The Pill Container From Hell

by Shirley

Due to the fact that I now have to take more pills at different times of the day, I decided to buy myself a new pill container. You know, one of the ones that has a compartment for breakfast, noon, supper and bedtime. So when I went to pick up my new prescription, I bought one ($10.00). I went home, brought all my pills out to the kitchen and proceeded to fill my new pill container...or so I thought. Little did I know that taking it out of the cardboard and plastic it was wrapped in would be the easiest part. I looked at it and thought to myself
"Ok, how the hell do you open this?"

There were panels on the top that looked like you just pushed them up. WRONG. There was a plastic divider on top of the panels so I thought maybe you push down on it and slide the panel out. WRONG. Five or six minutes into this I'm saying (out loud this time) "This is ridiculous. It's a freaking pill container, it does not hold the Queen's Crown Jewels!"

So I continue to look at this THING in my hand and wonder how I am ever going to get it open. Suddenly on the side I see a panel that says "To open press here and slide". Whoopie!!! Finally. So I press and slide the panel off.

"Ok now what?"

I see a plastic tab so I pull on it. NOTHING. Now at this point (probably about 10 minutes or so) I'm starting to get a little pissed. I pull a little harder on the tab. Keeping in mind it's only plastic and I don't want to break it off. Taking it back is now looking like a very good option. The tray starts to slowly come out.

"Ok, I think we have it now." When I get the tray out I notice how flimsy it is. You know when you buy a package of cookies and the tray that the cookies are in...it's very flimsy right? That's what this was like. But I put my pills in it anyway. The morning pills didn't fit so well. I rearranged them and started to slide the tray back in. This was not going to be easy (not that anything so far had been). After spilling some of the pills a couple times I got the tray back in. Then I thought if I have to do that four times a day...no, that's not going to work. So I again look at those top panels and figure there must be a way to get to the pills through them. After a couple minutes I figured it out. At the top of the container you have to push down really really hard and then slide the panel from the bottom. It was at that moment I decided I was taking this pill container from hell back to the store. There is no way a senior or anyone with arthritis could open that pill container. It was absolutely ridiculous!! And it sure as hell wasn't worth $10.00!!!!

Thank you all for reading my rant. Anything like that ever happen to any of you? Please share with us.

  2. Good Morning!

SHIRLEY: LMAO! I can just see myself doing the exact same thing..only I think the pill container would have landed on the other side of the room somewhere..you are much more patient than I would have been!

I understand the childproofing on medication..but I hate it. I can never turn/push/lift/pull all in the same motion..at least not with a pill bottle! HA! :D

Great blog today SHIRLEY..and I hope you're able to find a pill container that is a little easier to operate!

  3. SHIRLEY: Congrats on FIRST! Can I help you up..you seem to have lost your foot-ing.... ;)

    BARB!: Good morning Sunshine!

  4. Mornin' Zona. Did you get the rain we had here the past two days? I think it was headed your way.

Shirley, I have seen those pill containers in the store and wondered who would ever need something like that. Now I know. Sorry it is such a complex process to open. Maybe there is a simpler one you can exchange it for.

Happy Monday to everyone. I have to make some breakfast for the travelers now. :) BBL

  10. CAROL: LOL! I meant I couldn't do that with pill bottles! :D

BARB: We haven't had rain yet..but it looks very dark and dreary outside. It has been a little cold..in the low 60's during the day and there was even a freeze warning the other night..Mr Z set his Pepsi can on top of the car and I heard it crash to the ground..he yelled.."Tell Jodi I found some ice!!" :D

  11. Morning Glories!

Shirley got first on her own blog! Imagine that. Congrats!

Shirley honey I hope none of those pills were for blood pressure, mine was going up just reading that!

I want to know why we safety seal oh....mustard, ketchup, etc... those damn little sealers are freaking a pain in the ass to remove, but notice that sugar flour and baking items are free to tamper with, did you notice????

I feel so warm and fuzzy and so protected don't you? Kind of like a tiny hole in a condom.

PS I bet you 10 Canadian dollars a toddler could have had that container open before you could say drool!

  12. Congrats on 1st Shirley!

    Good morning/afternoon everyone!

Zona the thought of throwing that little sucker across the room was very tempting, believe me!

Sacbarb I just want to find one that you can just flip each compartment open...easily. I'm not asking for World peace, just a simple pill container for a simple gal!

Believe me Carol, if I had know it was going to be that complicated to open I would never have forked out 10 buck for the damn thing! Now I can't find my receipt.

Lynn I agree with you, child proofing is important and yes a toddler probably could have opened it. Unfortunately I didn't have any here that day!

  13. My avatar was in a snowplow accident, that's why she only has one leg. She is getting an icicle leg but it isn't quite frozen yet!

  14. Good Morning everyone. I am just checking in. I will be back after my nap.

Shirley - Congrats on first and I feel your frustration. I would take it back.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Carol, LMAO I DID go back to bed after they left and slept for two hours.

Lynn, Ha, I never thought about the food that isn't tamper proof.

Shirley, Sorry about the snow plow accident involving your avatar. Hope that icicle prosthetic doesn't take too long. :)

My pill containers are easy to open and I get them for free from the pharmacist where I get my RX, but they are only for one week. Maybe you can ask if they have bigger free ones for your needs.

Tinka, I see you got 25 again. I hope your legs are better today.

  16. Shirley, that is just SO irritating! User friendly, that device was not!

SacBarb and Zona: It's cool down here again too, but the forecast is for warming temperatures over the next few days! Yay!

  17. Dee Dee: Can you lobby Mr Mitchell to fund my lab? LOL!

  18. uh oh..Shirley is taking after Tina and doing the #1 on her own blog! eeps..bad influence there Tina.

Congrats on first Shirley..even if it somehow seems WRONG.

LOL, at your blog. My daughter and I have pill containers. I just bought a new, bigger one because I added Calcium pills and with all the others I take, my old container wouldn't close!

I only have the weekly one though. They are terribly complicated.

My daughter has one and my sister saw it. She said she was too young to have an "old lady" pill container and she would find her one that was "young and hip"...well, my daughter told me later, she liked hers and didn't think it was an old lady one at all. I love my daughter, she is so awesome!

  19. My question is, why does the childproof cap on my Excedrin bottle (that is so hard for me to open) spill open in my purse? Is there a little adult in there turning it so it will open and cause hundreds of excedrin tablets to end up in the bottom of my purse?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Shirley, congrats on 1-5! I see Tina has been a bad influence!
Luckily I don't have pills to take other than Motrin. I do have to put in eye drops every morning & Night. I have a terrible time remembering. They aren't the same prescrip. So far I haven't mixed them up!

BBL, I better pay attention to my dinner. No one likes burnt meat & taters!

  21. Shirley, I've not read any of the comments yet, but I loved your pill-box-from-hell.

I ran into something similar when I bought a retail version of MS software. I usually just pay and download. This highly trained computer scientist and mechanical engineer could not open the flippin' box.

I finally got a 22 year-old high school graduate to open it for me. If I'd wanted a damn Chinese Puzzle Box, I'd have bought one!

  22. Two thoughts after reading the comments;

First, we should patent a dispenser for pharmacists to use. Prescriptions should come prefilled in easy-to-open containers for whatever time you gals need to take your meds. When the month's up, you get yourself another pre-filled container.

Second, I make no secret about my disdain for docs who throw pills at people to shut them up. Are we all REALLY informed about what we're taking, why we're taking it and the effects of taking it? A doc who offers more medication than advice is just a drug dealer to me.

  23. *** JBJ Alert ***

Off topic, I know. I've just seen a screener version of the latest vid for "We Weren't Born To Follow". It's going to knock your socks off, bring some tears and make you want to go out and make a difference. One of their best, imho.

  24. SHIRLEY...grats on 1st, ya cheaqter you!!!

Absolutely take that sucker back. There seems to be something totally wrong with that design. Def ask the pharmacist, or your doc if they have a simpler version you can have. Good luck.

SACBARB...glad you got a nap after the kids left.

ZONA...lots of snow here for ya if ya want it! I was talking with an insurance co. in Phoeniz and the guy was bitching because it was "only in the 60's" I told him to shut up...that was about 50degrees warmer then here!!

  25. Would you ladies and gents kindly search your computers for a file called keymaker.exe? It's a password stealer and the little f*cks that pull that crap really piss me off. If you find the file, delete it (you may need malware remover) and change your passwords.

  26. Where are my pills? I need my pills. There they are! Now I just need a safecracker, blowtorch and the Jaws Of Life to get to them.

  27. Good evening Owls!

Tinka I'm still looking for my receipt, but even if I don't find it I am going to get another pill container. There must be an easier one to open out there somewhere.

Sacbarb it's good that you can get yours free. I'll ask about that. Actually I don't mind paying for one as long as I don't need a stick of dinamite to get into it!

No Whabbear it certainly was not user friendly!

Bebbi check for a back door on your Excedrin bottle! LOL!!

Mary I hope you didn't burn your supper!

Oh Bonachichi don't even get me started on opening packages!! Why do they have to make the simplest thing so bloody complicated! Geez it takes me 10 minutes to get into a new toothbrush!! Grrrrrr!

Maureen I don't think I can get one for free, but like I told Sacbarb, I don't mind paying for one as long as I can get into it.

  28. LOL @ Bonachichi needing "a safecracker, blowtorch and the Jaws Of Life" to open her pills!!!!

  31. Oh geeze, I forgot to tell you all something.

On Christmas day, my cousin made CHOCOLATE COVERED BACON!!!

It was def different. As much as I love chocolate and love bacon...I'm still on the fence about it!

  32. Mo..

OMG.. Chocolate Covered Bacon.. You must have looked liked a Burnt Crispy Chocolate Easter Bunny on Crack..

  36. Shirley - I have so much trouble opening any lids except the ones they make for people with arthritis. It is one of the most annoying aspects of my life. I always need someone to help me and that doesn't help one's self confidence. I guess I should be thankful there is always someone there to help. Ah, for the good old days.

  37. Carol, congrats on #50. And now to check my farms and go to bed. Good Night everyone.
