~ Notes Left Behind ~

by Tina~in_ut

When I was little, I would go to my grandparent's house and they had this old clock that I just loved. One day I picked it up to get a closer look. I turned it around, and on the back was a piece of paper with my parent's name on it. I asked my grandmother why it was there. She said that she wanted my parents to have the clock when she and my grandfather were gone.

A few years ago, while at my parents house, I decided to write my name on pieces of paper and tape them to all the things I wanted when my parents are gone. After we had been home a few days, my mom called laughing. She knew I did it to make her laugh and it worked.

When I go to my parents house now, I leave post-it notes for my sister to find. I put one on her nightstand, in her glasses case, on her dashboard, in her bathroom.....just about anywhere.....so she finds them a few at a time. They say silly things like "I love you" (she hates that!) or "I know you miss me!" or "I'm prettier than you are!" She calls me laughing, too.

Nothing I have done comes close to comparing to what this little girl did. Take a look:

Here's some kleenex~

  2. Morning Everyone!

TINA: What a beautiful story. Elena gave her family a truly wonderful gift..a little bit of herself living on through her notes...just incredible.

I like how you are leaving notes for your sister and mom. My mom read a lot..and she would pass her books to me when she was finished. After she died I was thrilled and surprised to find that she had drawn little pictures and written me messages in the margins of some of the pages. I never know when I'm going to stumble across one of these little messages..but it makes me feel like she is right there with me when I do.

Loved the video today TINA..thank you.

  4. Tina..

This sure does pull on ones heart, actually it breaks it. So sad, so young. You just have to wonder at times. You got a murderer like Scott Peterson living his life (in jail) and he is allowed the gift of life, yet Elena was not.

Loved that she left notes for her family..

    Bonacci said it best..

"Oh. What a wise little girl. She lives on."

  10. Good Morning Hooters,

    congrats on 1st bona!!

The spirit of a child never ceases to amaze me. What a wonderful gift.
Mr. Goldie leaves me notes often. Under my coffee cup, next to my chair in the family room, etc. I have saved everyone one of them for all the years we have been together.

I hope everyone has a wonderful day. I am fighting some kind of bug, its raining and I am having a hot flash. I am thinking my day can only get better at this point!

    Good Morning Zonabaaaaaaaaaaaby and Carol.

  11. That story was so touching. We do the same around here. Little love/hate/rib-jab notes. Makes things interesting.

When my old man worked regular hours, I'd make his lunch with a little love note thrown in. One day he was being RUDE don't really remember what was said/done. He figured I was mad, no note. I hid the note between the slices of bread in the sandwich. It simply said F-you, love Lo! He took a bite and the note slid out. In front of his coworkers, he took it out of his mouth and read it. They had a good laugh. He later called to say sorry and tell me paybacks really are a B! LOL!

Waving a sleepy wing to Bonachichi, Zona, Carol, Goldie and all who come by later.

    Carol: You terrified me!

  13. **comes up the basement stairs and pushes the welding helmet back on her head**

    Congrats on 1st Bonachichi!

Good morning Zona, Carol, Goldie, No Newz and Whabbear!

Tina, what a wonderful and sad story for this family. Very touching. I love the idea of leaving notes for loved ones. I don't do it but I thinks it's great, especially between spouses.

    Ok back to work!

**pulls welding mask back in place and heads down into the basement**

    ReplyDelete
  14. Shirley, what are you welding? A coffin?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bonach Congrats on #1! You have to get up pretty darn early to beat this group.

Tina That really was a lovely story. How heartbreaking for the parents to lose their little girl at such a young age. She really was a "teacher". Thanks for including the Kleenex.

Zona See if you can get an extra piece of pumpkin pie for me. :)

Carol All you have to do is wiggle that disgusting tongue and I'd be out of here!

Goldie Uh, oh! I hope you aren't coming down with a bug but there sure are plenty of those around, lately.

NoNewz Loved your note story! LOL

Bear Are you dressing up for Halloween?

    Shirley Yikes!

  16. Good Morning - I will be back after my eyes clear from reading that beautiful tribute to a brave girl. One can't help but wonder "There but for the grace of God goes I". I will be back in a couple of hours. Lots to do to get ready for Halloween, like the pies for Zona. Take care everyone. Love, Tinka

  17. Bonach A welding mask would also protect one's face from blood spatter......ijs

  18. J/L: Nope! We're going to a party in the Castro, though, and I'm looking forward to it. Our friend Paul hosts it every year, and he makes the most delicious cosmopolitans! His version actually mixes the usual ingredients for a cosmo with champagne, and the result is... heavenly!

Lois: Thanks for making MY day on FB yesterday! You created a monster! LOL!

  19. Morning...can't believe that I am up already. I had a lunch and hair appt today but the snow is just too deep to be driving/walking in it. I am more scared to park and walk than I am to drive so I was able to reschedule everything for Monday. I was lucky my hair appt was able to reschedule with all her people not being able to come in this week. I guess that is another good part of being retired for me that I don't "have" to get out. I did my husband that I wouldn't mind going to get dinner tonight somewhere tho' as I am getting some cabin fever.

GOLDIE: I hope you aren't getting sick. My tummy has been giving me trouble for the last few days and getting chilled but no temp or anything and it comes and goes.

BEAR: You better remember that we have a party here all day tomorrow too before you go off to your other party. At least you can stay in costume all day. You do know mine, right?

TINA: What a touching video. It's amazing what children think of at such a young age. I can so picture you leaving notes that you are prettier than your sister!! Just think only two days until your birthday and then you are "pushing" 50 in my book.

Congratulations on 1 Bonachichi. You even beat ZONA AND LYNN. Friday you can always beat TINA as it is her sleep in day.

ZONA: Glad that dinner turned out for you. Did MRZ like it?

TINK: What are you going to be dressed as tomorrow for the party? You know it will also be a day that your "daughter" will be roaming around drinking jello shots, etc, etc. (you know the drill)

Good Morning to all of you early birds: BONACHICHI, J/L, ZONA, TINK, BEAR, CAROL,SHIRLEY,GOLDIE AND LOIS. Hope you all have a nice Friday and if any of you want to play in the snow....come on over!

  20. Happy day before Halloween Owls.

Tina, I didn't watch the video because I am out of Kleenex here. I saw this story on the Today Show and I used it all up then. Children are always drawing pictures, but for this little girl to hide them everywhere just amazed me. What a gift she left for her family. Did she intuitively know of her fate? Her parents said they didn't tell her.

When I was newly married I used to put little love notes in my Hubby's lunch, but at some point he quit taking lunch so the notes stopped.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Bonachichi, Congrats on #1 today.

I am rushing out to run errands because I goofed off all morning and now I am late. Waving a wing to all the Owls. BBL

    ReplyDelete
  22. Zona & Dianne; So, are you going to give that recipe up, or just keep teasing the hell out of the rest of us? If it's good, I wanna make it, too.

Dianne, for weather to shut part of CO down, it must be a flippin' blizzard. I'd have been dead by now. Hikers would find me in the spring thaw.

    ReplyDelete
  23. DIANNE: Mr Z loved dinner..he is such a picky eater, so the fact that he went back for seconds was huge! thanks again.. :)

SHIRLEY: What's all that clanking I hear..I'm getting afeared!

TINKA: I can smell that pumpkin pie already!

    J/LIN: You know I will! :)

GOLDIE: I have all the notes Mr Z sent me too..after 25 yrs..they sure add up don't they?

SACBARB: I can't imagine you goofing around all morning... ;)

    BONACHI: LOL!

BEAR: Oh man..I don't drink a lot..but I love champagne..it has gotten me into so much trouble in the past..

Mr Z will have to finish this Halloween stuff on his own..I'm packin' up and going to DIANNE's to play in the snow! On second thought..DI..can I bring Mr Z with me?? :D

  24. LL/NN: Sounds like the mister almost had to eat YOUR words..lol..

  26. Hey...long time listener, not first time caller!

    Happy Halloween, Owls!

I haven't been around much for the last few months as the Internet is crappy where I'm living, so often I have just enough of a signal to leave a message on Facebook and that's about it!. A lot of you are on there, so I keep up with the Owls there. It's very nice! Just a little reminder, most of you know here that I am not straight, but very few people know on Facebook (and a heck of alot of them are family). My status update right now lends itself to a comment being made about gay, striaght and all the spectrums of the rainbow, so I just thought while I had a relatively good signal I would come on here to say marhaba and thanks for keeping my secret in mind when you reply to my status updates (which I absolutely love when you guys comment!!!)

Hope life is exactly what you each want it to be right now!

    Miss y'all!
    Peace and popcorn balls!!!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Ok, so I need to proof read better. No I DID NOT DO MrD. I doubt I would remember how...j/s.

ZONA: You cannot come and visit with your husband because if I remember back a year or two...I remember when you two drove up in the Arizona mountain and stayed at a motel just to "do it" in the snow...so NO..l.not at my house!!!

    BONACHICHI: It is a blizzard.

TINA: Well, usually your aren't up that early. I guess I will wander into the shower at some point.

I have been farming and still see none of my neighbors online. Just when is it you all go on?

    ReplyDelete
  28. Tina, that's probably the first cherry you've seen in decades.

  29. Afternoon Glories!

    Congrats on first Bonachichi!

I spent most of the morning on the phone dealing with family members as we have had a death in the family. My Uncle that has been sick off and on this last year just passed away. The worst part of all of this is my Dad's family! The sisters are certifiable at the best of times but when there is a death or an illness they go bat shit crazy and just have to pick fights with everyone.

I am taking deep breaths and trying to stay out of it so I can cope with my Dad as this was the brother who was his best friend to.

Tina that story of this little girl is so touching and really hits home in light of what is going on here.

This afternoon has been doing food bank paper work and I am worn out! Need to eat and then get some rest. I am resisiting FB right now so that I do this. :)

  30. Tina Truer words were never spoken. :D

VIG I'm waving wildly at you. Do you see me? I'm not on FB so love seeing you here and miss you.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Lynn I'm so sorry for your family's loss. ((((HUGS))))
I think we all have "bat shit crazy" relatives to deal with.

Don't worry about FB, I'll send Festus over to your island to scare off anyone trying to steal from you!

    ReplyDelete
  32. LynnD; So sorry to hear of your uncle. Your dad's got pain he's probably dealing with, you are sweet to run interference for him.

One thing that always seems to happen when a family member passes is that people start to fight. I've come to realize the fighting is usually over the estate, and usually just a cover-up for pain. People are more comfortable showing an ugly side than showing a vulnerable side.

    ReplyDelete
  33. LYNND: I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll be praying for you and your family...especially that you are given the strength to get through whatever lies ahead. {{HUGS}}

    ReplyDelete
  34. DIANNE: Ok..I'll tell Mr Z..he was looking forward to having snowball fights in your front yard tho..

HI VIG! Happy Halloween to you too! :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. LynnD My condolences to you and your family.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Thank you everyone. I am fine with my Uncles passing. He is no longer in pain and suffering. He is also with his wife that passed about 4 years ago and I know he missed her like crazy.

My Aunts.... Here is a story to illustrate the level of sanity I am dealing with. When my Grandfather was still alive but very ill, the three of them decided he was not getting care at the hospital he was in that was up to their standards. They decided his wife my Step Grandmother was not listening to them and had no right to make all of the decisions. So they waited until she left to go to a hotel to nap and got him dressed and wheeled him right out of the hospital and had him admitted to another hospital without telling the rest of the family or the Step Grandmother. I swear on all that is holy this is true.

They were so lucky that my Step Grandmother never pressed kidnapping charges or they would be sitting in prison today.

Right now one Aunt who lives in AZ has decided because she was not here that no one really took care of my Uncle and if she had been here he would still be alive and she keeps repeating this to the rest of the family. Very Angry. God complex anyone?

Another Aunt is mad because she is convinced the other sister is taking everything over and making all of the plans just to piss her off. Ummmm my cousin, my Uncles son and my Dad made the plans yesterday. This Aunt is also mad because they did not put his obituary in the Seattle Times. I asked my Dad who did he know in Seattle? Response. No One. WTF?

They placed obituaries in 3 news papers here in WA, in the two towns where they grew up and in Grays Harbor where he has lived his whole adult life.

I am telling you I know this is just the warm up craziness for the big act to follow. I can feel it in my bones.

I've already told my Dad I am to old for this shit and if they try to turn the memorial into a free for all. For the first time in my life I will cut loose on them.

What part do they not understand that this is not about them?

Bonachichi there is nothing to fight over monetarily. He left his business to his son who has been running it for the last ten years and had a reverse mortgage on his house. After everything is paid there will be nothing to quibble over. He even set aside the money for his service and cremation.

Tho with this group, I know, will try to fight over his family pictures. That is always a hot fight with them.

    OY!

    ReplyDelete
  37. LynnD Wow! It sounds like they think that whoever causes the most drama must care the most, therefore must deserve the most sympathy. Yes, they do seem to think it is all about them. How sad! Btw, if I'd been the step-grandmother, they just might have been arrested. They had no legal rights at all in that situation. Sorry you have to put up with all this unnecessary chaos.

    ReplyDelete
  38. LynnD; With all due respect, your family sounds like a clown caravan. Try thinking of them with red noses and big shoes when things get to you.

I am telling you... money or no; they're going to fight. It's not because they're greedy (usually) or jerks (hopefully). It's because they hurt and are expressing it by picking everything apart.

When my first grannie passed, would you believe there was an argument over her false teeth? I mean, who would want those?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I've been meaning to ask.... Is everyone ready for JBJ's Circle?

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lynn..

Sorry about your loss.. It never fails, when someone passes, there are always ppl who will fight, its crazy, but I will tell you this, it happens alot. Many ppl blame the other, and the other, and the other, when they never look at themselves..

And OMG, they wheeled him right out of the hospital... OMG..

    Crazy!

    ReplyDelete
  41. LynnD~ I'm so happy for your Uncle...he's definitely in a better place...and with your Aunt~ As for the rest of your family....I'll be praying for you! People go ape shit nutz when someone dies...I so agree....IT'S NOT ABOUT THEM!!!! Why aren't they thinking about his son? duh!!~
