I had a really good day today. Nothing spectacular happened. It was one of those days where everything just falls into place. I had a meeting scheduled with a new partner. His name's Jerry and before today, I'd never even seen him. The way he described himself, I was looking for Alfred Hitchcock. I was to meet him at Starbucks and as usual, I was early. I sat down and popped open my laptop. There were some people talking nearby, but I was doing whatever I do.
I kept looking up from time to time, searching for Alfred. A lady asked me if I was meeting someone and I told her I was a consultant, meeting another consultant. It is one of the unchangeable laws of the universe that if you tell people you're a computer person, they'll ask for advice. I don't mind it. It keeps me on my toes. Her son had something wrong with his laptop. I knew it was a virus and told her to call him and have him bring his machine to Starbucks.
Then I went looking for Alfred. I mean Jerry. He was in the parking lot, leaning against his car. For the record, he doesn't look anything like Alfred Hitchcock. I told him I'd met a woman who needed some help and maybe we could work together and get a feel for each other.
I can't even describe the ease with which we worked together. We'd just met, but were on the same page. Jerry doesn't write computer software. The only thing he does is remove viruses and spyware, a booming business. And he is a master. I could have gotten the job done, but it would have taken me longer and I'd not have had the confidence he did.
After the woman and her son thanked us, Jerry told me he'd love to partner with me. Apparently the ease I felt with him was mutual. This all started as a shot in the dark. A phone call to some unknown person. Everything fell into place and I've now got someone to navigate this technology jungle with. I've been on my own for a long time and I'm so thrilled to have someone on my team. Sometimes it's just the little things in life that are most satisfying.
What are some of the little things in your life that really make your day?

woo hoo hoo..!
ReplyDeletemore like saran wrap! (but do you even know what that is?!)
ReplyDeletecurses!! Foiled again!!
ReplyDeletewell isn't that a fine how-do-you-do?! for those of you who missed it...DeeDee wrote:
ReplyDeleteRats! Foiled again!!!!
and then she writes it again!
ReplyDeleteWHAT THE HECK!!!!~
OMG!! Sister Alowishus! The sight of a nun this early is a little disconcerting....
ReplyDeleteI didn't say anything about rats! But as long as we are on the subject....how are you ladies this morning??
ReplyDeleteMy exclamation point didn't make it in that deleted post....I hate it when that happens....
ReplyDeleteOh boy! They're at it again. Congrats on #1 Bebbi; did you even go to sleep last night?
ReplyDeleteDeeDee, I missed you the last couple days. I hope you're doing well.
Tina, really? You're still trying that nun routine? We just aren't going to buy it.
well I read your piece Bonachichi and I know what you mean.....I am an attorney and when people find out they all want free legal advice.....
ReplyDeleteWell.....actually they don't ask that often......it really never comes up unless I bring it up......I never actually practiced law....I intended to but something came up....
I got the degrees because back then I could see my self as a justice crusader for the downtrodden but I married a hottie and moved to the city (NYC) where he went into practice.....he knocked me up and I punched out my son and never actually ended up working..... so basically I guess what I am saying is.......
sorry for the interruption........
Morning glories!
ReplyDeleteBebbi congrats on first you look beautiful this morning. Read your blog and I really feel for you and your son. I agree with the advice that people gave. Remaining friends with your sons x has to open and up front. Always a sad occasion when anyone breaks up.
Bonachichi I love it when I meet someone in person and we just click. How does that happen? It is such a great feeling and a new friend is made.
This morning unfortunately our lives have taken a complicated turn and I am still not feeling 100 percent.
The only thing in life I ask for is enough money to pay the bills, a roof over my head and food in my pantry. That's it for the simple things, oh and a good book to read.
Tina....of course I know what Saran Wrap is....they wrap you in it at the spa and hairdressers put it on your hair for conditioning and I hear it is sometimes used for tinting the hair....having never tinted mine....I can't be 100% on that.....
ReplyDeleteHi Lynn darling...
ReplyDeleteRegarding the blog yesterday....I know several people who have maintained their relationships with their children's ex wives and husbands......including me....my son divorced his first wife....I didn't!
Bonachichi......
ReplyDeleteI have got to learn to control stress...because it has been controlling me....my friend...Lisa...said to me yesterday...." you haven't insulted me in weeks! And I am getting tired of it!"........when I do catch myself not sweating the things I can't control and not being on pins and needles with Lisa its great....I think she has helped me hit a happier more pleasurable plateau.......we batted some bullshit "out of the park" last night....and I let Lisa be enchanting....rather than looking at her like something that might break...and it was wonderful.....she is quite a hitter....lol
I have temporarily taken down my "flying sea monster" as per your request.....your remarks have made me realize where ROFLMAO came from.......I don't know when I have laughed so hard...convulsed from it...peed a little and had tears running down my face over a single remark.....omg...ur funny.....
Good Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeletecongrats on 1st Bebbi!
Lynn (hugs) to you- hope things get better soon.
The one thing that just makes it a great day for me is when I pick up the phone and hear "hi gramma Heidi". Melts me.
The other thing that just makes my frigging day is when my boss (not the one I am married to) has to admit he was WRONG about something and I was right. :)
Today is going to be a good day because I was able to put on a different pair of shoes today and my broken toe doesn't mind!
Hope you all have a great day.
If anyone needs baby clothes, I hear DeeDee's got some extras laying about. They may have been stuffed down her pants, but hey, that's what washers are for.
ReplyDeletelol at "Baby clothes"...
ReplyDeleteI hate to be a blog hog but to answer your question Bonachichi about what makes your day.....
When I wake up...after I remember who I am and where I am....when I enter the world of the living just beyond my bedroom doors.....its nice to see everyone accounted for and acting like they are doing what they get paid for....no phones no television.....just music...as I survey my little world through an expanse of glass....it makes me feel good....and happy. One of the main things about this house is that it is almost completely glass and wood across the back....and the way this lot is situated the trees and bushes block my view of anything unattractive....whereas...in my previous house I kinda had to squat a little and cross my eye to get the view I wanted.......
so....my backyard makes me happy...
oh! oh! and my favorite thing!! Revving my cars engine as I approach pedestrians! That always a hoot!!
And tracking orders on the internet!! I love ordering something and tracking it til I see "on the truck and out for delivery!"
Last night I ordered a book...its title is "35 Miles From Shore" ...the reviews say it is a riveting account of the only open water ditching in aviation history...happening in the Caribbean in 1970....the cockpit crew survived as did many of the passengers.....but the captain never flew again......can't wait to read it....
point is ...Barnes and Noble does a great job of keeping you up to the minute with your orser....Emails so far:
1. rcvd order
2. as per your instructions packed a copy wearing gloves to guard against skin oils from marring your book!
3. Getting ready to ship it now...
4. taking it to the shipping area...
5. Its on its way!!!
OMG this stuff is almost as good as sex on crack!!! I LOVE GETTING THINGS IN THE MAIL OR UPS!!!!! FEDEX is a little more elusive with the info....they really make me squeal with delight!!
Oops! Zorch fire!! Later gators....!
UPS Rocks..ijs.
ReplyDeleteDeeDee, I just read part of your post I must have missed. You say you got rid of the sea monster? What then, is flying over your island? My first thought was Velociraptor, but I don't think those things fly. There is an ominous shadow skimming over that place and I'm afraid it will eat me.
ReplyDeleteDi is probably going to be having a few of those perfect days... I checked the Royal Caribbean website, and guess what? They changed the Mexican Riviera! Didn't Xiatanejo and Acapulco used to be part of that?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, it looks like beautiful weather. Wonder what she's doing now?
wanna laugh? I'm now taking phone calls and 2 new people are stuck listening to me! I'M their very first example of what not to do here! :)~
ReplyDeleteGood Afternoon!
ReplyDeleteBONACHI: A new friend made, a business partnership begun and successfully helping someone with a problem..what a great day for you! Any one of those things would have been enough..that it all happened on the same day is very cool!
A really nice day for me is one where there is nothing really happening. When a friend calls and asks "So..what's going on with you?" It's kind of nice to say "Oh nothing." and know life is just going along smoothly and no big problems have arisen. I can sit back, relax..and not worry about a thing. Don't laugh..I actually have days where I don't worry! ;)
BEBBI: Happy 1! Yes, UPS does!
DEEDEE: LOL@ Squat and cross..omg..!! :D
LYNN: A good book is a must! I sure hope you feel better soon!
GOLDIE: It gives me a little thrill when Mr Z has to admit he was wrong...hehehe.. ;)
TINA: Are you feeling better today? ;)
DEEDEE: I hope the fire is out!
I need to go and shred old bills, junk mail etc. I miss the days where you could just throw all this stuff away. Time to crank up the music..and shred away! Have a great day everyone!
24?
ReplyDelete25! BAM
ReplyDeleteTina's training newbies? Oh, lord. 1-800-SMR-TASS.
ReplyDeleteBonachichi: A really great day for me is when all the kids are home randomly and we just have one of those unexpected times. I love that!
ReplyDeleteAlso, regarding work. I love a day when I am "in the zone" and everything is going very smoothly...that is my fave for work.
lol....no bonachichi.....even I know that i need to behave~
ReplyDeleteabout your blog~ It really is just the simple things.....I think being able to get up when I want to, get on the internet and play or watch tv or read a book, AND not get any grief from my family about it.....that's just the best~
also....I stopped to talk to a couple of members of management on my way back from "helping" the newbies and I was given a compliment which I totally didn't see coming, nor did I think it warranted~ but hey.....who am I to argue~ (actually....i did argue!) :)~
Howdy everyone! I am happily back online! We live on the corners of 3 counties. The neighbors to each side of us and across the road, all go to different schools. Cable has not yet reached us out here. I have tried having my own dish for so called "high speed" internet service (Hugh's), but it would get bogged down with all the users on it. I decided to bite the bullet and get my son & I Verizon thumb drives. Not bad until you use all your allotted usage. This is the first time we had both gone through our usage before the 22nd of the month! Not sure why.
ReplyDeleteBonachichi,I think my happy moment is like Goldies. I text my Granddaughter from time to time. She answers me right back. She is 12 yrs old and a sweet heart. I go back to the fave one of mine. I wrote" I love you oh light of my life", she wrote "I love you too Grandma" . Simple words, but heart grabbing!
My fave peaceful time is about now, when dinner is over, kitchen cleaned, clothes washed and I can relax on my 'puter.
Bebbi.. Happy 1..
ReplyDeleteBonacci..
ReplyDeleteMy good day, would be "no stress" simple things make me happy as well.
Glad you were able to find someone to work with, its so much easier when there is two.. Good for you, I hope your partnership is a successful one!
wb Mary! You've been MISSED. :)
ReplyDeleteBonacci..
ReplyDeleteZIH an ACA are not part of the
Mexican Riviera.
The Mexican Riviera is the Caribbean part of Mexico by the Yucatan which is bordered by the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico
ZIH and ACA are up farther bordered by the Pacific Ocean.. This area is more know as being Mexico proper.
Zona..
ReplyDeleteI like that "nothing really happening"... that surely is a good day..
happy is just getting back from the post office after sending something silly to a friend, just because~ :D
ReplyDeleteTina..
ReplyDeleteWe all joke, but I will say this whole heartily, you can train me any day, to learn from you in your field, would be a privilege..
Oh, and your other occupation.. well I think I have surpassed you! lol
