~ Non-Rev Challenge ~

by Tina~in_ut

My company has a contest called the Non-Rev Challenge.  (Non-Rev stands for non-revenue....meaning that we standby for the flight and don't pay anything if there is a seat available for us to fly)  Teams of 5 people visit as many as 100 different places around the world to earn points and must take a picture of themselves at each place or performing the required task.  The team with the most points gets positive space business class tickets to anywhere we fly.  Also, each team gets donations, either lump sum or per destination or per mile flown, and the total is given to the charity of the winning team's choice.  Each team has to have at least one person in each picture wearing the non-rev challenge t-shirt.  They earn more points if there are more team members in the picture.  There are five different tiers and any team completing all of the tasks in a tier earn bonus points.

Tier 1: Anywhere!  Each extra team member in the picture earns 2 extra points.  If you complete all tasks in this tier, you earn an extra 50 points.  Here are some of the 25 tasks:
  • take a picture with someone with a mullet
  • sliding down a fireman's pole
  • with someone in a traditional geisha costume
  • while volunteering at an official United Way event
  • burying a team member in the sand

Tier 2: Focus! Each extra team member in the picture earns 4 extra points.  If you complete all tasks in this tier, you earn an extra 50 points.  Here are some of the 15 tasks:
  • at La Brea tar pits
  • doing jumping jacks in JAX
  • with one of the "Mermaids on Parade"
  • wearing a fake mustache with the Topiary French People

Tier 3:  In the Land of the Free!  Each extra team member in the picture earns 4 extra points.  If you complete all tasks in this tier, you earn an extra 75 points.  Here are some of the 20 tasks:
  • eating marshmallows in front of the Ghostbuster's Firehouse
  • straddling the Nevada/Arizona border at Hoover Dam
  • standing on the glass ledge at the Skydeck at the Willis Tower
  • with the world's largest shuttlecocks

Tier 4:  Across the Pond!  Each extra team member in the picture earns 8 extra points.  If you complete all tasks in this tier, you earn an extra 100 points.  Here are some of the 20 tasks:
  • at the entrance gates of Christiana
  • at Hagia Sophia
  • at the House of Blue Tiles
  • in front of the Narrowest Canal House

Tier 5:  Find Non-Rev Norman!  Each extra team member in the picture earns 8 extra points.  If you complete all tasks in this tier, you earn an extra 100 points.  This tier is the tricky one.  There are 20 pictures, some of which I have posted here, and the first thing you have to do is figure out where in the world the picture was taken and then go there and take a picture of your own.  These are the pictures that I cannot for the life of me figure out where they are.  I'm almost positive about one of them, but the others.....not a clue.  Do you have any ideas?  One of my friends is signing up for the challenge.  She did this last year and her team came in second.  I told her that I'd help her find out where these places were.  I wish I could go with her because it sounds like so much fun, but she's young and doesn't have a family, so I'll just root for her from home (and probably work for her too!).

  1. WooHoo!!

TINA: This contest sounds like a lot of fun..I wish I could help but I've barely been out of my own backyard! I tried to google some of the landmarks..the arch..and the Gerald Ford banner..I also tried Yahoo images..but no luck. I'm wondering if the Gerald Ford one is somewhere in Nebraska because that's where he was born? I'm sure the rest of the Owls will do better than I did! Good luck to your friend!

  2. What an interesting blog! I'd no idea airline employees were encouraged to fly... I thought it was a reluctant benefit. Go figure.

Tina, I can't see you missing out on this sort of thing. I also can't see you losing such a contest.

Good morning Zona and anyone dropping by later!

  3. Congrats to Zona for 1st today! Yipee!

Tina that sounds like a lot of fun! I think you'd be great at the challenge!

I don't have the travel bug any more, I like to stay close to home. I would do the challenge in Hawaii, though! :)

    Hi Bona!

  6. Ok I'm back from further investigating..and I'm still completely lost! TINA..why couldn't they take just one of the pics in AZ..at least then I might have a chance..unless it was of the Capital building that is.. ;)

EBJ: Who do you want to see go on BB? I'm thinking Andrew..not sure though..

GOLDIE: I'm glad your day is starting off so much better! :)

  8. Happy Thursday Owls.

Tina, What a great contest. Is there a time limit for all the tasks to be completed? I have no idea where any of those pics are taken. I thought maybe the one with the cactus was in Zona's territory, but I guess AZ is not the only place that grows cactus.

  9. Zona, How ravishing you are!

Waving a wing to Bonachichi, Goldie, Bebbi, Dianne and all who fly in later.

    From A 51

DeeDee, thanks for the info on the tankless water heater. I guess I need to do some research and check around for other plumbers.

Shirley, no wine for the plummer. He was kinda cute, but not that special. Also, he was VERY young.

Bear, I had no idea an electric BBQ could be that expensive. I only paid $150 for mine, but as you know, it is very small. However I did fit six whole tri tips on it for a family dinner.

  10. Tina: Wow, no clue where those pics would be taken...but it sure sounds fun!

  11. Good afternoon everyone!
    Hi Beautiful Zona!!

Tina, that contest gave me a headache lol!
The one with Gerald Ford is hanging at our Gerald R Ford Airport in Grand Rapids', the one with the colorful tiles looks like the Vegas airport. Good luck to your friend!

    Waving at SacBarb,Bonachi,EBJ,Goldie,Bebbi, & Diane~~~~~

  12. Mary, I agree with you on the Vegas airport. Thats the Excalibur.

If you could magnify the car in the picture in the other photo you may be able to tell the state. It struck me right away as Chicago though- not at the airport though.

I think the first photo is so vague that it HAS to be in your own airport!

    ReplyDelete
  13. yay Mary! That's where I thought the pic of Ford was.....but I needed it confirmed! Thank you and Angela thanks you~ ....btw....where exactly in the airport is it?~

    Zona~ ur so pretty today~

Bonachichi~ I would love nothing more than to participate, but the time away from home, the cost (hotels, intl taxes, etc), and my farming keep me from doing it~

EBJ~ there is one thing in Hawaii to go to!~

Goldie~ Glad ur day is better~ :D ...and that first pic has been driving me nuts!!!

Bebbi~ I KNOW!!! that was my reaction too~

Sackie~ they have from Sept 1 to Nov 1 to complete it all~ when i was falling asleep this morning I realized I left that part out, but I was too tired to get back up~ :)~

    Good Morning, Di~ :D

  16. A quick fly by while I'm still at lunch!

Di, MR. E's dr. told him yesterday that he MUST wear his boot and use the crutches.

His bone is healing, not sure if he will need surgery yet so he has to wear the boot to lessen the chances of surgery.

He isn't happy about it as he hates wearing it.

Zona, I am torn about who goes home tonight on Big Brother.

I kind of like Andrew as he is quirky. Kathy is kind of interesting too.

    See ya'll later!

  17. all those places should be easy to recognize with that little guy on them....

    ReplyDelete
  18. oh goody, DeeDee~ then you get to work finding all of them~ (rolling BOTH eyes!)

  19. Good Morning to you too, TINA....EXECEPT....I had to be up early today for a cleaning lady and then PT this afternoon. I have been getting my farm all harvested and plowed and now I have to get off this foot.

ZONA: You are so darn beautiful today...extra today. There was a lady on our news last night and she was arrested for stealing and her name (real name) was ZONA....I thought of you tenderly right away.

GOLDIE: Glad your day is better. I hated days that started out like that first thing when you got to work...made you want to walk right back out!!

TINA; None of the places look like anyplace I know or maybe they are all in the Denver airport and I just don't pay attention. I agree with DEEDEE though, it will be easy to stop that little guy in the picture..is he related to Flat Stanley?

CHICHI: I would think you would know all these places or maybe they need pictures of the airports in Arabia, etc. :)

MARY: So, you really went to the fair and didn't eat anything? What did you do then? Not even a cotton candy?

BEBBI: You never tell us about your steps anymore. Are you still counting them everyday?

SACBARB: We went to see South Pacific last week and loved it. I would like to see Oklahoma too. I think we have West Side Story coming next year on our list. We also have Lion King coming back and will probably go and see it.

  20. EBJ: Your husband is going to be sorry if he does't do what the doctor tells him. Just tell him be glad he can put weight on it and not have to be laying down for two months.....maybe that will scare him into doing what he's told..believe me .....it has not been fun.

We went away last weekend for a wedding and it was a nice time. It was one of the best weddings I have been too just not fun not being able to dance or walk around some. It was great to see all our family and have both my kids and families there. My son usually has to work for so many family events. The bride and groom rented two greyhound buses from the hotel to the wedding area so people wouldn't have to worry about drinking and driving. I had to worry about drinking and scooting in a walker....but I did it!!!!!!

I have been MIA lately as I haven't had much to contribute and I get all pity party sometimes but I do read and smile at all the owls comments.

  21. Dianne, So good to see you here. The rest of our Music Circus season includes, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (I don't know how they made a musical out of that), Funny Girl and 42nd Street. These are the weekly shows where I am a volunteer usher.

Oklahoma was really good. The Curly character (Jeremiah James) sounded like Gordon McCrae. I have not seen him before. The box office screwed up the tickets and they all read OAKLAHOMA. We had a good laugh over that. None of the patrons noticed it.

  22. Diannne!!!!! I am so glad to see you. I missed your comments..and yes, still counting steps..I have 10,000 today but I have been bike riding too which doesn't account for any steps at all. I am only 9 pounds from my goal weight and have lost 85 lbs now. I am so happy with it. I still work out every day and get between 10-20K steps a day.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I have 10,432 steps right now but heading out to go bike riding before dark so I will talk to you all later and read more comments when I return...

  24. 85lbs? WAY TO GO BEBBI!

tina~ I am going to Chicago this weekend- I will look around for you.

Bon Jovi and me in 48 hours!!!

  25. Hardy-har-har, Dianne... I don't usually get to fly into/out of "regular" airports. Most times, I just get a patch of dirt.

There's one pic that looks Asian-ish. Or maybe it's Dutch. I don't know... I never pay attention.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Wow, Bebbi and her 85 lbs. And she's exercising religiously. She's probably healthier than most of us. Way to go, Bebbi!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Wow, Bebbi, Congrats on 85 lbs. loss. I wish it was me. I am trying so hard to get into a grove of dieting but I haven't been too successful. My head just isn't in the right space. You are an inspiration, however.

  28. I've a question about old Norman in the pictures, there. Is he the stand-in for a person? Doesn't there have to be a real person in the pic? And if not, how come someone didn't give Norman a wife and kids so the Non-Rev players could get extra points?

Tina, I'll volunteer to bury you in the sand for extra points. Just don't expect me to be digging you out.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Thanks Barb and bonachichi: Yes, I do exercise a lot..but it feels really good. I just came back in from doing yoga for a little bit in my back yard. That was very pleasant. I felt in touch with God.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Goldie: Have fun at Bon Jovi..there are one or two people here that are very envious.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have no idea where anything is

  32. GOLDIE...when I woke up this morning I rolled over and reminded Jon you'll be at his concert in a couple of days. He will look for you :)

ZONA...you were a real stunner this morning!

DIANNE...you deserve a little pity party. Revel in it!

Sorry I haven't been a good owl lately. Just not in a hooting kind of mood. Hope all are well.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Owls!

    Congrats on 1st Zona!

Sorry Tina I can't help you with the pictures. I'm not sure how good I would be at this contest, but at least it makes working for this company interesting.

I kind of feel like Dianne and Maureen...having a pity party and not feeling in a hooting kind of mood. I wish I could see and hear the ocean like Lynn D.

    Nighty night Owls!
