Out to Lunch…Literally

By Lois Lane AKA Nonewz

One cold fall afternoon, a few little owls flew from the nest. They gathered in a small town in Illinois to share lunch and laughter.

Jennifer Squared, (also known as, Iteach Jennifer and The Other Jennifer) Jodi and Lois accompanied by their 15-year-old daughters Lane 2 and Samtastic, sat at a table in the center of an Italian restaurant.

It was my first meeting of them, although the Jennifer's are practically my neighbors. It’s funny how the internet can bring people together. When you’re an adult, it’s hard to make new friends. Sure you have your work people, neighbors, kids’ friends’ parents who become your friends basically by default, and people you run into around town, but when is the last time you made a real new friend outside of the internet? I can’t even remember.

Iteach was the last to arrive. Lane 2, pointing randomly, excitedly said, “Oh there she is!” The Other Jennifer and Jodi turned to look, until I said, “Yeah, only you don’t even know what Miss Jennifer looks like!” Who knows where she gets her little prankster ways?

The Other Jennifer, not to be confused with The Other Sister (who was equally lovable but not nearly as bright) gave me a tiny scare right off the bat. The waitress approached our table to take our drink order. When she uttered the words, “I’ll have a Chianti.” I looked at my new friend and said, “If you order fava beans as your main course, I’m outta here!” With a slithery sound of their tongues, mother and daughter, Jodi and Sam gave the infamous Silence of the Lambs sound effect. Perfect comedic timing!

We talked about our jobs, kids, The Nest, The Hooters, schools, the towns we live in, books and old guys who look like Santa. We learned that Sam and Lane 2 are in love with Asians, a fact neither could explain. Lane 2 dresses like a senior citizen with her crocheted cap and flashy scarf. There was actually a cute little Asian lady at a table next to us dressed an awful lot like my kid.

Sam the vegan, likes mustard and pickle sandwiches, and much to Lane 2’s shock, “can’t even eat cheeseburgers.” Apparently mustard and pickles provide enough energy to run a locomotive… that child never stops talking, and I kind of loved that about her. Plus she laughed at some of my corny jokes, not the one where I pretended to grab her mom’s boobs, however.

My daughter was certain she was heading out to be, “murdered by Mom’s crazy internet friends” it was even what she set as her status update on Facebook on our way out the door to meet them. So, from Lane 2, “Thanks for not murdering us!”

Jodi came bearing gifts. For the Lanes, a lovely Raspberry Tart Wisconsin-brewed ale, which may or may not have gotten someone laid. *cheeky grin*

Ladies, it was a pleasure to meet all of you. I’m looking forward to Chicago 2010!

  2. LOIS...what a fun blog! I'm sure the walls rattled in that Italian restaurant from all the laughter! So fun the kids got to meet, too.

    I better actually get moving.

    Have a good day everyone

  3. I'm glad everyone had a good time. Great blog No Newz! I wonder if Chicago knows what they are in for? Someone should warn them!

    Congrats on 1st Maureen!

  4. Carol this was the final tally that I took:

    Friday 11th - 0
    Saturday 12th - 2
    Friday 18th - 1
    Saturday 19th 2
    Any time - 2
    Not Sure - 1
    Thursday 17th - 1
    Any time except 19th - 1
    Any time except 18th - 1

    This is what you said:

I think we should shoot for the 19th, I have a dinner to attend, but I will be around in the afternoon, and of course at night.. Goldie is having her party but she said she can stop by, and Jodi said she would stop by to.. Plus that gives me three weeks to do the blog.. and if I don't get it done I can work on it Friday Nite.. with no worries of work the next day..

Soo.. I am going to make a executive decision and say the 19th..

    OK..

  5. I say go with the 19th Carol. It looks like a good day for most. And don't stress over a blog. Put up a picture of a Christmas tree, say "Ho!Ho!Ho!" and you're done!

  8. Good morning and congratulations to Mo # Hooter!!

Shirley, I warned Chicago that the 2010 Owl visit would be WAY bigger than anything to ever FLY into O'Hare.

Waving a middle finger wing to Tina. Look at the birdie, bitch. iNOTjs...okay so maybe I am. :P

I left lots of details out. Maybe Jodi and The Jennifers (great band name btw) will fill in the gaps.

BUT ladies, PLEASE don't mention the part where we all downloaded the ring tone of Zona singing onto our cellies. It may embarrass her.

It's a snow day for the kids and a work day for me. Wonder if there will be a house standing when I return. :) Happy day, all y'all!

  9. Good morning Tina and Janice!

Good morning No Newz! Glad you alerted Chicago. Maybe we should start collecting bail money now. I'll put the bail money jar out on the counter. Give what you can people!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good Morning from the snowed in WI Hooter!!

    Congrats on 1st MO!

Lois, loved the blog and sorry I wasn't able to join you ladies that day.

Your take on Sam is dead on- love her to death, but the child never even comes up for a breath!. My advice to Jodi when a teenager says something shocking is "they are like dogs- don't let them see the fear!"

Mr. Goldie felt the same way the first time I met Jodi- he was convinced she was going to be an axe murdered. They first time they met, thats how I introduced her. So Lane 2 is not alone in her feelings!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Shirley~ You made Janice laugh~

nn/ll~ effu~ :D .....i'm sure details from the others would be enlightening~ (speak girls!)

btw..you're just kidding about the ringtone..right?

    Fun blog today LL/NN..thank you!

    MO: Congrats on FIRST!

SHIRLEY: So..where do you want the trees?

GOLDIE: Snowed in can be a good thing too..kwim? As BEAR would tell you..friction is a great way to keep warm! ;)

CAROL: What if you do what you did at New Years...have the Christmas party start at say..8pm on the 18th..and just let it run all day on the 19th..then maybe everyone could attend? Just an idea..

TINA: Sometimes all it takes to break the ice is a familiar picture..ijs.. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  24. yeah....but that was DeeDee's picture all over your house~

    ReplyDelete
  25. Tina shouldn't you be working or are you making poor Janice do everything? I bet she could use a vacation.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Zona you can set the trees up where there are suppose to go. Oh and you can put the lights on the ones that line the driveway too. Thanks! You're a doll! Make sure they all match!

    ReplyDelete
  27. MO Congrats on first! It's not an easy thing to do these days.

Shirley How are you feeling? Is the cold getting better?

    Tina My, you're pretty!

Goldie LOL @ they are like dogs!

Carol Try not to stress out. You are the hostess with the mostest. :)

Zona What did you sing? Show tune?

NN/LL What a fun blog and what a fun time you all must have had. I am totally jealous! LOL @ "Thanks for not murdering us"!

    ReplyDelete
  29. and a gracious good afternoon....

Did I hear my name?? yes Zona a picture is worth a thousand words...which takes me back to that rosary cat yesterday.....I dreamt last night that I was covered in ringworm.....

Speaking of the rosary...have you all heard the song "The Vatican Rag"??

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f72CTDe4-0

    thats the link...its cute.....

I heard a funny story this morning...It seems this elderly couples son bought them an expensive talking bird to keep them company......the son didn't hear from his parents so the day after thanksgiving he called to see how they liked the bird.....his Dad said "it was delicious...thank you son"......
The son was astonished...."YOU ATE THAT BIRD??!!" That bird cost me thousands of dollars and spoke 3 languages!!!!

His Dad said..."Well...I guess he should have said something"....

    ReplyDelete
  30. TINA: Exactly!! :D

J/LIN: Showtune? Not even close! LOL!

DEEDEE: Sometimes more than a thousand words..if you look closely enough..

    ReplyDelete
  31. LOIS - What a great pic....but I like the one Sam took....I think it shows you going in for the kill!!! I had a blast meeting you and JENNhofer, but it was a second time lunching with JENNIFER!!! Who'da thunk it would take someone from WESconsin to get all you "neighbors" together?!!? And LANE 2 was just as funny as could be. Her facial expressions to all the Christmas music was worth the trip itself!!! And you're welcome on the gift....BOOM CHICA WAA WAA!!! Thanks again for meeting us for lunch and I can't wait for CHICAGO!!!

CAROL - I still need to talk to GOLDIE, but hopefully will book our room by the end of the week.

GOLDIE - lol @ never show the fear!!!

ZONA - I hadn't even thought of sharing your song til you texted me!! So thanks for that!!! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. Waving a wing @ MO (congrats on 1st!!), SHIRLEY, TINA, SLIN & DEE DEE!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. DEEDEE: I've always liked Tom Lehrer..and my mom always hated that I did..especially when she found out that I knew 'The Vatican Rag' by heart.. ;)

    JODI: Yeah..me and my big mouth..twice!! :D

    ReplyDelete
  34. SHIRLEY - Love your This Owl Says.....amen sistah!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. LOIS...I'm a dork. I truly meant to comment this morning that I love the pic! And also I'm glad that HODI, SAMtastic and the JENNIFERS didn't bring their axes along!!

HODI...great pic of you! You always wear such a great smile.

ZONA...I guess if MARY drives to Chicago and brings the karaoke stuff you WILL be singing!!

The weather here is really weird. This morning it was near 50 and tonight it is supposed to be in the teens. There is an errant snowflake around but the wind is ghastly. We are having 60mph gusts. It is really noisy! And scary!

    CAROL...the hotel looks great.

SHIRLEY...thanks for starting the bail fund now!

JUST LIN...it surely isn't easy. I had to be late to work to get 1st!!

DEE DEE...many years ago I saw Tom Lerher in concert. SO FUNNY! I think my favorite song was Poisening Pigeons in the Park!!

  37. Okay, my computers took a major shit today. I've bben pullig my hair out to bring them back to life. Then I come here and it's 12/10? With a post by our beloved LL/NN? Did I hit my head again? Has the world turned up-side-down> Maybe I got hit harder than I thought! I have to nurse my flippin' computers... back if I can.

    ReplyDelete
  38. SHIRLEY: And you want this all done by the 19th? HELP!!

    MO: Not THAT song! :D

BONACHI: Ok..the visual of you 'nursing' your computers is just too weird for me.. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  39. Zona you will have the Mr. to help you. But put the inside trees up first. I want Lynn D, SaBarb and Just Lin to get busy decorating them.

Did you manage to find the holly berries? Jennifer, Mary and Goldie need to get started on the wreaths. Remember girls I need a big wreath for the gate at the end of the driveway as well as all the other ones you are going to make for the house.

    Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Okay..from left to right..I want to know..in the pic.

I am tired..went and worked out and just got back, 15,845 steps today.

Congrats on first MO and glad to hear that JBJ will be on SNL. I always tape it. I watched that special on Showtime about him and I can see why you love him! He will be at the HulabaLou in Louisville at Churchill Downs on July 23.

I booked my hotel room today too. I am so excited! I am thinking of driving but might fly and get a rental car because it just might be cheaper.

    ReplyDelete
  41. SHIRLEY...no Hanukkah decorations???????

BEBBI...why rent a car if you fly?

    ReplyDelete
  42. Because I will probably fly in to Midway and not O'hare..so I will have to get to the hotel.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Maureen if you tell me what we need for Hanukkah decorations I will make sure Zona goes out and gets them.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Well I'm off to bed now. I hope this wind doesn't knock the power out. I really should invest in some kind of a small battery operated generator that would be able to run my CPAP machine. Anyone know if I could get something like that?

    Good night everyone...even Tina.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes, if I fly there isn't a shuttle to the hotel and the taxi is $50 (but the subway is $2.50)...so I will probably rent a car for a day. that won't be too bad and I like to have mobility too.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh that's a good idea Maureen!

Zona make sure you get right on that OK?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Goodnight Shirley. I hope your power stays going too. I don't know of anything but a generator. We have one and it came in handy when our power was out last year. BUT, never use one indoors or you could die. Also, don't put it too close to open windows either. It can be very dangerous.

    ReplyDelete
  48. But Bebbi you can't drive after eating Goldie's brownies! Oh boy I guess we better dig deep for the bail fund jar!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. ha...yay buuuyah tina..that was pleasant.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Shirley, I will not eat goldie's brownies and drive. :) Thanks for worrying about me. I might just come up to NS and snatch you up and bring you back to Chicago! I flew out of Chicago when I went to Halifax.

    ReplyDelete
  51. SHIRLEY...have ZONA google the generator, too!!

BEBBI...i will probably end up flying thru Midway, too. But probably only out as I may go to my brother 1st and have JODI take me into Chicago from there

    ReplyDelete
  52. uh....excuse me! I do believe I said I'd pick you up! jewish bish~

    ReplyDelete
  53. Bebbi~

It's Jennifer, Jennifer, LL, and Jodi~

    ReplyDelete
  54. Shirley~ goodnight~ and I was thinking about this earlier today....at work...while i was working....and Janice was working....I LOVE calling you Shirl....in my head...it's what I always call you...cuz I LOVE the name...I think it's cool...like you...but I will never repeat this again and will never admit to saying it! mkay?~

    ReplyDelete
  55. TINA...why drive all the way from chicago when HODI is already in WI? You Catolic whore

    ReplyDelete
  56. Mo: Well, I can take you to the airport on the next day, unless I get tickets for Oprah on Monday. I am working on that.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Mo~ cuz i had nothing else to do~ :D

    ReplyDelete
  58. TINA...if you wanna pick me up, that's cool, too. Maybe I will just fly round trip from milwaukee and HODI can take me back there. Both of you can then have extra time with me!! Two of you will just be extra lucky!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Do you mean they will get Mo time with you than the rest of us?

    ReplyDelete
  60. Is anyone else bringing a friend? I mean, what if I get there and everyone is already friends with everyone else and no one likes me!

Is that letting my insecurities show?

    ReplyDelete
  61. oh hell no, I'm not bringing anyone~ Then I'd be stuck with them and not have any fun~

    Mo~ I think I'm gonna puke~ I think I'm going on Thursday~

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hi. Can't wait for chicago and we will have a big picture to post. Thanks for the picture and fun blog LL. Well, it was -16 last night here. Anyone able to beat that yet? Brr we r cold

    ReplyDelete
  63. So if you are going on thurs, you can pick me up friday morning and then I can camp out in your room friday night...hmmmmmm...an extra day in Chicago...that might be fun.

    ReplyDelete
  64. BEBBI...if ya walk from Midway to Ohare, you will get all your steps in for the rest of the year...and save the car rental money...ijs!!!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hello Everyone..

Again, my night flew by.. crap..

I truly dont know where the time goes..

Well I did some christmas shopping on line.. did not actually buy anything but def got ideas..

    ReplyDelete
  66. DIANNE...-16???? Yikes. That is just wrong on so many levels

    ReplyDelete
  67. Bebbi..

No, I am not bringing a friend, cause all my friends and serial killers will be there... ;O)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Mo: It is 20 miles..and I would but I want to save some energy for dancing on the bar at Outback.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Mo..

LOL Bebbi on her steps.. Actually I would not put it past her, she can do that walk in no time..

    ReplyDelete
  70. I was thinking of bring my gay friend. Is Whabby or Joey coming?

    ReplyDelete
  71. OMG...Jimmy Kimmel just did the funniest thing. Phantom of the Oprah!! It will prolly be on YouTube tomorrow...check it out.

    CAROL...hello!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Bebbi..

Well then don't forget your stilettos!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Mo..

    I saw that.. sooo funny...

    Hello back.. :O)

    ReplyDelete
  74. CAROL...LOL@ all your friends and serial killers will already be there!! Actually, I was thinking the same thing!!!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Shit, I sold my Stilettos on ebay when I gave up the lifestyle. I guess it's time to buy a new pair.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Bebbi..

Don't worry about nobody liking you.. the person we don't like is Tina!

    ReplyDelete
  77. CAROL...as a travel industry expert, I have a question for you.

Do I have to pack my ax in my checked luggage?? bwahahahaha

    ReplyDelete
  78. Bebbi..

Ask Goldie if you can borrow hers, she has several pairs, so I don't think she would mind..

    ReplyDelete
  79. Carol & Mo: I envy your ability to just go and not have a security friend along!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Mo...

Yes def check in the axe, then you can surprise all of us, when you take it out of your luggage and go in for the kill..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  81. LOL Carol..that is good to know!

Mo: That was another reason I thought of driving, it will be hard to check the chainsaw. If I drive, I can just pack up the chainsaw, bleach, garbage bags, gloves, rope, etc...and be ready.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Bebbi..

I normally would never do this, however I have know many of you for over two years.. so I feel ok with it.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Another good reason to bring a friend, to help carry the bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  84. BEBBI...don't forget the duct tape

    ReplyDelete
  85. Fuck the bodies Bebbi.. ya just gotta run..... and as fast as you can.....

    ReplyDelete
  86. Can you imagine if someone is reading this, geez, they might call the FBI on us..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  87. And if you're planning on bringing poison, you can only carry on 2oz, not enough for the whole gaggle of owls that will be there

    ReplyDelete
  88. Thats ok Mo, if we all bring 2oz, then there will be enough to go around..

    ReplyDelete
  89. I could ask my son to come along, well actually I did, but now he has a steady girlfriend. I may be able to talk them into coming and going their own separate way so I can at least have some security. We'll see. Also, I don't know how the hubby is going to react when I tell him I am going to Chicago alone! He may not like that. He may think I am going to have a wild and passionate escape weekend with my younger lover. Hmmmm, that sounds kind of nice, actually!! (just KIDDING).

    ReplyDelete
  90. Attn K Mart Shoppers

The blog will be up late tomorrow, I am posting it from work.. prob around 10ish..

    End of Red Light Special

    ReplyDelete
  91. Thanks Mo, can't go anywhere without my duct tape. haha.

Carol: But, I would have to leave a rather large tip for the maid if I left the bodies.

    ReplyDelete
  92. CAROL...I am actually really surprised that you wanted to do this. I am glad you decided to ;)

I figured that if ZONA survived TINA and DIANNE and MEK, then we will be ok!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Bebbi..

Young lover is actually better than serial killers..

    ReplyDelete
  94. What's up with Mek? I haven't seen her in forever. I wondered if she is doing okay? I think of her everytime I drive past Michaels. Actually, went into Michaels at lunch the other day to run my Mom on an errand. Thought of her then too.

    ReplyDelete
  95. CAROL...ummmm, KMART has BLUE light specials. Hookers have RED light specials!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Just changed my reservation to Friday and Saturday. I will probably change it again if I get Oprah on Monday..lol.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Mo..

Truth be told, I put alot of thought into it, If I don't do it, I don't think I will ever meet all of you..

To much has transpired here in the nest for me not to meet the crazy's I spend my internet time with..

I am sure when I get closer to the date panic mode will set in, but I will deal with it then..

I only choose to go 1nite instead of two, as 1 nite will be easier for me to handle..

    Soo.. on we go.. :O)

    ReplyDelete
  98. Ok, I am off to bed. I have to get up at 6am and go to the Y. I didn't go on Tuesday because I had a terrible headache. Goodnight and sweet dreams everyone. :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. BEBBI...after all this time I really don't think there will ever be a lull in conversation or a lack of laughter between the WHOLE group.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Carol, have you met anyone from the nest yet?

    ReplyDelete
  101. Well, then it will be a big fun weekend and you should go two nights! :) I hope you do. Nighters!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Ok.. I have to go to bed too..

    See you all tomorrow..

Sweet Dreams all you crazy Serial Killers..

    :O)

    ReplyDelete
  103. I wasa just thinking that most of us have only conversed via computer, text or phone...will we all have to bring our laptops so we can talk??? LOL!! I can see it now...the whole gang sitting in the lobby of the hotel with our laptops typing to each other!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. 'weenie: Stranger things have happened! And seriously, I haven't yet met a Rossland blog buddy or Owl that conformed to my hazy expectation of what they would look like!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Bebbi: Considering! :)

Zona: My brother-in-law has this great t-shirt. It's a succession of images of two "stick people" (literally, it looks like they're made of twigs) having missionary position sex. Across the images, the two figures catch fire, first in the groin area, then spreading out to consume them in flames completely.

The caption: "Why stick people went extinct"!! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  106. The poor Jennifers got stuck working on what turned out to be a snow day for everyone in this damn state, except them! Maybe they’ll be able to fill in the other details on the weekend. I hope you ladies have today off at least. School just called another snow day for the Lane kids!

Dianne, today it’s -22 with the windchill. Have you ever been so cold you felt as if your nipples would just snap off like two little snow peas??? Kitchen pipes have froze. Looks like I'll have to get out my trusty hairdryer before they explode. FUN! NOT!

Thanks for all of your nice comments. In case you missed Tina’s comment… In the picture (left to right) Iteach, The Other Jennifer, Lois Lane’s head and Jodi. Sorry I forgot to send a caption.

Carol, five times, huh? Then I’m sure you saw a typo or two. LOL! Glad you felt there, you were in spirit too. I also love the way you write. Thank you! And thanks for bringing us crazy bitches together.

Sorry, Zona, it’s true. As Sam would say, “We jammed out with our clams out” to your song on our cell phones. Your rendition is now available on iTunes so Joey and Bear can rock out with their cocks out too.

An open invite to any and all SOs who think ALL internet friends are serial killers. If you want to accompany your Owl to Chicago, I will drag Mr. Lane with so you will not be alone. (I understand Mr. Bebbi not taking kindly to the missus running off to Chicago alone.)

BTW, what is this Oprah shit, Bebbi? You are using us to get to her??!?!?!??!?! Whatevah!

If need be, I can borrow the teen center van, it holds 15.

Also, check costs for your flight. O’Hare is typically the most expensive to fly into. You may be able to save money (providing you make arrangements with me or one of The Jennifers - not to volunteer them, however) by coming into Rockford Airport (RFD) which is closer to where we live than O’Hare. (Not all cities fly into RFD.) Rockford is 1 ½ hrs. from O’Hare so you would be in the car a long time with a country bumpkin [cereal] killer. I like Frosted Flakes, BTW. (Midway is about the same amount of time from O’Hare because of traffic.)

Tina, come closer, I have a secret. No, closer. Closer than that, damn it. *whispers into your ear* pssst… you are a WHORE! :P

Jodi, big ol’ kisses and a hooter grab, because I apparently can. :D

Chichi, stop surfing porn and your computer wouldn’t crap out. Sheesh! I have to tell you everything, don’t I?!
