~ Out to Lunch ~

by Tina~in_ut

I went out to eat one Saturday afternoon, just me and my book. No kids or hubby to distract me. A little alone time…..I call it Tina-time. I was sitting in a little corner booth for two, right next to four girlfriends who hadn’t seen each other for a while. I can usually tune out everything around me, especially when I have a good book to read and a meal I love (Pei Wei). For some reason, these women caught my attention. I tried not to laugh when the one who had been married for a while (2 years), complained about her hubby. The engaged one couldn’t understand that! (she’ll find out!!!). The one without a boyfriend seemed to know everything (she has no idea)!! And then there was the one with the three kids. She just looked tired.

I tried to read my book, or at least look like I was. I did manage to eat. They started discussing having children. I couldn’t keep quiet when “engaged girl” said she really wanted to have twins. I almost spit out my diet coke when she said she thought it would be fun!! I told her what it was really like!!! And then some!! “Mother of three” just kept nodding her tired head. “No boyfriend” thought it couldn’t possibly be that bad!! With that I left their conversation. Well, I at least stopped talking to them! Lol~
The thing that really got me was that one of them, I can’t remember which one said it, but she said that she would love to be pregnant ….constantly pregnant. After she was done having her own kids, she’d love to be able to have other people’s kids. You know how some people just can’t get pregnant and all you want to do is help them, she wanted to grow and give birth to their baby. I told my friends and even my hubby the same thing a long time ago. As long as it wasn’t my egg or my husband’s sperm, and I was just the baby machine, it would be okay. The girls’ friends thought she was nuts, just like my friends thought I was nuts. I know that women are different and at the same time very much the same, but I never thought I’d ever hear someone else say something like that.

It was nice to see four good friends out for lunch catching up on each other’s lives just like I do with my friends and you do with yours. It made me think about all the women in the world, past, present and future that have done and will do this same thing…..sit around talking the way women do….the way women need to. Does that even make sense? I don’t think it’s the same with men.

It makes me even more excited about Chicago. We meet here each day to say hey, to insult, to seek and give advice, but to be able to sit around a table and share, laugh, and cry…..that will be fantastic. I sure hope none of you are axe murderers! I know Di and I aren’t. I’m not too sure about the rest of you~ We’ll soon find out, won’t we? :D

  2. Morning Glories!

    Congrats on first beautiful Bebbi!

Tina gee I can't imagine you jumping into a group of girlfriends conversation. LOL

Interesting to hear younger perspectives on marriage. Boy to be so young again and know it all. I learned a long time ago to never say never. Such as my husband will never, my children will never....it will come back and bite you in the ass.

I am not an axe murder yet...we will see what happens in Chicago tho. I can't imagine where I will hide the axe as it seems they are using those full body scanners now. Maybe they can find my belly button for me. It seems to have gotten lost over time.

  3. TINA...that was great. I find myself sometimes getting caught up in conversations around me, but I don't join in!! It is fun to get together with old friends and catch up. Chicago will be like that!

LYNN...OMG...that was hilarious...the body scanner to locate your belly button!!

    Waving to all above me.

I have to go into work for a few hours to make up lost time from leaving early for the holiday.

    BBL...

  4. Happy Saturday Owls.

    Bebbi, congrats on first.

Tina, I have often wanted to join a conversation I have overheard, but I never had the nerve. A couple years ago I went to Las Vegas with 6 elementary and high school chums. We were having lunch at one of the casinos and catching up on all our lives when two guys sitting next to us started talking to us. It was obvious they had been listening to our conversation. They were also in elementary school together and meeting up in Vegas after not seeing each other for 30 years. We ended up talking to them for over an hour.

When I was in high school, some of my friends and I would go to a cafe in Hollywood and pretend we were rich kids. We would drop names of young movie or TV stars and act like we really knew them so the people around us could hear us. All this while we shared one order of fries because that's all our pooled money would get us. Then we would leave and laugh ourselves silly because we thought we really had them snowed. Now when I think about it, they were probably laughing at us because they knew we were full of crap.

  5. Hi there Beautiful Bebbi,DeeDee,LynnD,& Mo!
    Today you are all beautiful!
I guess you can tell I am in a good mood today lol! It is a little misty and getting cool here in Mich, but the week has been so beautiful, that a little rain is welcome. We have been under a fire advisory because it has been so dry.
I am off to get a few gross-eries and make a Mex.meal for the big football game tonight, and my Easter Sunday meal.
    Have a great day all!!

LynnD,I roared when I read your belly button comment! I haven't seen that or my Va Jay Jay on years!!!

oops I forgot to comment on Tina's blog....
Tina, I remember thinking when I was about 15, that I would never have children...., that I would only adopt. I had no idea how babies were made even at that age! Well, 2 sons later, I know where for they come from! LOL!!!

    Barb,you are soooo beautiful
    too! :)

  9. Hi everyone!!!

When I saw the Event post for the gals in Chicago I wanted to click on "I'm going" so badly!!

I had the privilege of going to one a couple years ago at EBJ's beautiful home, got to meet some of the most fabulous women in the world, and a few equally fab men!!

I know you all will have a blast!

I want you all to know I would come in an instant if I could.

So, just have a couple shots of tequila for me, or a couple Mojito's or even just a beer, whatever strikes your fancy, and know I will be thinking of all of you!

Great blog today, too. I have gone out to eat alone, or with my Laurie quite a bit. At first it was quite scary, wondering if anyone was going to wonder why I was alone, and then I figured, oh heck, if I don't have a lunch date, I am going to miss out on some good food, so off I went.

And yes, I do listen to others conversations if I can do it without looking like I am eavesdropping. It's actually quite fun! Sometimes I hear things that are funny, sometimes sad, and then I feel bad for listening so I try to occupy myself other ways!

Have a wonderful Saturday, and for those having Easter celebrations, hope yours are lots of fun! And Happy Passover to Mo, too, of course!

    Peace, love & happiness,
    Donna Jean

  10. Great blog Tina! I agree, I am so excited about Chicago and I certainly hope it's safe too. I mean, my family depends on me so it would not be good if I went missing! I am sure it is the same with all of you from all our conversations on here.

  11. Wow. Tina went to lunch? And she read a book? What is the world coming to?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Bebbi you gotta be kidding... Nobody's going to annoy the Nuclear Fart Machine. You're perfectly safe.

Ah, I so wish I were going to be there, but I trust everyone else to give the rest of us the dish.

When does Lent end? Today or Sunday?

  13. I am stopping by to wish everyone a Happy Easter/Passover.

Lots of times I have turned to someone having a conversation and made a comment. When I do, somehow, I have a feeling it is okay. Sometimes I just look over and smile. I guess it isn't very different from blogging with people who we have never met in person. It just feels right.xo

  14. TINA - Great blog!! I thought I was the only one who would be willing to be the baby machine. Love being pregnant.....and seriously considered carrying a baby for my brother and his first wife if they would've asked. But alas, it was not to be. God sent me a message LOUD AND CLEAR that my idea was nuts!!!

Also perfect that this blog is about friends having lunch. Today my dear friend GOLDIE made a b'day lunch for me and her mother. It was a beautiful lunch!! Chicken or shrimp salad on croissants, fruit plate, veggie and cheese tray....and omg omg omg!!! The most gorgeous dessert tray!! Assorted Canolli's, cheesecakes, creme puffs....YUMMO!!!! THANK YOU 2 GOLDIE....not only for your friendship, but for sharing your awesome German mother with me ♥

  18. Tina..

Great blog.. I have on several occasions eves dropped on conversations around me, and I find them so interesting.. I often wonder after they leave, I wonder what will happen? and of course I never find out, its kinda like reading a good book but not knowing the ending. So I make up my own, and always make it a happy ending..

    Enjoy your writing..

and btw.. I am a serial killer not a axe murderer.. as a axe murderer is just to messy..

    :O)

  19. Oh and Tina..

No Thank You to the baby machine.. not my thing.. but hey, kudos to you for wanting to make millions of babies, I do love babies tho..

  20. Oh I love listening to other conversations when I am out. Sometimes I get so engrossed in other conversations I forget that I am with my husband. Now I will say this doesn't happen when i am with my girlfriends..I guess cause we are all so yakky. I talk to other tables when appropriate too TINA. GOOD blog and I can't believe you even took a picture of them...this is the table from "Pee Wee" right?

Everyone looks so ready to put on their Easter duds or Passover duds. I think we wear the same for the two holidays, right?

I got up and started reading the paper and fell back asleep for the whole afternoon...that is not what I had planned to do today. Now I am wide awake and ready to partay.......guess I will settle for going out to Mexican dinner and come home and get the next group of Grandkids baskets ready for tomorrow. We did Easter with my son and family last night.

I can vouch for TINA as not being a killer because she even stayed in our house and didn't try to kill us and by not cooking..I didn't try to kill her either. BEBBII, quit worrying...you will be fine.

Guess I had better go and clean up to go eat...heck it will be night pretty soon and I will be getting back into these pj's

  21. JODI: Glad you had a nice bday lunch with GOLDIE and how nice of GOLDIE to do that for you and her mother. The food sounds wonderful and of course the company was fun.

LYNN AND MARY: I wish I was going to be with you when you are going through this body scanner. I think I would have to be wearing my pull-ups I would be laughing so much.

SACBARB: I love your story about Hollywood.. How fun and I can just see myself doing that as a kid if I lived there. It was so much fun to pretend in those days, wasn't it? If we lived closer we could go there and do it again and we would probably be laughing just like teens.

MARY: Sounds like you are having a basketball party tonight. It makes me already wish for football when reading about your dinner etc.

  22. Ok....hello to everyone today and have a nice evening as I really do have to get dressed now!~!!

  23. Bebbi Congrats on being the fairest in the land (or nest) today.

LynnD LOL @ losing your belly button. I had a surgeon slice right through mine and it's never been the same since.

Mary Ah, the va jay jay! I haven't seen mine in years, either. Maybe I can make that a weight loss goal. I'll let you know when there is a sighting.

Hodi That sounds like a wonderful lunch. What a sweetheart Goldie is.

Tina I go to lunch alone all the time and take my book with me. I totally enjoy it. I have overheard some interesting conversations, too, and sometimes can't help but add my two cents.

Waving at DeeDee, Bonach, Mo, SacBarb, Donna Jean, Slan, and Carol.

  24. Waving at you, too, Dianne!

Thanks, you guys, for reminding me that I need to sharpen my blade before going to Chicago. LOL

  25. *GULP* Um, I may have a mysterious flu crop up right at the last minute..you know, I feel a little of it coming on now.

  26. BEBBI - I can vouch for JENNIFER, LOIS and GOLDIE....;) I think we're a pretty safe bunch. I think the most dangerous thing will be the worry of busting a gut laughing so freakin' hard!!! :O)

DIANNE - We just got back from Senor Peppers. I had never eaten there, but the food was great!! Enjoy your supper!!

MARY - Tough game....I yelled like hell for ya, tho!! (((hugs)))

  28. Jodi..I can only hope. :)

We did eggs tonight. It was really fun. We had chinese food before coloring eggs and my fortune made me cry..and made everyone else laugh at me. It said, "Love is just as important as food and shelter". So, I cried and then everyone laughed and then Hubby opened his fortune and acted like he was crying too when he read his and made everyone laugh more.

I love it when I have to pull the table out to fit more people around it. It makes me HAPPY!

  39. I guess I'm re-visiting my roots and being a real Night Owl tonight!

Mr. Z and I spent most of the day running errands, and then he was using the computer for a work project tonight. He's finally finished so I can comment..yay!

TINA: I seem to always have one ear open to what's being said by people around me in stores or restaurants. There are lots of times that I want to chime in..but wonder if I should. The hardest thing is not to supply an answer to a question I overhear one person ask another. I sometimes wonder if I have that "I know!! I know!!" look on my face..of course the jumping up and down with my hand raised in the air might give me away too.. ;)

BEBBI: There's that beautiful smile at FIRST! :)

CAROL: There's not an ax murderer among us..though there just could be a CEREAL killer..ya never know..that Cap'n Crunch could get on anyone's nerves..ijs.. ;)

LYNN: We still have belly buttons? ;)

MARY: Well, I know I have one of those.. ;)

JODI: Sounds like you had a great time today with GOLDIE and her family! Wish I could have fit in the tube.. ;)

BARB: When I was in high school my best friend and I would go play tennis at the local park. We would talk about how 'daddy' was resurfacing the clay courts at home, and that's why we had to play on a community court. We had spiffy rackets and clothes..and thought we had them all fooled. I wonder if they noticed the beat up old car we would leave in..lol..!

DIANNE: LOL @ Pee Wee..that was a fun night..the whole weekend was a blast!

J/LIN: I've been taking walks up to Jack in the Crack..buying a Diet Coke and just sitting down and reading my magazine. I kinda people watch out of the corner of my eye. I don't think I'll ever finish that magazine! ;)

MO: Loved our Twilight Zone moment!! :D

Mr. Z and I are now going to color Easter eggs..yes, I know it's late..but that's how we roll.. ;)

    Happy Easter and Passover!

    G'night..Sweet dreams..
