~12 Step Program Of Recovery For Web Addicts~

by Tina~in_ut

1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my PAPER newspaper like I used to, before the Web.

2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one hand typing.

3) I will get dressed before noon.

4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash clothes, and plan dinner before even thinking of the Web.

5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few friends and family that are Web-deprived.

6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via the Web.

7) I will read a book... if I still remember how.

8) I will listen to those around me about their needs and stop telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music on the Web.

9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.

10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week, if it is necessary or not.

11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Web.

12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed sometime... and the Web will always be there tomorrow!

Is this sad or what? The ONLY thing on here that I already do is read.......in the bathroom.....when I don't bring in the laptop!!! Last night, I couldn't even be bothered to get my butt up and put in ONE load of laundry. I need help!!!!!!!~  Hey.....does my butt look bigger to you?~

    Morning DeeDee!

Tina it is rather sad what we put off doing to sit at the computer for hours. But then again you wouldn't be able to tell us how stunning you look everyday either. So I guess we have to take the good with the bad!

I'm waiting for a courier delivery and then I'm off to mum's. Not sure if I'll go grocery shopping today or not. Maybe...I am out of bananas. See ya all later!!

  7. Good Morning!

TINA: You know if you need some more time to read..you could always take a break from farming for..say..two weeks or so..no one would take advantage of that.. ;)

I made a concerted effort to catch up on my reading this week. I read the newspaper..did you know that June 7th was a Monday? Oh, and I started reading some of the Entertainment Weekly mags that are sitting here. The first ever 'Sex and the City' movie is just beginning filming in NYC! George Clooney has a new movie coming out..I think the title is 'Michael Clayton' and look at this..Johnny Depp is going to be starring in 'Sweeney Todd'. This magazine is just full of useful information! It says that Robert Goulet isn't feeling well..Get Well Soon Bob!! The date on the magazine? Nov 2007..JODI you were just a baby!! :D

Maybe I should take a break from the computer now and then..my eyes have been burning like crazy lately. Ok..it's settled..I'm turning off the computer..right after I check my farms..and my email..oh and.. ;)

TINA: Thanks for trying to give first away..You're not only pretty, sexy, hot, humble and tall..but generous too! ;D

Happy Happy Birthday to your eldest..I hope he has a wonderful day..and gets everything he wishes for! :)

    DEEDEE: Why only sorta?

SHIRLEY: Good Morning Sunshine! Have a good visit with your mom!

I made dinner last night..and boy did I get sick. I'm thinking I better not cook for DIANNE while she is recouperating after all. Although Mr Z was ok. DIANNE..let me know what you think.. ;)

Really do have to go do some laundry..Have a nice day everyone!!

  8. Tina Not only are you the prettiest and the sexiest, but you are also the funniest. :D I can definitely relate to some (most) of these. #3, not getting dressed before noon, is definitely true most days and is a direct result of #12 because I am up so freakin' late tending farms and homesteads! Then there are is #4; that's a no-brainer that the house isn't getting cleaned like it should be. And then there is #11; the bills sitting on the dining room table that I meant to deal with last night and the bank statements that I have not reconciled in 2 MONTHS! Normally, I'd do that within a day or two of getting the statement. Not bragging, but to my credit, I get out of the house almost every day. : )

DeeDee LOL @ your little, sorta bam.

Shirley That reminds me of an old, old song lyric: Yes, I have no bananas. LOL

Zona LMBO @ your reading material. Maybe you are just a little bit behind in that regard. Also, maybe the housecleaning has suffered just a tad. ;) Sorry you were sick last night. Hope you're feeling all better today.

  9. Happy Tuesday Owls.

Tina, All I can say is "My name is Barb, and I have discovered the Web." Now everyone say "Hi Barb" and we can have our coffee and cookies. :)

BTW, I think it is just the pants that make your butt look that way. I echo Zona's comment about your hotness and humility.

  10. I want to thank all of you who kept good thoughts and said prayers for my youngest, because HE GOT A JOB! Whew! He is so lucky that it happened so quickly and I am sooooo happy.

Dee, Wear your fire retardant undies and you'll be OK.

Shirley, I hope you Mum is doing well and is comfortable.

Zona, What did you cook that made you sick? I hope you get better quick. I've got facilities you need to work. :)

Have a good day everyone. BBL

  13. J/LIN: The thing that bugs me the most about being so behind on the newspapers is when I see an ad and think "OHHHH..what a great sale!!" only to realize I missed it by 2 weeks!! I read all but two of the papers this morning..the magazines will take me a teensy bit longer to get through!!

    btw...my house isn't too bad..just a little dusty..but then, it is AZ.. :D

SACBARB: I made fajitas..they tasted really good..the first time..not so good the second.. :P

Canton is adorable! I 'liked' right away! :)

  14. Just wanted to drop in and say Hi. TINA....my name is JODI....and I'm TOTALLY an addict!! lmbo ;)

Kinda a sad day here. This morning I found out that one of Sam's friends was killed in an accident yesterday....along with her two passengers. She was on an interstate hwy and hit a construction cone, overcompensated and went headon into the other lane of traffic. It has really shook me up today (especially since it is so close the anniversary of my brother's death).

I'm getting off the computer now. I hope everyone has a good Wednesday. :O)

  15. Jodi I'm so sorry about Sam's friend and her passengers. Big (((HUGS))) to you both.

  16. SacBarb I think you're a lost cause when you don't even know what day it is. LOL

  18. Jodi sorry to hear about Sam's friend and the other two passengers. (((HUGS))) to you and Sam. It's so sad when young people die.

  19. Went to get my bananas and a few other things, then I went to mum's. She was very tired today. Didn't really want lunch but she drank a glass of Boost (one of those drinks that is suppose to have all kinds of good stuff in it) and then she asked for a few french fries, so I cooked her some of those. I did up the dishes for her and then we watched "The Young and The Restless" that she got me hooked on. Good grief, who thinks up those story lines!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Tina I forgot to answer your question about your butt. Could you clarify it a bit first though...bigger than what?

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think your butt looks fine~but I don't have my glasses on....LOL

    Hi Hooters!!!

Got nothin~ just wanted to pop in.

    SacBarb- yeah for your son.

Zona- I bet you can cook just fine!

Jodi- give Sam hugs from me when you pick her up.

Shirley, years ago I was addicted to All my Children. It was like a drug.... crazy storylines and all.

J/L- Is there a problem with not getting dressed until noon? I kinda like that some days.... :)

tina~ I am an addict and know it. HOWEVER, I refuse to get hooked on farming, raising fish, building anything or playing with the Mafia!

That said, I am totally hooked on watching the bears in Ely MN on the bear cam.

DeeDee- you are looking lovely today. A little younger too!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi...Yea SACBARB, I am so glad that your son was able to get a job so fast. There is one thing off your mind for the day.

JODI: I am very sorry about the loss of Sam's friends. It is such a sad thing to have happen to anyone but especially these young kids.

I still have one room left and then I am totally done with this house. Surgery almost cancelled but it is once again on for tomorrow. I will be checking my blackberry so will talk to you all soon.

Hello to everyone that has posted and will as I don't have time to list each person today.

Up is down and down is up. That's how I feel today. I think that means I get first! BAM DAMN I am beautiful.

I am not an addict dammit. I generally get dressed before noon, I leave the house, I read all the time. I won't comment on the housework.

Congrats to Tina's 18 year old!

  36. Hello Hooters! A web addict... you know, I was just reading about how heavy internet usage is linked to depression. I don't know whether you go to the internet when you're depressed or if you become depressed from going to the internet. File that under, "Data That Sucks".

I'm always online, even when I'm not home. The internet for the most part, is where I work.

Tina, if you put your butt into perspective say, of a continent, it's not big at all. I had to say it. I just couldn't resist.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Uh, wait. I've been called a workaholic before, so maybe I do have a problem. It's such a nifty tool, though! You can put your foot in your mouth with just a few keystrokes, as I just did with my comment about Tina and a continent (you know I was joking!).

I found out the three possible reasons that Ernie wipes his arse on the carpet all the time. I even learned how to "express canine anal glands", which turned out to be the reason for the arse-wiping. Unfortunately, I chose the path of least resistance first; he also got wormed and suffered the humiliation of having me trim his arse hair.

  38. Happy Wednesday!

Jodi, I'm so sorry to hear of Sam's friend.

There was a very bad accident here last week, a 19 year old girl lost control of her car and crossed the median, hitting a Harley head on.

She survived but killed the 2 people on the Harley. She will have to live with that and she is so young.

Tina, happy birthday to your son! Hope he had a fun day today! :)

My employer has gone completely on line. We do all our charting on the computer, all patients records are computerized, I love it!

If you want to get a copy of your records, you can get a little plug-in for your USB port and it can be downloaded. It is a great thing to take along if you are traveling.

Last year, MR. EBJ and I both got Iphones. I did not want one initially as I seldom used my cell phone. I had an old Nokia clunker that served it's purpose and was very reliable.

Well the Iphone goes to bed with me every night so I can read email or play slot machine game! haha

I can look at Face Book or read the nest.

I feel naked if I forget it!

We spent a couple hours in the pool this afternoon, it was refreshing and it felt good to get a little sun, plus exercise.

Shout out to Dee Dee, Shirley, Zona, JL, SacBarb, Goldie, Dianne, Carol, Lynn, Bebi, and Bona!

    ReplyDelete
  39. EBJ; you bring up an interesting point. I morally despise PDAs such as Blackberry, Droid and iPhone. I know it's just my opinion and I am in the minority, but checking your PDA whilst having a conversation with someone is completely and utterly rude. When people do that to me, I just leave. If they are so important that they can't pull themselves away from their precious texting, tweets and e-mails, then they certainly don't have time for me.

I also hate those stay-at-home-SUV-driving bitches who can't seem to detach the goddamn cell phones from their cud-chewing motor-mouths long enough to ensure the safety of their kids, my kids and me. Let them run into a brick wall for all I care, as long as nobody else gets hurt.

Of course, I am not bitter. Not at all. And to all those sweet moms I ram at the grocery store because they are paying more attention to the very important conversation they are having than to where they are going, "I'm SO sorry!"

That felt good. Anyway, I know I've been guilty of doing all these things as well. They are an unstoppable force, those cells and PDAs. We can't help ourselves. I just turn mine off so as not to be tempted.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Bona, it makes me crazy when I am trying to talk to a patient at work and they will stop in the middle of our conversation to text or answer their cell phone.

I think the majority of the people I see driving and talking/texting are women with the kids in the back seat.

You know that here in Calif. it is illegal to use a cell (hand held) or text while driving but soooo many people do it.

I seldom use my cell phone, and don't know how to text. It stays in my puse most of the day.

We are paying for a plan that has lots of minutes per month, plus roll over, and I think my usage is about 20 minutes (if that) per month.

I think we are wayyyy over paying and can't change our plan for another year :(

    ReplyDelete
  41. EBJ; I just want to make sure you know that my rant wasn't directed at you or anyone else here at the Nest. I do know that texting or talking w/out a hands-free device is illegal in CA, as it is in many states and countries. But it's been proven that cell/PDA usage whilst driving impairs one just as much as being legally drunk. Yet the punishment is a small fine and a ticket, not arrest as would happen if you'd been drinking.

There was a train crash in Simi Valley, CA about a year ago. Many people died. The cause? The conductor was texting. Lucky for him, he was one of the people killed. Then, a couple months ago, also in Simi Valley, two teens were killed when another teen, driving an SUV barreled into their coupe. The cause? The SUV driver was texting. Both incidents occurred under the protection of the "no texting" law.

Cellphones and PDAs are like fine wine. Wonderful to have under the right circumstances. Out in public, where others are at your mercy is not the right circumstance for any of that.
