~ Twisted Black Friday ~

by Tina~in_ut

Black Friday is all about getting up at the butt-crack of dawn to get the best deals….for some people! For me, it usually means getting up about 12noon, leisurely showering, and maybe, just maybe, heading out at about 2pm. Hubby and I will shop some, eat, maybe see a movie, eat, and shop. The crowds aren’t as bad then and we get a lot done.

This year my mindset is different and I can’t figure out why. I have no idea what I want to get anyone, except for the hubby. On Tuesday, the Robert’s Crafts and Michael’s ads came to my house. They have turned me into a crazy person! (shut up, all of you!) Michael’s is open on Thanksgiving night from 5pm-9pm and they have Cricut cartridges on sale. Robert’s has them on sale on Friday morning from 6am-11am. Both stores have the new Gypsy on sale!!! Janice and I have been plotting our strategy. In between calls at work, we have our ads open on our desks trying to figure out what we “need” and where we’ll go first. Our “dream” scenario is for her to leave work and come to my house on Thursday (and tell her husband that she is still stuck at work!). We would need to be at Michael’s by 4:30pm. We’d bring my daughter with us cuz she’s tiny and can squeeze in between all the women jockeying for the good deals. There are two Robert’s by my house so Janice can spend the night (still telling hubby that she’s stuck at work!) and we can hit both stores in the morning!!! My hubby will just be told that Janice has left her husband and needs a place to stay….and I’m taking her to therapy! He doesn’t need to know it’s retail therapy!~

Realistically though, I’ll beg my hubby to let me out of the house on Thursday to go to Michael’s and I’ll text Janice to see if what I have found is what she wants cuz she has a long drive after work to go see her dad and can’t shop! I hate when the real world gets in the way of my fantasy life! Both of us are trying to figure out how to buy the Gypsy without our husband’s killing us.

So just when did the “can’t wait to buy stuff for my family” shopping season turn into the “to hell with everyone else, I’m buying for myself and you can all go to hell” shopping extravaganza? I used to love shopping for others or making things for family and friends. I have absolutely no desire to do so this season. I haven’t even started making my Christmas cards. I need to get into the holiday spirit. I've got to get out of my twisted Black Friday funk! Please help~

  1. I have NEVER gone shopping on Black Friday! I always worked, having been in retail most of my life. The only day I ever had off on Black Friday was when I was unemployed, so shopping wasn't an option. Now being out of retail, I still work on this day...where I need to head soon!!

TINA...have fun and don't run anyone over with your cart!!

    Off to work for me

Good morning, Tina-it'sallaboutme goscrewyourselfifyouthink you'regettingapresentfromme in UT.

Mo, last minute my old man says, I need you to come to Missouri with us. He doesn't need anything ever. So I said, 13 hours min. drive for turkey and a 15 hour visit max?! Being as sweet as any man is capable of being he said, "It be worth it just to be with you."

Just when you think you're married to a douchrocket...they gotta go and be nice. :)

P.S. sorry I had to delete the comment to break up Tina's middle name, Blogger didn't like that selfish behavior.

  5. Thanks for the Birthday wishes! I am sorry I didn't make it in yesterday. I was busy cooking all day.

    Shirley, congrats on first.

  6. I've never dealt with Black Friday. The crowds of people would annoy me too much. I am not enthused this year, either. I have no idea what to get anyone and it seems like its all been done before, at this point.

  7. I'm going back to bed for a while. Hope you all have a good day, whatever you're doing.

Thanks for the blog, Tina. Good luck today.

  8. Thanks for all the birthday wishes from Area 51~! I am really sorry I didn't come by yesterday. I intended to but after cleaning up all the mess I sat down and the next thing I knew, I was waking myself up SNORING! haha.

Tina: I am grateful for you because you are all "wild and crazy" and it reminds me to be more that way. It is nice to have friends that inspire you to be more well rounded.

Shirley: I am grateful for you because you always cook breakfast here and you keep the statistics. Also, you have a wonderful sense of humor and have made me laugh many times.

Mary: I appreciate you because you seem to have it so together.

J/L: I appreciate you because you take the time to bold the names everytime and I will just never be able to do that! Also, I enjoyed talking to you on the phone too.

Carol: I am thankful for you because you "run the place" and keep things interesting even when it is not so easy to be interesting! AND, you provide this cool place where we can hang out and cut up. Thanks for keeping it running.

Bonochichi: I am thankful for you because you have reached out several times when I have "gone missing" and your humorous like no one I have ever met. Also, because we have mafia wars and we love our mafia wars, even if Zynga poops out sometimes..! Gotta love those Blackmail Photos and Illegal transaction records.

Lois: I am thankful for you because you are such a good writer and have so many cool stories to tell about your family and life. :) Also, we keep running into each other around the Rosie circuit..hehe.

Whabby: I am thankful for you because you inspire my mind to grow even though it is reluctant to do so! Also, you have such passion in the things you love and believe in and that is a wonderful trait.

Joey: I miss you! I hope you stop by sometime for a visit! Especially sometime when I am around too. Between the two of us and our disappearing acts, we never meet up on here..haha.

I am going to post this so I don't lose it...more to come. Hope everyone's Thanksgiving was great!

  9. Mo: I am thankful to you for your sense of humor about pigs and bacon. I am not sure where that started but would love to hear the story.

Dianne in Denver: I am thankful for you because you always love your Broncos and it reminds me when I watched sports more. Also, your love of your family inspires me too.

Sacbarb: You also inspire me with your love of your family. I am thankful for you because of your loving attitude and kindnesses!

LynnD: Another one that I am thankful for because of your loving attitude and helpfulness.

If I missed anyone, I apologize. I didn't mean to. I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

As for Black Friday, I do not go and participate because it is silly to rush out and spend a bunch of money trying to get a "good deal"..not worth it, for me.

I am going to go and spend an hour with Jim. Hope everyone has a great day!

  10. Morning Glories!

Shirley you Ho! You got first! LOL

Tina I have done one black Friday and that was enough! It was when the kids were little and I had to get that next greatest game player crap! After that outing I said never, never again.

Like you I am just not feeling it this year. Have not made my list. Just keep looking at my house and thinking I need to clean if I am going to drag out the damn tree. I look around me and keep thinking what is the point? The dogs don't care.

I think I will be doing more of my shopping online and have it shipped. That's if I remember to sit down and do it.

Don't care what I get. I need big ticket items this year and that is so not in my budget.

Oh and the xmas music is already driving me crazy. Bah Humbug!

Bebbi I hope you had some birthday celebrating inbetween cooking!

    ReplyDelete
  11. PS I think it should be called black and blue Friday seems more appropriate to me.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bebbi, I just have to acknowledge your touching tribute to the nest. I am not surprised, knowing the sort of person you are.

As for Black Fridy, we've had some excitment at a local Walmart. I've never actually been to a Walmart, don't know where one is near home. The news tells me though, that there is indeed one nearby and 7 police units in riot gear were caled out because customers were fighting over televisions. Riot gear? What, were the Seniors using their canes as pea shooters? Crashing into each other with their scooters?

I might be crazy, but I'm not that crazy.

    ReplyDelete
  13. I see the "caled" mistake. It was under one of those lines on my laptop. I definitely need to get a new laptop. Maybe I'll grab Mum's old cane and hit Best Buy.

  14. Good Morning Hooters!

    Way to go Shirley!

Black Friday? I assumed you were not talking about the stock market this morning after the Dubai statement sent the markets reeling in Europe yesterday.

Shopping on Black Friday? I would rather cut off my left arm. I am done shopping (except one nephew who is going to get NADDA if he doesn't come up with some ideas).

Years ago I promised myself never to do it again, not like I ever got up at and waited in line at 4:00am like my sil- but never to go in the morning.

Last night my nephew asked if I would go to a certain store and get him some speakers for his computer that were on sale. WHAT?? ME?? BLACK FRIDAY???

I caved and went. At least it wasn't near the Mall (Jodi- you are nuts!)

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEBBI!

Hope everyone has a great day. I intend to putz around the house, walk the dog and meet Jodi for lunch. Waving a wing at you all!!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bonachichi: It cuts me to the quick to hear you have never been to a Walmart. I would not be able to live and breath without my Walmart nearby. I told Mr. Bebbi when we retire, all I need is a Walmart near and I could live anywhere. Whenever we travel, we make a point of stopping at exits with Walmart. Mr. Bebbi is the same way. hehe...so, how funny you have never been to one. I can't even imagine it! hehe

Goldie: Thank you for the birthday wishes! I missed you on my tribute and I didn't mean to! Thank you for always reminding me of my Aunt Goldie who lived in California that was my Grandmother's sister. I never got to meet her but heard lots about her. I hope your Thanksgiving was awesome. Your love of family and life is inspiring to me. It is obvious especially going to a store on Black Friday, fighting the crowds for your nephew. I wish my family were close enough that I could do that.

Okay, I have not gone to see Jim yet. Shame on me, I am being really lazy today!

Going now..good morning all, before it turns afternoon!

    ReplyDelete
  16. oh, I never get that one.

Also, I did forget someone else in my being thankful for people on the nest. Actually, the most important person of all:

TINKATIA!~ Thank you for helping me get here and thank you for your sweetness which always comes through. Thank you for sharing your grandbabies and doggies with us. I worry about you and hope that you know I appreciate you so much.

Vig: Thank you for being so courageous to go to such a far away place and do what you are doing. That is so awesome and so brave!

Okay...really, I do need to go and see Jim!

So Tina...NO I WON'T BE SHOPPING TODAY! LOL!!!!!!

  18. Good morning, Owls!

Tina, I'm right there with J/L and 'weenie: I've never shopped on Black Friday. I hate shopping! Bores me to tears!

Bebbi: Very happy birthday wishes, and thank you so much for the kind words!

It's beginning to cool down here in Palm Springs; high of "only" 74 today and 64 tomorrow. Yikes! But Jim and I had a nice ham dinner last night, just the two of us. Hope you all had a great turkey day!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey there, Whab. I thought you'd been sucked in by some sand or something.

Bebbi, I don't like shopping in general. I avoid it. I came to despise it when, about this time last year, some fool ran me over with about 15 shopping carts at Target. I am not making this up. Target has admitted liability and the case is currently in litigation. It would take an elephant tranquilizer to get me into any store today.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And now I must go off topic because I feel this is an important subject.

My glasses are broken. That little screw came out, so I've got just one earpiece. I can't see up close well at all, so I need the glasses in order to see what I'm fixing. But it's the glasses themselves that need the fixing. How am I supposed to fix the glasses without any glasses?

    ReplyDelete
  21. Good Morning!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I did things a little different this year..stayed up late the night before to get some of the cooking done instead of rushing all day on Thursday. Well..didn't work..I slept too late on Thanksgiving day and ended up running around like a crazy person anyway. I'll find a way to manage that holiday yet.. ;)

DIANNE: Yeowch! I had no idea the depth of your passion for Gingerbread pancakes..I think it might even rival your love for the Broncos! ;)

    TINA: I think you're a sweet lady too! :)

BARB & MO: From what I understand..there's enough Jon to go around..ijs.. ;)

BEBBI: Happy Happy Birthday to yoouuuuu...Happy Happy Birthday to yoouuuuu..Happy Birthday dear BEBBI...Happy Happy Birthday to Youuuuuu! I'm sorry I missed it yesterday..I hope you had a good one..and ask anyone..you're lucky this comment doesn't have sound! :D

MO: Omg..I overdosed on Monkey bread..it was so damn good!

    Ok..off to read the blog!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm your opposite right now, Tina and I think it was based on all what happended last year.

Last year I stressed about every penny we spendt. It was hard.....

Now this year we can unloosen the belt by a notch and it makes shopping a little bit more fun.

I was up at the crack of dawn today getting great deals.

It was a total rush and I loved it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. TINA: I saw the Cricut cartridges and started smiling before I even read a word..you had me at the picture! I loved you 'fantasy' shopping day. I hope you get your Gypsy for reals. I don't shop on Black Friday..unless it's in the early evening. We'll probably go out tomorrow..first stop Michaels!

SHIRLEY: Congrats on FIRST! Mr Z is venturing out to get the Star Trek movie..it's on sale everywhere this morning. I loved the movie..only..did you notice McCoy's eyes? He was my favorite on the show..so it's the first thing I saw...lol..

MO: I worked every Black Friday when I was in retail too..the place just spins! btw..my name is Zona..and I am now a Monkey bread addict..so is my husband..my sister..the neighbors...my cousin.. ;)

    LL/NN: You're an awesome writer..it's a pleasure!

J/LIN: My family has kind of made a pact to buy giftcards this year..just to make shopping easier..but I don't think I'm gonna hold to it..I like finding just the right thing for each person and seeing them open it.

LYNN: I didn't think I would be able to get into Christmas this year either..I've had some confusing and sad days lately..but once the tree was up..and the lights were sparkling..I felt better..give it a try. {{hugs}} :)

BONACHI: We have three Walmarts within 3 miles of us..we're on Walmart overload..I wouldn't go near any of them today..for anything..they're crazy busy when there ISN'T a holiday..

GOLDIE: Mr Z and I went to Best Buy one Black Friday years ago..that was enough..never again..

MARY: Have fun in Vegas..well that was a silly statement..of course you will! Win lots! Oh..we might get rain here this weekend..don't know about Nevada..

BEAR: Ve vaited and vaited for you and Jim yesterday..vhere vere you dahlink?..that was my best great grandmother voice btw.. ;)

    Have a great day everyone!

  29. Hellooooo!!

I am trying to be cheerful....I have...just an hour ago.....threw my back out on a ham....."oh let me take that"..!!!! what was I thinking trying to carry a tray with a 790lb ham on it!!??

this stuff hurts.....I haven't felt this kind of pain since I got stuck in window of that little Injun dwelling at Mesa Verde.....this is much worse than when I sat on that pointy salt shaker while wearing my swimsuit in Acapulco......but its not nearly as embarrassing.....

Hope you all had a nice thanksgiving....I got carbonated diarrhea...you know like when the fountain drink is running out of coke or pepsi and it sputters and splatters all over the place...yeah...thats it!

Well I have to lie down and see if I can get this back to stop hurting before Christmas.....

  30. A QUESTION FOR ALL YOU MOTHERS

Could someone please explain to me how a mother can be so obviously more caring to one child than another, especially infront of other people. Please someone. I just don't understand and it hurts and I want to understand. You can email me ptivately if you want. Thanks.

  31. Happy Black Friday Owls.

Tina, I didn't even consider going to Michael's to fight the crowd. It's crowded when there aren't big sales, so I just know yesterday and today would be a zoo. You know how those crafty people can get when there is a sale and I don't have the energy for a hair pulling tug-of-war. I hope you were successful in getting your carts.

I haven't been able to get into the holiday spirit either this year. I just started my Christmas cards today and I changed from what I originally planned to a much simpler one. I gave serious thought to not even sending cards.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Shirley, congrats on #1. I'm sorry you are in pain and I don't have an explanation for you. No one deserves to be mistreated, especially by a parent. (((HUGS))) Just know that we love and appreciate you.

NN,awwwww isn't it nice when the hubbies do something sappy.

Bona, looks like you are going to have to let someone else fix your glasses for you unless you can strap a magnifying glass to your head.

Mary, win lots in Vegas. You will only be one state over from CA. Why not pop over here before you head home?

Zona, You had such a good plan. But as they say "the best LAID plans..." hmmmm, maybe that was the problem...

Waving to all the other Owls. I hope everyone that ventured out today is safe.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Shut up Bonachichi~ :)~

DeeDee~ I had the same diarrhea~ I hated seeing my turkey that way~

Shirley~ In answer to your question...I often tell all my kids that my oldest is my favorite....in some way he is...he's my first...at my parents' anniversary dinner...we asked my mom who her favorite kid is and my sis and I pointed to my older brother....and he laughed~ I love all my kids....but I love them differently~ My MIL on the other hand....omg....I knew for years that she just didn't treat my daughter very well....and one day I was talking to my SIL (her daughter) and she made some comment that her mother didn't like my daughter! At least I wasn't making up things in my head....but now my daughter is old enough to see it and it breaks my heart~ I've mixed it up a bit at my house now.....if I give one kid something and not the others, I tell the other kids that THAT kid is my favorite (today!) When I do it in front of my family, they hit me and yell at me...if it's something you see going on, hit them and yell~ Couldn't hurt...maybe they don't even realize it~ (and then spoil the other kid rotten!) :D

  34. Hello Everyone..

    Shirley.. Congrats on 1

    ReplyDelete
  35. Bonach. -- when that happened with my old glasses, I took them back to where I got them and they fixed it at no charge.

Shirley -- I'm sorry that I have no good answer for you. I have two kids and I always tried very hard to treat them equally.

  36. Tina...

I don't do Black Friday, don't go near one store.. I did it once two years ago and swore I would never do it again... Total madness..

I loved your fantasy Black Friday, sounded so fun.. I to hate when real life gets in the way..

I am not in the Christmas Spirit either, I am just not in the mood. I am hoping in a couple of weeks I will get out of this funk and get my butt in gear.. When I do I will let you know, and then help you get your butt in gear!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Shirley,

Even tho I am not a mother, my thoughts are clear. I truly believe your mum loves all her children the same. I think she just might feel more at ease with one than other.

    Example..

My mom and dad love my brother just as much as they love me, however, my parents can easily talk with me than my brother. If there is a issue I am the one they call. Perhaps my brother feels left out or loved less, I am not sure, but the truth is my parents love him just the same as I.

Relationships are different with all siblings and parents. I do believe that is ok, cause everyone is different. Some express them selves more, so the parent might feel more comfortable with that sibling.

Don't think you are loved any less then your other siblings. Its just different.

If you have a open relationship with your mum, you should tell her how you feel, express to her how hurtful it is.

The love of a parent to a child is
unconditional. It is just not shown at times.

Chin up.. Back Straight.. and look ahead.. cause we have a Christmas Party to plan.. :O)

  43. SHIRLEY...Not being a mom, I don't have an answer for you. But being a daughter I can offer some sort of reasoning. As Carol said, I am sure your mum loves you and appreciates all you have done for her. I think that maybe, because you do so much for her, she feels that you know she loves you...or why else would you do so much for her. However, maybe because your siblings don't do as much for her, she is trying harder to make them understand that she loves them...and you...the same.

I don't know if that makes sense or not. I know that it has to hurt and I am so sorry you are hurting so badly.

We love you here...more then your siblings!! Seriously, we do love you and want you to be happy.

  45. Hey, I just noticed I got the quote of the day- Thanks for nominating me Shirley :)

Shirley, I am so sorry that you are feeling that kind of pain. As the Mother of 2 I find things that I like more about one child then another, and vice versa. BUT- I never have or could love either one more or less than the other. I Can't even comprehend that in my little pee brain-so I have no answer for you.

However that said, I know someone who had the same problem. Years ago it was explained to that person by her Dad that the Mother felt guilt. That the one she treated so much better was the one that she felt was inferior, couldn't 'buck up' the same way and had issues that needed to be coddled- so to speak. So maybe in this case it is that you are the better, stonger, tougher person, an that the love is not more for the other child, just that the other child needs more reinforcement in the Mother's eyes.

((Hugs to you)) and know that this is not about you- it is about her. Forgive her.

    xxoo

  47. Hello everyone! We just got back from Iowa and did more x-mas shopping. Hubby and I had fun and the kids are at grandma's for the night!

Oh, Shirley..........my mom and sister are best friends. Always have been and probably always will....I have always been the third wheel and probably always will be.......

After therapy I have learned to understand it. I know that my mom loves me and she always will and I will always love her.....

I recognize a lot of the controlling things that her and my sister do and now just shrug my shoulders...it use to be very painful.

I don't think I helped, but I just wanted you to know you are not alone.

    Love,
    Jennifer

  51. CAROL...I think it just a testament to the power of this blog you give us everyday.

Most of us have never met in person and maybe never will, but we have a bond between us. We care about each other. We don't want any of us to hurt and when one does, we all do.

If you didn't create this blog, we may have all gone our separate ways and we would not have the support and strength of each other.

    THANK YOU, CAROL

Yes perhaps, but everyone here has stuck with it, thru good and bad which is a true testament of the very beginning, and a commitment we made to each other. I am glad most have stayed, and the ones that have left us, I miss, but understand that the blog perhaps took a different turn for them. I think of them all very often. But am grateful for the ones who stick with it and provide us daily with blogs, support, comfort, friendship!

  57. Mo,

I don't know, I guess perhaps it runs its course. Sometimes I think it might be me, as I cannot answer everyones comment on a daily basis, or I might leave someone out, or even my political views.. If that is the case it is surely unintentional (well not my political views) I try very hard to be partial and keep things even.

    Tina..

did you send Shirley the e-mail yet, the bi-laws also state that it must me within a 1/2 hr of sending me one..

  59. I just got back from a client, so I missed all the fun... First, I've been rolling a blog around in my head about the nest. What it's meant to me since finding it. More to follow.

Shirley, I often mention my dad here. He rides my arse like nobody else. Nothing I ever do is good enough. He accepts my brother. He admires my sister. He tells me I do everything wrong. He has never, and I mean NEVER told me he loves me. But I know he does. He is hard on me because he knows I'll take care of business if and when he can't. He knows I'll take his criticism to heart and evaluate my actions. It's just his way. I think it's your mum's way as well. Anybody can say the words, "I love you". It's another matter altogether to show it.

  60. I need to clarify "well not my political views" I meant..

I cannot change my political views, because this is who I am, but when I mention them perhaps I hurt some..

    End of clarification!

  63. I have often thought about it to Mo and I always parellel it to my own life.

I think of all the amazing people who have entered my life briefly for whatever reason (church, school, parent group.....) and then move on........

It is like the circle of life.

  72. And here I thought everyone was asleep. Against all odds, I entered a store today. I have a new client which sells books, among other things. They've retail outlets all over. I am finessing a search engine for them and wear an ID badge when I'm on the premises. I have never in my life worked in retail.

I played at being a cashier, information person and shelf-stacker. All I can say is, that is some hard f-ing work!! I never work that hard! I have a new respect for people who service the public. I will never be rude to anyone in a store or over the phone again.
