What Would You Have Done???

by Dianne

Ok....get in the mode....you are 9-3/4 years old and you are a good child and student. In your class, if you talk, forget homework, etc., you have to "pull a ticket". If you have no tickets pulled by the end of the year, you get to go off campus for lunch with the teacher. You haven't pulled any and have been working very hard to reach this goal.

When you do homework, a book report, etc., you have to get a parents signature on it each day. You are now in class and you forgot to have mom sign it last night. You are not allowed to call home and even when you do explain...you will have to pull a ticket. It is to teach you responsibility. There is a sub today and it's getting close to time to turn the paper in....what would you do? Suck it up and have to pull the ticket....remember, you have worked so hard all year for this lunch? Tell the teacher..but still have to pull the ticket? Just put yourself there and think what you would do.

Now, I will tell you what this good student grandchild decided to do. She signed her mother's name. She told me she didn't think the sub would notice. Bad news for her is that the sub didn't even look at them and then the regular teacher did the next day. She got in a lot of trouble and then had to call home with the teacher to tell mom about it. She was grounded for a week from phone, playing with friends, etc. She knows she is a good person but made a bad choice.

We talked (just the two of us) about it this weekend and I do think she really learned her lesson plus she loves her teacher and felt bad about disappointing her. She wrote her an apology letter on her own, too.
Is there anyone out there that maybe would have done what my granddaughter did or would you just take the ticket? I probably would have taken the ticket because I was always afraid that I would get caught doing something wrong and I didn't want to face my dad.

  1. At first I thought I would sign the paper but then I think the guilt would get to me when the time came for the lunch. So I probably would tell that mom didn't sign and just take the ticket.

  2. My dear Owls! There is no need to feel insecure because your beauty isn't as obvious as mine. Lets face it, some of us have it and some of us don't. I, of course do!

Come out come out where ever you are!!

  3. OK Owls you can be shy if you want, but Dianne is giving FREE singing lessons to the first 10 commenters today! You don't want to miss out on that, do you?

  4. Dianne, don't think I would have been able to sign the paper. I might have been tempted, but I was always too afraid to do anything wrong.

My brother made up for it with fake IDs, etc.

Congrats today beautiful, stunning, gorgeous, fierce Shirley!

Have a great day, gotta get ready for work!

    Good Morning!!

    Great blog.....(rolls eye)

Personally I would have slipped the regular teacher a hallucinogenic and a big dose of viral gastroenteritis so she wouldn't know whether she was pooping or going blind....
this would keep her busy until the whole thing blew over....

    bon apetite!

  7. Good Morning Hooters!

Congrats to the prettiest of us all!

Dianne, at her age I would not have signed the paper. I would have faked illness, got sent home and brought the paper back the next day signed. But thats just me.

Now fast forward a few years, and I would have been all over signing that paper like stink on shit! lol

  8. you've got to be kidding me....i could sign my mom's name perfectly by the time I was her age...AND...my mom would have known it. I used to write my own sick notes and sign them for my mom. AND SHE TOLD ME TO!!! She was always busy getting the other kids ready for school and didn't have time to write notes~ (lol...we just talked about it and she rolled her eyes!)

  11. Good Morning!

DIANNE: I'd have just taken the ticket. I would never have been able to pull off signing the paper for my mom. Oh, I'm sure I could have copied her signature..but I probably would have handed the paper in and before the class was over I would have gone up to the teacher in tears and confessed "My mom didn't sign that..I did!!" The guilt would have eaten me up in 5m flat..I wouldn't have been able to think of anything else..lol..

I'm still like that today..I feel guilty even when I don't do anything wrong...The guilt lesson was one I learned at a very young age. ;)

SHIRLEY: Good Morning Sunshine! I just read that there are going to be solar flares this month..it must be a direct result of your brilliant beauty..you might have to turn it down a notch! :D

EBJ: I got the guilt gene..my brother missed out altogether!

DEEDEE: I can't wait to hear your first solo! ;)

GOLDIE: Now that's thinking the problem out!! Perfect!

TINA: See what a good kid you were? Your mom let you write the notes..but I bet you never wrote one without her knowledge!

MARY: LMAO!! I look guilty whether I do anything wrong or not too!!That really made me laugh! :D

  12. Morning Glories!

Shirley you are bedazzling at first!

Dianne I think I would have taken the ticket. But I would have had several moments of wanting to sign the damn thing. Poor kid she just could not win that day. I think it is a great tribute to her that she wrote an apology note herself. Hard lesson but I bet she won't forget, well until she is about 14 or so and wants to skip school.

Tina I kept wondering whose toe in the pic and why they had a dog on it. Totally did not get the camel toe until I read the comments.

I missed the pointless blog to.

Paper work had me buried. I am finally done with it and have only been on the phone 4 times this morning with food bank issues. A record I think.

  13. DIANNE - Kudos to your GD for writing an apology. I think I would've signed it, although my Mom always found out and I ended up with a size 9 up my ass!!!

SHIRLEY - You are dazzling at first today!! Although I have heard TINA'S songs and believe SHE needs them more than DEE DEE might ;)

EBJ - Have fun at work today!!

GOLDIE - I totally knew what your answer would be!! But it was just a hunch ;)

MARY & ZONA - That's why you should be Lutheran....no guilt here!!

LYNN - I hope you are relaxing. It's been quite a week ♥

    ReplyDelete
  14. La La La....get in line you first ten people so I can give you the singing lessons!!! I do sing like a robin or CelineDion....lovely!

SHIRLEY: OMG, you are so pretty beautiful this morning and this afternoon too. You are blinding me.

GOLDIE: What a great idea to go home sick. I won't tell my GD that idea but she so should have done that. I almost want to tell her in case there is a next time...but I won't! (Pssst....you tell her)

TINA: How is dad doing? Was his appt todayZ? Hope all three of you have a nice time there for a few days.

ZONA: I would have been way too guilty too but I think JODI has it right....we should have been Lutheran. It's never too late but I don't think we could EVER get that Catholic guilt out of us.

MO: How are things with Joanne? Has she received any more information from the doctor and how are you and what are you up too?

MARY: You don't look the type that would feel guilty signing that note. Hmmmm, wonder why I think that?

LYNN; I'm like you....a fleeting moment of thought....and then take the damn ticket.

JODI: Well, good thing you and my GD are best friends in school or the two of you would be in trouble a lot .... I think! Now remember this next time one of your kids get in trouble....that you would have signed the papers!!

BEBBI; Come out and play.....missing you and all your posts!! Can we help?

DEEDEE Call me and we will sing as I teach you the basics. There you are back to talking poop again. I don't think I will pass on your suggestions for the teacher to any of my Grandkids.

EBJ: You need to hop in that pool and cool off. Damn, I wrote poop instead of pool and had to go back and correct. DEEDEE and her darn poop!! My brother made up for me and never got caught either. He used to get so mad at me for telling my mom if we did something wrong because I was so scared they would find out.

  15. Well, I went to the doctor today and I am going to have to have surgery on my heel. We just have to figure out when I can fit it in my life. I will be in a cast for two weeks and then a boot for four weeks. Totally off my foot for the two weeks. He scared me about some of my other health issues with the surgery but it is really affecting my walking from my knee to my hip to my back all on that left side. It is some kind of surgery where they take my blood out and put it in my heel...creepy and I am a little scared.

    ReplyDelete
  16. DIANNE - Can I come and hold your hand? Surgery can be scary....but I'm sure your mobility will be soooooo much better when you have it done. Muah ♥

    ReplyDelete
  17. DIANNE: I know you're scared..I would be too..but just try and focus on how much better you'll feel when you finally get that Achilles taken care of..no more pain when you walk! I'll come visit with JODI and hold your other hand..ok? :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. DIANNE...I'm sorry you will have to have the surgery. That totally sux. I wish I could be there with JODI and ZONA holding your hand. Hmm, even if I could be there you don't have 3 hands do you?? LOL!

I don't think I would have signed the paper, but if I did I would have been bawling within 10 minutes and then be sure to have my mom ground me! I am such a chicken shit!! Good for your grandaughter for writing her apology note.

ZONA and EBJ...funny about your brothers! My brother wasn't a bad kid but he always managed to get caught with whatever he did do!

My bro and I both have smoking stories. When he was about 14 he got caught smoking by a police officer friend of the family. He brought my brother home in the squad car. My parents didn't say anything at the time and we had dinner as normal. After dinner my dad asked Mike, since he liked cigarettes if he wanted to join in him in an after dinner cig. Mike said yes and my dad pulled out a pack of non-filter cigs and told him to eat them since he liked them so much!! I laughed my ass off for the longest time...as Mike was barfing!! Of course to this day Mike smokes 2 packs a day!

I was about 13 and my friends and I had our first cigs. I felt so guilty. My mom wanted to know what was wrong and I said nothing. About 11 pm, I got out of bed because I couldn't sleep and I went to her in tears and admitted my sin! I proceeded to tell her that she needed to ground me for two weeks! She did. I should have remembered that in College when I started smoking for real!

  19. I called BEBBI a bit ago and she says to tell all of you she says hello. She is just taking a BEBBI break and will be back soon. She will not have internet access over the weekend, so hopefully we will see her next week.

SHIRLEY...OMG...a lovlier person I have never seen. You are simply shinning and stunning today!

    TINA...how's dad doing?

GOLDIE...LOL@ faking illness to go home and come back the next day with the paper signed! Of course, I would feel too guilty to do that! And scared that I would jinx myself and really get sick the next day!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Dianne- I'm sorry about the surgery, but lets hope for the best and look at as a solution to the problem. Of coure we will all ber their group groping when you go under and when you come out! :)

Mo- no guilt, I would have done it in a heartbeat!

    ReplyDelete
  21. GOLDIE...how's your shoulder doing?

DIANNE...Let's just say Joanne is Joanne. I am backing away a bit. I have decided I will not visit during the week, after work. I will go on the weekends only. I am too exhausted and getting short tempered. She started yelling at me last night, for no reason, and I got mad. I then got even more mad at myself for being mad at her. She apologized later, but I didn't want to let it go. I did accept her apology and told her I wasn't mad...even tho I was!! I know in my heart she is scared and lonely and anxious...So it is best if I just call her every day and only go in the day time. Aren't you glad you asked??!! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  22. The shoulder is getting better...slowlllllllllllly. I am out of the sling, but I find I almost wish I was back in it when I forget and try to use the arm to much. :)

  23. dang is, Di~ I hope you don't die~ :)~ (my sis made me a cosmo....she forgot i don't drink....and I didn't want to disappoint....it's freaking yummy!!)

Did I really say that? Nope, must have been someone else ;-)
scooze me while I get me another Sangria.....

Diane, "I want to hold your hand" tooo! The Beatles made me say that lol!!

  25. Hmmm... Dianne, I'm torn on this this one. I despise adherence to rules and protocols just for the sake of adhering to rules and protocols, but it's not right to implicate Mom in the duplicity by signing her name.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Hey all..sorry for the funk. Just have a lot of stuff happening in my life.

Thanks everyone for the shout outs..I feel a little embarrassed and "drama queenish"..just so you guys know, it's totally nothing to do with the nest..just shit I am going through.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Dianne: This is the first time your granddaughter had to go through this. My daughter knew she could sign my name if needed but she had to tell me when she did. I can understand her not wanting to get in trouble for it, but I think the whole deal is, it's a good lesson to learn for the parents and the children. Parenting is such a personal topic, in my situation I made it understood that they could sign for me, so long as it was for a legitimate reason and I had to know right after or before if possible. My kids got good at forging my signature. Also, they are all graduating from college so I must have did something right..lol.

It's a personal thing though, parenting has to be because people are so different and there isn't just one right answer (thank GOODNESS!).

  28. Dianne, HELLOOOO, I am Catholic and I went to Catholic elementary school through 11th grade. I am steeped in guilt. Some friends and I had plans to skip school one day and instead of meeting them at the appointed place, I turned around and went back home, telling my Mom I was sick. Then I REALLY got sick and I was sure God was punishing me. And that was in High School. It took me that long to even THINK about doing something rebellious.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Dianne..

When I think back of the young child I was, I think I would have signed the paper.. and I think when I told my mom, she would have been ok with it, cause I did not want the ticket. However she prob would have taken my princess phone away from me for a day, any longer than that I would have followed her everywhere, and she would just give in..

Now knowing what I know I would just take the ticket.. as I know some risks are not worth taking.. but as a child a risk is certainly worth it..

Congrats on her getting no tickets thru out the year.. but if anything this certainly taught her a lesson..

I feel bad for her.. cause she really did try..

Your daughter sounds like a wonderful parent.. Kudos!

  30. Mo, Catholic guilt is only rivaled by Jewish guilt. :) I think you've made a good decision to only visit Joanne on the weekends, for now at least. We don't want you to get sick from the stress.

  31. Dianne..

    sorry forgot..

Sorry about your surgery.. but if its going to help, then it must be done..

    ReplyDelete
  33. Mo..

Good idea, back away.. You can't change the situation, so its best to look at it from afar most of the time.. and let yourself be in it, for just a few hrs a week..

I know its a hard decision, but I believe its the right one..

  34. My mother saw Sal today, as she brought him some food.. she says he looks awful.. and he can't walk without the walker.. and when he does he is not steady on his feet..

  38. Di, Surgery is a scary thing, but if it will help you walk it will be worth it. We will all be thinking good thoughts for you. (((HUGS)))

I forgot to say how impressed I am that your granddaughter wrote the teacher an apology without being prompted.

Shirley, you should have warned me to wear my shades. I am blinded by your light.

  39. SACBARB...how is your son doing? Does he have any leads on a new job?

CAROL...always so nice to see you posting. I hope things are calming down for you a bit. I hope you can have some CAROL time this weekend.

    BEBBI...;) Glad to see you.

  40. SACBARB...you are so right about Catholic and Jewish guilt! We certainly have the market on it, don't we? LOL!!!

  41. Hello! Sorry I am here so late tonight. My grandkids are staying here this week so I've been a bit preoccupied.

Shirley You are the prettiest and the brightest today.

Dianne I'm so sorry you will have to have surgery. That procedure sounds interesting. What exactly is wrong with your foot, if you don't mind me asking? Hopefully, you will be able to walk so much easier once this is taken care of.

MO I agree with others that it is best for you to take a break from spending so much time with Joanne. It's enough for you to see her on the weekends. She's lucky to have you.

Bebbi We've missed you. I hope you are feeling better now.

Goldie I know it's frustrating and you want you arm to be 100% right now, but take it easy, mkay?

Tina Did you forget that you don't drink, too? LOL

Carol LMAO @ your mom taking your princess phone away and then you following her around until she gave it back.

Dianne2 Kudos to your GD for writing the apology note to her teacher. She's such a good girl and had such a good record right up until that last signature. I don't think it would have occured to me to sign my mother's name at that age, but I did do it a few times when I skipped school in high school.
