~ Graduation Day~

by Tina~in_ut

I can't believe this day has arrived.  I truthfully thought it never would.  I never pictured my sweet little boy graduating from High School and going off to college.  I'm not ready.  I never prepared for it.  I thank God for every day I have with him, but I'm kind of in denial.

Thursday night was his Baccalaureate Mass at the Cathedral.  That is him with the black collar processing out of the church in the video.  And yes, he did wink at me.  We weren't supposed to take pictures or video....but I couldn't help it.  We can purchase the DVD of that and the graduation, but I wanted a little something NOW!!!!

After the main part of the mass, the Principal stood up and gave out the academic awards.  My friend and I laughed and consoled each other because our boys didn't get any.  Then they called all the names of the kids who were on the high Honor Roll.  They were called in alphabetical order.  When we got past my friends' last name, I'm sorry to say, I was glad that we'd still be in the same boat!  But then, miracle of miracles, Ryan's name was called.  I can't tell you how proud that made me.  I only cried a little bit.  I think I'm saving it all up for the actual graduation.

I'll leave you with what I wrote to him in his yearbook:

Ryan
Class of 2010

Congratulations Ryan!  It has been a joy to watch you grow into the incredible young man you have become.  Eighteen years has gone by so fast.  You have worked hard, but still managed to keep your sense of humor.  Wherever life takes you, always remember that we love you!

Tomorrow is the BBQ @ my house.. kinda dreading it.. it is soooo much work.. but its gonna be done, my parents love it...

Today the IS's are having a BBQ @ my house for their friends.. (their house is having some work done, so they can't have it there).. Not sure how many ppl or what the heck they have planned but they are doing everything.. I just worry about the drinking and the driving, but when I spoke to them they said they have is all under control.. I'll tell ya this if I see someone you I think can't drive, I will certainly drive them anywhere they have to go..

    This should be interesting..

Carol So happy to see you posting. Gives my day some Yellow! Have fun at the bbq's!

Tina it seems like when you are getting your kids through the school years that it takes forever and then all of a sudden they are graduating and BAM you wonder where the hell did the time go? I am so happy for your Son and your family. This is a special time to celebrate that passage into adult hood.

PS Now the real parental worrying begins. :)

  10. Happy Sunday Owls.

DeeDee, BAM right back at ya.

Tina, Congrats to Ryan and to you and Mr. T for getting him to this point. I remember thinking at each of my sons' graduation how quickly the years went by, although at times I wasn't sure I would let any of them live til that day.

Is he going away to college or will he be going to a local college? I only have one that went to college and he started at the local Community College. My husband died during his first year and I didn't encourage him to take a lot of classes because I knew he wanted to go to San Diego State and I wasn't ready for that. So it took him 4 years to get a 2 year degree and that was OK with me. I would tell people he was on the 4 year plan. By that time, I was better prepared to be by myself.

    BTW, the Cathedral is beautiful.

  11. Carol, You seem a little less stressed. I bet the mani and shopping helped. Have fun at the BBQs.

Lynn, Thanks for the info on Goldie.

Mary, It is so nice that you will be feeding the military personnel.

I hope everyone has a good rest of the weekend. I'll just be chillin' here, checking my farms and cafe.

  13. Tina, congrats! It must be such a proud moment!

Carol: You'll have a great BBQ! We just did one for 16 last night, and everyone had a great time.

OK, I'm off to hydrate a little more!

  14. DeeDee Congrats on your being first today. My, you are stunning!

    Carol Yay! BBQ! Have fun!

LynnD I hope you are having a nice relaxing day.

Mary Thank you for all you do for our current and veteran military people.

SacBarb I don't know how you have time to have a cafe, too. This farming takes so much time!

Bear I'm glad you are having such a good time in PS.

Bonach I was so tired last night that I forgot to thank you for your blog. I'm glad you have reconnected with your friend. It sounds like Don Juan may be the brother you never had. Either that, or you two are flirting in a "safe" way. ;)

Tina It is hard to see your child leave his childhood behind and enter adulthood. I know you are very proud of him, though, and that he is well equipped to handle anything that life throws at him, especially when he has a well developed sense of humor. Wonder where he got that from?

  15. Happy Sunday!

Loved the video Tina, and I think I saw a little smile on Ryan's face as he walked past you! He is very handsome :)

    The cathedral is absolutely gorgeous.

I slept in til 8:30 which is very late for me, it felt great.

I'm doing laundry now, and have a housewarming party to go to this afternoon.

Supposed to be 86 here today!

Carol, enjoy the party today with the boys! That should be fun and interesting!

Congrats on 1st today Dee Dee :)

Hi Mary, Barb, Lynn, JL, Bear, have a nice Sunday :)

  16. Thanks, Judy! I hear the weather's pretty good back home this weekend, too!

SacBarb: Indeed. I wish I could hug iteach today.

J/L: Thanks for asking about the weekend in A51! The BBQ last night was a hit! I've learned to bake chicken thighs in the oven and then just put them on the upper level of the grill for a few minutes. They drip so much that any other approach gets them burned.

And later on, we're off to an afternoon pool party. Fun!

Have a great day, everybody! Carol, how's the planning going for your BBQ?

  17. Congratulations Ryan!

TINA: Time moves so quickly! It wasn't that long ago that you were worrying about your son getting his Learner's Permit..and here he is graduating from high school! Ryan is an amazing young man. He has the world at his feet and I know he will be successful at whatever he chooses to do. I know how very proud you are of him. I hope you and Mr T are proud of yourselves as well..you've raised three wonderful kids!

Sweet blog today TINA..great video..thank you!

DEEDEE: You are the very picture of beauty today!

CAROL: Have a wonderful time at your bar-b-ques..have a little nibble of something juicy for me! ;)

GOLDIE: I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. I know all about the falling over the dog thing..they seem to be good at tripping us up..don't they? I hope you heal quickly and aren't in too much pain.

J/LIN: You should have seen all the plowing SACBARB did last night..I couldn't keep up with her! ;)

SACBARB: I hope you didn't have blisters this morning.. ;)

BEAR: Enjoy the heat..and the heat! ;)...:D

Just have a minute to congratulate Ryan on his graduation, soooo...

    RYAN...CONGRATULATIONS!

  33. TINA: What a great sneaking video. Is it a sin to do that in church when they tell you not to? I think your son was looking right at you. I am sure the day was exciting for all of you. I remember when my son graduated and I had the one of the new video cameras..the kind that sat on your shoulder. I taped him through the whole thing. When we got home to watch it....it wasn't my son!!! Guess they looked the same in those caps and gowns out on the field.

Your son has an exciting future ahead of him and now you will be one less at home. Who is going to do the chores he usually does for you? Maybe you need to adopt a teen to help out and so you won't miss have three teenagers at home. Seriously, congratulations to you and your family.

Been with the girls all day and we went to see Letters from Juliet, shopping (GD got a new phone and I got a new camera) and just got home so hello to all the owls.

Sending good thoughts and hugs to everyone. GOLDIE or JODI....what are your injuries? I'm so sorry to hear about your fall.

Take care all of you and nighty night.

  34. Well, it looks as if Tina's the proud parent of a graduate.... I've not read today's comments yet; just noticed I missed my own blog. We were literally, in the middle of nowhere; no phones, no computers, no showers and a small generator for electrical "emergencies".

I'm just back and showered. Looks like that black under my eyes isn't mascara that wore off after all. I'm a raccoon.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Well, there you have it... Tina's got a halo with her graduate, and it did not escape me that my blog was published on Slutty Saturday.

Don Juan is about as likely to be a flirtation for me as Ernest Hemingway, whom I believe has been dead a number of years. I don't believe in flirting. I just give it up. You all know that :D.

DeeDee, I know how you feel about being pretty, so congrats on 1st. You're ugly. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  36. TINA - You also cracked me up by changing the names of the innocent!!

DIANNE - I've been wanting to see Letters to Juliet. How was it? And it was GOLDIE that fell.

BONACHICHI - Raccoon, eh? That's really roughing it....I'm not sure I would appreciate it that rough ;)

SHIRLEY - My, what big boobies you have!!
