ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL?

by Shirley

How many bowl games are played? Anyone? Well I decided to check it out, and I found that there is a crap load of them!

These are the ones I found:

Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Rose Bowl, Super Bowl, Sugar Bowl, BCS National Championship Game Bowl, Sun Bowl, Cotton Bowl Classic, Gator Bowl, Capital One Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Chick-Fil-A-Bowl, Independence Bowl, Holiday Bowl, Outback Bowl, Insight Bowl, Champs Sports Bowl, Maaco Bowl Las Vegas, Alamo Bowl, Little Caesar's Pizza Bowl, Humanitarian Bowl, Music City Bowl, GoDaddy.com Bowl, Texas Bowl, New Orleans Bowl, Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl, Hawaii Bowl, Meineke Car Care Bowl, Armed Forces Bowl, Poinsettia Bowl, BBVA Compass Bowl, New Mexico Bowl, Military Bowl, Beef 'O' Brady's Bowl St.Petersburg, Pinstripe Bowl and the Ticket City Bowl.

I also learned that there was a Mud Bowl, Fog Bowl, Snow Bowl, Ice Bowl, Freezer Bowl and Bounty Bowl, but I think these were just one time occurrences. So, how many of these bowl games do you actually watch? Does anyone watch ALL of them? Do you prefer college games to professional games, or do you like them both the same? The college games seem to be a bit more exciting to me. The crowds seem to be more fun and loud! I look forward to reading your comments!

  3. Good morning DeeDee! Shirley, it seems you're doing a lot of research these days and it's all interesting.

I met a man some years ago. We went on a dinner cruise then flew to Vegas to sleep on the pool chairs at Caesar's Palace. He was wearing a ring. A big ring. It was a Super Bowl ring. Football's okay... it just takes so long. But those are some damn big rings!

  4. I am ready for some football! Shirley, since moving to the States, I've become an avid fan of both pro and college. If the niners ever mount a serious post-season charge again, look out of for a crazed fan!

But since Jim's a fanatic about THE Ohio State University (he didn't go there, but grew up in Worthington and Sandusky Ohio), I've become one too. That makes game after game during the regular season exciting, because you have a stake in many of them. If OSU is ranked below Team X, you want Team X to lose!

So, to the bowl picture. The Ducks are playing the "Civil War" this weekend against their cross-state rivals, the Beavers. The Ducks are ranked #2, OSU is currently #6, so I want the Beavers to prevail.

    Believe it or not! LOL!

Regardless of whether Oregon stays undefeated, though, OSU is assured a spot in either the Sugar or the Orange, so possibly against an undefeated team like TCU. And the actual National Championship bowl? If it comes down to a matchup between undefeated Auburn and the undefeated Ducks, I'm going for the Ducks. We West Coasters have to stick together!

  5. DeeDee You are definitely the most beautiful Owl today. Congrats! Hey, when football season is over, maybe you can change that emblem on the side of your head for a notice that reads, "If lost, return to....". That would be handy don't you think?

  6. Bonach Was he too cheap to get a room or did you two just pass out on the lawn chairs after partying all night?

  7. Bear My friend in Idaho prefers college games as he feels the players are less spoiled and tainted by money and fame. He follows the Idaho State games.

  8. Shirley I'm not an avid fan like Dianne is, but I do root for the San Francisco 49ers. Other than the home team, I don't really care about watching football too much, at least not enough to watch it on purpose if my team isn't playing.

  9. Living in a house with three sons and my husband, we watched a LOT of football, both college and pro, and I really liked it. I was up on all the players just like Dianne is. But now that all the boys are gone and I live alone, it's not as much fun to watch, so I usually don't. However, I still consider myself a Raiders fan just to support the kids.

Sacramento is known for its Camellias and we used to have a Camellia Bowl between the Sac Police Department and Sac County Sheriffs. My family used to go every year and root for the Sheriffs because we live in the county. They don't have the games any more but I'm not sure why. It probably has to do with money.

Waving to all the Owls. I hope you are all having a great day.

  11. Just_Lin; LOL @ too cheap! It was a large group of us. We hadn't planned on anything but the dinner cruise. When we docked, we went to the airport and took an impulse trip to Vegas. Around 4.00 a.m. we got tired so we took a snooze by the pool. We woke up (actually, hotel maintenance woke us up), had breakfast and flew back.

  12. I prefer the Toilet Bowl...especially since our football team is usually shitty.

  13. Afternoon Glories!

Well Shirley I played football today...with a nurses head! It was very satisfying. Did you know that all of the anxiety, depression, joint and muscle aches, debilitating fatigue' swimming in you own body fluids night sweats, crazy going to rip your face off mood swings could all be cured, according to the little know it all 20 something chippy, by just doing more exercise!!!

Yep sweatin to the oldies for oldies would cure all that ails me. BITCH!

Told her with all due respect (which was a lie and said with some sarcasm) that until she had been through it she really had no idea and should probably leave the diagnosis up to the Doctor.

The Doctor who is a saint of a woman, looked at me and said time for hormone therapy. Thank God!!! It has only taken 5 years to get someone who gets it! Oh and as a bonus she prescribed Lorazepam for my anxiety. These are my new best friends took one this afternoon and went shopping with Mr. Lynn D and did not want to kill him or anyone else, laughed and talked. He was amazed. Actually by the time we got back to the car he was trying to make a deal for one of my pills.

This is why I have not been online much. I have been in really bad fucking shape. Woke up yesterday and really thought about starting the day with a glass of wine. Decided it was time to see a doc and once again my doc was so booked that it would be a month before I could see her. Told the receptionist there was no way in hell I could wait a month and the gods intervened and sent me a Freaking Saint!

I got my Christmas present early!

PS Still not smoking. Now I am not taking up drinking to compensate. :)

  17. I guess there aren't as many football owls here as I thought!

I'm glad DeeDee and Mo pointed out the Punch Bowl and Toilet Bowl! I totally forgot them!

Whabbear I'm not sure what you said but you seemed very passionate about it!

Bonachi you never know what's going to come up when you Google!

Just Lin I'm not a huge football fan either. My mum loved to watch football. I remember when my siblings and I were much younger, my mum would make sure the tree and decorations were all down and put away by noon on January 1st, so she could spend all afternoon and evening watching the different football bowls that came on.

SacBarb sounds like you had some fun watching games with your hubby and sons!

Lynn I'm glad you finally have some relief! And we didn't have to dip into the bail fund, unless that nurse presses charges for you using her head as a football!!
