expired years ago...she thought was still good.
Morning! DeeDee
ReplyDeletebbl...the septic guy is here..
ReplyDeleteand....yes, Tina I'm still laughing my butt off! Thank's!
Good Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on 1st birdee and Bam #3 deedee.
Just dropping by to say Have a Wonderful Labor Day weekend everyone! We are leaving for 4 days- so talk to you all when I get back!
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on first early bird Birdee!
Bam DeeDee is 3!
Carol I have seen so many shows on hoarders. My deceased Mother-inlaw was borderline. She was raised during the depression and her parents were itenerant farm workers. She held on to everything because you just never knew! When we helped them move it was a monumental task.
I really don't understand their compulsion either especially the people who hoarde animals like cats and dogs. Most of the time they can barely feed them and don't take care of them at all.
I would almost say I was, but really my problem is not getting rid of stuff. Just having the energy and time to box it up and haul it away! Everytime I see something like this I realize I need to make time!
Goldie have fun!!!
ReplyDeleteYes everyone have a great Labor Day weekend! I almost forgot that was this weekend!
(eeeeeeeeee) Hear that? I think it is my brain cells dying off!
OMG! I know a hoarder! It is amazing! She has a beautiful home....from the outside. You would never dream whats going on inside.
ReplyDeleteI can't stand to go in anymore. I think it is a health hazard...apparently it isn't...she always looks like a million bucks.
It all started years ago when she married. She started assembling her home with the finest furnishings...china.. silver..crystal...everything money could buy...she spent money like there was no tomorrow...
At a point the house was completely furnished and done....then it became a little overdone...and then it was apparent that something was wrong....she kept buying more china...more furniture....more silver...more crystal...newer and better things she said..... names like Cartier..Waterford..Baccarat...Roche Bobois.....it was stunning to see...but not in the way she thought. Her friends were just stunned....and thinking...whats going on here??
Eventually her marriage ended....and her finances dwindled because of this behavior....she became depressed...talked about suicide......she didn't end her life....as a matter of fact she got better.....it looked like she would survive her loss of a husband and all that money.....
What I realize now is that she was a "high end" hoarder.....and sadly now....she is a still a hoarder....but what she hoards now wouldn't bring a dime on the open market. She just has a big house full of junk....it sort of reminds me of Grey Gardens...lol
We have tried everything short of bulldozing the place. Any clean up efforts that we have made have sent her from anger to hysterics.....
She called me a couple of weeks ago wanting to visit on Sunday...she wanted me to come to her house...which is unusual.....she has these two very old poodles....one has been missing for a week....she can't find her...but she thinks she may be dead.....she said there is a faint odor...YA THINK!!??
I offered once again to hire the necessary people and a dump truck to get that place clean and maybe even find FiFi.....
"Oh no...I can't throw away my things!!"
Well rest in peace FiFi....I'm sorry your mama is CRAZY.....but I am not risking hepatitis to look for you.....
She may be a hoarder, but TINA is a WHOREder...ijs!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOL@ 'weenie!
ReplyDeleteMy sister-in-law is one too. A few years ago, her house was getting out of control cluttered, so she hired one of those professionals to help her get rid of the, er, junk. Well, they succeeded in getting all the stuff boxed up and put in garbage bags and the like, and moved it all to their front yard. The next step was to have a yard sale and actually get rid of it all.
Guess what? To no one's great surprise, THAT NEVER HAPPENED! It's still all sitting there under tarps! LOL!
She, Jim, and their brother John are all going back to Ohio in October to deal with all of their Dad's stuff (he died in June), which he put in storage when he moved into his nursing home. I feel for Jim and John! LOL!
Happy Friday Owls.
ReplyDeleteCarol, I have seen some of these shows and I'm sure my sister falls into this category. She used to be a very neat housekeeper and little by little, her house started to look like a flea market. She wouldn't let anyone but me in her house because it was a mess with 'stuff' all over the place. Now she won't even let me in. The other day she asked me to bring something over to her house, but she said to just put it in a grocery bag and hang it on the door because she had a cold and didn't want to expose me to it. I haven't been in her house in about 5 years and she only lives a mile from me.
I made the mistake of telling her I was getting a bag of clothes ready to donate to one of those charities that come around to collect stuff. She almost had a heart attack and said not to get rid of anything before she looked through it. So she came over and got the bag. What she doesn't know is, I took more than half of the clothes out and still donated them. I would bet that she still has that bag exactly as it was when she took it.
BTW, she lives in a very small, one bedroom townhouse.
Birdee, up early looking for worms???
ReplyDeleteDeeDee, LOL @ high end hoarder
Goldie, have fun wherever you are going.
Lynn, like you, I need to find the time to gather up stuff and just get rid of it.
Mo, LOL @ WHORE-der.
Bear, Jim has a big job in front of him just convincing his sister to let go of the stuff. Good luck to him.
A big hello to all the other Owls and happy Labor Day weekend to everyone.
Good Morning Owls - I just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe Labour Day Weekend. We are just going out the door, leaving for the trout farm. I will be back Tuesday. Love, Tinka

Tinka - you swooped in while i was typing!! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi hooters!
ReplyDeleteBirdee, congrat on 1st today!
I don't personally know any horders, but I have met someone who I think could be called one.
I had gone to their house to do the husband's insurance exam (an older VERY WEALTHY Chinese man with a very young, blond wife).
I walked into this gorgeous home and was shocked to see....
DISNEY FIGURINES
allll over the place. Mostly Pluto stuff.
The china cabinets (with a big D on them) filled, every shelf, nook and cranny had figurines.
Now I'm sure this was not cheap stuff, but it looked so tacky all over the gorgeous home.
Apparently the wife was a "collector" but seemed to get carried away.
I've seen the shows on Animal Planet about animal horders. It is sad and shocking.
We have our hands full with 1 kitty and 1 birdee (hee hee) I can't imagine dozens.
We are not doing anything for the holiday weekend, except going somewhere for a bbq tomorrow afternoon.
Had our last "event" here this past Sunday, so our summer entertaining is officially over.
I haven't been able to keep up on the blogs so will try to catch up over the weekend.
I hope everyone has a nice weekend!
Barb: Hugs! Although I had LOL a couple of times in my post, this is not really a laughing matter. You must feel sad about your sister.
ReplyDeleteWhabby, I do feel sad about my sister and I have tried to talk to her about it. She knows she has a lot of stuff but she is VERY defensive about it and is not open to discussion, so I just let it go. Two years ago she bought a new china service for 12. The only thing I thought was that she will have clean dishes for a longer period of time before she has to wash them. She certainly is NOT going to use them for company.
ReplyDeleteHello, everyone.
ReplyDeleteCarol Very interesting topic today. I have seen documentaries on this subject and it is heartbreaking. They really need professional therapy to guide them in making decisions about each item to either, save it, donate it, or discard it. The important part is that the hoarder needs to be the one making the decisions, a family member or friend can't do it for them. What hell that must be to be so ashamed of letting anyone see what you're doing but unable to stop.
DeeDee That is soooo horrible to think of the little dog dying somewhere in that mess and the owner unable to find it. How unfair that the animals are forced to live like that. You'd think that that, alone, would make the woman realize that she needs help. Oh, remember in "Grey Gardens" how they were using the bathtub as a toilet? Eeeewwwww!!!!
ReplyDeleteBirdee~ CONGRATS ON FIRST!!!!! CAN YOU HEAR ME? I'M TRYING TO BE HEARD OVER THE LAUGHTER!!!! :)~
ReplyDeleteCarol~ I think you, DeeDee, and I went to Rosie's blog on the same day~ That video was unreal~ ...and so sad....I am a scrapbook supply hoarder.....and yes...i must admit....a whore-der too~ :)~
DeeDee~ I could use some china....Maybe I'll go look for FiFi~
Mo~ ur naughty~ :D
SacBarb~ Your story is so sad.....I don't know what I'd do if she were my sister~ Probably the same as you~ ...with a smack on the ass for good measure~
Tina I think FiFi can be found under that black cloud of circling flies......ijs
ReplyDeleteSacBarb It must be so difficult to see your sister like that. I wish there was an easy solution. (((HUGS)))
ReplyDeleteBear (((HUGS))) to Jim, too. Too bad he can't convince his sister to stay home from the trip to deal with their dad's things.
I know men can become hoarders, too, but I have a feeling it is most often women. I wonder if that's true.
ReplyDeleteBIRDEEE...1st again! Were you up all night laughing??? LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteTINA...I learned from you to be naughty!
SACBARB...It must be so hard to know what your sister is facing and not be able to help her.
My friends mom was a 2nd grade teacher for 40 years and when she died, we found bins and boxes and bags of schoolwork her pupils did for the 40 years she taught them. She also had those huge rubbermaid bins filled with recipes she cut out of newspapers, magazines, boxes and anywhere else she could find them. Then there were the bags of every greeting card she ever got in her 78 years. It was sad.
WHABBY...hugs to Jim. It's not easy.
You have to wonder what is missing in someones life that makes them hold on to things like that.
CAROL...how did things go with your aunt today?
ReplyDeleteThere is an interesting 20/20 on tonight...about the Amish.
ReplyDeleteBBL
Hello everyone, I will be back with comments. Darn hubby just called my name to help with the cookies..bbl
ReplyDeleteHi Everyone..
ReplyDeleteI did not read the comments, I will catch up on them tomorrow.. I had a very long day with my aunt, she is doing much better than she was. So I was happy for her.. I will be spending more time with her this weekend..
I am heading to bed, so I will c u all tomorrow..
Hi, Jennifer!
ReplyDelete'weenie: I think that's a very interesting question! It kind of makes you wonder at how much of the "hoarder" we all have in us, in the sense of how much stuff from our past we like to keep.
I've always been someone more interested in the future than the past, which translates into relatively few photos etc.
Congrats on first BIRDEE!!
ReplyDeleteDeeDee: LOL at High End Hoarder. Funny, but really sad too. :(
Carol: I was watching a little bit of this too, from Rosie's comments as well but I love Intervention shows anyways. Did you check out popthatzit.com? OMG< that was so gross. The images are seared in my brain forever and I literally gagged. Why, oh Why, oh Why, did I go and look?......
WHABBY...it's true that all the stuff must be filling a void. My friend is a lot like his mom. He saves everything. He has 2 bags of socks with holes...someday he will learn to darn them. No he won't. He has about 30 pairs of sunglasses. I can't even tell how many dvd's, books, cd's he has. He won't even sell his late mom's house and wears her wedding band on a chain around his neck. But I can count the number of friends he has on 1 hand. He just finished his rec room...for virtually no one to come over and enjoy it with. It is sad.
ReplyDeleteoh I love POPTHATZIT.COM!!!!!!
ReplyDeletehere is the link for THE BEST cyst on the back I have ever seen....look what one fan had to say....

ReplyDeleteMo~ Ur WAY older than me.....so I learned to be naughty from YOU!!!~ ijs~ (laughing...but ijs~)
Carol~ a big fat smack on the ass to you....and a hug~
Bebbi~ I thought the same thing when watching the zit vids....but then I re-watched them! What's wrong with me! (mo...don't answer that!)
Carol I'm so glad things went well with your aunt today.
ReplyDeleteDeeDee and Bebbi No thanks! Working at a veterinary hospital, I've seen enough puss filled abscesses, sometimes complete with maggots!
TINA...WAY older?????
ReplyDeleteOh yeah, I am.
JUST LIN...ummmmm, thanks for the visual! That should give me a nightmare or two!
ReplyDeleteJ/L~ uh...ya really are a joy kill~ I was trying not to smell the puss thru the computer...now i have pictures of maggots running thru my brain! THANKS A LOT!!!~
ReplyDeleteMo....YES....OLDER!!!~ WAY!!~ :D
TINA....bitch! You need to learn to respect your elders!
ReplyDeleteTina Oh, now I have a picture of maggots running through your brain, too! LOL
ReplyDeleteMO Sorry. Working at an animal hospital is not just about cute and cuddly, although there is that, too.
How did we get to this subject? Is it FiFi's fault? Oh, no...It's DeeDee's fault!
ReplyDelete48
ReplyDelete49
ReplyDelete50
ReplyDeleteYay! It was a maggot march!
ReplyDeleteIs the maggot march like the monster mash?
ReplyDeleteMO I don't think so. Maggots don't have feet.
ReplyDeletei am so gonna puke, J/L~
ReplyDeleteMo...you are the second person tonight to tell me to respect my elders....except the other person is older than my elders! :)~ (DeeDee!) :D
TINA..listen to DEE DEE. And you need some grooming, too!
ReplyDeleteDeeDee was working on it....until I called her really really really old~
ReplyDeleteTina You better be nice to DeeDee. There's no telling what she might stick in your mouth next time.
ReplyDeleteMO I think you once recommended Stouffer's Vegetarian Lasagna. I had one tonight and it was delicious!
ReplyDeleteThere were no maggots involved. LOL
