My Morning

by Iteach

Do you have a set morning routine? Are you a creature of habit like me and have to start your morning of a certain way every day? Is your morning hectic like mine or is it more leisurely? I often think of you guys in the morning as I drive to work and wonder how you start day off. Here is my mornings and they are pretty much set in stone.

I wake up at 5:30 without hitting the snooze button. We are cursed with only one bathroom, so I shower first. Then I make my cereal and go to the computer. I farm and read the news while munching on my cereal. Then I do the clothes, hair, and make-up routine.

At 6:45 the Mr. and I work at getting the children up. Only one likes to get up ready the other two take forever. Hubby makes their pancakes and waffles while I try to get their grumpiness away. Then Dean has time to help get one kid dressed and then he is off to work. I get the other two dressed and holler at them to brush their teeth. All backpacks are lined up at the door from the night before.

It is now 7:30 and the race starts. I have to take each kid to a different place. Philip is dropped off at his babysitter's house at 7:35. She takes him to school and picks him up. She is a wonderful elderly lady who loves Philip to pieces. Philip calls her grandma and she spoils him with marshmellows.

At about 7:45 I roll into Carolyn's babysitter's house. She doesn't like to be called a babysitter. She likes to be called a child educator. I still think she is a babysitter, but I just keep that in my head. She does a wonderful job with the group of 2-4 year olds that she watches.

Then at 7:52 I drop Matthew off at Grandma's house. Matthew goes to the special ed. preschool in the morning and the bus picks/drops him off at grandmas. When we searched for babysitters none of them wanted to mess with a bus. Grandma happily volunteered. In fact she wanted Carolyn too, but I declined. She is retired and I felt guilty about using all her time up with grandchildren. She has Matthew for half the day at that works out well. Matthew and Philip start school at the same exact time, so grandma couldn't watch Philip.

Finally, at 7:59 I roll into school. My contract states that I have to be there by 8:00, so it works out. Sometimes, I'm a few minutes late, but I always call the principal and tell him. He doesn't mind at all, because he knows I work late every night.

I'm very lucky that I live in a town that is easy to get to about everywhere in five minutes. So how does your morning roll?

  2. Jennifer, I remember those day's of getting the kid's to school and rushing off to work. Just memories as now my routine is waking up to an empty house now. Well, except for the dog's. Most day's I wake up about 7:30. The first thing I do is turn on the TV, because it's too quiet here, then I need to get my cawfee and give the dog's some attention. After that, it depend's on how my body feel's as to what I can accomplish for the day.
    Told ya....I'm pretty boring!! LOL

  7. Jennifer~ Loved ur blog~ I get up after my hubby tells me which alarm is going off.....if I can get away with it, I snooze! I'm like ur grumpy kids....don't like to get up~ I shower and fight the kids for hot water! My daughter is up first, followed by her twin. Getting my oldest up is a chore! Hubby wants to sleep in, but by that time, everyone is yelling~ I have a glass of water before leaving for work.....make my lunch, grab my stuff and I'm off! I don't eat until my first break at 9:30am.....always cheerios and water.....sometimes I sneak a DP~ :D

  10. Morning and congrats on 1st Headless Birdee!

    Morning Tina and Jennifer!

Great blog Jennifer! My morning usually starts about 9. It all depends on when I go to bed. I like to get 8 hours of sleep. I wake up, take pills, get breakfast (usually banana and Rice Krispies), play on computer, get dressed and go to mum's.

However today is mum's 70th birthday so my sister and I are taking her to a town an hour away for a little shopping (that's more for us than her) and a meal.

Have a good day everyone! Read ya later!

  13. Good Morning Hooters!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR MUM Shirley!!! Enjoy your day..

iteach, I am a get out of bed, shower, get dressed and go to work person. On the weekend, I am a lounge around in my pj's, play on the computer and move when I damn well feel like it. But I am not grouchy, I am always pleasant in the morning(or so I am told).

I surely remember the days of getting kids dressed and off in the morning, before work. I did it for 5 years with the first, then a year with the 2nd. After that I decided to stay home with them and run a licensed day care. So all I had to do was throw on sweats and watch other mothers scurry around like crazy people!

Hope everyone has a great day!!

  17. Morning Headless Birdee! Congrats. How are you going to eat the early worm without your head?

Jennifer, you have a busy morning! I salute your organized schedule! I have never been good at timely them. When I worked I was always running late. My girlfriend used to introduce me as her "late friend Mary" lol! Being retired has slowed me down a lot.
I usually stay up until 2 am and don't fall asleep until 3. I am rarely up before 9 or 10. I am not much of a breakfast eater, but I try to gag down some oatmeal and juice. I like Cheerios too Tina.
    I don't drink coffee.
I was happy when my contractor told me he wouldn't be here until 10:00 today! I had to get up early anyway, I am going to our monthly UAW Retirees lunch.I am leaving Mr Mary to babysit my workers lol! He best not make any non reversible decisions!

Waving at yah Tina & Shirley!!
    Happy Birthday your Mom Shirley!!

  26. Happy Wednesday Owls.

Jennifer, Reading your morning routine made me tired. I remember having to get 3 kids up and at 'em in the morning and I'm glad I had my Hubby here to help me.

My more hectic time started after work when I had to pick everyone up and get them all to 3 different places for sports or scouts or whatever activity was on for that day.

When I first retired, I would still get up at 5:30 until I finally made myself stay in bed until at least 6:30. Now, I easily stay in bed until 7:30 or 8:00. Then I get up and do whatever the heck I want and I love it. I figure I earned that right.

  28. Good Morning again everybody. Back from the doctor's with a sore arm from the flu shot. Actually it was already sore as I tripped last night and fell into the glass French doors leading into my living room. Thank God it didn't break. My arm was sore this morning so I had to decide whether to get my shot in my sore arm or end up with two sore arms. I opted for one very sore arm. ( I should delete this as it is so boring.)

Jennifer - I loved your blog. It brings back memories of trying to get three kids ready for Grandma's at six in the morning. We left the house at seven. Sometimes I felt like we were on a squirrel wheel. After a relaxing summer I would wonder how we would get back on that wheel again. Somehow we did and now my mornings are relaxed and easy. Retirement is fantastic.
Have a great day little owls everywhere.

  29. Birdee It seems you were in such a rush to get here first today that you forgot to PUT YOUR HEAD ON!!!! LOL

Iteach Great blog today! I was a single, working mom so mornings were always stressful. My daughter is like me and could just close her eyes and immediately be back to sleep. It always took a long time to get her up. Once she was up, though, she was good about getting ready. My son just dragged his feet through the whole process. Nowdays, I usually don't get up until 9 or even later. The first thing I do is take the birdfeeders down and hang them in the tree. I then turn on the computer while I take my pills and fix my first cup of coffee. When 10 a.m. rolls around, I turn on The View. Once I've finally got myself ready to be out in public, I usually take my book with me to the local coffee shop for breakfast/lunch. Sometimes I don't read at all because I'm busy visiting with other "regulars".

Tinka I just did that yesterday and sent Carol a blog about it.

Waving a wing at SacBarb, Carol, and Bear.

  30. Tina, Mary, Shirley, and Goldie Sorry! Waving a wing at you, too!!!! I def need another cup of coffee.

  31. Well, here I am sitting at the car dealer regarding a leak in my car-that it is brand new car. It is cold and snowing out too. Congrats on first Birdie.

I was a single parent when my kids were small and we were always in a rush. I used to tell the kids we had to hurry or I would get fired for being late. One time my little son asked me if "I got on fire that day.". Now that I'm retired I stay up late and sleep very late. It works out for us as now my husband teaches rom home and works all night and sleeps during thd day. It gives me farming time! :)

Hello to all of u. I was wondering what everyone has planned for a costume for our party next week. I am still planning on being a Bear from the Lone Star as soon as WABBY tells me what I would wear. I know one of u suggested I put lots of hair on my chest

TINK: I'm glad u weren't hurt more with your trip last night. Please be careful. Well, I have no more to type on this phone so everyone have a good afternoon

  32. JENNIFER - Great blog!! My mornings start off @ 2am when I get up. I make a pot of cawfee, sign in to the computer, and feed my computer addiction (lol!!), til it is time to hoist the girls, rinse well, spackle, and fluff n' puff for work. I clock in @ 4am most days. I've worked this schedule for the last 3 years. Thankfully my kids are VERY self sufficient. Actually it is my youngest that make sure that the other two are up and ready to go!!!

I hope everyone is having a good week. I just got my wind-up car back this afternoon. I'm happy to say that for just over 900 bucks, I'll be able to (SAFELY) keep it running for a few more years!!

Enjoying a beautiful 70 degree late fall afternoon here in WESconsin!!!

  47. My Morning: Depends on what day - I have to be to work by 8 a.m. and on Tues & Thurs I work out from 6-7, come home and shower and go to work. On Mon, Wed, Fri I get up at 7 to be to work at 8. Pretty simple. I have to get my slimfasts, crackers, and drinks together and that is it.

I remember the days of getting kids to three places. I don't miss that chaos but I do miss the kids.

Congrats on first - Headless birdee.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi Bebbi! Still taking all those steps?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Still snowing outside and very cold. I have turned up the heat and put my sweats on. It isn't very often that I am cold but today I am.

Sounds like everyone has a morning routine except me since I seldom see mornings! Guess that is why I am a "night owl" literally.

TINA: Did you bring any of those cute little crabs home with you for the boys to have as pets? I remember kids having those. I wonder where they found any around here...actually, I think you get them at the pet store.

I guess I will try and catch up on some of my shows for the next couple of days. MrD is going to a meeting in the mtns for an overnight so I won't have anyone asking me what we are going to do about dinner. I always disliked that question from my kids and still dislike it from my husband.

Hope all have a nice evening. BTW, I wasn't too happy with who was voted off DWTS last night..how about you other fans?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Hi everyone!! I'm soooooooo tired. I have a cold in the head. It is draining the spark right out of me.

I read all the comments and I so enjoyed them. I now can have a mental picture of Carol pooping in the morning. lol

Seriously, it was fun to read. :)

  51. dang that was good-- MARK THAT down Shirley, its been a long time

  52. Nighty night hooters... sleep well

    ReplyDelete
  53. Dianne I used to find it annoying when my husband would ask, "What are you having for dinner?" Being a smartass, I'd answer, "Same thing you're having." Actually, I was lucky since he liked to cook and made dinner more often than I did.

Iteach Sorry you're not feeling well. LOL @ Carol pooping.

    ReplyDelete
  54. JENNIFER: I don't have a set routine when the day begins..I'm not sure my day really even has a beginning..because I don't seem to actually lay down and go to sleep. I usually just take a couple of short naps during the day or evening. There are some weeks where Mr Z will work 4am to 4pm..then there are others when his schedule flips completely so he is working 4pm to 4am. I find it really hard to go to bed and get up at set times..my body clock is a complete mess. There are things I do every day..feed the dog, feed the hubby, wash clothes, do housework, visit neighbors, play on the computer..but one day I could be cooking dinner at 4am..the next at 2pm..it just depends on Mr Z's schedule. I always think how nice it would be to have a regular day..get up when the sun comes up..go to bed after the news...but after all these years of night shifts and swing shifts..I don't know if I'd be able to adjust to something that normal! ;)

Loved your blog JENNIFER..just reading it wore me out! :D

    Have a great evening guys!

hmmmm, I should be going to bed too!
There is a memorial service for my SIL Marcia at 10 am tomorrow.
Mr Mary has to stay to let the workers in. I was gone all day today so he had to "worker sit" lol!

Hey Goldie! Nice 69er, Was it nice all by yourself? ;-)

    Diane-in-snowy-cold-Denver,enjoy your cooking-less day!
Mr Mary never asks "what's for dinner". He just wants to eat lol!!
I hate having to come up with something different everyday. Sometimes I just ask him to make a food run, like pizza, burger or fish baskets. We go out to eat at least once a week.

Time to get to bed. Sweet dreams all.You too sweet lurkers :):):)
