I Didn't Know I Was Dead

by Bonachichi

I have a girlfriend I’ve known since 9th grade. She was the best friend I’ve ever had.  She left school and we went on with our lives. Some time ago, I heard a hysterical woman screaming, “You’re alive!!” Then I found myself in a bear hug with a woman who seemed familiar to me, but I couldn’t quite place her. It was Cassie (name altered to protect her), and I hadn’t seen her since I was in the 10th grade.
There was a lot of crying on her part, a lot of reassurance on my part that yes, I was most definitely alive as far as I knew. She said she’d seen my sister about 20 years ago and asked after me. Good ol’ sis told Cassie that I was dead. I never knew this. Over the years, Cassie drove her kids to my childhood home to show her kids where the best friend she ever had had once lived. Cassie is an emotional sort, and I can only imagine the turmoil she must have gone through.
So now that I was officially alive again, we rekindled our friendship. I adored her brother and mother. I don’t remember her dad from back then; only that he’d won some award for a movie with a shark and it intimidated me somewhat. We now spend a lot of time together. Cassie’s Mum used to carry around a can of Lysol and spray people she didn’t like. I never got sprayed and considered that an honor. That woman always made me laugh.
I spend a lot of time with Cassie, her brother and her Mum now. There was just one thing missing and I couldn’t put my finger on it. Not until Mum Cassie sprayed me with Lysol and said, “That’s for making us think you were dead all these years!” That was it. I’m now part of the family. As for my sister, they’ve agreed to pay to have that broomstick surgically removed from her arse if she ever sets foot in California again.
Two questions pop into my mind about this blog. First, is it normal to have a friend who means the world to you? Like the other half of you? And second why would my sister tell people I’m dead? I’ve seen people who don’t get along with their siblings, but not to the point where they tell people their sister is dead. It just seems beyond hurtful, spiteful and frankly, crazy.

  1. Bonachichi~ ur sister should be punched!!! ijs~

is it just me, or does anyone else find the QOTD and the person who submitted it, ironic~ i know it's not funny....but dang it made me chuckle~

    ReplyDelete
  2. Tina, how do you do it? Day in, day out...haha.

Bonacci: How horrible, why would your sister do that? That is crazy.

Good morning everyone who comes in after. Have a great Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Tina: Why is it ironic? Did J/L kill her hubby too?

    ReplyDelete
  4. and speaking of chuckle....left work early yestiddy in order to spend the afternoon in the ER...hubby was in a car accident...after all is said and done, he's fine.....but he's worried that the car is totaled!~ Good thing he was driving the one he was, tho~ When the doc came and told him there was no internal bleeding and he was going to be okay....hubby was so relieved and grateful....and Mo....that's when i told him about your "sister!" I hope she's going to be okay~

and p.s.~ NO HUGS for me or the hubby!!! YA HEAR ME?!!~

    ReplyDelete
  5. *hugs* for tina and her hubby. Glad he's okay..*grin*

  6. Tina: I always find it interesting to hear that someone was driving a different car than normal, etc. when having an accident and it saved their life..makes me believe even more in divine intervention. Yay, so glad he's ok.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Oh...we KNOW God took care of him...the other car had 2 little kids in it....smashed...t-boned...and they were all fine~ Thank God~ They had just moved here from Georgia and were lost. Poor things.

  8. Morning Glories!

Tina you are pretty this morning! So glad hubby is ok!!!

Bonachichi I would say your sister is all of the above. I do wonder what did you do to piss her off? Crazy does not even do justice as a description.

Mo thinking about you today. I say don't borrow trouble until you have a real diagnosis. One day and step at a time. Sending up healing thoughts for your cousin.

    Morning Bebbi!

  9. I should have known it was going to snow today....My in-laws are flying in this afternoon...always snows when they come~ ugh!!!~ (ugh to the arrival....not the snow!)

  10. Tina: Wow, thank goodness they were okay too. Also, do it, do it, do it. Yes, just do it..just take care of that hubby cause he might be sore *grin*.

  11. Morning LynnD!! Good to see you! :)

    Mo: Thinking of you too.

  12. Divine intervention!! Pulease!! That family of four was drunk!!

What is it about wrecks (not Tinas huzbands of course) that makes people exaggerate so?? (rolls eye)

Here are some popular quotes...."The Lord wasn't ready for me yet"....or the classic ..."the doctor said I am lucky to be alive"....and..."witnesses said they don't see how anyone walked away from that"....

then you see the vehicle....and theres no visible damage....

I say the next time you scare me by telling me that there has been a car accident...somebody had better be dead or badly maimed....

Moving on to todays blog....it is just easier many times to say someone is dead rather than go into some big explanation about they're lives...I mean..sometimes you just don't feel like doing that much talking....so its easier just to say the person is dead....

If you are a busy person....and in the scheme of things...are a multi-tasker as well....this can be a real time saver....

I personally think it is funny to tell people that someone is dead...especially if you know they will be entering the room momentarily.....then you can scream....

    ITS A MIRACLE!!

    ReplyDelete
  13. oh that's right....YOU did that to ME!!!!! "Oh....she's dead!" Then her picture was in the newspaper! I don't seem to remember saying "It's a miracle!" I seem to remember calling you a bad name and you didn't talk to me for a week!!!!!!!~

oh...and I'm so lucky to still have my hubby! It could have been so much worse~ :)~

  14. DeeDee: LOL!

Bonachichi: Regarding the other thought you were pondering. It's nice to have a friendship like that, you are so lucky! :)

Interesting blog chichi, and it is great u reconnected with a friend but why would a sister do that to you? Are u even friends with ur sister?

TINA: hugs to u and husband and so glad he is okay as well as the others Very scary. How nice that u will have company to visit u for what a week or two? Sounds lie a busy week for u with graduation and everything.

  19. Happy Monday Owls.

Tina, OMGosh, I am so glad your Hubby is OK. He is so lucky to be alive. I guess the Lord wasn't ready for him yet. I heard a witness say she doesn't see how he walked away from that. Big (((HUGS))) to your whole family. Oh yeah, and congrats on first.

P.S. Does this mean another new car for the Tina family?

    ReplyDelete
  20. Bonachichi, Interesting blog. I guess one explanation of why your sis would say that is what DeeDee said, or she just doesn't like you. Why don't you just ask her? And while you're at it, you might want to ask her who else she told that to.

I feel very lucky to have a friend who means the world to me. I would do almost anything for her and I believe she would for me also.

  21. Bebbi, WTC are you talking about?

    DeeDee, LOL

    Di, Safe travels.

Lynn, My computer has 21 comments on the front and 15 here. The same thing happened the other night. I think it was on Bebbi's blog about handmade things.

  26. Okay, who's stealing the comments?

Tina I think I'm missing some of your comments. You are still beautiful in first. Btw, the irony was def not lost on me. I chuckled, too. Oh, and super big (((HUGS))) from me. Seriously, so glad the hubby is going to be fine. That must have been scary.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I guess everyone thinks I have gone off the deep end today..haha.

Sorry about that..it's a Monday, what can I say, I am weird and there's a party going on in my brain that no one understands. :)

  28. Bonachichi I'm really glad you were able to reconnect with your girlfriend from school. I have no answers as to why your sister would have told her that. I assume she is harboring a lot of anger and resentment towards you.

I'm still in touch with my best friend from school but we don't communicate as often as we should. Whenever we do manage to get together, though, it's as if no time has passed. We still "click" and she is very dear to me.

    Dianne How's your butt?

LynnD I like your term "don't borrow trouble". I tend to get ahead of myself and do that sometimes.

SacBarb, DeeDee, and Bebbi Y'all are cracking me up in your own special ways.

  34. It's more difficult to develop and manintain close relationships as adults, I think. We all have so much to do (like farming) that it's hard to find time to spend with friends. Lani is my best friend in my adult life and her support and friendship has meant more to me than she will ever know.

  36. J/L: I have good friends that I have had from living different places. I know if I would have stayed in one place they would have been close always. It's hard when you move around too. I have been here 15 years and have 3 really close friends. 2 are female friends and one is like a female friend...! It feels so good to grow roots. I appreciate it a lot. Friends are truly a blessing.

When I lived in Houston I had a couple of very close friends. One I keep in contact with and the other I can't find. In Virginia, I had one very close friend with whom I keep in contact with...she was my best friend ever. I love that woman. In high school I have two close friends, one of whom I keep in touch with and the other one I do not. I love all my friends forever and always.

  41. Hi!

BONACHI: Sometimes family members do strange and hurtful things. According to my brother..he had no family. I guess he thinks he was hatched. I've given up trying to understand him.

I've known my best friend since second grade. We've been through a lot together and I think of her as my sister. My mom considered her her daughter..as her mom did with me. I think if you have one truly good friend like this in your lifetime..you are blessed.

TINA: No hugs? How about a big [[SQUEEEEZE]] for you and Mr. T? I'm very glad that he is ok. :)

..and btw..you look beautiful surrounded by all that SNOW!! :D

BEBBI: Forgettable? Not a chance! :) I have one of those parties in my brain every once in a while too.. ;)

DEEDEE: I was confused about the QOTD discussion too..I see DI's traveller's butt up there right now..the comment I mean.. ;)

    DI: Have a safe trip home..and remember..black licorice.. ;)

    SACBARB: LOL!!

J/LIN: "We have so much to do..like farming.." :D

LYNN: On any given day..aren't we all? LOL!

It's a gorgeous day here..in the high 70's..it won't last for long so I'm going to get out of this house for a while and enjoy it..have a nice day everyone!!

Tina...on the other hand....has almost completed her 3 year probation with me...not without more than a few snafu's mind you...but at this point I assume she will be retained....

TY Bebbi and Zona for your observations (the rest of your ostrich topiaries will be arriving soon).....

See though....Bebbi sees "kill one husband" and Zona sees "travelers butt".....

is QOTD regional...or are different things being seen by all....thats all I am wondering.... I see "travelers butt"....

    ReplyDelete
  45. DeeDee: No, I saw "kills" this morning and but have seen "travelers" the rest of the day. I think the QOTD Fairy came late today.

I am glad that Tina made it through the three year probationary period. That is very exciting for her. I am sure she is so thrilled! Right, Tina?

  50. Hello everyone; I'm sorry I've not been around... still on my super-secret adventure.

My sister doesn't like me. I was born on her 1st birthday. No trouble though, cuz nobody likes my sister. She and I don't have anything in common,so we rarely contact each other. No troubles. I found my friend and that's what's important. I'll try to check in later.

  51. TINA- ((((((((((HUGS))))))))))

Seriously, I am glad your husband and the occupants of the other car are alright.

    DEEDEE-ROFLMBO @ "real time saver"

MO-I am so sorry your cousin is in such ill health. Even though I don't blog a lot I always think of all of you who are ill or have ill family and friends.

BONACHI-Do you know why your sister holds you in such contempt? Did your friend try to contact your children after she heard the news?

Slin is my best friend. There was something about her I always liked when I knew her as a client before she came to work at the hospital. I used to tease her like crazy all of the time and then one day I gave her flowers to make up for all of the teasing.

  60. For everyone wondering why my sister holds me in such contempt, the answer is, "I don't know". Our mutual friends say she was always jealous of me... I don't know why. She was the cute cheerleader type and I was the awkward geek.

One thing I WAS, was nice to people. My sister wasn't exactly a good friend according to some of her former friends. I've learned to live with that.

I am trying to stay in contact.... I think I'll have an easier time of it tomorrow, but be assured this is truly an adventure. And I hope to be able to tell you all about it very soon.

Thank you everyone, for your comments. Let's all be thankful for close family members and good friends. They're such a gift!

  63. Bona, I am sad to read your blog and that your sister told people you are dead.

I cannot imagine how I'd feel if one of my brothers did that.

At least you are back in touch with your good friend!

My best friend and I don't see each other too often, we keep in touch tho. We met in high school.

MR. EBJ and I were both off this past Friday, and we had a very nice visit and lunch with Seaside Lady and her son.

It was good to catch up with her, it's been a while since we've gotten together.

I caught up on a couple days blogs last night. Dee's post about her friend Lisa was so touching and made me think of how she must feel, being in control and doing things her way.

As we know, lots of people don't get to do that.

Looking forward to DWTS and the Bachelorette tonight!

TINA...{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}} to you and Mr. Tina. I'm glad he is ok. And you have your in-laws there to help you take care of him...how lucky you truly are ;)~

DI...your butt is the talk of the town! How fun!

I couldn't ever imagine telling anyone someone is dead that isn't. I can't even fathom it.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I spent three hours at the hospital tonight. Mostly wishing I was somewhere else. Anywhere else. I couldn't get a straight answer out of Joanne...either she doesn't know, is confused, in denial or lying. And when she told me that this is then end, my heart dropped. When she asked for a pencil and then told me now she could write her suicide note I almost lost it. I kept looking at the door for someone to come and relieve me and nobody came. I got a few answers from the nurse and she bluntly said that if Joanne wants to refuse diagnostic tests or treatment she can and "I" should tell her to tell the docs that and they will let her go to live her life to the end. "I" should tell her that??? NO FUCKING WAY.

Her nephew (another cousin) was supposed to draw up the medical POA so one of her sisters can call the docs and get information straight from the horses mouth and they still haven't been signed. I called him tonight and ripped him a new asshole. He's taking the papers in tomorrow morning.

I can't deal with this. I did it with my mom and the situation is so similar. I am still haunted wondering if I made the right decisions for her and I CAN'T be responsible for Joanne. I also can't sit back and not have things taken care of for her. WHY DO I HAVE TO???

I am calling the hospital Social Worker tomorrow and gonna rip her a new asshole, too.

Don't mess with me concerning those I love.

I will delete it if you want me to

  68. J/L~ I can't remember what you said, but you cracked me up so badly today~ SO GLAD you have the sense of humor you do~

DeeDee~ I regret to inform you that YOUR three year probation is almost up and things don't look good from where I sit!!! For instance, where is my bracelet?!!~

Di~ why don't you have the Mr work on ur butt before he leaves~ ija~

my in-laws are here.....i'm in bed!!!!!!! I did get to watch the series finale of LOST before they got here.....i'm gonna miss that show~

    I guess I should say goodnight~ goodnight! :)~

    ReplyDelete
  69. LYNN...I try not to borrow trouble, but it really doesn't look good. Damn WebMD! Tonight they found blood in her stool again. And if she wont let them continue diagnosing, then we will never know. If she wants to die, then it is her choice that we have to respect. But I wish she would get the answers before she decides that.

shit, fuck, damn, son of a bitch...I hate this

    ReplyDelete
  70. Mo~ ya gotta let her take charge~ It's her life!~ No matter how much it hurts you~ kwim?~

you reminded me....got a call from my sis tonight...dad has a bad "rash" on his hands, feet, and now his butt. He went to see the oncologist today and was told it's a fungus and to see a dermatologist. it doesn't itch.....it hurts....he can't sit or lay down w/o hurting~ mom wants him off the chemo now...he just started his fourth cycle today!!!~ My sis and I want him to go thru this last one....butt in the end (pun intended), it's his choice~

    ReplyDelete
  71. TINA...I would gladly let her take charge...but I don't think right now she is capable. And not letting them even find out what she really has is not the best decision making. At least my mom allowed the docs to find out what she had.

I know we have to let her go if she wants to. I wish she would at least let us make palliative care available to her...for her own comfort and dignity in her last days if that is what is in store.

  73. Goodnight lovely ladies!

Mo: My heart goes out to you. You are such a strong and compassionate woman, that is what makes you unable to just sit on the sidelines and Joanne is lucky to have you. Your strength is truly a gift. You will do what you need to do and God Bless People like you!!

  74. Tina: have fun with the in laws..how lovely. (whisper: I had a feeling DeeDee was a little mixed up on things, thanks for clarifying...she's a bit out of sorts, eh?)

All: Goodnight for real this time.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Tina, you never looked lovelier (really)! I am writing a note to your wonderful in laws telling them your wish to have them stay a month or more.I am sending it to your address, make sure they get it ;-)
    Glad Hubby is OK!

Bonachi,Your sister has a warped sense of humor. I wonder if it started out to be a joke and she went to far to go back. Not nice either way!
I have to say I did the same thing (not the lie)a while ago. I saw a lady friend of mine in the grocery store. I almost fainted! I grabbed her and said "your alive"! I had seen what I thought was her obit a few months ago. Too many "----Smiths out there lol!"

    MO,Hang in there kiddo. Emotions are running high. It is understandable. A lot of older people are terrified of not having control of anything as they get on in years. I would have a long talk with her care givers and see where she stands. If there is hope, any hope I would explain it to her. It may be what she needs to hear. If not, you will have no choice but to respect her wishes. I have been though this with both my parents. Easier said then done {{hugs}}

Bebbi, I was lazy to day. I did get my teeth cleaned and my oil changed (in my car Tina!)

Diane,I hope things get "moving" soon lol! "PUSH"!!!!

  77. Dear sweet Mo, It is so hard to know what to do when faced with situations like this. You see something that needs to be done and you do it, but you shouldn't have to do it alone. My prayers are still with you and your family. (((HUGS))) too. ♥
