Yup, Spring and Summer have come and gone and now Fall is finally here. As promised, here is my opinion on Fall. They should have called it the dead season, because everything dies. The leaves, in all their splendid colors crumble up and die. The grass that you spent hours cutting and sweating over to make it look better than Bubba's (who has a ride on mower and you just have a push one) next door, turns brown and dies. The flowers in your perfect little garden (which by the way were much prettier than Mrs. Bubba's next door) all die. Yup, Fall is finally here!
Kids have finally gone back to school. The ones going away to college have taken a piece of your heart with them, as well as a good chunk of your wallet! All the store have taken the Back To School sales off and are now sneaking in Christnas stuff where ever they can. Putting Christmas candy in with the Halloween candy thinking we won't know the difference between a candy cane and and a pumpkin sucker. Don't eat the candy cane anyway, it's old stock and you'll never get the wrapper off. They put out all the old ugly Christmas cards and wrapping paper they couldn't sell last year, mark it down a bit, and expect us to buy it. Which of course we do, cause it's on sale and we can't pass up a bargain, right ladies? Yup, Fall is finally here!
Oh and let's not forget Halloween, the time when kids get to scare the crap out of people, assault them with rotten eggs, toilet paper their yard, soap up cars and windows and get away with it all. Plus they get candy for doing it! What about all the Halloween decorations you have to carry up from the basement or sort through in the garage. You know you want your house to be the scariest on the block. So what if Mr. and Mrs. Bubba next door had a real vampire last year, you have a welcome mat that says "Boo!" when you step on it. Life doesn't get any better. Yup, Fall is finally here!
Of course when you talk about Fall you can't help but talk about the weather. All those wonderful leaves to rake, including the ones Bubba has blown over into your yard with his handy dandy leaf blower. At night you freeze your ass off and during the day you sweat your ass off. What's up with that? Make your mind up Fall...do I wear long johns or a bikini? You refuse to turn the heat on until the last possible day, hoping for one last heatwave, but the kids can see their breath in the house and are wearing every piece of clothing they own and still freezing, so you agree to turn the heat on but, only to take the chill off. Yup, Fall is finally here!
One last thing...BAMBI RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!! Don't let those stupid humans, dressed in orange get you! RUN, RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!
Can't wait for Winter!
who's bambi?
ReplyDeleteShirley~ are you saving the hookers again? you're so nice~
ReplyDeleteokay...i have to finish blow drying my hair~ and off to work~
ReplyDeleteMorning Glories!
ReplyDeleteTina did you sign a non-compete for first contract with Carol? Come on fess up!
Shirley I loved this post! The last paragraph describes a peri-menopausal woman to a T. So from now on I am in the Autumn of my Life and will refer to it this way every time I have a hot flash and then am freezing shortly after.
Shhhhh I think I saw some Easter goodies on aisle 19! These things get earlier every freaking year.
Good morning, congrats on first Tina
ReplyDeleteLynn: LOL on the Easter goodies and yes, I am the same way on the freezing/sweating situation!!
ReplyDeleteOh and good morning too. (Lynn)
ReplyDeleteBuenos Dias Ladies!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how Kirk Cameron feels about fall.....JUST KIDDING!! LMAO!
My last husband passed away...well...perished in the fall. So its alway a particularity special part of the year for me....ahhhh....good times....
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the cool temperature...we are 2 games into football season here at Texas A&M....
I love fall...the Neiman Marcus Christmas book comes out...Halloween... Thanksgiving...and Christmas are coming....the republicans are all out busily gathering their nuts for the winter.....the robbery and murder rates go up at this time of year....suicide rates go up through the roof during the holidays......soon there will be drunk Santas staggering all over town and in the malls.....and WalMart!! As the WalMart stores get more and more crowded.....OMG....thats a sight-seeing trip in itself!!
And the screaming.. screeching children....little darlings....either mad cause Santa tried to cop a feel....or MaMa wouldn't let them put that $400 pair of sunglasses on lay-away for Christmas.....
Many people don't realize it but this will not be Holidays 2009....no...it will be Holidays 2010.....yeah...see...they got so far ahead of themselves last year with the decorations and promos that a lot of people didn't even notice Holidays 2009 back in July...its true....google it....
Yes I love the fall....its the beginning of so much.....did I mention that the divorce rate slacks off and then skyrockets in the new year?
I bet Kirk is grateful that God created Fall~ :)~
ReplyDeletegood morning lynnd and bebbi~
ReplyDeletewhats the matter Tina....not speaking to me??? Well why don't you just stick an ice pic in my eye!!!!
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY...awesome blog! I always thought Autumn was my favorite season, but not I am not to sure! I may decide I have NO favorite!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking about Bubba and Mrs. Bubba. Hmmm, maybe someone should offer to give them their Haloween costumes...Dress them as deer!! Kapow!
LYNN...I think of it as my own "private summers"!!
TINA...why are you working today??
DEE DEE...Como Esta?
The divorce rates slack at Christmas how sweet is that. Gives me a warm glow to think about it.
ReplyDeleteMo there is nothing private about hot flashes! Hence the name Hot FLASHES. It explains the millions of women stripping in the frozen food section of any grossry chain in America. So I think it is Summer in it's full glory for you!
ReplyDeleteDeeDee I know you are trying to lure me into your island paradise but I just can't do it. Maybe after I figure out this damn bjblitz freaking game!
ReplyDeleteI might consider the paradise game later if you provide a many Margarita's.
LYNN...full glory it is! I keep a fan on my desk and use it almost everyday - -even in the dead of winter! I freeze the crap out of the girl that sits next to me! Although, yesterday it was actually cold in the building and I didn't need to turn it on till about 4!
ReplyDeleteOMG! Yay! I LOVE Shirley's blogs about the seasons and life in general! You just KNOW she sits at home watching re-runs of Pollyana, Mary Poppins, and "It's a Wonderful Life"!!
ReplyDeleteShirley, you crack me up!
And Delores, you did too this morning! And Lynn D weighed in, and Tina, and 'weenie, and Bebbi... ahhh, the nest is good!
Bebbi: We're off to a birthday party in the North Bay this afternoon followed by some tennis. Should be fun!
Tina: I had loads to say about Kirk Cameron last night in A51. Far too much, probably! :)
ReplyDeletelol....i know bear~ I'm being nice here~
ReplyDeleteMo~ I'm working because we are shorthanded....and I get a day off in November so I can go on vacation with my hubby~
TINA...where are you and Hubby going in November??
ReplyDeleteWHABBY...I think Kirk should question lots of things...like how was Growing Pains such a huge hit!!
Tina Congrats on being first again. I think you should dress as Eunice for Halloween. That ought to scare the little buggers when you answer the door.
ReplyDeleteDeeDee LOL @ gathering their nuts!
Shirley What a fun blog. I love your wit and sarcasm. I like it that it's the season for more "comfort foods"; soups, stews, casseroles, etc.
Waving hello to LynnD, Bebbi, MO, and Bear.
Congrats on 1st Tina!
ReplyDeleteNo Bambi is not a hooker, but how did you find out I am trying to save hookers? Did SheShe, Cuddles or Candy talk to you?
Have fun at work!
JUST LIN...good morning, sunshine!
ReplyDeleteI love casseroles. ijs!
SHIRLEY...you crack me up! What's for lunch? Hmmm, maybe since you wrote the blog today, I will feed you. BBL with brunch!
Good morning/afternoon/evening/night to all owls everywhere including Tina, Lynn D, Bebbi, DeeDee, Maureen, Whabbear and Just Lin!
ReplyDeleteGlad you like the blog. I never thought of peri-menopause as I was writing it, but I guess there are similarities. Who knew? I forgot about the comfort food. Although I don't usually have a problem finding comfort food any time of the year!
lol!

ReplyDeleteThanks for brunch Maureen! I'll start with scrambled eggs & sausage & biscuits & pancakes & pumpkin soup and all the apple stuff and coffee please.
ReplyDeleteSHIRLEY...how are things going with your Mum?
ReplyDeleteI have to leave soon, so I trust someone will wash the serving trays, dishes and utensils?????
SHIRLEY: I don't think we have Fall here in Az..maybe up north, but not where I live. Our temps are still in the 100's..it's gonna be 107 on Monday...by Thursday tho we should have a low of 69...ahhhhh... ;)
ReplyDeleteMr Z has started taking out all of the Halloween decorations..it sure looks like the holidays are one their way! YAY!
Great blog today SHIRLEY, thank you!

DEEDEE: Not liking the ice pic in the eye image!
MO: Yummy..thanks for brunch!
Waving HI to LYNND, J/LIN, BEBBI and BEAR!
Wasn't able to get an appt yesterday w/ eye doctor but I have some old drops and a compress and they seem to be heloing!
Have a wonderful day everyone!
Happy Saturday Owls.
ReplyDeleteShirley, I love this blog. You have such a picturesque way of relating things. You really should write for a living.
DeeDee, so did you husband perish in the fall season of the year or the fall off the cliff after you pushed him? ija
Zona, I'm glad the drops seem to be heloing (whatever the hell that is)
Lynn, LOL @ seeing Easter goodies. Don't eat them though, they are probably stale.
Tina, maybe we should just make you the permanent 'first.' Hope it isn't too busy at work so you can tend your farms.
Mo, Thanks for the comment to Chad. He called me to tell me about it. Ssshhhh, I haven't been reading. And thanks for brunch.
J/L, LOL @ Eunice giving out Halloween candy.
Waving to all the other Owls. I hope you are all having a wonderful day.
Vicki~ you make me laugh~
ReplyDeleteGood thing we know who Chad's mother is......ijs.
ReplyDeleteTina Will you be including Farming on your resume?
ReplyDeleteJ/L~ one day missy....you'll see my farm....and oh will you be jealous~ :D
ReplyDeleteI just realized that my DIL logged on the google and it changed my ID. Sorry 'bout that.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I have an excuse - I am on heavy duty drugs for the gout in my big toe. It started on Thursday and I got almost no sleep Thursday night so I went to the doc early Friday because I had to collect kids at the airport at noonish. The doc gave indomethacin and it makes me dizzy(er). But it is finally managing the pain. I just realized that 'meth' is in the middle of that word. hmmmmmmm
ReplyDeleteI see I am rambling, so I think I'll take a nap. Sent the kids to the outdoor-in-100-degree-weather wedding without me.
OMG!! The owls are running amok again! I have spent the last several days pretending I have NOT had the flu. I couldn't seem to convince myself.
ReplyDeleteFall... Oh, what a joyful time of year here in SoCal. Fires, 100+ heat and memories of school starting. September is also the month I fondly remember getting grounded "for the rest of the year". Every year.
I am going to be an "auction girl" for Habitat for Humanities tonight. Girl? Ha! I don't know exactly what it is except some gal named Mercy got me involved so I figure it was meant to be.
I missed you all when I wasn't busy pissin' and moanin'!
Bonach Kudos to you for getting involved with Habitat for Humanity. What a great organization they are. Glad you are feeling better. When I lived in SoCal, I remember going back to school and it would be soooo hot that the backs of my legs would kind of stick to the seat. It was miserable! I still have family down there so I know it has not been pleasant lately.
ReplyDeleteSacBarb Sorry about your toe. Are you sure you didn't "accidentally" get it stuck in the bathtub faucet with hopes a hunky fireman would have to rescue you? ;)
ReplyDeleteTina Does your farm have a name? Tara, perhaps? LOL

ReplyDeleteShirley I do believe you got 25. Don't forget to mark that down.
ReplyDeleteJ/Lin; I probably should have done some research on this Habitat for Humanity thing. I feel like a bit of a hipocrit (I know Tina, you can spell it properly for me if you don't mind) but I think I'm doing something good to help others.
ReplyDeleteI don't like fall. Sorry, folks. Our leaves change from green to dead. Then they turn burnt when the fires come. I did try to celebrate fall by going to a maze made out of a 5 acre cornfield (a maize maze, get it?), and I got lost for 3 hours in that dumb ass forest.
I haven't done much today except a little housework. Oh, I shaved my legs. That's always noteworthy.
ReplyDeleteAmazing Race starts tomorrow night. So does Dexter. Two of my favorites. YAY!
MO How rude of me! I forgot to thank you for the lovely brunch. I helped myself to some tuna casserole and some hot apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream. Delicious!
ReplyDeleteVicki??? Vicki!!
ReplyDeleteI will have you know that my last husband met his Waterloo in the bath tub in a tragic electrical accident!
You see....he liked to enjoy a bagel during his bath but by the time the kitchen got it there it was always cold....so he put the toaster in the bathroom.....
I think you can fill in the blanks from here. Its just too hard for me to talk about....except to say.......
God I miss that toaster...sniff...sniff...
He was a gambler.... sometimes gone days at the time....then he'd show up.....smelling of cheap women and liquor....and he'd yell "Honey I'm Home!!!"
Well you're home now you freak!!!
Lynn.. I swear no contract exists.. unless she drugged me.. lol
ReplyDeleteMo.. I will take the tomato soup and sammie.. and the grapefruit, of course.. thxs..
Zona.. I sure hope your eye feels better soon
Sacbarb.. sorry about the gout, I have heard that is quite painful, hope u feel better soon..
Bonacci.. good to see u.. kudos for giving a helping hand..
J/L.. lol on shaving ur legs.. :O)
Whew.. I was busy today.. ran errands this morning.. got a pedi..and then went to my aunts for dinner.. got home a little while ago.. and then caught up on Project Runway.. I love the comcast on demand, when I miss some of my shows, I can catch up on the weekends..
ReplyDeleteIts chilly here in NJ.. I gotta get my Uggs out..
Shirley..
ReplyDeleteLoved ur take on fall.. LOL on College kids taking ur heart and ur wallet.. cracked me up! And the candy cane.. LOL.. old stock.. Adore your wit and humor.. Kudos..
And..
Run Bambi run.. LMAO..
Well, well, well...I see nobody cleaned the kitchen up. I have been trying to get dried up syrup out of the pitcher for hours.
ReplyDeleteDEE DEE...what a shame to lose a bagel toaster that way. Was it a wide slot one? For shame, for shame.
SACBARB / VICKIE!...I hope your toe is better soon. I hear gout is indeed quite painful. I do hope your son continues his blog. He is a great writer. I won't tell him you haven't been reading!!
CHI CHI...Habitat is a great charity. They do amazing work. I used to donate money to them a lot, when I had it. Did you get auctioned off? I once bought a date at a bachelor auction for the American Cancer Society. The guy was a dud! I lied...I did that twice! Both guys were duds!
JUST LIN...I am so glad you shaved your legs! It's weird, I used to have gorilla hairy legs, now I have about 5 hairs on each leg! I am NOT complaining!
CAROL...I felt terrible when I realized I let out your grapefruit! What color did yo have your toes painted?
My 10 year old cousin and I did a play for the family tonight! She wrote it and we were sisters named Bubbles and Twinkles! I asked her if it was a play about hookers! Thankfully, she didn't know what that meant!
Then another cousin that is in the early stages of either dementia or Alzheimers started telling us stories...that never happened. OMG, we were almost peeing in our pants!! It really is sad, but the stories were hilarious! I thought her daughter was going to fall off her chair...and husband was nearly choking from laughing. Poor Thelma didn't have a clue!
Hi everybody! My farms are tended, my Island Paradise is all looked after and my ten fish aquariums are cleaned and the fish are fed! Time for me to go to bed. Thanks everyone for your comments. Carol I'm glad it gave you a chuckle.
ReplyDeleteSacbarb I'm sorry about your toe. I hope it gets better soon.
Zona I hope your eye is better soon too.
Bonachichi how did the auction go?
Mo, mum is doing ok. Her pain meds were increased and that seems to have help with the pain. I am a bit worried about her mental state though. Thanks for asking.
Just Lin I will be watching Amazing Race. I like it better than Survivor, although I watch that too.
Carol how is your Aunt?
OK people I'm off to bed. It's 1:23 and I'm tired. Good night everyone!

Good night, Carol.
ReplyDeleteGood night, Shirley.
Well, I am done with the auction. Talk about not knowing what I'm getting myself into! I showed up looking for someone named Mary. I was taken to Steve. In the kitchen. I spent the next 5 hours hurling out food for 170 people. In a skirt and high heels.
ReplyDeleteOne of my tasks involved making appetizers consisting of creme fresh, goat cheese, crackers, smoked salmon and capers. Steve told me to taste it to make sure it was okay. Smoked salmon is pretty high on my list of Things I Will Not Eat, but I didn't want to make a fuss. Down the hatch! I am just thankful they didn't have me working on the escargot.
I never did see Mercy.
Bonach I only had smoked salmon once and I didn't like it. I would not have been able to tell if the appetizer tasted okay or not. Good for you for helping out, though.
ReplyDelete
