My idea of what the "Good" Poo Goddess would be

I really liked Jennifer’s story about being the Poo Goddess. You can tell she is a “good” Goddess because in her story she deals with the children in a way that will be good for their soul. There are some Poo Goddess’s that are not so kind and careful.
This may be a miss-perception and I am hoping Jennifer (or anyone who has been a teacher) can enlighten me. I just have had experiences as a parent and would truly like to hear the teacher’s point of view.
When my daughter was in 4th grade she came home very upset. It turned out the little boy next to her had an “accident”. She was so upset because the teacher would not let him “go” and he had that accident. We still talk about this incident to this day.
Well, another friend of mine recently posted on FB how angry she was at her children’s school and the local school system. I got to talking with her about it and here is the story. Her daughter asked to go to the restroom at recess and the teacher denied the request. Because of this action, her daughter had an accident and had to change clothes. They put her in a skirt. My friend did not know this happened until her daughter came home in different clothes. No call, nothing. Also, another friend of hers who’s daughter is in the class got in the car after school and immediately told her mom that “Sally” had to go and the teacher told her she couldn’t and “Sally” pooped herself. OH, and btw, this girl was 6 years old.
Come to find out, this happened with this teacher in the past. My friend got her kids changed to a different school, not just for this reason but this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. I found out when my daughter saw this happen to the little boy who sat beside that her teacher had a history of this too. Why are their teachers that do this to children? Don’t they realize the long term ramifications this can have on a child? It is such a sensitive subject, our bodily functions, and yet why do teachers forget they are dealing with young children who can be scarred emotionally?
Am I over-reacting? Does anyone else ever feel this way? What are your opinions/stories?
Morning Glories!
ReplyDeleteBebbi I don't understand about this issue. I can never remember this happening to my children and if it had I would be one Mom who would be on their asses! One time maybe but if a teacher has had this happen before? Bullshit! Not only can it cause humiliation it is not good for their physical well being either!
I personally would as a parent lobby to have the teacher dismissed if this has happened more than once.
And not to call a parent and send a child home in another outfit? Hello again inexcusable. IMHO.
Ok need to sign out soon. Will try to be back later today.
Good Morning BEAUTIFUL Lynn!!
ReplyDeleteBEBBI...I'm not a parent or a teacher, but that is just wrong on so many levels. If ya gotta go, ya gotta go.
When I was in 1st grade I had a medical problem that had yet to be diagnosed and it caused me to have terrible stomach problems and I would vomit a lot. The teacher told my parents I was faking to get out of class. I asked to use the restroom and was denied and threw up all over the classroom. I was put in the hospital for a week and had every test imaginable and finally was diagnosed and treated. Problem was solved. The teacher felt so horrible. I then became her teacher's pet! But, as you can see a million and a half years later it still sticks with me.
Too bad all teachers aren't as compassionate as Jennifer.
Buenos Penis Ladies!!
ReplyDeleteI guess this problem is just not that uncommon.....
I guess parents should instruct their children to ignore the teachers refusal and proceed to the restroom.....always better to humiliate an adult rather than a child....
It is an immense task to take responsibility for others children day in and out....and the ones who do it well are priceless...
Sending a child home in a different outfit and not having called to explain??
That person would have gotten a dead fish in the mail as warning Number One....
Make my child defecate on himself because you refused to let him go to the restroom...thereby humiliating his before his classmates....we are going to the wood shed...and one of us isn't coming back!
Everything factors in with Jennifer...she has children and knows how to treat kids.....with love and respect.....
Hell...I wanna be in her class!!
Congrats on first LynnD!
ReplyDeleteIt is good to hear the comments. It seems if you have never had this happen then it is a surprise to you that it does. Lynn, I think it seems to be a growing problem..maybe because of class sizes being larger, more stress on teachers,??... As I said, I would like to understand what could make a teacher forget that it is just a child there in front of them and not someone that can always "hold it". Shit (pardon the pun), I can't hold it and I am not a child!
Jennifer, I want to be in your class TOO! :)
Mo: I am glad that your teacher was apologetic. I am sure it made her realize (albeit one child too late) that there are a lot of factors that may make a child be sick or have to go suddenly. It does stick with you, I would imagine.
ReplyDeleteThis is a funny story. One time when I was at my grandmother's house I had to go and went in to the bathroom. My cousin was on the big people toilet and we had the little people toilet beside it. I was probably 4 or 5 at the time. Well, in my mind I figured since I had to go and someone else was going. I could just go in the little people's toilet (training toilet for my sister who was potty training). I got in SO MUCH TROUBLE for it..! I laugh about it now but it was devastating to me. I wasn't doing it to be "bad"..I did it because I had to go and the other toilet wasn't available! That sticks with me even to this day. I always wondered how they figured out it was me. Either my cousin told them who did it or my poops were too big to be a toddlers poopies.
Good Morning!
ReplyDeleteBEBBI: I can only remember one incident where a teacher hesitated in letting me go to the bathroom. I was in 3rd grade and was sick to my stomach. I tried to tell my teacher that I wasn't feeling well. She kept "one minuting" me..you know, holding her index finger up and tilting her head to the side. I guess I must have really started to look green..because all of a sudden she said "Go! Go!" I bolted out of my seat and just made it outside before..blooorrrrchh..all over the sidewalk. Turns out I had the flu. I hope she learned something from that..lol..
I don't know why teachers don't listen to kids when they say they have to go to the bathroom. I don't have children..but from years of watching nieces and nephews grow up, when a child has to go..it's pretty evident. I may be wrong, but I just don't think at such a young age kids are looking to just 'get out of class'. BEBBI, you are so right..the embarrassment from an 'accident' can last a long time. A good teacher, one like JENNIFER who has an abundance of patience and understanding..knows this and would never put a child through it in the first place.
Hello Gorgeous! Congrats on FIRST and prettiest LYNN!
MO: Like you, I remember it as if it was yesterday..right down to the plaid dress I wore!
DEEDEE: Ok..you just sounded like my mom! She wouldn't tolerate us misbehaving in school..but touch her child and you're gonna have some explaining to do!
From 51:
JODI: I know Sam will do awesome today! :)
Thanks everybody for the feel better wishes..I'm getting there! Finally! :)
Have a great Saturday everyone!
Happy Saturday Owls.
ReplyDeleteI went to Catholic school and somehow it was communicated to us never to ask to leave class. I don't remember actually being told, but I guess the fear was instilled in us. Anyway, when I was in 8th grade, one of the boys had a 'poo accident' and he was devastated. The teacher didn't refuse to let him leave class because he never asked. Had he asked, I'm not sure what she would have said. All I know is that we feared those nuns.
I wanted to know what was going on with my kids at school so I volunteered a lot. I got to know the teachers and that was so I could have a little influence in who taught my kids.
If my child had an experience like the one you described, I would have been all over that school like a mad dog. To not even call the parent was inexcusable.
Mo, So sorry you had that bad experience at such a young age. I'm glad you were able to get diagnosed and the problem solved so you could grow to be the beautiful person you are today.
ReplyDeleteDeeDee, You would make my Uncle Guido proud with your dead fish in the mail. And LOL @ the wood shed.
Zona, I think your nose is growing. Did you make that call? :0 ♥♥♥
Lynn, Good to see your greeness at first today.
ReplyDeleteBebbi, I forgot to say thanks for the blog today.
I have to get ready to go help set up for the Sorority crab feed fund raiser. We are feeding 300+ people tonight.
ReplyDeleteWaving a wing to all the other Owls. Have a good Saturday everyone. BBL
Well all, I got to see my son's ex girlfriend today at the park with her dog. It was good to see her again. I told her that I was so upset when they broke up and things seem to be in a good place for her and I am glad. It was a good visit. My son was aware of it and okay with it.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone is having a great Saturday and that the weather is just as nice there as it is here. I am so happy it is finally sunny and a touch warmer! YAY.
Got up this morning, met daughter at the Y, worked out for an hour..went shopping and then went to the park with the dog. 18,751 steps so far. :)
Going to meet my oldest son tonight to try and find him a nice suit for his graduation. I am so excited about that too. I love my family.
Talk to you all in a bit and thanks for all the stories and comments on the blog. I love hearing them.
Sacbarb: Wow, 8th grade would be such a horrible time to have an accident. I bet that was so devastating....! wow. It affects many people, because the people that have to witness that intense embarrassment never forget it either.

ReplyDeleteInteresting blog, BEBBI!! I would have a problem today if a teacher wouldn't let me go when I want to go. Kind of like a husband on a vacation that won't stop..
ReplyDeleteIf I was the parent of these children, I too would have been at that school full force, What an unnecessary embarrassment for a child or person to deal with any age.
ZONA: Are you feeling better and did you do what SACBARB told you to do?
I have been busy today visiting at lunch with a friend and now going to meet daughter and family for dinner. Seems like I am still eating --left over thoughts from last week.
Don't all of you think you are done hearing about my cruise because I haven't even told you any of it so be ready. I have posted the pictures on Facebook and My Space (for you J/L).
I hope everyone is have a good day. We are having Spring here so hey TINA, your snow missed us again today anyway!!
LYNN: I forgot to congratulate you on being first. I think you need to be every time until we get through St Pats Day so we can look at your green.
ReplyDeleteOk...now I am going to get ready for dinner. Bye...
Afternoon Glories!
ReplyDeleteWell I will say it. My husband is a genius! He has my computer up and running. He did not think he could do it but with alot of help from other websites he has detangled the monsters in my computer. I did not even lose any of my data. But I am still getting a new computer and we are going to send this one to Ritchies Mom.
Turns out this virus, bug, Trojan is very rampant. My Friend Angel's daughter has it on her computer too. My husband is going to fix it for her now that he knows how to do it.
So I am back and I don't have to share with anyone!!!! Wohoo! Going to go collect Leprechaun gold in a bit.
Deedee I agree with you. I am taking notes Dead fish, and wood shed. Also have trunk ready with blue tarp, axe and lyme. Always have a way to get rid of the body. LOL
LynnD What a beauty you are coming in first today. :) LOL @ being prepared to dispose of the body.
ReplyDeleteDianne Thank you for remembering me on MS. I'll check that out later.
Bebbi Thank you for the blog today. I can't say that my kids or I have ever encountered this problem but I would be livid if such a thing had happened to one of my kids. I guess I can understand if a teacher gets tired of those kids who want to use the restroom 5 minutes after returning from recess, however, I think some probably want to be able to do their pooping in private, not when others are in the restroom, too. I know I would.
Well, I am back nice day today for me. I hope the same goes for all of you.
ReplyDeleteLynnD: Yay for your hubby fixing the computer. It's really hard to clean out a virus..good job him.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely loved the cruise pictures, Dianne. It looks unbelievably fun. You looked great too. :)
ReplyDeleteDianne Loved your cruise pictures! Thank you for putting them on MS so I could see them, too. Are you ready to go again?
ReplyDeleteI have a bunch of letters I have to write to clients on behalf of the vet hospitals. I guess I better get to it being as my son and grandkids are off visiting a friend. Ah, the quiet! LOL I'll check back in later, Gators.
ReplyDeleteJ/L: I hope things are going okay for you. Glad you have some quiet for a bit. It must be quite an adjustment lately. You are a trooper!
ReplyDeleteuh oh..need to bulk it up some more before I head off to bed.

ReplyDeleteGood blog Bebbi! My only memory of the "pottie problem is when I went to kindergarten.I couldn't speak a word of English. I had to do a lot of crotch grabbing and wiggling to get my point across lol!
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for those who were ignored. It seems a little masochistic to ignore a child in need. I hope no child is still going through this. It makes me sad to think of it. I wish all our teachers were as patient and caring as our Jennifer!
I have unpacked, washed and put my laundry away.I know I will be cooking a large Sunday dinner tomorrow. These men folk of mine are all "fast fooded out". I have spoiled them lol!
Have a great Sunday everyone!
p.s. Jennifer, keeping your Hubby in my prayers, and crossing everything!
I peed my pants in Kindergarten, and still remember it to this day. It wasn't that the teacher wouldn't give permission, it was that we all feared her. She used to go into white-faced rages at the children in her classes. Unbelievable!
ReplyDeleteMARY, glad you are home safe and had a great time. You really got unpacked and cleaned up quick. It seems it takes me forever to get packed and then to get unpacked. I thought I would never finish laundry this week from the two of us.
ReplyDeleteGuess I will get in bed now too. I at least get to sleep in tomorrow.
Bebbi~ I don't remember having this problem when I was in school....but then again, I could hold it. A couple of my kids had accidents and I wasn't called. Of course, their dad was there. They don't make a big deal out of it there. I think a lot of the time, the parents go ape poop (gave up cussing, remember?) which causes the kids MORE trauma! AND, I've seen SO MANY kids have to go to the bathroom, have a tummy ache, have a headache, just to get out of class.....my own included. I remember working in the office at hubby's school, and this same little girl came to the office at the same time every day. We finally had to ask her what subject she was missing....math! Got that cleared up real quick~
ReplyDeleteLynnD~ Congrats on prettiest and the computer fix~ You may want to "reward" Mr LynnD!!!~ :D
75 NIGHT
ReplyDeleteJust came back from taking my daughter to the airport. I am going to try and get back to sleep. Good morning Owls!
