I keep seeing posts on FB about how cutting government spending is a bad thing. Do people take the time to look further than the journalistic propaganda in order to see whether what’s being shoved down your throats is true or false? Below is a list of government agencies, funded by California taxpayers. Many of them overlap. Many are special interest only. Many don’t really do anything. I for one, am tired of paying for something that exists yet does nothing. I’m not saying we don’t need some of them, but what’s the difference between the California Bay-Delta Authority and the California Bay-Delta Office? Why are California Business Agency, California Business Investment Services (CalBIS), California Business Permit Information (CalGOLD) and California Business Portal separate entities? Read the list. I dare you. If you don’t live and pay taxes in California, no worries. Every state has agencies like these. And the Fed has even more.

Good Morning~
ReplyDeleteI hear ya, ChiChi~ Thanks for sending in the blog~ :D
ReplyDeleteGood Morning 2 ;)
ReplyDeleteBONACHI: You posted a challenge to read the whole list..I tried..about 1/4 through I got tired of reading the list. Therein lies my problem with politics and politicians..there is so much rhetoric on both sides..so much doublespeak..so much fighting..that I get tired. I know I should listen..and I try..I really do..because I want to be informed..but it wears me out. I just want our elected officials to help the people of this country..forget the personal agendas..and get some work done.
TINA: You're pretty as a picture today! :)
Mr Z has to go to work 5 hours early this morning for a meeting which will last less than an hour. He debated on whether to just stay there because of the gas prices..it's a 40m drive..but decided to come home and go back this afternoon. There is something so wrong with this picture. I mean couldn't they have just had a conference call? sheesh..
Have a nice Hump Day everyone!
Bonachichi, Where did you get this list??? I was a State worker for over 35 years and many of my co-workers and I used to grumble about the overlap of services provided by many state agencies, however some of those listed are not really 'agencies', but programs within an agency. Even so, I feel that a lot of services can be combined under 'one roof' and it would save the taxpayer a lot of money.
ReplyDeleteI really laughed when I saw the CA Political Reform Division. I think they are the ones that developed the ethics training which was required for all Governor appointed personnel. As the HR Manager for a part of the Governor's Office, it was my responsibility to schedule this training and it was really a joke. First of all, they were all 'too busy' to attend, and when I finally got it through to them that it was MANDATORY, they would schedule it, but they spent the whole time on their Blackberry. So in the end it was just another waste of taxpayer money.
By the way, I didn't know we had the Department de Vehiculos Motorizados and the California Estatal de Personal. WTH? Each department with direct services to the public is supposed to have bi-lingual positions to help people who don't speak English. Why do we need a whole Department? Maybe some of the Governor's friends needed a job.
Good morning Tina. You look lovely as usual.
ReplyDeleteZona, Doesn't that severely cut into Mr. Z's sleep time? Maybe he could just stay at work and take a nap in the back room. Oh, wait...they don't have a back room do they?
Waving to all the Owls and I hope you all have a good day.
Good afternoon or morning all!
ReplyDeleteBonachichi: I agree with Zona, but I didn't even make it 1/4 the way! It is exhausting. Watch out though, because once someone becomes aware of your complaint..they will start the California Dept of Inter-related, cross over Departments Reduction Committee. And it will be mandatory and it will not be well attended. ha!
Okay..great blog though, it gives you something to think about..~~
A quick break for me. Each and every item/organization/entity on that list is at least partially funded by tax dollars. Each and every one of you is paying for those programs, or programs like them in your state.
ReplyDeleteI become so infuriated when I see people pissing and moaning about how we shouldn't cut government spending because it's vital. Bullshit!
If someone can go through that list and justify why each and every item is important to the survival of CA citizens in a time of financial crisis, I'll stop with my rant. But until then, I want to tell those people to STFU because they don't know what they're talking about.
Many of those entities exist simply for the sake of existing.
Have a nice day everyone.
ReplyDelete:D
Bonachichi, ...or they exist because some politician needed a place to employ relatives or friends or someone who contributed to their campaign or some other lame reason. The problem about cutting spending is that the politicians cut in places that are beneficial to the taxpayer and not in the areas that are redundant or that won't affect the taxpayer. While I was still working in another one of those bad budget years, state workers salaries were cut by 5%, but the Legislature voted themselves a 7% raise that was not publicized.
ReplyDeleteTina, you are such a Mexi-beauty today. Not sure about your "other half" lol!!
ReplyDeleteBonachi, WOW! Of course I have known of some of those so called committees/programs etc., but seeing them written/copied down staggers the mind. Here in Michigan we are in the process of consolidating Post Offices and other public services like the Police Dpt. I hope they will be doing the same to some of the duplicate dept. you showed. Too bad we are also cutting back on many education programs!!
Zona, a Happy Hump Day to you too!!
Whabby LOL @ not being a lurker!!!
Waving at Bebbi and Sacky~~~~
area51, Justlin thanks for the info. on your edema. I was worried. Keep us informed :)
Dianne!! Didn't you see the big Sundae bar??? *pushes button and the large bookcase on the side of the room opens up* Behind it is a full Sundae bar with a handsome man standing there in only a cute little apron that says "Bebbi's Ice Cream Delights"...
ReplyDeleteAvailable are all the fixings for a delicious cone and there is every imaginable flavor. When you pick your ingredients Mr. Ice Cream Man will mix it all up (just like the do at Cold Stone Creamery)..but while he's doing it..he wiggles his behind in just the right way to make it extremely appealing to the eye...mmmMMMMmm I meant the ice cream..not his booty!! ha ha..
*takes an ice cream from him and winks at him, walks out and hits the button to hide him from view again* There ya go Dianne..anytime you want an ice cream..just push this button right here. :)
Enjoy! All!
PS: that was an answer to Dianne's question in Area 51... :)
ReplyDeleteJ/L: I hope you get good results on all your tests. I will be honest, I had to look up what edema was. I hope it gets better soon.
ReplyDeleteBebbi, you had me drooling!! for ice cream of course :-)!!
ReplyDeleteI have a different passion CUPCAKES!!
On board our ship their was a cute little shop called "The Cupcake Cupboard". I had orgasms just looking at the showcase!! I got the "strawberry shortcake cupcake" and my Niece got the " Turtle". Yummy!!!!!
J/L I have no idea what an edemaneamda is either. I will begin googling after I post and whatever it is I hope you are feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteI will never understand why education always has to take the biggest cut, pisses me off. This past week Texas's congress just did sweeping big cuts in everything. I believe it is in the Senate right now. Of coarse, education is right up their with being hit the worst.
Have to go and find something to cheer me up.
Ohhhh...that list makes me mad. That list could easily be cut and half and the best interest of the constituency will still be served...more efficiently and economically. Grrrr.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if the politicians had to pay for thier healthcare, stamps, transportation, security, etc...we would save a boat load of money and they would finally see how WE have to struggle to live. Grrrr.
The Cleveland schools are shit. Low scores, etc. And yesterday they laid of over 600 teachers and another 100 support personnel. Yep, that will make the district improve. Grrrr.
So, how is everyone today?
CHICHI: I had no idea there were so many funded "agencies". I gave up reading all of them about half way through but got the drift. We have heard about this for years and years and nothing ever seems to get done REGARDLESS who is President, etc. It's very frustrating.
ReplyDeleteGood job on first today TINA. Hope all goes well for you and dad.
JODI: I just can't sing songs to y ou like you do to me but I get an A for trying, right? I was trying to think of any yellow song to bring you yellow and then I drew a total blank except for the two songs I sang.....briefly.
ZONA: Quit keeping Randy up so late and let him get some sleep. Poor guy. Let me know how that dinner turns out tonight.....BEFORE.....I try it.
BEBBI: I had no idea of the secret ice cream place...after all these years. Did anyone else know or is it new? I loved it and I loved the cute "soda jerk" too (some of you are too young to even know what that is)....MARY...SACBARB....J/L....You know, right?
ReplyDeleteJ/L: How are you doing today? Any better? I hope so. I have dealt with that in the past too and it isn't fun.
DIANNE...When I was in Elementary school we would go to the pharmacy at the corner of Lee and Mayfield and climb up on the tall swivel stools at the counter... a soda fountain...and get a cherry Coke. Served in a real glass! I think it was like 60 cents!
ReplyDeleteThe problem with USA schools is, we're spending more money than ever on them, and they're the worst they've ever been. The USA no longer ranks in the top 10 in the world for education.
ReplyDeleteSo I'm sorry to all the teachers, but if they can't get their act together by just having more money thrown at them, I won't miss the educators when they're gone.
I know that's going to be unpopular, and I don't mean that all teachers are bad. It's unfortunate that the good ones get thrown in with the bad. And it's not just teachers, it's the administrators as well.
A school district in L.A. County wanted to buy and develop prime real estate near a school so the teachers would have a cheap place to live. At taxpayer expense. Apparently, teachers "can't teach good" unless they can walk to work and have subsidized housing. My employers don't give a rat's arse where or how I live, and if I can't do the job and do it well, I can't expect to be kept around.
Tightening your belt hurts, but nobody should be immune. Everyone has to make sacrifices.
Tina You purdy.
ReplyDeleteBonach You're right. There is a lot of waste in government. I have hopes for some streamlining with our current governor. He is a frugal sort, for sure.
ReplyDeleteiteach Edema is the medical work for water retention. I take meds to counteract it but right now it isn't helping much. My feet, ankles and legs are very swollen since my surgical procedure. I can press on my flesh with my finger and make big dents, as if I was made of clay. The doctor had me take a chest x-ray and do lab work checking for the possiblity of heart failure, which can cause edema. I got all my results today and it looks like I am fine, thankfully. I see the doctor in the morning.
ReplyDeleteLOL Not medical work...medical word.
ReplyDeleteI'm supposed to be working now so I better get back to it. Waving at you pretty owls.
ReplyDeleteMo, yes I know what a "Soda Jerk" is LOL! I used to get cherry & coke phosphates & sit on the stools in the pharmacy. Good memories.
ReplyDeleteDianne, Yes I remember going to the Malt Shop and sitting on the stools that swivel and sipping a soda. I also remember the soda jerk and he wasn't a jerk either.
ReplyDeleteMary I haven't thought about phosphates in a long time. Loved sitting on the stool at the counter when I was a kid.
ReplyDeleteTodd and Vicki are participating in a walk for the San Diego Humane Society on May 7th in memory of Canton. If anyone is interested in making a tax deductible donation the link is:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.sdhumane.org/goto/cantondog
They are both registered under Vicki Armstrong. Thanks.
My husband (the good one) was a soda jerk when he was a teenager. That would have been about the year I was born. LOL
ReplyDeleteGot to get back to work. :(
ReplyDeleteJ/L, I have the same problem and had all the tests and everything was fine. My doctor just told me that something happens to the valves (or something like that) in the legs that hinders circulation when we get older. Basically, since all the tests were OK, she just dismissed the issue. She did tell me to wear compression stockings and that does help, but I hate wearing them. I do take three different diuretics.
ReplyDeleteSacBarb I take 60mg furosemide (Lasix) every morning and I do wear knee socks under my jeans that are compression. I need to get new socks, though, as these aren't as tight as they once were. It's just unusually bad since the surgery. I've lost 5 lbs of it since Saturday but have tons more to go.
ReplyDeleteI was wearing knee high compression stockings at first, but by the end of the day, when my legs were most swollen, they dug into my leg and really hurt, so I switched to thigh highs. They are much better and they don't dig into my skin.
ReplyDeleteI just wear fish net stockings~ they work for me.....leave the best designs when I take them off~ ijs~
ReplyDeleteTina LMAO!
ReplyDeleteSacBarb I'm not talking about stockings, I'm talking about white knee high socks and black knee high socks by Jobst.
ReplyDeleteJL. I wear those too. Mine cost 150 per pair and they r custom fit for me
ReplyDeleteJ/L, Oh. The stockings I wear are made by Jobst also and they come in white, tan, and black.
ReplyDeleteDianne, That's a lot of money. Mine are under $20.00
ReplyDeleteDianne Yikes! Mine are not custom fit and cost about $15/pair.
ReplyDeleteGood night and sweet dreams Owls. Get your thongs ready for tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteSacBarb I do have a couple of pair of the knee high stockings, also, in black.
ReplyDeleteYeah, get your thongs ready along with your knee high compression stockings. LOL LOL LOL
ReplyDeleteWhere the hell is Shirley lately?
ReplyDeleteAnd is DeeDee getting her mouth drilled or something?
ReplyDeleteHuh!! Well it is really easy to blame the educators when parents don't do their part at home.
ReplyDeleteI am totally pissed off by that comment Bonachichi!!!!!!!!!
Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) needs to be audited and all of the nonprofit developers they've lent money to need to be audited. They have ripped of the taxpayer hundreds of millions of dollars......
ReplyDelete
