I missed Shark Week. I came home from work one day to find that the boys had taped some of the shows, though. My favorite was Ultimate Air Jaws. Watching those HUGE sharks flying through the air is amazing to me. I was a little bummed to learn that the "seals" that I thought were being killed were actually decoys! I know......I'm sick! But hey! That's life!
So you think there's nothing new that can be said or filmed for Shark Week. Wrong! Crazy Chris Fallows.....no.....wait....INSANE Chris Fallows has this HD camera that shoots a ridiculous 2000 frames per second. At one point in the show, he gets in the water and swims from the boat to Seal Island off the coast of South Africa. I kept waiting for a shark to take him out!
The pictures that he's able to get from the island and from the boat are incredible. He's able to show a shark shooting out of the water, grabbing hold of the "seal", realizing it's not a real, and spitting it, and all the water in his mouth, out....in a matter of seconds. These sharks are no dummys~
One of the coolest scenes was of Chris on the "seal sled." They built the "sled" to carry Chris behind the boat, followed by the decoy seal. With the "seal eye", an amazing underwater camera, they were able to see the shark before he breaks the surface. They were able to capture him stalking his prey and then accellerating to about 25 mph. On the surface, Chris was able to observe the pressure wave the shark creates just before the breach. He thinks that's the warning the seal gets that the shark is about to attack. Between the camera on the boat and Chris' camera on the "sled", they were able to capture some amazing footage. When asked by the producer if he wanted to do this again (lay on the sled waiting for another shark to attack), Chris yelled back to the boat, "No way! I'm done!"
For you, DeeDee~
lmbo!!!! i didn't know what time this was going to post....and my boss just walked away~ lol~
ReplyDeleteGood Moaning~
Morning glories!
ReplyDeleteTina I am going to tell your boss!
Hi Janice.
Okay started to watch the footage but I just can't sharks give me the heebee jeebies and scare the holy water right out of me.
I am always amazed in these animal documentaries how close they get and always wondered what crazy fool they could talk into doing this filming now I know.
Waving at everyone!
Just crawled out of bed sorry about the lack of punctuation in that last post.
ReplyDeleteThat was insane! I'm so glad they used decoys.
ReplyDeleteI've a client who is infatuated with sharks and orcas. I'm surprised he's still got the correct number of body parts.
Good morning Janice, Tina & LynnD!
Good morning TINA!! JANICE....good morning to you, too!! That video was amazing!!
ReplyDeleteLYNN - You just made my day. All is right in the world when I see your "Morning glories" ♥
BONACHICHI - Good evening? Or is it still afternoon in your world? Regardless....I hope you're having a good day!!
Yesterday I started school supply shopping. I went to the "little" Walmart in the town next to mine. Only got a little more than half of what I needed....and spent $90.00!!! They didn't even have simple 2 pocket folders....WTC!!! Off to find the rest of what I need today. May just go to Staples and use my "Easy" button ;)
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Hooters!
ReplyDeleteTina~ Chris is one crazy person~fascinating but mofo crazy!
Flapping a wing at everyone- good luck shopping Jodi!
Thanks GOLDIE!! Hope your day is "idiot free" ;)
ReplyDeleteGood morning!
ReplyDeleteTina, I love shark week and have always been fascinated by them.
There is something along the coast here in N. Calif. called the "red triangle".
It runs from the Farallon Islands, down to Monterey area, up to Tomales Bay..
There is a large seal population in this area, which means lots of food for the sharks.
The SF Aquarium has had 2 or 3 Great Whites on display over the past years. I think I remember the last one started eating all the other fish in the tank, so they released it.
Thanx for the great blog today!
Bona where are you, and what were those codes (airports?) that you used in your post yesterday?
Hi Lynn, Jodi and Goldie!
good morning....
ReplyDeleteTina...you should post those pics of your 2 oldest kids on those surfboards...you know...when the great whites were in hot pursuit...
You can go down to Capetown South Africa and they have these tour boats that take people out to seal Island to hopefully witness these jumping sharks....
Personally I think the sharks are just showing off when they see the cameras....
Either that or they are being compassionate towards the seals by giving them a "never knew what hit em" type of death rather than scaring the seal shit out of them when they see that big toothy bastard swimming toward them.....
I knew a professional baseball player who was attacked by 2 sharks and lost both arms and both legs...effectively ending his baseball career...but he was able to live out the rest of his days as first base....which made him very happy.....
and yerrrr OUT!!
Ah. I am working in Switzerland M-F. Weekends are in Italy. Been here for 3 weeks now, and should be done in 2 more.
ReplyDeleteBLX is Belluno airport, where I "catch my ride".
OMG DeeDee! How can one woman be so funny! Scare the seal shit out of them. I'm laughing so hard, I'm snorting.
ReplyDeleteTina....
ReplyDeleteI am sorry to hear that you missed last weeks shark shows....but the real
SHARK WEEK
will be this week for you with the arrival of Mother Alissssss...ur MIL!!
Watch your back...I'd hate to see you get a big ole chunk taken out of your ass!! DO NOT...dress up like a seal....
Shark week.....Grumpy old cow week
same...same...same...
oh bonachichi....I didn't realize you are so close to Venezia!!
ReplyDeleteNext Saturday could you run down there for me around noon? Just go to the Royal Suite at the Bauer Palazzo...the door will be open...a man there named Guido will have a briefcase for you....
He will give you money for your trouble and put you on a boat...you'll need to leave the city immediately....the boat will take you to the edge of Marco Polo Airport where you will be flown back to Belluno......
I hope the beard and mustache you will need to wear for the duration of your time on the continent won't be too much trouble.....
DO NOT look in the briefcase...however...if you are apprehended in customs while bringing it to me....I never heard of you.....
thank yewwwwww!!
Great, DeeDee. I don't need help getting myself arrested, especially from you. After 3 years, I'm finally mending my fractured relationship with France and you want me to stir up shit in Italy? They will put me on a boat and aim it towards Albania. I'm quite popular there. Fans with automatic weapons can't wait to get me in their sights.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd go down Sicily way and drop your name... You know, those grandfatherly types who sit at nice tables, listen patiently and ever-so-calmly, order a nice side of beef to be put into bed with you?
Oh... Guido. That reminds me. During Gumball, I had an Italian and an American as part of my team. They hated each other. The Italian (Ale) didn't tell the American he spoke English, and Ale was constantly tormenting the American. The American would lose his temper and insult Ale by calling him "Guido".
ReplyDeleteThey all went out drinking one night and Ale was too hung-over to work the next day. I called hotel room service and ordered a bucket of ice water to be delivered to Ale's nuts. After Ale coaxed his balls out of his throat, he was well enough to work. Ah, good times.
Bebbi, from Area 51: No it wasn't you I was referring to about the excessive Facebook posts!
ReplyDeleteThe person I was talking about is not a hooter.
Sorry if you felt I was talking about you!
G'afternoon everyone!
ReplyDeleteTINA: I can't watch the vid..well I could, but I'm too chicken. I try my best to avoid sharks..in any form..whether finned & gilled or two legged..lol..I will tell Mr Z about it though..he'll love it!
As much as I like going to the beach..I don't like thinking about what lives in the ocean. I get a little freaked out knowing there are things swimming in there that are as big as my house..eeek..
Going to go swimming in my safe 6' deep pool now..lol..
Waving at TINA, LYNN, JODI, BONACHI, EBJ, GOLDIE and DEEDEE!
btw..we had corn on the cob a couple nights ago..we bought five ears..how much do I owe you DEEDEE? :D
JODI: Do you know what this blog made me think of? Knock. Knock. "Candygram.." :D
ReplyDeleteOk..off to the pool..have a good afternoon everyone!
ZONA - bwahahahaha ♥
ReplyDeleteHI Everyone!
ReplyDeleteI was sick today, stayed home..still having troubles but feeling better somewhat. I have pressure in my chest..not sure what's going on but I think I might have pulled something. Oh well, it will get better or I will die. Those are the two extremes. :)
Okay...enough about my day. I hope everyone had a good one today and take care! :)
Tina: I couldn't watch the footage, too much for me today.
I have a lot to catch up on. Had shitty weekend and a shitty Monday. Here's looking to Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteGOLDIE...Your blog from M was so heartfelt. My deepest condolences to M and her family. It broke my heart when she said the 2 youngest only remember their dad from photos. Thank you for doing that. And thanks to M for her inspirational story.
EBJ...sorry I didn't get to watch the SMV. Maybe next time.
TINA...I am afraid of Shark Week! Can't watch it.
Gonna curl up with a movie and wait for midnight...today will be over then!!!!!
Hopefully, see ya'll tomorrow.
TINA...I meant to mention to you that at first quick glance I thought the title to today's blog was Ultimate Air JEWS...couldn't imagine what it would have been about!
ReplyDeleteMo~ That's my next blog~ :)~
ReplyDeleteOkay DeeDee~ I added ur pics~
Oh, Tina... that's just wrong. Sharks chasing your babies. Show 'em that next time they piss you off.
ReplyDeleteGood evening, HOoters and Hos. :)
ReplyDeleteTina I knew there was a good reason why I don't go in the ocean even though I live next to it. Last week a man had a close call not far from here when a shark bit down on the kayak he was in. It flipped the kayak and the man scrambled on top of the kayak and was able to look the shark in the eye.
LynnD I hope you're feeling more chipper these days. Did you ever go to the doctor?
Bonach, I'm going on a cruise in October on an Italian ship. I've been on this particular line before and the fresh made pasta dishes are devine. The Italian stallion crew are not bad to look at, either. This may be the closest I ever get to Italy.
Jodi In my day (long, long, ago) all you needed to start school was a blue binder and lined paper, page dividers, pen and pencils. What happened to those "good old days"?
EBJ Won't catch me near the red (bloody) triangle. No siree.
DeeDee LOL @ Tina not dressing as a seal! You are such a crack up or on crack, not sure which sometimes. ;)
Zona Maybe if you send the corn cobs back to DeeDee she'll give you a rebate. And LMAO @ CandyGram. Loved that skit.
Bebbi Sorry you're under the weather. Hope you feel better in the morning.
MO That's what I thought the blog was titled, too, at first glance. LOL
SLIN - Seriously....I think I spent over $50.00 on binders alone!! Happy to say that I got the last of it DONE!! Staples had folders for .15...yeah!!
ReplyDeleteBonachichi~ are you kidding me? Both kids have these pictures on their facebook pages~
