"Mom, where can I buy body paint?" My oldest asked me that after school one day. "Excuse Me?" was my reply. My mind went straight into the gutter, so I needed an explanation. It turns out that he and his friends wanted to paint themselves for the "big game" on Friday night. There are two Catholic High Schools in the valley. They were playing against each other and there is a big rivalry between the two. Our colors are red and gold and the other team is blue. (You'll need to know that later!) I suggested he try Michael's Arts and Crafts. All the boys were chipping in and he was in charge of buying the paint.
The night of the game, hubby and I got to the stadium early to make sure we got seats. We're old and we actually like to sit during the game, unlike our children. All three of our kids were arriving with friends and we didn't think we'd see much of them. Then, right after the kickoff, here comes my oldest and his friends. My jaw dropped. My kid looked like Napoleon Dynamite! They caused quite a stir and I grabbed my camera to take pictures and video of them. Look at this fine specimen!!!!!
During half time, kids from all the grade schools in the valley performed a dance and afterward, while we were waiting for the second half to start, I happened to look over at the end zone and there were the crazy boys with the school flag getting ready to storm the field. They ran all the way around the field getting cheers from both sides. I found out later from the kids that one person from each class wins the "most spirited" award. I forgot to ask if my kid or one of his friends won. They should have.
Later, my daughter found us and I asked her if she had seen her brother. She looked visibly upset. I thought she was embarrassed because of the way he looked. She looked at me and said, "Mom! He's wearing BLUE shorts!" OMG!!!! Out of everything he did to his body, she's upset because he was wearing the other school's colors. Those shorts, btw, were borrowed from his friend's little sister!
Here is the video I took of them. They didn't know at first that I was filming. They thought I was still taking pictures:
Yes.....I'm proud to say....."That's my boy!!!"

ReplyDeleteTINA: Congrats on FIRST!
Great blog TINA..oh I remember those high school football games! I was wondering why he was wearing blue shorts too. Your daughter was right..wearing the other team's colors, that's something you just don't do! I think it's great that they represented their school the way they did..I just wish you and Mr T would have done it too.. ;)

Oh fun.. I love kids.. especially when they paint themselves..
ReplyDeleteThis is what I miss most about my Italian Stallions being all grown up. They used to do fun things in school like this all time.. I miss going to their games, and cheering them on.. and of course watching them grow..
All tho, I gotta tell ya, they still do silly things.. Like Marshmellow's in the microwave :O)
Tina, take it all in, pics and vids, do many, they will be grown before ya know it, and instead of vids of painting themselves red, you will be taking vids of your grandchildren..
great blog!
Waving.. @ Tina, Bebbi, Zona, Lynn

ReplyDeleteArea 51, good to see ya, glad your farming is going well.. harvesting and plowing is sure hard work, so hard that my farm died, but then I think Lynnd saved it, I am not sure, cause I don't understand it that well.. but I will certainly send you a gift.. :O)
Good morning!!
ReplyDeleteI will have to watch the video a little later, I have to scoot to work.
Congrats on 1st Tina ~~~~~~~~~~ !!
I love... too! haha
Have a great day everyone!
Happy Thursday Owls.
ReplyDeleteYes, Tina, these are the memories that make a Mother proud!! Yet when a parent does something similar, the children are mortified! We have a similar situation between the two Catholic boys high schools here (one of them has since gone co-ed) and when, in my son's freshman year, my husband painted his face half red and half blue for the BIG GAME, my son was so embarrassed. We met at the stadium after work and he didn't tell me he was going to paint his face. All I could do was laugh. My hubby's philosophy was 'embarrass them before they can embarrass us.'
BTW, my son was on the JV team and my Hubby had Todd's 'away' jersey on, with our last name emblazoned on the back, so the whole world knew who's Dad that was. Also, we lost that game.
Hi, Barb, Bebbi, Lynn D, Zona, Carol, and Judy!
ReplyDeleteTina, what an exuberant and fun blog! Football 'tis a fine madness! And just wait until the kids hit college!
Good Morning Hooters!!
ReplyDeletetina~ I knew we couldn't keep you from being first for long.... lol
tina~ I so thought that your story was going to end up that it wasn't really body paint and they couldn't get it off!! LOL- Way to go kids on your school spirit!!!!
I remember when my kids did those things in school. Not to that extreme, but especially during play-offs for school sports. It was always a lot of fun for them and for us.
Today is Mr. Goldies big 5-0!!!! He is finally back to being my same age. Taking him to a fab dinner tonight (along with my Mom) and then we leave at 8 am to go to MN to see the grandkids!! Be back on Tuesday afternoon sometime.
Hope everyone has a good day- and weekend. Havent'decided if I am taking laptop or not yet.
25!!
ReplyDeleteTina, congrats on first again on your own blog. You're son is never going to live it down that he wore blue shorts to that game.
ReplyDeleteGood morning Bebbi, Lynn, Zona, Carol, EBJ, and all the other Owls.
Mo & J/L, thanks for the shout out in A51.
Carol, Better than gifts, let me be your neighbor. ♪♪♪♪ (in my best Mr. Rogers voice) LOL
I have men walking on my roof. They are here to do some repairs. I need to go outside to see if they are hunks. BRB
OK, two young hunks are repairing and I can hear the footsteps overhead. I guess they have to be young and with good balance to to be able to walk on the roof. Oh the images going through my head......
ReplyDeleteHello Goldie and happy birthday to the Mr. Have fun with the grandbabies.
ReplyDeleteHello Whabbear.
Happy 50th Birthday, Mr Goldie! Let's meet at the Lone Star for a drink! LOL!
ReplyDeleteBarb: Lusting after men is so wrong for a person in your position. You should be ashamed of yourself.
ReplyDeleteBTW, are you taking photos?
Tina, I could almost taste the school spirit in your vid! I just wish it would have been longer. It reminded me of my High school Homecomings and my sons football days. I just realized how much I missed them!
ReplyDeletebtw, I think it is time Eunice comes out of mourning and into school spirit colors!! ijs
SacBarb, watch out, you may find Whabbear on your roof, taking pictures lol!!
Howdy!LynnD,Zona, Bebbi,Goldie, Whabbear,Carol & EBJ~~~~
Carol: No coffee, diet coke! and I had 2 20 oz..but I think the energy comes from getting up at 6 am and getting on the elliptical for an hour. I just got back from lunch, did another hour on the elliptical. So I am rootin' tootin' ready to rumble! hehe ;)
ReplyDeleteTina: I agree, enjoy it all, it goes by way too fast. *sigh* and there is this big gap between kiddos and grand-kiddos for me right now.
Mary, LynnD, Zona, goldie, sacBarb, Whabby and EBJ..Hi!!
Whab- I will suggest it to him...LOL
ReplyDeleteTo say he is tolerent and accepting is an understatement, however I really Don't want to test him too far....LOL
I'll pass on the birthday wishes to him peeps- thanks!
Tina Isn't it against the by-laws to be first on your own blog? Shirley, would you please check on that?
ReplyDeleteCute blog. Brought back some great memories of my own regarding high school football games. We sure did have fun. It occurs to me that as adults, we don't have enough opportunity to just be goofy.
Carol Can we be goofy at the MWMAG?
Goldie Happy birthday wishes to Mr. Goldie!
SacBarb That was such a cute story about your hubby. :)
Bebbi I love how dedicated you are.
Waving at LynnD, Bear, Zona, EBJ, and Mary!!!
Happy birthday to Mr. Goldie!!!
ReplyDeleteGoldie I would love.to meet you when you come to SF... Do you know a date yet?
EBJ- we will be there March 1 to 4 coming from Vegas where we will be Feb 25 until March 1st. That was our 50th bday present (and tickets to the Nascar race) from our boys.
ReplyDeleteIf we can arrange it I would love to meet as many as possible!!
love the blog.....Tinas oldest gets his sense of humor from her....although I think he may be a little more bold.....lol
ReplyDeleteWere there repercussions for that young man showing off his "credentials??" lol....you know...the one with the "midas touch?"....if he were a year older I would say..."woof!"...
If the paint hadn't come off those boys would have loved it....after some of the things those kids have done to their hair in the name of sports with everything from a mohawk in reverse to Orthodox Jewish payot's......unintentionally...but nevertheless Tinas oldest looked like a Jewish boy going to Catholic school.......bet that threw the Mormons of SLC off.....lol
Oh how how I have wished I lived close enough to enjoy those kids because its not going to be long before they are off at college....
Guess I shoulda bought em one of the many times Tina tried to sell them to me.......
Goldie and EBJ and SacBarb and J/L: Yay! We aren't leaving for Palm Springs until after March 4th. Let's get together! :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Bebbi!
ReplyDeleteHey Goldie! We are usually in Vegas around that time. We have been given free vip tickets to the races many times, but only went once. We just aren't big racing fans.
ReplyDeleteI am multitasking. I have wedding reception to DJ this week end and have been preparing music files. They requested alternative music,, oh joy lol!
bbl
J/L: Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWhabby: Hi!!
TINA - Congrats on 1st!! And thanks for the laugh....priceless!! Leave it to little miss mini me to have a fit about the shorts!! It is homecoming week here, so there has been A LOT of very creative dressing up!!
ReplyDeleteGOLDIE - Happy 50th to your hunka hunka burnin' love!! Please say hi to Inge Binga for me and I hope you have a great weekend!! Please hug Brynn and Gavin for me. :O)
I hope everyone has a great night!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Mr. Goldie~!
ReplyDeleteMary- if you get VIP offers for next years race, I'll trade mine in...:)
ReplyDeleteWould be great if you were out there too and we could hook up.
JODI- LMAO at your singing to Mr. Goldie on the phone. And I will hug B & G for you!
We just got back from and awesome (and expensive-ouch)dinner with Inge Binge. It was worth it- and my surprise gift was a HUGE HIT!!!
Mr. Goldie has said for the last 28 years that someday he wanted to learn to play the guitar. So, for his 50th, I bought him a guitar and lessons. He was totally frigging happy and surprised with it. Cross that off the bucket list!!
Night Hooters- off to bed ;)
and up early to take off in the morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Goldie, that was an awesome gift! I am glad that it was such a great day. Hugs and sweet dreams!

ReplyDeleteHi Bebbi I'm watching Flash Forward on TV. Nice marching with the ants. LOL
ReplyDeleteHey J/L! Was Flash Forward any good? I guess it is that time of year when everyone's shows are back on. I took a break from the tellie tonight because I watched so much Dancing with the Stars and caught up on some of my recorded programs...
ReplyDeleteOh, Tina, how cute!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteBebbi Yes, it was very good.
ReplyDeleteAre the ants still here? Bebbi, I remember that song!
ReplyDeleteI am shutting down early tonight. I have been on the internet most of the day preparing for the wedding reception. I made a bunch of music files.I had to load music for "First dance",Daddy Daughter dance",Mother & Son dance, garter & bouquet toss, cake cutting, and of course the chicken dance,Y.M.C.A.,Electric slide, cha cha slide etc. I have to have enough music for 4 hrs. My eyes are cross eyed lol! I think I am done! We are booked most of Oct.& Nove. & NEW Year's Eve. I am sure we will find timw in there somewhere for a Vegas trip lol!
Godd night all z-z-z-z-z
good grief Charlie Brown, sorry for all the typ-os! Yup I am cross eyed!
ReplyDeletethank you everyone for your kind words and funny stories~ you had me laughing in between calls today~

Goldie~ happy b-day to the hubby~
Jodi~ thanks....all's well that came out well~ :D
oh...and Mary~ I had already changed my avatar after my last post this morning~ :D
ReplyDeleteBebbi: LOL! We used to sing a song to exactly the same tune in high school, but I don't think you'd want to have substituted it for the lyrics you sang to your kids.
ReplyDeleteOur high school version was the heartwarming ballad of "Three German Soldiers".
If anybody in the nest has ever heard of it, I'll eat my hat.
Or, you might check with hubbys!
Diane, Thanks for the harvesting and plowing, however I'm sure the Broncos shirts you planted won't grow in Raiders soil.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't ignoring you. I couldn't get my computer to type any messages or in the chat box. You have two messages on your phone, however.
Tina, We did take pics but I couldn't find them when I gathered the pics for Todd's scrapbook. Bad Mommy.
Good night Owls. Sweet dreams to you all.
Sweet dreams, HOoters!
