Ice Cream

by Dianne

Last week, I took my grand-children to a restaurant.

My six-year-old grand-son asked if he could say grace.

As we bowed our heads he said, "God is good, God is great. Thank you for the food, and I would even thank you more if Nana gets us ice cream for dessert. And liberty and justice for all! Amen!"

Along with the laughter from the other customers nearby, I heard a woman remark, "That's what's wrong with this country. Kids today don't even know how to pray. Asking God for ice cream! Why, I never!"

Hearing this, my grand-son burst into tears and asked me, "Did I do it wrong? Is God mad at me?"

As I held him and assured him that he had done a terrific job, and God was certainly not mad at him, an elderly gentleman approached the table. He winked at my grand-son and said, "I happen to know that God thought that was a great prayer."

"Really?" my grand-son asked.

"Cross my heart," the man replied.

Then, in a theatrical whisper, he added (indicating the woman whose remark had started this whole thing), "Too bad she never asks God for ice cream. A little ice cream is good for the soul sometimes."

Naturally, I bought my grand-children ice cream at the end of the meal.

My grand-son stared at his for a moment, and then did something I will remember the rest of my life.

He picked up his sundae and, without a word, walked over and placed it in front of the woman. With a big smile he told her, "Here, this is for you. Ice cream is good for the soul sometimes; and my soul is good already."

The End

I love that story! Sometimes, we all need some ice cream.
I hope God sends you some today!

  4. Good Moan-day everyone!!
Diane, that was such a sweet story! I know a few "grumpy souless people". I just talked to one one the phone. She could only think of negative things to say. I told her my phone wasn't working right & it may drop her.....oops dropped her! lol!! Actually my phone is wonkey and dropped her at a perfect time :)

Since I have been home I think I have been through 2 Kleenex boxes.
Going from 90* weather to cold & damp Mich not fun. I am delighted to see many Robins and know warmer weather is not far away :).

    Hi Bebbi!!!
    Hi Tina!!!

  10. Hmmm, I write a lot more blogs than I realize sometimes :) This is pretty cute though (if I do say so myself).

Went for my hot stone massage today and it was very nice. Came home and rode my bike for a mile and a half and now I am "thinking" about what I "might" fix for dinner.

Our weather is beautiful except for the darn wind. It is in the high 70's after snow on Monday. Crazy......

TINA: You look so lovely today....I almost fainted at your beauty!!!

MARY: Get well soon. I think you just need to rest, rest, rest. Maybe your husband and son will wait on you since you are sick.

JODI: Thanks for song the other day and I want you to be my neighbor too!!! Glad you fought off your cold...heck, you could be a doctor.

BEBBI: Where is that ice cream for all of us? I looked in the manor freezer and there is nothing in there but ice cubes. I don't think SHIRLEY has been doing her shopping job for us while she has been doing taxes!!! Guess we all lose weight while she isn't providing our food and ICE CREAM!!!

  11. Dianne you have the best grandchildren, that was an awesome story! You should be very proud of them.

I think my middle child wouldn't have bursted in tears , he would have just stuck his tongue out at her.

  12. Do you remember a couple of years ago when that crazy guy in my small town killed eight people in a weeks time with a hatchet?

Well, his six year old sits right next to my six year old at school and he has the same exact name as his dad. I try not to be judgemental and my son has no idea what happened, however, it is still very eerie...

  14. Dianne That was a totally cute story. I had chocolate ice cream last night. In fact, I've been having ice cream so often lately that my soul must be in excellent shape.

The edema in my legs remains ridiculously bad ever since the surgery. My doctor had me go in for chest x-ray and more lab work today before deciding if she can increase the diuretic dose that I already take. I can't get in to see her until Thurs.

    Iteach (love that name :)
I too think it would be a little eerie. Too bad he is saddled with such a tragedy. I have a feeling he has a rough road ahead as people can be so cruel.

    MO!!!!!
To funny on "justlin & custard"

  22. Hi Guys!

DIANNE: Sweet story! Ice cream does seem to make everything better..btw..does this mean I can go ahead and eat the ice cream bars I have in the freezer? ;D

    TINA: You so pretty!! :D

MARY: Sorry you're sick..I hope you feel better soon! You know..I can't remember ever seeing a robin..just pigeons, crows and doves..phooey..

JODI: EmergenC is great..Mr Z swears by it..well he doesn't swear exactly..actually, maybe he does.. ;)

    MO: LOL@ custard..or should I say Custard! ;)

BEBBI: "We all need to have the heart of innocent children' so very true.. :)

J/LIN: I hope the doctor can get the edema under control soon!

ITEACH: When I was in high school the father and uncle of someone in my AV class killed two armored truck guards. The guy in my class had the same name as his dad. He was the nicest guy and tried to stay in school, but had to drop out because some of the kids wouldn't leave him alone. I always felt so bad for him. I feel bad for that little boy in your class..especially as he gets older.

I think I'll follow DI's lead and see what I 'might' make for dinner too..Have a good night everyone!

  27. Mary At least the doctor will have my test results by Thursday. My chest x-rays have been read and they are normal. No fluid. Now waiting for the blood test, BNP. I looked that up tonight and see it is to check for heart failure which can cause edema. Ay yi yi! I really don't think that's the problem. I've had edema problems for many years, especially and take meds for it. It is just worse than usual at the moment.

  28. Zona I'm glad I didn't have to give up ice cream for lent...or Custard. LOL

  30. Dianne, what a great story! I'm going to copy it and keep it in my journal. I have a special one filled with inspirational stories and quotes. This one will help restore my faith when I need it, and remind me of the way a child sees the world...with such sweetness and simplicity.

Just peeking in the nest...hi everyone! Hope you all have a great day today :)
